An assortment of brownie bits, cookies, cheese and cracker platters, lots of roasted almonds, and even a surprise Birthday Cake were available to feast on! And along with a tended bar of wines, waters and sodas. A wonderful jazz trio played in the background, and, above head height, there were cartoons being projected on the wall. Saw people we knew, and met friends we didn't know, until we met them. And it was nice to be out and about, (it's been a while) The staff was great, going the extra mile to get a chair for a senior holding a cane. We'll be back!

I would say that one of the employees recently had a bit of an arrogant attitude and talked down to me when I was in the bookstore after one of Brendan's recent workshops. She may want to work on that, particularly when she's talking about the poetry of my close friends and former classmates from my MFA program. You never know who someone may know. That aside, I highly recommend Beyond Baroque as I have been coming here for decades and it truly is a wonderful place for creative writers.

It tells potential students to reach out to the instructor before taking a class. The purpose of a website / marketing is to make it easier for the consumer to do business with you. No other studios do this. I just showed up for the first class and luckily saw another student who showed me where the entrance is. I've seen others do the same. Coco is warm and welcoming. Mark is off-putting and rude to most newcomers. It also lacks all basic information and policies you expect to see on a dance studio website - there is no bathroom, dressing rooms etc. There are no class policies, payment information, prices, anti-harassment policies, processes for how to report incidents. Customers are treated differently - I've seen some told to use the owner's bathroom in her home while others told to go across the street to the park. Communications are poor and myself and other students have driven a long way to attend class only to find out class was cancelled. Be prepared for mixed messages. I had been going there 4-5 times a week for a year and received nothing but positive feedback. I always felt welcome there. Out of the blue I received the nastiest, rudest, most threatening email from the owner I've ever received. For months she wouldn't give me a reason and refused to have a conversation about it like any reasonable person / business owner would have done in her position. It was insulting, rude and unnecessary. Not to mention completely passive aggressive. If there were a problem, wouldn't you pull them aside after class to chat or set-up time for a discussion? No, straight to threats. Please note: Coco is one of the best teachers I've ever studied with and this review/rating no way reflects on her. She is professional, communicates well, is patient and creates a true no judgement environment to learn in. She is also one of the best sources of information on tap. She truly wants to see her students grow. And she offers a true intro to tap class for adults which is difficult to find in any style of dance. I have not had the opportunity to study with Joseph or Lynn but have heard only good things.

I went to the Ruskin Group Theatre to see a play called "Grangeville," written by Samuel D. Hunter,…read moredirected by John Perrin Flynn, and starring Tim Cummings and Jeff LeBeau, the show's only two performers. I'd heard great things about this play, both from a friend and from the L.A. Times, and was excited when it extended its run long enough for me to catch it. After a few of these extensions, the run is coming to an end on September 21. If you have any interest in theater, I'd urge you to go see it while you can. It's an amazing show, absolutely top tier, and the tickets are only $45. I got three tickets for a Sunday afternoon performance, and since the theater was small and the tickets all the same price, I put us in the middle of the first row. We arrived a few minutes ahead, which gave us just enough time to buy bottled water before going in. The theater had around 60 seats across four rows, and I imagine all of them were pretty great. My husband and friend were a little worried about being front and center, but the seats were fantastic. It was an incredibly intimate theater experience, especially with just those two actors owning the stage. I loved everything about this production, only the second staging of "Grangeville," after its off-Broadway premiere last year. It was on par with the very best shows I've seen at the bigger theaters around town, and much better than the average. Incredible talent in every department. I'd never heard of the Ruskin Group Theater before, but now I'll pay attention to whatever comes through. Not every show can be this good, but it's clearly a theater that can attract serious players.

My friend offered to drive, since she has a newer car.. Well, a friend of mine and I decided to go see her live last night and we are both glad that we did! She was FANTASTIC! Can't comment about the food, because we had both eaten before we went. However, we both got drinks. I got a small Espresso Martini(made to perfection)! She got a beer and we both got 2 bottled waters and Sprite. We were sitting not too far away from the stage and the sound of the microphone and overall the system was great! No complaints. They hold many different events from comedy to concerts. You can even dance. They have a decent dance floor, and the venue itself was fairly large, with bar tables and chairs. It was somewhat crowded, but we were not bothered with that. Customer service hit the mark. Tickets were $41.00 & up. Venue was nice, clean, including restrooms and we parked outside on the street. I believe they also have their own parking.One other thing that I should mention, it gives you that old school vibe that I love. The Playhouse is located in a great area in Santa Monica and there are a lot of eateries and places to walk. The 3rfd St. Promenade is just a block away. Parking is easy in the public parking lot right across the street, it is for a small fee. All of the kid's plays are great and our grandson has not missed one yet. They also do holiday themed plays. The prices are great, this is one of the last places you can take a kid and not spend more than 18$ a ticket and often less. The staff is the nicest. It is not for profit and the entire staff and actors work for free. They also have Birthday parties. The place is small and adorable you will love it.

This is a not for profit and it has professional actors, kids and armatures. It is small and there is not a bad seat in the house. Most of the staff are volunteers so be nice. You can order from their website. It has a great selection of plays, from kids plays (called the YES program) to musicals and some very serious plays. We have been so many times and have never seen a bad play and if you have a kid, it is a must you take them there. The prices are so fair and they a little snack bar inside. There is nothing not to like about this theater. It has nice places to eat nearby and it is a great area.

Since BroadStage programming is so eclectic, though, some of it just isn't of interest to me. Different strokes....

Choose wisely what you come for. If your intuition tells you this artist was maybe brought in simply on connections and what community they're a part of then listen to your gut. I say all of this because there are so many deserving and talented productions out there that deserve and would love the privilege of being paid to perform here but to see the opportunities squandered on the same old stories and inner circle artists is enough for me to think long and hard before buying tickets to this theatre again.
