I have not been to this restaurant in a few months. When I had company from out of town I took them here for a weekend breakfast. They have a very good breakfast burrito. I have tried several breakfast burritos in Stephenville. Azteca is best I have found in Stephenville, so far. Not the cheapest but the best flavor. read more

Visiting out of town for a concert at the new EECU center. A local recommended this for dinner. It was packed and we lucked out and got seated and served at the bar quickly. Great cold draft beers. HUGE RAVE for Azteca Mexican Bar and Grill in Stephenville, Texas! I would like to say that I grew up on good Mexican food, but that would be a lie. I was raised a military brat and lived in lots of states, cities and towns that simply had no clue as to what Mexican food was, not to mention good Mexican food. Being raised in a family consisting of a wife and four children on a Chief Master Sergeant's pay didn't leave room for a lot of extras. The first time I had anything remotely Mexican was a taco from Taco Bell when I was in high school. I remember thinking that I had died and gone to heaven. Today, I laughed about that, but it was one of the best things I had ever eaten. Suffice it to say that as far as Mexican food is concerned, I led a very sheltered life the first 18 years. I suppose that a more accurate statement would be that "I have grown old on good Mexican food" and I have loved every minute of it. Over the years, I have been blessed to dine in some pretty doggone good Mexican food places in Texas. But in all seriousness, I cannot think of one that I have enjoyed more than Azteca Mexican bar and grill. My beloved bride/domestic supervisor and I have been there several times, but we went today so I could have another good dining experience and share it with y'all. But today was not good. Today was FANTASTIC!! Azteca is the gift that keeps on giving! Our server was a young lady, an absolute unfettered joy named Angelica. She is as pleasant a person who has ever waited on us anywhere. The aforementioned beloved bride/domestic supervisor ordered mixed fajitas for one, and I had the Birria tacos. We both had sweet tea with lemon. It's a known fact that as people get older, their metabolism slows down. Honestly, I eat about 1/3 of what I ate 10 years ago. My doctor told me the other day that I had lost 14 pounds in four weeks. He asked me if I was doing anything special And I told him that I just wasn't eating as much. The portions were massive! There were three tacos on the plate with rice and a bowl of some excellent Charro beans that were full of onions and chunks of ham. One taco would have been sufficient. I managed to eat one and a half tacos before waving the white flag. Judy was unable to finish her order of fajitas, so we were able to bring food home and that's what we'll eat tonight, assuming that we get hungry. If not, I'll have it for breakfast. The beans and the rice and a side of flour tortillas would have been plenty. I'll have to try that sometime when I'm not very hungry. The food was excellent, the tea was sweet and cold, and Angelica never let my glass get half empty. We are blessed in Erath County to have some really good Mexican restaurants, and I've tried them all, but Azteca is my favorite, hands-down. Angelica is a ROCK STAR who can play on my team any day! First visit here but I think we can safely say it won't be our last. Arrived for dinner on a Thursday evening and although the parking lot was fairly full, we were seated right away. Service was good from start to finish and the food was amazing! They seem well suited for a variety of groups from singles to large parties. The atmosphere is casual and friendly. Had HIGH hopes for this place - seeing a jam-packed parking lot. Ordered the Camarones Al Ajillo. Lots of anemic-looking shrimp swimming in a "garlic sauce." We drove an hour to get to this place The food was horrible , salty no flavor , drinks sucked, the place inside smelled like a wet mop and I should have took that as a hint to turn right back around and leave the establishment but we stayed spent over $100 plus tip because it wasn't the waitress fault the place sucked all around. This place just is not good. We tried when it very first opened and I honestly believed our waitress was on drugs. It took her forever to come to our table and when she did bring our drinks and take our order, she never came back. NEVER, not once. We never even saw her again. I went an entire meal with an empty drink. She seemed like the lights were on but no one is home, if you know what I mean. I understand one bad server doesn't represent the whole restaurant and they had just opened so I could cut them some slack. However, the food is just not good. Ordered a meal from this restaurant through Uber Eats. the restaurant failed to provide tortillas with the meal. Upon calling the restaurant, some young girl with a real sharp tongue and attitude gave me a choice to drive up there and get the tortillas. We have been here twice in the last month or so. We had great food and service the first visit. There were three of us. On the second visit there was six of us. The food was great, but the service was very poor. We couldn't get the waiter to provide refills on the drinks, or cups and salsa. No wait to be seated, drink order taken immediately. We didn't order cocktails because we were driving through town but judging by what other had, I will next time. Hubby had the Pina Loco a half a grilled pineapple with grilled steak, chicken and shrimp. I had the chimichanga. They were both fresh and hot with great flavor. Mine, there were 2 chimis made with regular sized tortillas. I actually appreciated this and would love it if they had the option to order just one. Accompaniments were average.
