My first visit was Aug 20th 2026. I had been looking for a good Mexican food restaurant for quite a long time and was unable to find one where the food was actually flavorful and made correctly based on the name of this place. I figured they had a Trompo and sure enough they did. I was super excited. I ordere the asada, pastor and tasted the chicken. All were Fantastic. I finally found a really great Mexican food resturant. Each dish has Flavor. The pastor taco had a pineapple sauce that was outstanding and it went well with the green sauce. The Asada was tender and had a really nice beef flavor and the chicken was a delicate flavor and a green sauce. I am forever, a new customer because not only where is the lady behind the counter super wonderful and friendly and nice. Her food was amazing and for me it's all about the food. My tacos were hot not lukewarm not cold hot the salsa were homemade and each was flavorful and different. The meats all had a unique and different flavor was just all around a good place and I'm excited to go back. read more

Been here twice now with my wife. Food here is flavorful and tasty. Staff is accommodating and friendly. Foods pretty pricey but then again what isn't these days. Tough to justify buying a sandwich with hotdogs in it for 20$ but dang is it a tasty sandwich. read more

Had a friend introduce me to this place today and it was without a doubt the best food experience I've had in stephenville! From the quality to the customer service and the pride they take in their work. They gave us a custom special price for margaritas and let us try out one of the staffs special homemade purées for margaritas which were all fantastic. 10 out of 10 work recommend. People complain about there not being a chipotle is Stephenville but have no idea this place is the authentic version! read more

All the same, for 3$ a taco I can get pastor and steak you lazy ass people, got limes for 3 and salsa for 5 tacos when 7 were selected of each, so not only lazy but will short you... also ordered chips and salsa for 4$ and got no salsa... chips value at $0.50 Over priced for lazy and shorted food.... We came in on Easter and were thankful they were open for breakfast burritos. The worker wasn't friendly but made a good burrito. I asked for cups of water and she said we only do bottles for purchase. I said you can get a cup of tap water she said "No." the two burritos were $23.00 plus a tip, .if this is the owners position then charge for Cup. Fresh and delicious food, beautiful, sweet ladies to take your order and fix the food. Spic and span clean from doorway to the back, including kitchen and rest rooms. Good location and excellent visibility from the street. Areas for improvement: your owners undervalue the customer by not offering appropriate utensils: some people are neither fast- foodies nor takeout artists. Some of us customers might prefer to sit and eat in your restaurant, and you have lots of nice tables for that. Invest in a few pieces of silverware for those people, instead of making them open a package of cheap plasticware like they were at a Jack-in-the-Box somewhere! And with such nice tables where people can sit and eat, you need not package everything to go like we're a bunch of college kids rushing back to class. Invest in a plate on which you can serve a meal instead of handing us a wrapped package like it came in the mail. This is a restaurant! I've been here three times and I've never seen more than one or two tables occupied. If you served people with plates, glasses and silverware like they should be treated in a nice restaurant, I think you would have a lot more tables full of people enjoying a meals here. It's just a suggestion, yes... I know you'd be washing dishes but you'd waste much less tin foil and wrapping paper. And by the way... you have a huge sign in the window that says "restrooms are for customers only!" I haven't noticed that we have a huge homeless problem here in Stephenville, so perhaps you should rethink that sign. Everyone who walks by your store is a potential customer, and very few of them are gonna be nasty homeless people looking for a place to bathe. And if someone from your community should happen to enter just for the restroom, don't be offended --- that's a marketing opportunity and you would do much better to welcome them inside where you might impress them with your nice facility, the look and smell of great food and a smile from a lovely waitress. Restaurant excellence is an art lost on many food providers. I hope you make these changes and wish you many years of success. read more

The best tacos in Stephenville. We make a trip to El Trompo once a week. Every Tuesday is Taco Tuesday which is helpful since they are a little pricey. Try all the flavors of meat, as well as the super hot salsa. My boyfriend always gets the homemade lemonade and it is phenomenal. read more

This places food was amazing! This was actual authentic Mexican food, not when people say it's authentic but it's really not....all the food and salsas made fresh. The salsa picante was actually spicy enough. I got the double chorizo burrito and oh my amazing! Such a good chorizo and the owner said it was homeade. My husband got a huge chicken verde burrito which was wonderful as well. Even their rice is authentic Mexican rice and you won't want to stop eating it. I have not found any other Mexican place around here with real food made fresh with good flavor that isn't Tex mex. The owner and his wife were so friendly as well. They catered to our every need, and treated us like good friends which is what you want when you go out to eat! I'm craving it already again and I just had it. Visiting TU with hubs and daughter. We needed something quick and good and saw this as we were driving down the street saw it has a drive thru and is available on door dash. We walked in and there was plenty of seating at tables and printed togo menus for ordering. We were greeted by the owner behind the counter, very friendly guy from Mexico via Ohio. Upon finding out we were first timers explained the ingredients laid out behind the counter, the different meats, the different salsas, and offered tastes of each if we wanted. I opted for Carne asada nachos, and was able to build them as I wanted. The meat was good, the salsas fresh and tasty, the chips were light and warm still. I ate it ALL. My husband got the al pastor that was cut from the rotating spit (i.e. the Trompo), he ate it in a burrito that he was able to chose ingredients for, my daughter got the California burrito. Being from the west coast any time we find a place that has burritos makes her happy, having the makings of a California burrito was epic for her. She even wandered off the classic and added queso and liked it. She will be a freshman at TU on the fall and is happy know this is 5 min away, and we will def eat here again when we come visit. read more

My boyfriend joked about this place probably being the whitest Mexican food ever, and he was right. I called to place a to go order. The girl answering seemed VERY rude. Like the call was such an inconvenience. I ordered 3 tacos and chips and queso. I rarely ever get queso, so obviously I was expecting REAL queso. Girl did not ask for a name or gave me a price, and hurriedly said "Ok it'll be like 5 minutes." My drive was 20. -- I'm sorry, huh? 5 minutes for 3 steak tacos, it might be a small meal but that's disgusting, obviously they had it all laid out. We get there and NOBODY is there, so I joked with my bf about that's why it only took 5 min. Waited to get home to look at the food (a mistake always) and the queso was LITERALLY just nacho cheese sauce. Literally repulsive. The chips were stale, they obviously did not make them fresh for the order. Just an FYI: customers can tell freshness even if it's tortilla chips. Got charged about $17 for crap, TINY TACOS, like they literally use the tortillas from Walmart. Tacos were OK but the tortillas were stale too. Best thing was the horchata which obviously comes out of a machine. My advice is 1. don't go here, and 2. For the business: People want authentic........ And don't put chips and queso on the menu. I am giving this restaurant a 2 because I have been twice and this is the second time I have been disappointed. I ordered a large quesadilla and chips with queso which was almost $20 dollars in price! I wouldn't have been mad at that if it had actually been reasonable in taste and quantity but when I went to eat the quesadillas I noticed that it had barely any meat on it even though I payed extra to have meat and the queso from this restaurant taste like it was just reheated after it was taken out of the can. Loved the tacos I had from here. I got one chicharrón and one of nopales with their spiciest salsa which is a mix of Chile de Arbol and Habanero. This place has become a weekly stop for me sometimes even twice a week. It's the best authentic Mexican food in stephenville. It has a chipotle-style service such as being able to see your options in front of you and you choose what goes on your burrito or taco or whatever you order. The sauces are to die for, especially the pink one. If you haven't tried this place yet you should!
