Parking was $19.00 for the first three hours with validation. The art museum is truly a gem of Los Angeles. It can be challenging to reserve tickets because open time slots fill up quickly, especially during the summer months when many people are on vacation. The artwork on display is mesmerizing, beautiful, and thought-provoking. Personally, I appreciated every single piece of art I observed, as so much work, love, and dedication went into each item on display that one can only wonder what the artists were thinking or feeling as they created their masterpieces. The entire museum is well-maintained, spotless, and fun. Security is extremely important, as evidenced by the many staff members closely monitoring the large crowds around each section of the museum. Staff members are also there to answer any questions. I wish to rerun here very soon with family and friends, as our visit was educational, inspiring, and fun.

Even though the museum is free, I suggest getting tickets on line to reserve a timed-entry in advance, It does get crowded. I did notice that there are some exhibits that require a separate paid ticket. Parking was $29 unless validated. Then it dropped down to $19. Definitely worth visiting. You won't be disappointed.

Just a note, I am an absolute beginner and have not done hula in the past. So, I was a bit intimidated and overwhelmed with all the searching and visiting. I didn't find much on here, but I decided to contact them anyways. I heard back and I was invited to come check out a class. I felt so welcomed by everyone's warm and smiling faces. I really felt the aloha spirit here! I immediately felt some sort of connection, and a sense that it was already my home. And honestly, I don't have many other haluas to compare to since I only got into contact with two other places. But I stopped my search and decided to join on the spot! So let me break it down!! HHMA has open enrollment once a year...usually in July for people interested in the halua. It goes on until about September. Everyone who is new to the halua, must go through one year of the beginners group (papa lehua). No matter how long you have been dancing, this is the protocol! In this year, you will learn about the beautiful Hawaiian culture/ language, chants, songs, and dances. And you will work up to your graduation, which you will perform all that you have learned in your year. And after you graduate from the beginners class, the class gets separated and placed into the other classes based on your age/ dancing level. And just so you know, they do offer a ukulele class as well! But that's a whole other topic! Here's my personal hula journey, I actually just graduated from the beginners class. And in my beginners class, there are people who have been dancing for many years. And beginners with no real dancing experience like me. And we all learn to dance in sync with each other which I think is pretty cool!! And reflecting back from the first day I started, I have learned so much and have come a very long way! I am having such an amazing time getting to know my hula brothers and sisters. I really have bonded with everyone..we practice, laugh together, and support one another. Coming to class is my highlight of the week! It is so much more than a halua and we are really an ohana (family)..we have ceremonies, events, and potluck parties. Lastly, Kumu Nani (hula teacher) is very reputable in the hula community, so I really feel honored to be learning from someone so prestigious. Kumu is very kind, passionate, takes her hula very seriously, and really dedicated to the HHMA ohana!! Shout out to all her board members too they are all so helpful and will give you love, support and all constructive criticism to be your best!! The dance studio is spacious, clean, and homely. It is located in a small plaza across the street from the cemetery. I am so blessed to have found HHMA. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend anyone curious or interested to come check this place out! You will not be disappointed!

Review #919 2025-096…read more My son is taking Cantonese 2 at South Bay Chinese School & placed 1st on 10/11/25 Penmanship Competition, earning an entry to compete in the 11/16/25 Southern California Council of Chinese Schools 2025 Fall Academic Competition (南加州中文學校聯合會 2025 秋季學術比賽) in Beginner Level Penmanship (硬筆寫字 初級組) held at Arcadia High School. He also placed penmanship previously: 1st in 2023 - 2024 school year & 4th in 2024 - 2025 but I missed the emails to confirm for the regional competition. (洛杉磯華僑文教服務中心). It was quite a production... taking almost 2 hours! I'm so proud of my l'il one. I believe he was the only Cantonese student awardee in the ceremony (though I did see an awardee from the Chinese School of San Diego, not sure if the student was in the Mandarin or Cantonese program but it's a higher probability that the student is in their Mandarin program), even more proud that he's trying to continue to learn about his heritage & representing Cantonese since it's so difficult to find a Chinese school that teaches Cantonese. Due to the influx of 300+ people attending the ceremony, their private lot was jam packed but we arrived early enough to find free street parking. I also found out from our school that the Office was giving away books to attendees on a first come first serve basis; I picked up a Chinese chicken recipe book that provided the recipes in English & Chinese, & M grabbed a couple of Chinese comic books (we may need to use Google Translate's camera to try & "read" them). I'm not familiar with CCTECO, but there's a lot of art displayed in their lobby. There's also several conference rooms for meetings, & a large auditorium (where the awards ceremony was held). The Office is located on Telstar Ave. in a somewhat isolated part of El Monte. I was surprised to learn from their website of the original Culture Center in Los Angeles Chinatown (I born & raised in Chinatown & don't remember seeing this center), & the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) relocated the center to Santa Ana in 09/2005 to serve Orange County. I'm not likely to visit Culture Center of Taipei Economic & Culture Office in L.A. again unless my son continues to compete in Chinese school competitions.

Parking is never a problem here - there are plenty of spaces and the parking lot is free. There are restrooms (and lots of them). And the amenities have generally been well kept across the years I've been here. I've submitted college applications for universities in Taiwan here. I've also come here for multiple music performances, attended leadership conferences, joined TAP or TJCC hosted events here, and much more. You can also renew your Taiwan passport here - they're really helpful and can also answer any questions via phone call (but they might speak limited English).

I cannot say enough wonderful things about our experience here at Rubel Castle. Our host, guide,…read moreand local "Rubelligent" volunteer, Ms. Kathleen had all the intel about this historical property. She was so knowledgeable and helped set the stage for us to slip into a forgotten era and get a glimpse of how imagination met inventiveness with a DIY charm. ~ A LITTLE BACKSTORY FOR YOU ~ It's not pronounced Rubel as Barney from Flintstones. Rather, it's like Target is to Targét when we are trying to be fancy. So that's Rubel as in "Roo-bell." Unlike modern-day construction, Rubel Castle wasn't built overnight. It was made of collected recyclables and construction rubble that spanned many decades and took several friends and volunteers to build it. For Michael, however, the lifetime inspiration was first sparked at the age of 9. His love for canons was where it started and the rest is history you can hear about on the tour. But don't just show up like we did randomly one day. To book, visit RubelTours.org and make a reservation. ~ OUR TOUR EXPERIENCE ~ It's as if Michael Rubel, the creator and mastermind of this enchanted dominion had intended it to be--magical. Built in the castle period of wood and tin, every corner captured our interests, from antique cars to the 1890's Seth Thomas Tower Clock with a unique backstory (and only six in existence today). There were old vending machines, tools, trinkets, and machinery that time had long forgotten. Did I mention there was a drawbridge? Yes, and a dungeon too. I was just waiting for a dragon to come swoop down on us next. Walk in the footsteps of famous visitors like Alfred Hitchcock, Dwight Eisenhower, Jack Benny, and Bob Hope. It's a feast for the eyes no matter where you glance. I particularly enjoyed the bottle house that Michael built in 1968 as his "home" as a kid. That independent spirit was quite charming to see. ~ WATERCOLOR NATURESCAPE ~ We were fortunate to have our gracious host lead us on a tour and organize a special art crafting experience outdoors. It was absolutely lovely beneath the trees and between rusted vintage cars from the turn of the century. We each got a small canvas to paint our flowers in watercolor. (This particular experience takes place in the Spring and Fall, weather permitting.) We heard the squirrels rattling in the leaves and birds chirped and sang in the trees above. We discovered that peacocks apparently originated from this property, compliments of Michael Rubel. And did I mention that on the far side of the property, a custom garden was in full bloom? A castle in Glendora? Yes, your eyes aren't deceiving you--Rubel Castle is real, it's magnificent,…read moreand it's gloriously eccentric. Thanks to the sheer persistence (and probably delightful stubbornness) of Michael Rubel, we now have this quirky, towering State Treasure sitting right in the middle of Glendora like a fairy tale that accidentally took a detour through a hardware store. This place is beautifully done, and part of its charm is that it's a full-on hodgepodge of relics, antiques, crystal trinkets, and "wait... what is that doing here?" moments tucked into every nook and cranny. You'll marvel, you'll laugh, you'll squint in confusion--honestly, it's everything you'd want in a castle built with love, imagination, and a dash of madness. And let's talk about the makeshift cemetery. Quirky? YES. Fun? Absolutely. Slightly spooky? Only if your imagination is over-caffeinated. But it fits the vibe perfectly--like the castle whispered, "You know what I'm missing? A tiny cemetery." The tours are fantastic, the guides are passionate, and the whole experience feels like you're stepping into a living scrapbook of California history and charming chaos. Overall: Amazing, amazing place. Book your tour. They only do tours every first Sunday of the month, so set your alarms, mark your calendars, tie a string around your finger--just don't miss it. Rubel Castle is truly a California State Treasure, and an absolute must-see for anyone who appreciates creativity, history, and a little eccentric sparkle.

I finally had a chance to visit for a Tarzana Music Night last week. What a fun event! Because the weather was being forecasted to be cool with the potential of rain, the event was held indoors. Things were comfortable, but we were in close quarters with the other attendees. The sound was great and the performances were a lot of fun. I was primarily there to see a good friend perform, but I also had the chance to see some other talented musicians. I think each one was a singer songwriter, and I enjoyed each performance. Each one of the people that was working at the venue, which I imagine may have been on a volunteer basis, was friendly and a lot of fun. Normally the music nights are held outdoors, and I can imagine that most of the year, it is a lot of fun being in the open air.

What a cool place I never knew was here! Check out their events on their website! If you write them…read morethey will write you back too. They have a small outdoor stage with string lights hanging beautifully all around, a few picnic tables and fold out chairs for when there's an event to watch. When the chairs aren't there I imagine thats what they use for the outdoor dance floor under the stars, too! A few people brought their dogs on leash. I saw a few people brought in their own food, chilled out and ate while they watched the live band. They do have a very small amount of drinks, chips, and cookies for sale at a stand but thats it so if you don't want junk food def bring what you do want. They do have an indoor bathroom. PARKING - Def uber/LYFT to them. There are only a few spots in the back you can get to from the side street (not from Ventura blvd) and thats it! So do yourself a favor and get a ride. Lyft must know about this place because the driver knew exactly where to meet us in the back when we booked our return. For us it was a calm but fun summer evening hang outside! I don't know what its like without a band playing but hope I get a chance to check that out too.
