We ordered drinks. I tried their sangria which was very good. We ordered two of their famous bombas. A potato fried on the outside and hollowed out and filled with spicy meat and potato. It was excellent. I called it a Spanish sloppy Joe! Once we finished those it was past seven so we ordered the grill pork ribs which were meaty and good. We got la selección de tapas which comes with partridge pâté, queso manchego, ensaladilla rusa, croquetas de jamón y pollo, estofado de ciervo (potato stuffed with deer), and carcamusas (stewed pork). Toledo is a small city just a little over 30 minutes by high speed train from Madrid or an hour driving. The town can be seen in about 4 hours. That's plenty of time to sight see, explore the different view points and grab a bite to eat. We ate at El Trébol which is located at the end of the city closest to the train station. Prices in Toledo are slightly higher given you are in a very touristy area. We enjoyed the tapa sampler and some tintos for lunch. The sampler was hefty and came with croquetas, manchego, paté, ensalada de atún and two stews that are common local dishes. Portions were large! read more

This was an excellent place to stop in after a long day of walking around Toledo. The energy and vibe here was great - the service was outstanding. You could tell there were a lot of regulars here, and everyone seemed to be having a great time. We had the croquettes and a dish unique to the place - La Bomba. The Bomba really is the bomb - a fluffy potato with a picadillo-like ground beef mixture on top. The damn thing is delicious and one of a kind. Unbelievable flavor and like nothing else we ran into during our many meals on this trip. Highly recommend this establishment - and look for the old city walls that can be seen through the glass floor in the back. Very very cool. read more

Another excellent meal. This was recommended by the front desk of our hotel in Madrid as a less touristy place. It was a block off the main square in Toledo and so had. Much nicer vibe. Just arrived in Toledo this morning after catching the red eye out of Milan. Stopped by at 6 totally famished the vino tinto was good and cheap. They served some complimentary grilled ribs and potatoes as a free tapa. The local stew with pork and chorizo was amazing. The papas with aioli were great. Don't miss the lemonade with mint. Warning: the line to sit outside in the courtyard can be quite long. Go in and put your name at the bar to sit at a table inside if you are in a rush. We opted to sit outside and I'm really glad we did. The atmosphere was great and the food was amazing. One of the best meals we had while in Spain. We were on a guided tour on this amazing city of Toledo, while we were in Segovia our tour guide mentioned El Trebol as one of her favorite places to eat in Toledo so when we arrived at the plaza nearby she suggested 4 restaurants of which El Trebol was number one, there was a line and since we were short on time we skipped the line and went inside, luckily we found a spot to stand by the kitchen and ordered a variety of tapas and wine, everything we ordered was simply delicious including the white wine, the food came out very quickly and being close to the kitchen, we saw every plate on their way to the tables and everything looked awesome, best of all, we all agreed it was very affordable for the quality of food we enjoyed. Great food and fun place to eat. The outside had little picnic tables with umbrellas, and inside you eat with ancient ruins at your feet. Its by the main city square ( Plaza de Sol) and get there when it opens at 1 pm or you will have a wait. We got there at 1:30 and only waited 10 minutes , but by 2 pm there was a HUGE line. We got the croquettes ( sooooo creamy and delicious) the crispy chicken salad) tasted like a Red Robin salad - nothing to write home about, a bbq sandwich with yummy bread ( this was a great choice,too) and bambas which were super good, also. Perhaps the best thing to order from the menu is the Assortment of Tapas--that way you don't have to choose and can try some of their best offerings! This combination menu included partridge pate (a local specialty); Manchego cheese; Ensaladilla Rusa (a creamy potato salad flavored with tuna and eggs); ham and chicken croquettes (fritters with a creamy, smokey interior); and two different stews: the Estofado de Ciervo (a venison stew paired with a warm spice) and the Carcamusas (a pork stew with chorizo, peas, green pepper, and tomato sauce). We popped in for an early lunch at nearly 1 pm on a busy Sunday while exploring the majesty of Toledo with a private guide. She chose the location and we were very please with her choice. At 1 pm they open the small upstairs dining area for tapas and we were one of the first seated there. Our guide helped us with the Spanish menus and recommended several local dishes that we really enjoyed including bambas, a plate of local Manchego cheese, a local potato dish, a great crock of slow roasted bites of pork in a delicious red sauce and a dish made from "bread crumbs" and pork with a fantastic flavor. Service was really fast and the 5 items we ordered were more than enough for three people and with drinks only about 34€-a very fair price. read more

We shared the pork stew, a 1 large shrimp croquet, potato with blood sausage and a salad. Everything was well done and not overly salty was I've at other places in Spain. Sitting outside here is safe from beggars, guys selling flowers, starving musicians. We were here for lunch not sure how its like at night for dinner or late lunch #2. Kitchen does not serve half of the food till 8pm so plan for that. Service is nice but attentive or overly helpful. Have to get their attention if you need something, but the food and drinks are served quickly. It started to rain a bit but we all squished towards the center of the umbrellas.
