Chips and salsas are free, but the salsas didn't have a lot of flavor. I got the Oaxaca Fillet and it was very salty, including the gravy. The salad had a nice dressing and the fries were crispy. This amazing place is everything you need when visiting : a great place to go when you land & have checked into your hotel then head to for TèKila, Victorias & Fantastic cuisine. The Oxacan Filet is my go to and is complemented with the smoothest creamiest mushroom sauce. It comes with french fries and salad but I prefer to sub the fries for an extra salad to balance out the decadence of the sauce. The José Filet is my other Rec as this goes more into a tomato Italian blend but both with a nice Mexican twist. The bartenders are kind and generous with their pours. I have to give full Kudos to another reviewer on this restaurant. I that review 2 key topics sold me: a solo travelers comfort, and the mushroom soup. I don't know why but I guess that hit a savory craving. Immediately I was greeted as a table of one and sat in a room Surrounded by game 4 of the World Series. I didn't read this place to be a sports bar; I had read this place to be a quaint Mexican cuisine on a little street... I walked around and this place has a few faces to it. It definitely has its own charm and Karisma (smh). The waiters spoke decent English and I tried my decent Spanish... just to end back in my comfortable English. Everyone was kind and jovial, hell I got a complimentary beer from the staff at the end. Very cool people. The food was exactly what I needed: good Taco Machos, homemade chips salsa and pico, and a warm and savory sopa de championes. We were walking around Polanco looking for a spot to get a drink and some snacks, but most spots felt a bit too upscale for us, so we kept walking and found Karisma - a casual place with Mexican flavor. We sat at the bar and had a few drinks, which came with complimentary chips, salsa, and pico de gallo. The salsa was a bit bland, but since it was free, we couldn't really complain. I then realized it was because I was visiting after lunch and before dinner. The staff was friendly, and although I didn't speak Spanish, they did their best to accommodate me. I went with a margarita and ribeye tacos. I love a ribeye, so why not? It was truly unique. My only regret was eating that grilled serrano pepper.... good lawd, my stomach was on fire. Stayed in the polanco area and this was walking distance from our hotel. Came to drink (and eat) here on our last night out. Had many shots of tequila and Paloma drinks which were good. The empanadas were amazing, light crispy with potato and beef I think. I didn't get a picture of the mole but omg the sauce flavor was sooooo on point. Rice was a little mushy so not a favorite of mine. Chips were crispy and salsas were flavorful. We also got the steak with shrimp and mushrooms- nothing special about it but was good. The ambiance is loud inside and mellow outside but I think this all depends on the time of day honestly. Had tvs with boxing match or soccer. After touching down in CDMX and settling into our nearby hotel, this place looked inviting as we watched from our 26th story hotel room. On the ground, it looked just as quaint. When you enter the front door, it isn't readily apparent if there is self-seating or who is there to seat you. We eventually settled on a curbside seat. On all sides, there were gregarious parties of people enjoying the outdoor cantina vibe. When it comes to service and food, however, "Houston, we have a problem". We had to flag down a server, who then referred us to another server. Once we ordered and the food finally arrived, it was meh at best. Tacos and enchiladas were nothing to write home about; This place was a convenient choice and we were hungry so it sufficed at the moment. Came here because it was close to my hotel, the w hotel. It was about a 2-minute walk. The menu seemed pretty reasonably priced. Ordered the El Paso tacos, a margarita, a beer and then the waiter pressured me into getting tequila. I opted to sit inside even though it was pretty nice out. The restaurant was pretty empty, but there were a few people at the bar. when I sat down they gave me the menu and asked me what I wanted to drink and when I ordered my drink they gave me a basket of chips with salsa. I ordered my tacos and they came out pretty quickly. It's pretty no frills, just Al pastor meat and they give you a side of onions and cilantro. The tacos were pretty standard, nothing special about them. Honestly, this tacos I had in New York were way better. The margarita was decent, but tasted weak. It said it had mezcal in it but I didn't taste it at all. It did taste like mango and that was nice I guess? The beer I got was from a bottle, I do not think they have any draft beers. The waiter did not speak English, only Spanish but we managed to get by. He asked me three or four times if I wanted tequila. The first three times I said no, but then the fourth time I figured when in Mexico why not? I said yes of the tequila and it came out with a shot of tomato juice. Apparently that's how they do it in Mexico which is pretty cool. When the bill came apparently he gave me the most expensive tequila on the menu. I didn't realize that he was going to do that and am pretty disappointed by it. The tequila tasted decent but not like the best tequila that I've ever had. I feel pretty cheated by this. When paying the bill he also added his own tip which was 20%, probably because I'm American. I'm not a fan of how he did that either. overall I feel like there are other places around these hotels that would be better than this place, and would not come here because of the shady service. read more

We had a spa reservation but we were absolutely famished and found this gem. There was an Indy Car race happening (we don't follow) but the whole staff was dressed in their Indy gear and the restaurant was PACKED watching the race. It's a super cute interior with comfortable and plentiful seating. We ordered the guacamole and the ribeye tacos to share and both were delicious as were the two complimentary salsas and chips they brought us. After a long day of traveling from Puebla and touring the National Archaeological Museum, we just wanted to go somewhere close to our airbnb. We grabbed a table outside, really liked the ambience. They had English menu and we were greeted by a very friendly server who spoke good English (hubby appreciated that because he doesn't speak Spanish), so we knew right away it's a touristy spot. But sometimes that's nice! We were visiting a few smaller cities before we arrived in CDMX, so it was a nice change of pace. I got Ajillo shrimp and he got steak tacos - they were both pretty good. Drinks were good too. All in all, it's a good place to hang out - lunch, dinner or late night eats/drinks. For entree I ordered a Mexican-style crepe, filled with chicken and cream. It was the most bland food I have ever had in Mexico. Reminds me of baby food. Loved this place! We spent a few days in Polanco and stayed at a hotel across the street from Karisma. That was the first place we stopped by for a drink and were there at least twice a day every day. The service was EXCELLENT! The drinks and food were good and the place is nice and cozy. Very safe and comfortable. It seems like there's quite a few locals/regulars there and everyone gets great service not just the regulars. The bartender was so helpful and knowledgeable. We enjoyed drinking at the bar and just watching them work behind the bar. We visited several fun bars/restaurants in Polanco but by far this was our favorite. It was the first place we visited and also the last stop before going to the airport. Awesome job Karisma. read more

We had to meet a friend who was staying at the Hyatt Regency. Karisma is located right across the street from the hotel, which made it the perfect meeting spot. The food was definitely not the best I had while in Mexico City, but it still blows most Mexican restaurants in the US out of the water. I had the Indio Crepes, which came in a delightfully earthy yet creamy sauce. Others in the group enjoyed the tacos and tostadas on offer as well. The cocktails we tried were all fantastic (and not ridiculously overpriced, which I was impressed by given the location), but the beer is nothing special (lots of Pacifico on offer, though). The bar portion of the place is definitely a *lot* rowdier than the restaurant portion of it.
