I ordered this on Uber eats and really wanted to enjoy it. I ordered the brown stew chicken with cabbage and rice and beans with extra sauce. But what I got was a lot of oil instead of sauce which you can see in the photo. I didn't particularly care for the seasoning of the brown stew sauce either and the cabbage was over cooked. I see so many great reviews about other items on the menu and it makes me wonder if I just ordered the wrong thing. I'm only in town for a few days, so unfortunately I won't find out if anything is better. I also ordered a beef patty and I didn't care for that either. Maybe it was just a bad night. I was actually looking for a veggie plate and found Miss Ela's. I wasn't too happy about the choice of the veggie plate. I'm used to some potatoes,callaloo, plantains, cabbage and maybe noodles but the veggie plate was rice, cabbage and plantains and it just wasn't appealing enough for me to order. So after perusing the menu, the settled on Goat because it's my second favorite to oxtails which I just refuse to buy due to the increase in cost. NEVERTHELESS! Miss Ela DID NOT disappoint with the goat! Nice and tender and the gravy was proper! Rice and peas you can taste the creaminess of the fresh coconut milk and the cabbage was nice. From the moment we walked in we were greeted by a friendly employee who treated us like family. She made several recommendations and took the time to explain the ingredients. Did not get frustrated or make us feel rushed at all since we were indecisive. We finally decided to share two separate dinners. 1-curry goat, rice w/ beans, and cabbage. 2-Brown stewed chicken with rice and cabbage... also tried a beef patty. She brought our food to us, as were seated in a small dining room with nicely decorated walls an electric fireplace and hanging tv. Soft island music playing made an enjoyable welcoming feeling. Since I was hungry I decided to stop in. The interior is setup more like a takeout establishment, with roughly two tables to sit at if you want to eat inside. I had a serving of beans and rice and a Jamaican chicken patty, which closely resembles an empanada. Both were delicious and full of flavor. Let me start with the Good Good= friendly staff, clean inside ,nice size portions and variety of choices. Now the not so good/ needs improvement Not so Good=wait times are horrific . They say 30 you better have 60-90 min The consistency of food is poor . There was a 30-40 min wait but we ordered spur of the moment After our first meal we decided this was the place we were going to get hubby's bday food ..... When we came back for the Second visit was a huge disappointment I called in my order at 11:30 right when they opened to try and give plenty of time .. was told 40 min and planned accordingly . When we arrived at the appointed time the food wasn't ready yet so we waited .. we didn't receive our food until another 40-45 min for a total of close to an hour and a half from the time we ordered. This was for my husbands birthday and we were meeting family in the park so it pushed our plans back a bit . Also the dozen BBQ wings we received did not seem fresh and were tough almost like they were from the day before and warmed up and this too was our first time trying the goat curry, which in my opinion could have been cooked a little longer as it was not as tender as we are used to with curry goat we have had other places which was very disappointing given it is one of the higher priced menu items . Unfortunately the second visit was not the best . The wait time beyond what was stated ,an error with bill ,the quality of the wings, and the curry goat after spending double our first visit left me a bit sad. They seemed a bit short staffed which we all have gotten used to with this pandemic . The lady who took our order and was going back and forth to the kitchen was very nice which was wonderful . I want to support this business and even gave a generous tip for my take out both times in support . The area needs more variety of food but if it isn't consistently good and prepared in a timely manner it isn't worth the hype. I would suggest if you don't have the staffing take pre orders the day before and cut off orders at a certain time and make fresh food ready on time . We tried them out about a month ago, and now they have become a weekly destination for us. We love their food. We've tried the jerk chicken, the barbecue jerk chicken the fried chicken, as well as each of their meat pies. All of the chicken dishes were Too Notch! We really enjoyed the vegetable pie and the beef pie. The chicken pie was OK. The only thing that we had that we didn't quite take two, was the dumpling. We tasted it. Nice thick nectar punch drink. We decided add some rum and made it even better. Jerk wings is really good. Spicy is about medium tasting wings for me. A lot of great spice and deep flavor. Goat curry is really flavorful. I could use a more spicer. Goat meat is juicy and very tender. Rice and bean is very flavorful. Escovitch snapper is great. Its not spicy. A little sour note and so happy is whole fish with head. I grew up eating whole fish and really enjoy it. The food overall is great. I would definitely be back for more. Lots of food. It is rare i write a review. I accidentally stumbled upon this when searching for delivery. We have a Caribbean place we usually go to but Elas is close by. Figured we try it. When we first opened the boxes I thought ohh noo..looks nothing like the other place. Now I can say Holy **** this was fantastic! The jerk was spicy on the backside, didn't slam you on the 1st bite...loved that it was bone in chicken. The wings...spot on. My kid who is vegetarian loved the plantains. Portions are huge, my husband and I each ordered the jerk chicken and we didn't finish 1 serving between us. Meat patties were fabulous. Really can't complain about 1 bite of food. It would be Zero if Zero was an option. I ordered my food over the phone and they said 30 minutes and the food would be ready...I leave work on break and haul A** to Ela's. I arrive at the 30 minute mark, she says it will be right up shortly...I wait another 25 minutes to receive my order. A total of 55 minutes for 1 order.
