Thursday night was the Boca Raton Bowl. The Boca Bowl is an annual NCAA DIVISION 1 football game. FAU has been hosting this bowl game since 2014. USF played Syracuse. Both my boys were in town and we got free tickets through Rotary so we made it a family night. Plenty of tailgating before the game. Live entertainment, food stands, games and raffles. The stadium was half empty which was pretty sad. This isn't UF where you're packed in with 90000 Gator fans. We did have access to the Premier Club sponsored by Acura. Entrance on the very top of the stadium is with a wrist band only. Free buffet style food is offered, free soft drinks, as well as way overpriced cocktails, beer and assorted alcoholic beverages. The lounge has big screen TVs and seating and there was a DJ. USF pounded Syracuse 45-0.

It was a bit overwhelming, but once inside, it was worth it. Guests were allowed to bring chairs and blankets, so we were able to settle in comfortably with friends and enjoy a great spot for the show. The band was absolutely fabulous, delivering all the Billy Joel favorites and creating a fantastic atmosphere. With such a massive crowd, it felt like a record-breaking turnout. We even spotted Billy Joel's wife and two young children in attendance, which had us wondering if Billy himself might make a surprise appearance. Maybe next time! Food and beverage vendors were available throughout the venue, although I didn't notice many healthy food options. Boca Raton's new mayor, Andy Thomson, spoke briefly before the concert began. Most of all, I'm grateful that Boca offers a venue like this and the opportunity to enjoy outstanding live music outdoors for free. It's truly a community treasure, and I encourage everyone to take advantage of this beautiful space and the wonderful events it hosts. It did get a bit more muggy as the evening went on but it was tolerable for sure!

They call it the burrow, but it needs to be louder and there was no students at the game at all. FAU is in a major conference, so it's disappointing that crowd was small, but we enjoyed the game and the venue.

Students from FAU performed for a good size audience and the event encouraged people to dance right in front of the stage, making the evening very fun and lively. It's located "on the hill" near the visual arts center and the Arts Complex. As you walk in there is a desk for tickets, will call or information. We got our tickets online, so we just showed our QR code at the entrance of the auditorium and got seated. It's a large size theater venue with great acoustics and comfortable seating. We parked for free in Parking Garage 2, which is only a block away.

There's always activities for newcomers to feel at home. Games days are also awesome! Parking is the downside. Never anywhere to park when school is in session. I recommend coming early if you don't want to be miles away from campus. There is a shuttle for students to take when parking far, but who wants to have to do that? Check out the food court and gym! Those are my 2 favorite places. Gotta life Chick-fil-A's milkshakes! The bar on campus outside of the dining hall is also a cool place to grab a beer and sometimes there's live bands/entertainment.

The Directors Frank Borge and Caroline put a lot of trust in me. Caroline had me modeling for the artists. Sometimes when the Darcie " Teaches of the Art" was busy. Sometimes of the patriots would ask me to do the tours. Every Wedsday night, a different bank in Boca Raton would sponsor a banquet at the Museum. Bank Presidents would come and ask for me to assist in what they needed. And Frank and Caroline trusted me enough to do the right thing. I don't know how to explain how this made me feel and the confidence it gave me. See, in my High School years I was told I was too dumb to live in this world. Now, I was in the Military, worked in Law Enforcement. But, I still had that stigma in the back of my head that I was dumb. Now, I was a leader in the Military and Law Enforcement. But, even though you have to think, guide the troops, make sure they got the right training and be safe. A lot was physical demanding work. So I didn't know how to appreciate that work like I should. But, when I started at Boca Raton Museum of Arts. The mental stimulation , the trust they put in me was unbelievable to me. Sometimes, when things get a little to busy. And someone needed something done. I would often hear Frank, Caroline and other staff the patriots, vendors and staff. " Ask Albert" he knows what to do". That trust along made me not question their judgment. I just stepped in and did what I was taught by them, staff and the Darcies. I met a lot of interesting people that welcomed me to the art world. I can't draw, paint, sculpture or any of those crafts. But, The Boca Raton Museum of Arts. The citizen of Boca Raton had me trained like I was a professional of the arts. I met Dorothy Glimpses, Rajas, Jerry Wise in person. I was sad when I had to leave. I even modeled for the professional arts and the amateurs. Calvin Campbell a renown water colors did a couple of paintings of me. I still have one he and the museum gave me. I will post on the site. Pardon me! I had some names wrong. I mention a Frank Borge. The name is George Borge, who was the CEO/Director of the Boca Raton Museum. Frank is actually " Richard Frank" who was on the Director's team and a resident Arts. And I forgot to mention Mrs. Ginsberg, who was one of the Darcie, she was 91 yo. She taught me a lot about reading the art and trying to read the story that the artist was telling. I would take her to doctor's appointments, grocery shopping. And on weekends pick her up on Saturdays and Sundays take her to the Museum. I even supervised the tile painting that the children would do for the floor in the children department of new Nordstrom stores. At the time Nordstrom was opening in the Wellington Green Mall of Wellington. Each time a new Nordstrom opens Jerry Wise conducts a tile painting session for a week. The children in the surrounding area will Paige tiles. Then Jerry Wise, who is a famous horticulturist that oversees the Nordstrom Museum in the state of Washington. Take the tiles back to Washington, coat and bake them. He then lay them in the new Nordstrom store.

They also had a huge skating rink, an entire 18 hole, miniature golf room, a huge trampoline room, an obstacle course that hung from the ceiling, virtual reality games and experiences, a ton of standard arcade games as well as a restaurant and bar. (they had so much that I'm probably forgetting something important!) We had the time of our lives! We killed zombies and road motorcycles and battled pirates, laughing, screaming, and yelling the entire time like three little kids. We stopped for a while and went to the bar and ordered nachos and Mojitos. The nachos were delicious (they were actually the best nachos I ever had! ) and they made a special Mojito that was also very good. After we ate and had a couple of drinks, we went back to playing arcade games. Before we got a chance to even do anything else we realized we had been there for five hours! By the time we left, it was getting very busy and we were exhausted but on top of the world. We had so much fun running around that place, each of us addicted to a different arcade game. We left with credits still on our cards so I am going back soon. Regardless of how old you are, put this on your list of things you want to check out because I promise, you won't regret it.

The new owners did an excellent job transforming the entire theatre--brand-new seats, screens, flooring, concessions, you name it. The upgrade feels total and intentional. The recliners are an absolute dream. They lay back into a full, almost horizontal position, and the option to heat your seat was a game changer for my sciatica and sciatica-related discomfort. That feature alone deserves applause. There are three seating tiers: Standard, Lux, and Dine-In. We chose the dine-in love seat to make the most of the 3.5-hour Avatar movie. The privacy panels around the seats made the experience feel cozy and surprisingly intimate--like watching a movie from your own living room, but better. We ordered mozzarella sticks, a hot dog, and popcorn. Yes, it's theatre food, but it was all fresh, tasty, and honestly better than most. Totally worth it. Now for the one disappointment--the cocktails. I ordered their "popular" Malibu rum mix and what arrived was straight juice. No rum. No hint of rum. My husband confirmed it wasn't just me--pure juice. On top of that, the bartender was slow; the drink didn't come out until we were halfway through eating. My advice: stick to beer or wine, and place drink orders separately from food. Even so, we had an amazing time. The movie quality was IMAX 3D, and it was flawless from start to finish--crisp, immersive, and top-notch. Overall, this theatre has leveled up in a big way. Comfortable, clean, modern, and thoughtfully designed. We'll absolutely be back and will 100% choose the same dine-in love seat recliners again. Highly recommend--just skip the cocktails!

This was the inaugural year for the Delray Walls Mural Fest, an art and music festival held in Old…read moreSchool Square in downtown Delray Beach. The event was created in collaboration with Galera Collective, a creative collective and mural artist management group. Friday kicked off the event with a reception and free concert with Gypsy Dust & The Resolvers at the amphitheater. On Saturday and Sunday artists painted on large panels displayed through the park. After the festival the panels will be moved throughout the city. Artists who participated in the mural painting included Ripes (Michael Goodman), Dome, Reds (Yenia Jaramillo), Chnk (Nicholas Mattioli), Arive - working with Space of Mind Students, Code (Cody Parker), Nico (Nicole Holderbaum), Buns (Zoe Genesis), PHD (Paul Hughes), Sarah Huang, Craig McInnis & Renata Rodrigues. The event also included food, drinks, and vendors along with face painting, sand art, bubbles and children's art projects. During the event, the Cornell Art Museum also located in Old School Square had a Delray Walls Artist Showcase inside the museum. The exhibit highlighted regional muralists who began their careers painting canvas, wood or creating sculptures and murals and also showcased all 12 Delray Walls artists gallery work inside the museum's lower level galleries. I love how this event had something for all ages to enjoy. On Sunday when I visited, children were enjoying The Little Merman, a Disney Tribute band. I appreciated that admission to the festival was free. Other than being held during the hottest July on record, I really enjoyed my time at the festival. I hope it becomes a Delray Beach summer tradition.

This venue is available for private events rentals, concerts , comedy, meetings and cultural celebrations. This is the most active entertainment spot in Coral Springs.

They meet every Wednesday at Galuppi's. The holiday market was held outside between Galuppi's parking lot and the Pompano Beach Dog Park. Parking was available across the street at Pompano Beach Community Park with a complimentary shuttle service. Admission to the market was free and it ran from 11 AM to 5 PM. The market featured vendors selling candles, soap, honey, jams, jelly, crystals, customized gifts, clothing, jewelry, accessories, art, crafts, plants, baked goods, and much more. There were also food trucks and holiday cocktails and other alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages for purchase. I even caught my first sight of the big guy himself, Santa Clause who posed for pictures with the kids. I really like that they held the market on Sunday because so many other local festivals were scheduled for Saturday. This was a nice way to kick off the holiday season, start the seasonal shopping, all while supporting a worthy local organization.

I know, it's not Heat, Dolphins, Marlins, or even Panthers. It's the Florida Launch, South Florida's own professional lacrosse team. Playing eight home games a season at FAU in Boca, tickets can be well below twenty dollars a piece. Not familiar with lacrosse? In many ways it is the oldest and newest sport around. Lacrosse was played by Native American Iroquois in the Northeastern United States. At the same time it is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States right now, especially in youth athletics. It seems that every new person I meet has their kid in lacrosse! I think you have to actually watch a lacrosse game to appreciate it. The kids love it because they get to pass the ball with big sticks. It has elements of soccer and hockey. It is fast and physical, usually with more scoring than hockey and baseball. The Launch, started by Casey Powell, one of the best lacrosse players ever, had their inaugural season in 2014. The crowds have definitely increased this year, although I can't say they are filling half of lower bowl at the FAU stadium. It is a fun family event for the kids and anyone who lives or is interested in the game. I am always impressed that the the players always take lots of time to sign autographs after the games. Sometimes they can be there for an hour signing the kids' balls, hats, shirts, and even sticks! It certainly makes the kids even more enthusiastic about coming to the games and gives the whole experience a true hometown, warm, "feel good" experience. Perhaps some of our other professional sports teams could learn from that! The Launch has done a better job of marketing this year with ticket packages and youth clinics. Believe it or not you can check out their games and other MLL games on ESPN! If you like what you see, you may want to come and check out a game in person. There are two more games left for the season...and then there is always next year!

For the…read moresecond year in a row, we enjoyed walking around and taking pictures of this delightfully decorated home. Over 170,000 lights framed the house and the decorations all over the yard. Many of them were mobile decorations, my favorite being the Christmas gift conveyor out of the Santa's workshop hut. Just ingenious and delightful. The family is very patient and very good with all people on their property. Some want to touch the moving train, the displays, the lights, and they politely say, please do not touch the displays. A great place to get into the Christmas spirit !
