I went on a Polanco area food tour the night before and El Turix was one of our last stops. All of the other stops on the tour were at sit down table service restaurants and the food served at those places was good but it was this hole in the wall, eat standing on the sidewalk, establishment that made me return the next day for lunch. The star of the show are their tacos for $29. I had 3 of them and wanted more. Very delicious. I also tried a panucho for $41 and loved it too. You walk "inside" and tell the cook what you want and he takes about 15 seconds to put it together for you. Another person will get your drink and then you go out on the sidewalk and stand or sit on the curb and eat. So simple, so good. Then when you are done you pay because you will probably want some more like I did. Cash or credit. Definitely put this place in the category of great cheap eats!
This was our group's final stop on a taco tour of Ciudad de México (CDMX). The story is that the owner and his wife brought the unique flavor of cochinita pibil from the Yucatán peninsula to the nation's capital. This is pork traditionally cooked underground, marinated in oranges and spices, and covered with banana leaves (hmm, think Hawaiian), which gives it a nice moist texture. This is like the taco shop version of The Soup Nazi from the TV show Seinfeld. You stand in line (in the rain sometimes) to enjoy your food standing up or sitting on the sidewalk bench. There is no seating in this place. It's casual street food. The pork was uber tender and juicy, with loads of flavors. There was so much juice that the corn taco gets soaked. I loved it, but my esposa did not, so I split our score.
A great hole in the wall taco place in Polancho area. The service was so fast and efficient. You order in the counter, eat, and pay later. No seating areas, you just have to find seats wherever you like. I paid 450 pesos for 3 tacos, 1 torta, 5 panucho and 2 cans of tecate beers. So it's very reasonable price.
This was my first time having cochinita pibil and oh my goodness it was like a dream come true. The meat itself was so tangy and tender from the citrus marinade. I had the tacos and the torta. The tacos went down almost too easy because of all the juice from the fat. But the torta hit all the marks. The bread soaked up the fat in the perfect way and made each bite perfect. Either way, you can't go wrong honestly. But you must stop here!

My sister and I came in on a Saturday at around 2 pm. There were a few people waiting in line at the time but it didn't take long because they work fast. Their most popular item is the torta. We got two to go - one to share and one to bring back to my husband. After a block or so of walking, we both made the decision to just find a bench and eat it fresh and that was probably the best decision. Well I guess it was the second best decision, because we probably should have just ate it then and there. Still, it was a great torta, especially with the salsa it came with. It was the perfect snack to share for two (since we had already eaten beforehand and just wanted to try it). Hubby ate it about two hours later and said it was still really good - (though we were staying in a hotel w a kitchen, so he was able to properly heat it up in an actual pan). Long story short - eat it fresh if you can. But if you can't, it holds pretty well, as long as you have the proper elements to reheat it with. But the salsa makes it!
Everything here uses the same meat, cochinita pibil, a braised pork from Yucatan. It is really flavorful. The taco's tortilla is a little too soft. Panucho is good with a deep fry shell. Torta is tasty as well. Not the best in terms of cleanliness because they literally use their hands as a spatula to get the meat on the tortilla. There isn't any table and chair to sit as well. If you don't mind those, then definitely give this place a try.
El Turix was hands-down one of my favorite meals in CDMX. \\ panucho - i was a little nervous watching these sit in the hot oil and then watching the chef use his bare hands to prepare them - but these are so good! the tartness of the cochinita pibil and freshly squeezed lime cuts through the grease right away - the fried tortilla is crisp and fresh, and the texture is amazing because of the soft beans inside \\ tamale - not gonna lie... i didn't understand the love for tamales before this--i had just never had the opportunity to try a proper good tamale - this was wrapped in a fragrant sheet of banana leaf and stuffed with cochinita pibil - be sure to ask for the red sauce to eat it with for even more flavors! Great location, too--stroll around Amsterdam street or through Parque México after to digest!
This is a no-frills hole in the wall taco place that I found while browsing a list of Mexico City's best food. It's cash only and there's no seating. The menu is not extensive at all, with only Al pastor tacos available, and I think there is only pork as an option for quesadillas as well. I don't eat a lot of meat but really wanted to try these, so my husband and I got two Al pastor tacos each. These were simple but well-made, and were the best tacos that I ate while on this trip. Would highly recommend coming here for a quick daytime meal.

El Turix brought me straight back to the moment I first fell in love with cochinita pibil. I remembered it as my favorite bite in CDMX, went back years later, and it still holds the crown. The torta is absolutely legendary. A fluffy bolillo roll drenched in juicy, slow-roasted pork, tangy pickled onions, and a salsa that comes in swinging with just the right heat. That salsa alone could clear your sins. It's spicy, vinegary, addictive. I was sweating and smiling like a maniac. It's a tiny hole-in-the-wall in Polanco. Cash only, plastic stools, no fanfare. You order at the counter and eat fast because there's almost always a line of locals and tourists in the know. And they serve one thing: cochinita. You can get it in taco form, on a panucho, or in the god-tier torta. Honestly, get all three and thank yourself later. The meat is fall-apart tender and deeply marinated, full of citrus and achiote. The panucho, with that crispy bean-stuffed tortilla base, is underrated perfection. Everything is messy, hot, and dripping with flavor in the best way. El Turix is the kind of place that reminds you why street-style food is unmatched. No hype, no gimmicks, just absolute fire. A must every time I'm in the city. read more

Loved our tortas and tacos! It was the weekend so there was a line but it went quick. Usually not too busy during the week. The cochinita pibil was super juicy and flavorful. Not really places to sit , best to stand and eat. read more

Californian visiting CDMX and this was one of my favorite meals after a morning spent at the pyramids. Cochinita pibil served up as tortas, tamals, tacos, panuchos, etc. (others have posted the menu) at a great value. The line was long with both locals and tourists, but moved quickly. read more

Good tacos and great panuchos, served with a side of habanero sauce that I absolutely loved. (My wife was too scared to try it.) Everything comes a little soggy, which I think holds it back a tiny bit, but we still really enjoyed it. I will say, I'm down for pretty much anything, but it's pretty jarring seeing the sweaty guy behind the counter throwing your pibil on your tacos with his bare hands. If you're not a little flexible on hygiene, this probably isn't your spot. read more

This is probably one of the cheapest meals you can find in ritzy Polanco. It's truly the definition of a hole-in-the-wall. There are no tables and you eat standing up or on the curb in front of the joint. Here, I had my first taste of Yucatanian cochinita pibil--a citrusy, marinated pork. The menu is simple--tacos, panuchos, tamales...I think there's only 4-5 things on the menu, which makes it pretty easy for even the most indecisive. I tried the tacos and panucho (a fried tortilla stuffed with black beans and topped with the cochinita pibil). For those who are squeamish, the cook inside scoops the pork with his bare hands onto the tortillas. It didn't bother me and I was fine after eating here, so hopefully that provides some reassurance. I agree with some of the past reviewers that while the pork is good, it's not GREAT. It could be more flavorful, and it was noticeably greasier than some of the other taco places we had tried. I also wish that I could have tried the cochinita pibil tamale, but unfortunately, they had already run out (it was around 6:30-7 PM on a weekday). read more
Where do you get Yucatan style tacos and panuchos in CDMX? A Yelp search had us piqued and when my group saw this small food stand, we ran to see what's up. There are many branches of El Turix all over this beautiful city. Just like every perfect dish in a food stand in Mexico, to get fed here is simple, it's fast.... almost perfect. If I had time to eat 5 panuchos, maybe 10 with a beer I woulda rated this place 5 stars but I was on my way to eat dinner so my posse had to try. LOL At $20 Mexican pesos a serving, about $1 US, the awesome cook takes one of the panuchos (a dish of Yucatan origin: small tortilla with mashed frijoles) from the fryer and heaps on it, a large ladle-full of cochinita pibil, then raw marinated red onions (which I normally refuse to eat, but loved it here) and hands it to me. I walk over to the counter and there, bowls of lime, salsas and cilantro await to compose my masterpiece. I season my panucho with salsa to taste and... Bam! Soul food perfection in a treat. Then you go to the cashier and pay. I loved perfect bites and moments like this that can be experienced all over the city. El Turix is one of the reasons I was in awe of the life and the eating culture of Mexico City. L-U-V. Tip: This is the perfect antidote to a fully loaded night of imbibin' in CDMX. They say that the Polanco neighborhood is filled with the "best restaurants in Mexico City" (read: places where you will spend a lot of money on fancy tasting menus). On a recent trip to CDMX, I would have to say that I agree - El Turix was the best place that I ate, and it is indeed in the Polanco (though at less than $1/taco, prices are a lot less than the neighborhood average). El Turix is a small shop, even by taco shop standards, and has a three-item menu. You can get a taco, panucho, or torta, all filled with mouthwatering pork. I tried both the taco and the panucho and the panucho was the winner. The crunchy shell really pairs well with the wetness of the pork. I ate a lot of great tacos in CDMX, but I found myself comparing each one to those at El Turix. They are producing the gold standard of tacos and it would be a waste not to go there (right now!). Just got to our Airbnb in the area and we needed taco's. It was about 230pm and the place was busy. The menu - taco, panucho, tamal, or torta (each was anywhere from $1-1.5 USD) Meat option - Cochinita Pibil My one complaint - they ran out of torta's when we got there and they only have 1 meat option. read more
After all the delicious dining we did in Ciudad De Mexico, from Pujol to Contramar it ended up being this little Yucatan Taqueria that topped our list of tasty titans in the city. It's OP - original Polanco - so don't expect the white table cloth experience you'll typically find in this bougie barrio. Honestly, this place probably wouldn't pass inspection in the states, #realtalk. But don't let that discourage you, these hombres are stuffing tortillas with mouth-watering cochinita pibil. The panuchos are also a real treat with their crispy tortilla base and fresh chopped onions that slice through the savoriness like a machete in the hands of Montezuma. Don't be afraid, let the salsa rip your face off, and the lime wedges are a must. All in all, it's great finger-food for taco craving taste buds. read more

Incredible meat served four ways - tacos, tortas, panuchos (which is like a fried tostada with beans), and tamales, also they serve soda and beer. Literally so yummy, amazing prices. A different place than you will usually see in the neighborhood but worth it read more
It's hard to find a good taco in Polanco, so we were surprised and relieved when a merchant told us about this spot. I read some reviews with complaints about the fact they serve the meat with their hands but come on... I've seen way less sanitary places and the meat is so damn good so who cares?!? If that grosses you out then move along. The food is tasty, the salsa is spicy and at these prices you cant complain! We had 4 tacos and a Coke for just about $2.50 us! read more
