I just saw Dr Jones for my initial physical today and I'm very impressed. She's congenial, easy to talk to, explains things well, intelligent, experienced... I'm so relieved to have found her. Her entire office staff are happy, eager to help and competent. That might seem expected but it hasn't been my experience with past doctor's offices. It has taken me over 10 years to write this review. I made the mistake of taking my 80 yr old father to Dr Jones. We were seen by her nurse practitioner who wanted to do an ultrasound but needed Dr Jones approval. She walked in, did not even make eye contact with us, saw his chart and notes and rejected the ultrasound. I followed her out of the room begging her to do it and she never even looked back. I was barely able to walk him back to my car on my own and for liability reasons the office staff said they could not help us. We had to rush my dad by ambulance to emergency in the middle of that next night. He had scar tissue that had blocked his intestines and fluid that gotten in his lungs. We lost him the next day. The first thing the E R doctor said to me was that he could not comprehend how they had not done an ultrasound at the Drs office earlier that day and that it very well could have saved his life. read more

Second trip here but my first time meeting Dr. Jones. I needed a prescription and a couple vaccinations for my upcoming trip and everything happened so quickly. Just a warning Dr. Jones speaks pretty FAST so if you came to visit her try writing things down or record her while she's speaking! She was able to answer all my questions but I felt like my head was spinning after! Dr. Jones and the rest of her staff is very nice and I hope to build a long relationship with her. In dealing with her staff over the phone they were friendly and I was able to make an appointment within a couple days easy. She's always in a rush. She comes in talking, typing on her laptop, and leaves in ten minutes. That's it. She doesn't explain what she's prescribing you, why she thinks that's the best option, or if you do or not have any other options. It took forever for her to send me to a specialist for my fibroid. One day I finally came to see her and told her that the 800 mg of Tylenol that she told me to take, was not even making a dent! I was bending over from pain at that point, from the cramps I would get. I recently came back to ask her for a prescription to deal with some unusual stress from work. She gave me a lecture of how I should be grateful for my job and not get to that point. That was pretty upsetting for me (ironically adding to the stress- like I needed that on top of it all!) If you have any questions for her, better write them down and be ready. I've caught her in the hallway to ask her a question, on her way out! No kidding. I've been coming to her for ten years just because her office is so close to where I live, but it's always like if she sees me for the first time. I use this place as a vending machine for medication if I need something "simple". I don't trust her judgement at all. read more

My trip to office today makes me wonder about Continuing Education for MDs. Another reviewer indicated she was 'old school' which I normally wouldn't mind, but her antiquated knowledge and bedside manner go far beyond that. Not only did I waste time, energy, hope, and copay $, I also was told maybe I'm tired because I'm a little heavier and might have sleep apnea. WTH?! Um. No. I saw another review that mentioned something about Dr. Jones telling another patient they're big while not addressing reason why for the visit. Perhaps it's a pattern. Thick patients= "You're _ because you're fat". Heck, who needs a medical degree to come to that conclusion?! Thanks to Yelp for me seeing I'm not alone here. I really wanted to see a MD today, and technically I guess I did but... never again will I return to see Dr. Jones. read more

Dr. Jones has an outwardly nice personality, but is not a good doctor. Gives improper care that in some cases, such as mine, causes serious complications. She's unable to do small, simple procedures that most doctors are able to do. She has a very "old-school" approach that means she will suggest you use a neti pot and vaporizer, even if you've had a sinus infection for a month and now have a fever. I'm all for trying natural remedies first, but if they don't work, conventional medicine is at times needed. I would steer clear. p.s. Her associate Dr. Swift is just as bad. Been to both, and sadly they're both pretty awful. I've had a better experience at the CVS Minute Clinic in Manhattan Beach. read more

A coworker recently asked for doctor recommendations and I realized that other people might be interested as well... I really love my current doctor! After my first two visits I was so-so when I saw the RN and didn't get to talk to the doctor, but in my visits since, it's been great. I go to this practice, but I don't love it and I don't recommend it. Various reasons, like others have mentioned, they're always rushing, except when you need them to hurry. The most annoying thing is how slow they are to get back to pharmacies about routine prescriptions. You'll go to pick up a new packet of a daily med; it won't be there; it won't be there the next day either. Only then will you hear that they want you to come in for a check up. After you've wasted time and missed doses. This happens to me at least once a year, only from them. Jerking around with patient's meds instead of calling them isn't the mark of a practice that actually cares about health, is it? Update: today is typical. Nurse handed me a paper gown 33 minutes ago. I've been waiting in the paper gown ever since. Scheduled routine appt, here on time, and still I sit alone in an exam room, half naked, for more than half an hour (and counting). Time management is a sore weakness in this practice. read more

I was a patient of Dr. Jones for 10 years and after what happened today, I am in search of a new provider. I scheduled my annual exam for November 2013. Dr. Jones was too busy to see me (which happens often), so I was treated by Nurse practitioner, Lea Pascual. Lea spent the entire appointment talking about herself and was not attentive to my needs or concerns. When it came time for me to get my annual prescriptions, she told me she sent them directly to my pharmacy. When I went to pick them up, I realized Lea Pascual did NOT give me a year supply of my asthma medication Symbicort, which I have been on for 4 years. The pharmacy called Lea Pascual and Dr. Jones 6 times to refill it, but they ignored the 6 requests from the pharmacy and 2 which came from me. I was finally told today by Dr. Jones that in order to get my medication, I must come back in for ANOTHER office visit (when I just had my annual exam 2 months ago). This is absurd. I have always received a years worth of refills during my annual exam. I refuse to be billed for an office visit every month just to refill my Symbicort. I was never thrilled with Dr. Jones' care, but this is the final straw. I need to find a doctor who cares about me and treats me with respect. read more

I have been a patient of Dr Jones for over 10 years and have been satisfied until now. I was experiencing horrible back pain, called for an emergency visit and was told no doctor , whether it was Jones or another ,would be able to see me for over a week. Very disappointed that as a good long term patient I am treated that way. I called 3 days in a row and had basically the same answer every day. I will be looking for a new doctor. Dr. Jones is professional, reliable, intelligent, and friendly. I have been her patient for many years. She knows my health history, and asks me specific questions at each visit. She has referred me to specialists when necessary. She is personable too, and we have had discussions regarding current books that we are reading. I rarely go to a doctor. When I need to its hard to get an appt so I just use the urgent care after hours downstairs. Dr Jones is ok she seems nice enough but I really just continue to go here because its close. The receptionist staff are rude and unhelpful. First of all because of a mistake made by Dr. Jones, my dad was given the wrong referral. He is 89 years old and due to a fall has been in a tremendous amount of pain. I've been trying to get the proper emergency referral. My dad can't sleep and the constant pain is taking a toll on his well-being. This Dr. nor her employees seem to care. I hadn't heard whether or not the emergency referral went through or not, and when checking up on how it was proceeding the receptionist very rudely assured me that the staff was doing their best. When someone is suffering to the extent that my dad is, they're not doing their best. My dad stubbornly insists on being a patient of Dr. Jones - even though I've tried to convince him otherwise, I have to respect his wishes. I obviously would find another Dr in a heartbeat if I could get him to do so. Just for background, about 8 years ago, my mom complained of not feeling well and felt a growth in her abdominal area. Dr. Jones' diagnoses was that she had the flu and was overweight, she did no tests to confirm her diagnosis. Despite feeling very ill my mom was still working at the time. She had asked Dr. Jones to write a note to her employer so that she could take some time off from work. Dr. Jones refused. It turns out that my mom in fact had advanced cancer - she was gone within less than 2 months. I can't make my dad see another Dr., but if you have the choice, please see someone else or if you're in charge of your parents care, please choose another Dr. It's so difficult to sit back and watch your parents or any loved one suffer like this. read more

Pros: She knows her stuff., the staff is friendly and professional, it's close to home, and they take my HMO insurance. Cons: There is always a long wait, and I don't feel like she takes enough time to build a relationship with her patients. She is very friendly, don't get me wrong. But I always feel like she is seeing me for the first time - it would be nice if she took a minute to get to know me and build a real doctor/patient connection. read more

I don't understand why Dr. Jones can't work to prevent the endless wait that comes with every appointment. I specifically asked for the first appt just to try and avoid sitting in her waiting room for 30-60 minutes which tends to be the average. And yet, guess what? Already twenty minutes waiting. And as usual, the front office staff says nothing. Good customer service is letting people know if the doctor is late. The disrespect shown to her patients is just incredible. She's a very nice physician but whoever is running her office clearly did not study how to keep appointments running on time and how to communicate to patients. This has been the case long enough that at this point Dr. Jones does have culpability. But I don't think she cares. Pack the patients in and the profits go up. Who cares about wasting their time as long as you get to earn money. Ridiculous. read more

This Doctor is a straight shooter. 9 years ago she told me if I didn't get my health in order I may have an early death. She wrote down all the things working against me. I was terrified. I lost 65 pounds and improved my HDL by 16 points. My cholesterol is perfect with no meds. MY BP is in a healthy range. Dr Jones popped my idealistic bubble. I workout 4 days per week. I eat less processed foods and a lot more fruits and vegetables. I needed firm words to get healthy. It worked. read more

I am so surprised of the negative reviews. I have been going here for about 15 years and only have the highest marks for everyone who works here. I see Dr. Jones and she has always been very pleasant and professional. Is she absolutely a perfect human being? No, who is? but she is a very caring and excellent doctor. She has always answered all my questions and offer suggestions on my health. She is fast but all doctors are fast but she is patience and will stay with you as long as you have questions. I have also seen Dr Swift and he is also excellent. He is not a pill pusher and will offer you alternative methods. The office staff is always polite and I have never had a problem with getting an appointment. They have gotten rid of all Nurse Practitioners and now have 4 doctors in the office. read more

Dr Elaine Jones has been my primary care physician since 2004. I have always had a pleasant experience, although it does take time to get in for a routine appointment. I was surprised about the negative comments.....Dr. Jones conducts a good interview, makes referrals based on areas of specialty, and has a good professional bedside manner. In the medical system today it is not the fault of our physicians if they only have limited time to spend with each person....times are tough with shortages in medical professionals, especially in SoCal. When immediate concerns arise she has a team of fabulous nurses and staff that will reach her the same day and call you back,. Doctor is good, nurses are great, but ABSOLUTELY absurd and unacceptable wait time! Extremely frustrating to have to wait 45 minutes to an hour for each visit! They schedule way too many people for the amount of time needed. Both my recent visits were for simple shots (last Fall for the flu and this month for travel vaccines) - each time it took an hour and a half. Next time I will get flu shot at Costco or drug store and avoid the major hassle. read more

Like other reviewers, I found Dr Jones rude, abrupt and uncaring. After seeing her for a few years, I complained to her about just generally not feeling well. She didn't offer any reasonable solutions, so I asked her for a referral to a dietician, thinking I might feel better if I ate better. She made the referral listing diabetes as the reason. When I went to the dietician, he told me a diabetic diet wasn't the issue, rather I should be concerned about a kidney diet. Holy Cow, Batman! I truly believe this dietician saved my life! With his help, I got a referral to a Nephrologist. With just a few tests and an MRI, this doctor told me I had a "mass" in my left kidney. Eventually I had surgery to remove the mass which turned out to be cancerous. I now feel great again, but two years after the surgery, I still keep thinking about how close I came to death! How could Dr Jones have missed this? Was the dietician more medically trained than this MD? A word of advice - Stay away from Dr Jones, your life may be in danger. read more

Dr Jones is good but always in such a hurry she is nervous and running around like crazy. I went to see the new doctor Khan, avoid her at all cost. I am 5'3" and weigh 125 lbs and her only recommendation to me was to stop all medication and become a vegan. She refused to refill my blood pressure medication that I have been taking for years. I hope she is right, if not, I might have a stroke. read more

I'll be changing doctors this year because I don't have confidence in the doctors at this office. When my blood pressure registered as borderline high, Dr. Jones immediately wrote me a prescription. I couldn't believe that she didn't bother to ask me about my lifestyle or family history, or offer non-prescription ideas to lower it with a follow-up appointment to see if they worked. No, just BAM--here's your prescription! At the same appt., I had to remind her to give me a colonoscopy referral. Isn't that now a milestone part of a physical at age 50? The next time I needed a doctor I saw Dr. Swift, who practices from the same office. He was the opposite-- I'd had a headache for 11 days straight and he told me I could take an unbelievable number of Advil each day and that he thought it would go away! The reason I've stayed with this office for years is that at least Dr. Jones readily gives referrals to specialists. Both are nice people, but I want more than "nice" in a doctor. read more
