We flew into Vegas around 6pm on Wednesday evening. This gave us enough time to take a $7 shuttle from the airport to the hotel, grab something to eat, hit the liquor store, and booze before we went out. We wanted to go at least two days early so we could do nightclubs and dayclub parties in addition to EDC. All of us, guys+girls, purchased tickets for the nightclubs and pool parties in advance to save some frustration. Advance tickets are cheap when considering how much drinks are at these places and it was definitely the best way to go for us. The Global Dance Electronic website does a nice job announcing all events for EDC week. Around the late April is when the events start popping up. Some don't show up until two weeks before EDC though, so if you wait for all the events to be posted, you'll likely be paying more money for the general admission tickets and some events may sell out. My suggestion is to find the dayclub or nightclub you want to go to and an artist that is not too popular because overcrowding is a serious issue for some of these parties. As long as you don't hate the DJ you will have a good time.
We went to a nightclub on Wednesday, dayclub Thursday, nightclub Thursday, and a dayclub on Friday. If you do a dayclub on Friday and are going to EDC, you will probably want to leave the dayclub early anyway to make it to EDC before traffic, so you can pick a DJ you don't really care about. When you buy advance tickets, they state a time to arrive in order to guarantee admission. I would stick to the times because the lines for these clubs get outrageous. The earlier the better, even though it seems like you'll be too early, everyone else has the same idea, so don't worry about it. However, for dayclubs, I would advise getting there before they open the doors. This way you can claim a spot to put your towels down around the edge of the pool. We never did VIP/table/cabana and everything worked out great because we were always a little early or right on time.
For EDC we purchased a third party shuttle service. The EDC shuttles lines always looked extremely long and I was advised not to take them. Our shuttle service was provided by Till Dawn Group. It was $50 for the entire weekend. I would recommend this group as a shuttle service. They are relatively new and not well established, but everything worked perfectly for us. Their buses weren't too nice, but they had ac, water and energy drinks. One nice thing was that the owner, Joe, would answer his phone anytime (literally anytime) you called. The first day is always chaotic because the traffic patterns and parking situations are not quite figured out so definitely leave early like 6 or 7. It took 1 hour and 40 minutes to get there Friday when we left at 8pm and only took 20 min when we left at 6pm on Saturday and Sunday. You should also try and leave the concert early if you don't care who the last few DJs are. Yes it is cool to stay till the sun rises, but man is traffic a mess getting out of there. We stayed till the end for 2/3 nights and it was always crowded leaving. Our shuttle service had several pick up times from 6pm-9pm and departures from 3:30am-7am. Buses try to make their times, but if it wasn't there they cycled so another one was always on the way. For shuttle services, make sure you consider where the pick-up and drop-off locations are in relation to your hotel. We stayed at the Flamingo and our pick-up spot was at the Cosmopolitan. We walked, but do not underestimate how long you will be walking for on the strip. It is deceiving. But, if you have to cab to and from the pickup locations, cabs should be only be approx $10 if it is relatively close.
The concert itself is insane. We never made it on any rides, but if you want to ride, make sure to get on early as the lines get super long later in the night. Make sure you read what is and is not permitted to be brought it. Cigs and lip balm must be sealed to bring in so get some for each day. A brief bag check and quick pat down at the door and your in. Earbuds are a must to prevent the sonic hangover. I suggest buying a pair like Downbeats from Amazon, the best $10 investment I ever made. They set up extra cell towers and provide free wifi, but neither seems to work. So if you are with a group make sure you set up specific meeting locations in case you get separated. The dome like stages can get really packed and impossible to navigate through once the headliner comes on. So if you want to see someone popular like Calvin Harris at the circuit grounds stage, make sure you go during the previous persons set to get a spot. Kinetic field, cosmic meadow, and the basspod stage are all open fields so we were always able to navigate through when our favorites were on. The water stations are in a couple places, familiarize yourself with these. They have people working the filling stations so it moves quickly. The outhouses are also set up well.
Overall EDC was amazing, we will be back! read more
