I had no idea festivals were on Yelp, so I guess I'll share some experiences from When We Were Young! I've been to this festival a few times, mostly when I actually lived in Las Vegas for the first two years of it. Arriving to the fairgrounds is pretty hectic as parking is expensive, the lines are kind of unorganized, and standing in the sun for 2 hours before the thing even starts kind of sucks, but that's pretty much going to happen at any festival so it is what it is. This festival offers 2 main stages, 2 medium side stages, and a smaller stage under a tent that's usually packed with 50% of people wanting to see who is playing and 50% of people wanting to hide from the Sin City sun. On top of the bands, the grounds themselves feature an insane amount of extremely overpriced food options (like every other festival), booths where you can buy stuff, a sensory room which I greatly appreciated, lots of free water, and for some reason ONE MERCH TENT.....what kind of insanely dumb idea was it to have 1 merch tent for this massive of a fest? If you actually want to buy something, you will literally spend hours just standing in line to buy one shirt because instead of giving each band a merch tent, it's one stupid line you are just stuck waiting it in. I waited in line the first year but decided against it the second since I was here for music and not t-shirts. The sound at most of the stages were solid enough, though some technical difficulties do happen, you can't blame the entire fest for that. Highlights from the years I went included great sets by Blink 182, My Chemical Romance, Glassjaw, A Day To Remember, Bayside, Thursday, Paramore, Green Day, and the list could go on and on and on. Overall, When We Were Young is both good and bad. The price of this fest for just one day ranged anywhere between like $400 to over $1000 and nothing is really worth that (even though I did agree to it multiple times). Obviously, it's hard to plan ahead when the music never stops so you and running back and fourth like it's the 2008 Vans Warped Tour, but regardless, I had a blast every time I came here and would still do it again and again in the future. At the end of the day, a fest is a fest and once you get passed the price gouging tickets with fees, overpriced food and drinks, and heat stroke you might suffer from, it's all for the love of the music. read more

When We Were Young - The gateway to 2004. - Festivals Near Me - Las Vegas, Nevada

Last October was my first year attending this event and getting there was an adventure in itself. First of all, it is best to use a taxi or public transit. Even then, there is a lot of bottlenecking on the roads. The entrance is also not super clear. Just as long as you are in the vicinity of Circus Circus and are following the mass of crowds, you will find it. Ticket scanning and bag checks were very quick with the dozens of stations they had. There was a welcoming strip that is adorned in bright pink carpet. There were various water stations and an abundance of food and drink on both sides, and two tents of merch. Food was in the mid-teens for price. Alcoholic beverages were about $20 each. Of course, that is not accounting for the base price of daily entry, which started about $500 for GA. Our group got there early afternoon. The stages were split into 3 different locations at the festival grounds, pink hosting the most prominent bands. It is impossible to see everyone so you must pick and choose what is important to you. We went to see Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Boys Like Girls, and Yellowcard first. There was a lot of room to stand and watch. And if you weren't close to the stage, there was a large screen on both sides amplifying the music. Overall, if you wanted to be up close and personal, it was essential to be early to a performance, especially near the end of the night. There was seldom any security to survey the crowd. The Knocked Loose crowd in particular was moshing so hard they were spilling their drinks and pushing everyone over. Anyways, for the last performances, we got to see a cameo from Sum 41 with Avril Lavigne. Blink 182 had the same energy they've displayed in their youth. And the cherry on top was Panic at the Disco. I kid you not Brandon put on a nearly 2 hour show. My feet were so sore and puffy, but it was worth it to see him thoroughly enjoying the limelight after a couple year break. At the end of the evening, staying the whole time also meant leaving with a ton of other people too. Prices for Uber were incredibly inflated. So save yourself some money and walk at least a few blocks toward your destination, if you can take it, before hitching another form of transit home. Would I go again? For sure, even though it's more expensive than a standard music festival. It is a pretty penny to do anything in Vegas, but the nostalgia and the fun you have enjoying it with people you love, makes it a worthy annual splurge. read more

We will always be forever young and grateful . Let's remember it with the music that we loved so much. When we attended the When We Were Young concert," we went V.I.P. Now maybe, the VIP is excellent, but is kind of over sold. One major reason to purchase the extra is for the all access to have access to the special bars and upgraded restrooms . You need to get here early for the front row. Or the rows even behind that . Now the front row seats in the VIP bar lounge would be great to watch the music, but this being our first year we did not have access. You need to order these seats before you get here. The use of a locker is highly recommended and make sure and purchase this in advance too. The concert grounds were a great experience. They offer lots of food options and different types of variety for certain diets. Make sure and bring your own water bottle this year was not as hot as years past, but hydration is imperative. Who would have known that 7-11 sponsored this event ? They offered free slushies too! Who remembers the classic coke and cherry slurpee ! All day long you are walking and walking some more and being entertained by the bands . It's epic a whole day of music. The music starts around 11 a.m. and ended around midnight . Your hopping and dancing all day long . Some of the greats were the Off Spring, Weezer, Motionless in White, Ice Nine Kills just to name a few.... Make sure and get an "adult happy meal too!" Go back to school and enjoy it this time. No uniform. No hope, but joy is coming. Let's get involved and visit the little places the festival has taken the time to make for us. Shall we cleanse our souls. Leave the darkness at the door, we are here to be renewed. The light shall come in and make us happy, if just for a moment. Let's get out and enjoy the release of a beautiful song that we have all lived . We can live it here for a brief moment. We all have disguises that we have to keep the darkness away . We had such an amazing time at the When We Were Young Festival!! My teen was dying to see Weezer, and my husband and I were nostalgic over ALL the musicians and talent! Experiencing some moshing, crowd surfing, (we chose that location-completely safe), amazing food, the grass areas were awesome to relax in, hydration stations on point! And music to die for!!!! If I knew then what I know now, I'd have built empires out of all that untapped opportunity. Step back with me, golden in-between era, analog to digital. We had cassette tapes winding with a pencil, VHS rewinds at Blockbuster, and streetlights as curfew alarms. It really was a different kind of peace. If we had today's knowledge, mindset, and the kind of access to information or opportunity that exists now, many of us from that time would be multi-millionaires or billionaires. The 90s and early 2000s were full of untouched potential, the internet was just being born, real estate was affordable, businesses weren't oversaturated, and attention wasn't scattered like it is now. read more

My WHEN WE WERE YOUNG 2024 Review: I went on Saturday last weekend and as someone who hasn't really ventured to the world of Music Festivals this was my first hands-on experience of what to expect. With bands from my teen angst years performing, I was looking forward to seeing the very same bands that I grew up from other medias, mainly Guitar Hero/Rock Band. I know that's kind of cheesy but it was a gateway to me at the time where I wasn't listening to whatever was playing on the radio but more on what felt more rebellious. After walking through the gates, I was set off to find and discover everything. There were five stages for different bands to perform at their own designated time slot and I had to coordinate before hand on who to see. I think in total I saw around 11-12 bands but with very small breaks in between sets. Being a music festival, prepare to feel overwhelmed with the mass crowds trying to do the same thing as you, but luckily it's only the first hour that gave me that feeling. Since I had GA+, there was a section that I'd frequent throughout the day for bathroom breaks/food/water, ect. Although there was many other things to do my mind was set focused on the main content, seeing the bands I wanted to see live. I snuck my way close enough to see the bands perform all while people having to shove or move me to get around. It was an interesting experience. There were also moments where I was just caught as the edge of a mosh pit for a certain band and it was thrilling. A lot tamer than what I have seen in videos online but it's cool to see it happen right in front of you. If there's anything I should note that could be a downside is band merch was so long that I could not risk waiting in line for hours for a t-shirt that I wouldn't wear much. Band memorabilia is cool to have but we're on a time limit on how many bands to see. There were many people sitting down during the bigger acts and it was a big safety hazard since people were constantly moving. Trash was bad; especially on the turf sections where I found myself stepping on many cans/bottles/ect. It was cleaner on the concrete sections of the venue though. Something I regret not bringing, it's definitely something to store water in. I purposely bought a drink to get a plastic cup to re-use for water. The weather in Vegas is no joke and I'd definitely advise wearing sunscreen and a hat if you're going to marathon all the bands. A battery charger goes a long way too, I know that's obvious but I forgot to pack it before my initial flight. Would I recommend When We Were Young? Absolutely! It's great to see bands perform live and meet people that have the same passion that you have. I had a really great time despite only going for one day. Although pricey, it's a memory I won't forgot, especially with the videos I recorded. The Good: - GA+ Section: Air conditioned bathrooms, seperate food section - Plenty of Food options ( there were vegan options too ) - Pop-up Kiosk Locations ( Ghost Energy had a basketball arcade game section and that was cool/gave out free energy samples ) - Bands performed really well live - You can leave and come back without any issues - Rotating stages ( the coolest thing I've seen, made the next band ready to perform without delays ) - Map was well designed - Friendly people - Staff kept bathrooms cleaned in non GA+/VIP Sections, cleaned up as much as they could on non turf areas The Bad: - Not every band played the album entirely, or some songs were cut short for the run time ( I'm okay with this but maybe others find it misleading ) - People sitting down near the front during concerts ( Safety Hazard, plus most people are wearing black clothing so it's hard to see ) - Lots of littering towards the end of the night ( mainly around the Purple/Pink stage where I was because the headliners performed there) - There is no reception ( texting in a group was more effective ) - Merch lines were incredibly long. Four stages and so many bands played. The performances and bands were all amazing. The main issues are (1) the costs and (2) the crowds. The costs are astronomical. The ticket prices FOR ONE DAY cost much more than any other comparable music festival. Food and drinks are the same. Almost $25 for one cocktail with a measured out shot is ridiculous. The crowds were insane and it likely wasn't safe given how many people were there. I heard from several fellow concert-goers and employees that the VIP and GA+ we're both way oversold and overcrowded. Not cool. Was it worth going? I'm glad I went this once, but never again unless they make severe changes. read more

It was our first time attending WWWY and were pretty hyped about the line up. Overall it was good, but it definitely could have been better. Green Day and Rise against had the best sets of the 6 we wanted to see. Loved how many surprise guests appeared throughout the day. It was a fun way to break it up and add excitement. The good: Ability to leave and re-enter. Free water at the entrance/exit. Designated (but completely packed) seating areas within earshot of the main stages. Cleanliness of the grounds. The less ideal: Layout was chaotic and didn't have a clear flow. Merch tent lines were so long only to discover that most of the merch was sold out. The alcohol selection was terrible and only offered (very) bottom shelf liquor. Joke was on me when I paid for "premium" only to be upgraded from rubbing alcohol to Popov. The drinks were so bad none of us had more than 1 drink and I still wince thinking of it weeks later. The food was not any better than the bar. The selections were underwhelming compared to other festivals. We paid $15 for raw noodles in a Tapatio ramen bowl. Sadly, it was the best option on all of the food offerings. Overall, we are on the fence if we will go next year. It was fun but I didn't enjoy it as much as other festivals. read more

Sooooo I have been to multiple festivals. I was NOT ready for this one. So many people. Impacted the traffic on Las Vegas Blvd sooo much worse than I could have imagined- avoid it. We parked at a nearby hotel and took the monorail in...as encouraged by the website. Horrible idea! Next time I'll opt for the closer parking for $50! (Parking ended up being $35 at said hotel- that was not exciting. Monorail was $22.50 for 2 -24 hour passes with a BoGO 50% coupon (that's to myvegas app) We (my hubby and I) attempted to utilize the ADA services. It felt like more of a suggestion/idea. Spaces were indeed limited. There was the one small riser area in between the main stages & that was pretty much it. There was a line...that was behind the stage- so vision was limited. Sound =excellent. We gave up on the line and sat in front of the ADA area on the ground- got to listen to great music and look at butts. Not what I was expecting. Myself, having a knee injury, this was WAY more walking than expected. Even while seeking out the ADA supports. The security flagged my husband despite him telling them he has metal in his body. Another security officer got involved, apologizing perfusely. Soooo many people. We went Sunday and actually had to leave early because the physical limitations proved to be too much. People run into other people without reason, all good normally- with injuries currently healing- very scary. Food lines went quick. Merch lines did not. I'm not sure about coming again in the future. I think I would opt for individual shows with the artists of choice. read more

We flew in from out of state for this festival. We were supremely disappointed. We paid $1390 for two VIP tickets and learned, once we arrived, that they oversold VIP so much that it seemed like there were more people in VIP than in the general admission area. We were so far back from the stage that we couldn't even see it. So poorly executed. We've attended what has to be more than 50 festivals, and this was hands down the worst. The line-up was amazing, but it wasn't enough to overcome the logistical nightmare. Will never be back. read more

My first time attending, When We Were Young, in Las Vegas. The lineup absolutely spoke to me, WOW! It's a little pricey at $360/ticket, but you can get different deals depending on what level experience you buy into. The venue has positive and negative aspects: POSITIVE: Amazing bands!! Plenty of food/bar options (lines were not bad) Friendly concert goers They do their best to make plenty of shade For a giant venue, the sound was good, especially on the Pink & Green stages Plenty of pop-up kiosk locations and interesting things to see NEGATIVE: It can get HOT (hydrate, bring SPF, sunglasses and a hat) They do their best to make plenty of shade (could always be more!) Seemed like they oversold the event (very crowded) Ghost & Stripe stages were too close to one another, sound challenges! It took over an hour to get in, standing in the blazing heat! Good luck catching a cab/taxi after you leave, I walked (5+ miles). UGH I've been to several festivals, generally speaking this one was a solid 'B+' I really enjoyed the lineup, they assembled some epic 90s rockers. Just make sure you are ready for the heat and book a hotel near the concert venue. Last thought, an absolute highlight was seeing 30 Seconds to Mars - This Is War (Feat. I went on Sunday, they have the same festival and lineup two consecutive days. I've attended this in the past and it is always fun. They seem to make small improvements every year. The line to get in was annoyingly long, but shorter than the year before. Getting home is also difficult as thousands of people want a Cab or Uber. Smartest thing to do, plan to take the monorail or find lodging close to the venue. The lineup this year was full of my favorites. My top 5 included: Blink - 182 Green Day The Offspring Good Charlotte Plain White T's/The Veronicas Be prepared for a lot of sun, bring all the standard gear to protect yourself, and make sure you dress like your inner rocker. Most importantly, hydrate, I saw several people pass out. I felt a little claustrophobic because they tend to pack everyone in. If you like the lineup on any given year, this is a fun festival. read more

Absolutely amazing experience!!! All the best bands from my high school years in an all day lineup. The grounds were great too. Real bathrooms!!!! No need to use a nasty portable bathroom. The cleaning staff worked so hard the entire day to keep them clean and stocked. They also made sure to keep us all hydrated with free water throughout the festival. I took advantage of the locker rental so I had somewhere to stash my merch and sunscreen. Overall I had no complaints and I'd definitely go again read more

Every time I believe my festival days are done, I find myself at one of these events, having a great time. It was such a great experience, seeing the bands I loved in my youth and I appreciate the opportunity to do that but here's the thing... the name of the festival kind of gives it away. The number of folks complaining about back and knee pain is alarming lol. The initial process of getting in to the festival is so unorganized and takes way too long. To me, it seemed like the event was oversold and was way too crowded. Food options were plentiful but not streamlined well. And everything was on the pricy side. However I'm not going below 3 stars because the quality of entertainment was second to none! read more
