This is a very sharp looking bar/restaurant located technically on Sunset Boulevard, but if you blink, you may miss it. It is tucked just off of Sunset and, sadly, it is easy to miss. I have probably driven by it a hundred times or more without seeing it. Thankfully, I know where it is now and, even better, they have a few dedicated parking spaces behind the restaurant, but good luck with the extremely finicky pay machine. Who knew that "electric owls" were nighttime train conductors? Well, now you know. The train theme is carried through the decor of the restaurant and apparently, this is the site of an old train station. My Sunset Sour was a very nice whiskey sour. They have six nonalcoholic cocktail (mocktail) options, which was impressive. The Grill Daddy Burger (with bacon, cheese, BBQ sauce, and more) was very nice. They were offering fries with crab during our visit and they sounded decadent. Under other circumstances, we would have tried them but couldn't do so this time around. You can hang at the bar, on the outside bar patio, or inside the very cool-looking interior restaurant area. Think 1920s decor, literally 100 years ago, but still awesome today. Do yourself a favor and hit this place up. It's located in a cool, historic rail car station and has quickly become one of my favorite spots in town. You have to try the Tequila Tang it's one of the best cocktails around (and with turmeric and carrot juice, I'm convinced it's basically a health drink). The hibiscus margarita is also amazing. Food wise, the happy hour burger is awesome. Their burgers are seriously underrated and consistently great. New favorite place in the Hollywood area. First off, the design is so very, very cool. I couldn't quite place it, steampunk Victorian? Turns out it is retro train car and I love it. The happy hour menu is one of the best I've seen in a looooong time. 4-6 and even on a Saturday. Go, go, go. Service--great, friendly, helpful. We showed up at 5ish on a Friday for the first time and had no idea they had an amazing happy hour so of course it was crowded. There was also an 11 year old birthday in the main restaurant so that was full up. They put us on a wait list and texted when the table came up, not 10 minutes later. Yay! Came back again on a Saturday for drinks at the bar and then dinner in the restaurant. Split the chicken basket with a friend and it was delicious. Wine was yummy. The hibiscus margarita was interesting, but a little too sweet for me. The orange tang margarita with carrots and orange was a little too much like a tang drink for me. I love how low key this place is, and I'm almost hesitant to share because undoubtedly I can always walk in have a seat at the bar and have prompt service. Came in on a whim on a Sunday afternoon and was pleasantly surprised there was happy hour! However, one off putting thing right away is that not too long after getting seated at our table, someone came up to us and commanded me to take my water bottle off the table. This dampened the experience from that point on especially when I saw that a woman at another table had a water bottle on her table and was not told the same thing. Was in my old neighborhood and decided to stop in for a quick bite. We had no idea what we were getting ourselves into but what a lovely little find. Waits staff was super sweet. Good drinks, well-mixed and priced. And killer burgers. My wife got the Smash Burger and I got the Grill Daddy. Both solid and delicious. And like the drinks, both were fairly priced. Oh, and the fries were cooked and salted to perfection. The train car ambiance makes you forget you are in a small restaurant on the corner of Sunset. We went to the Electric Owl a little while ago, just after Ozzy had passed. They had an Ozzy tribute playing the entire time we were there. But this is about food, service, and ambiance, not Ozzy. There is parking on site, paid parking, but there is parking right at the restaurant. We lucked out and found street parking very close. The décor is really well thought out and maybe even classy. The train coach feeling is real and well done. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and checks in the right amount of the time. Water glasses kept being refilled, the waiter checked in several times, even to make sure it was not too loud. It was not. It was Ozzy! We got the Dynamite Krab fries. Oh, these are good. Good size cuts on the French fries, not too small so everything falls off, not so large that all you seem to get is potato. Great flavors and texture. And a good amount of food on the plate. We also got the L.A. Smash as well as the Grill Daddy Burger. The Grill Daddy Burger was cooked to a good medium, still juicy, not undercooked, just right. And the bun and toppings were a great match. The bun didn't fall apart too fast, not too many toppings, but still a handful. And the flavors, so good. It works well. The L.A. Smash was good as well. Good size, great flavor, not overwhelming. The folks there all seemed to be enjoying themselves. We arrived early, but the place was filling up when we were leaving. What happened here? I used to come here often 2019-2022. Yesterday my friend and I walked in and stood at the bar. The bartender said, "do you have a table?" We said no, he was like "you can't stand at the bar" we asked if we could order a drink and he said no... so we walked out. What kind of business turns away customers for no reason? We have been coming here fairly regularly for almost two years and sadly it has been going progressively (and recently, aggressively) downhill. The food quality has gotten worse and menu items are never consistent - prices, portions, quality...you never know what you'll get. The owners are clearly trying to cut corners - it shows. From the quality of the food, to the fact that, for example, they now dole out ketchup for the fries in cheap little plastic thimble sized cups, fewer menu items, and so on. They used to have a great happy hour and happy hour menu, but the selection has gone down while prices go (way) up, and what used to be 4-7pm got gradually cut back to 3-5pm, then recently cut to literally only one hour (4-5pm) only 3 days of the week! (wed - fri ). It makes what used to be a great little neighborhood joint something people now clearly avoid. It is consistently less busy. While the ambiance is nothing to write home about, I will say the service is generally quite good. We had been coming back habitually as it was a great little neighborhood spot, but have started ruling it out completely. Well, what can I say? It's always about the service, not the atmosphere or the food. I've been wanting to try this place for a while because I know the chef works with him at Unami Burgers. So, I was waiting for the hostess when she finally showed up. Apparently, there were no tables available, but when I looked at the dining area, all the tables were open. I said, "Okay, I'll wait 20 minutes." I didn't want to sit at the bar, and I asked her why I needed to wait when the dining area was open and there was only one table occupied. There is a city-owned metered row of parking spots in the alley next to the restaurant that is full often. Venue 4: Nice modern, upscale and inviting exterior and dining area made out of train cars. Also, some outdoor seating and a large bar area. Service 5: Our server was excellent. He was polite, friendly, attentive and helpful. Food 5: Wonderful selection of appetizers, sandwiches, entrees and desserts. We had the Hot Honey Pepperoni Pizza, The Burger, Spicy Vodka Shrimp Rig and the Pomodoro and Burrata Pasta. All were super good! Unfortunately, we had no room left to try any of the desserts, but the list looked good! Hopefully next time. Drinks 5: Great list of specialty cocktails, beer and wine. We only tried the wine this time, which was quite good. Next time will be trying the specialty cocktails! The Last Word 5: Excellent food, drinks and service! I think they forgot about us, so when I asked, they took care of it. ... by the way me and my 3 friends were sitting at the bar. Pretty hard to miss. We ordered hamburgers. No napkins, silverware, or condiments. When I asked for catchup the bartender walked away. He purposely washed dishes to ignore us before he casual dropped off the catchup 7mins later when I was halfway done with the dry hamburger. The bartender was so rude that we eventually moved to a bar table. This place had the worst staff I've ever run across. The bartender obviously doesn't want to be there. My friend that I was with has millions of Instagram followers and does local restaurant reviews, he was in shock! What I don't care for is this restaurant is it changes it's hours as well as menu and prices what feels like twice a month. It's such a great spot. Super cute spot and great vibes here! I last went a couple years ago for Happy Hour and I remember drinks were cheap and yummy plus they had a bunch of gluten free options. I went back with high expectations and the food was yummy but there were limited options for gluten allergies. Our waiter was super helpful though; it was just unfortunate some gluten free items were cross contaminated in a fryer (like the brussels sprouts) so I couldn't get them! I got the L.A. Smash Burger and the House Salad. My friends and I arrived on a Friday evening around 7PM. There was no wait time and we were seated rather quickly. We came to try the espresso martini with the ice cream and it did not disappoint. We were not wowed by the food. We ordered a pizza, the spicy vodka pasta, and the caramelized brussels sprouts. The brussels sprouts were the best dish and the rest of the food was mediocre. I loved this place pre-pandemic. I was not only a regular; we used to joke about how my name should be on a chair. The Owl is for locals...or at least it used to be! During the pandemic, we kept coming amidst surge pricing and down-sized items (at the same bloody prices), but we supported every closing & reopening of the Owl. Then, EVERYTHING ABOUT THE OWL CHANGED. They reopened the restaurant & didn't invite any of the locals to the soft launch. The menu got smaller. The food got smaller. The quality of the food went down. The prices went up. They laid off the staff we adored & hired snobby managers. The drinks went on tap (yuck!) & the costs SKYROCKETED (from $4.20 to $16 for cocktails- are you ffr?!?). Dogs are no longer allowed inside. More importantly, the bar rules have changed-you can no longer stand and order; they require you to have an actual seat. Yes, an actual seat. AT A BAR. Raise your hand if you want to lose business! All in, the Owl's heyday is over. No longer does "everybody know your name." No longer is the Tequila Tang being made by scratch (fwiw they screwed over the bartender who created it & now it's made with a mix). No longer is happy hour, happy. Did I mention they also delete IG comments inquiring about the prices of items they post?! Don't even get me started on the manager(s)-I walked out of the bathroom with a v*pe in hand and got barked at. They are anti-smoking of EVERYTHING, even OUTSIDE-what a departure from the beloved 4/20 days the Owl used to be beloved & known for! Yes, PLEASE! That is my reaction if anyone suggests Electric Owl to me in the future for happy hour. Electric Owl is down Sunset Blvd. from where we live, and its patio area and happy hour seemed pretty nice, so we decided to give it a try. I absolutely loved everything about it! It was pretty easy to get a reservation around 6pm on a Friday, the happy hour is a good length and goes until 7pm during the week. It was already quite crowded both inside and on the patio spaces, and continued to get increasingly crowded while we were there. Nevertheless, we were quickly seated on the outdoor patio in the back of the restaurant, as requested. The service throughout our visit was very quick and friendly, with our cocktail drinks coming very shortly after ordering them. Those cocktail drinks were delicious and definitely STRONG, by the way! I loved them! The happy hour deals were pretty good and we loved both the wagyu burger and the hot chicken sandwich that are available for the happy hour menu. For the wagyu burger, it simply melts in your mouth and was cooked perfectly. The chicken sandwich was crunchy, crispy, and definitely a bit spicy, with a delicious sauce drenching the very generously-sized piece of chicken in it. Chef's kiss!! The atmosphere was wonderful as well - the patio in the back that we were seated at was very tranquil and beautiful with plant-life shielding the outside world and making you feel very far removed from it all. The inside was also cool, with a unique bathroom area that had historic photos of the old Los Angeles street cars that used to criss-cross the street here. All around, a stellar happy hour experience. The deals were pretty good and the food and drinks all absolutely delicious. I wouldn't mind dining here at a regular time for lunch or dinner either. Single occupant restrooms are on the righthand side of the bar. They do have happy hour. Service was very amiable. Food-wise, the portions are on the smaller side, but they are tasty. Note that if you get the spicy shrimp, it's not spicy and the shell is on, so peel it off before eating. The burger is pretty unadorned and is a typical burger. The mac and cheese had rigatoni pasta with a Panko crust, and I particularly liked that dish. I also liked the beet salad, as it had some truffle oil and goat cheese. The bacon wrapped dates came in 4 and come stuffed with cheese; solid option for those who want a salty and sweet combo. read more

one of my favorite places to go to, love taking my friends here. the food is made with the utmost attention to detail to flavor and quality ingredients. the atmosphere is very "chill" with moody lighting and plants swathing the area. it feels as if you've left sunset blvd and you're now in electric owl world or whatever lol. first time i came here, i split a hot honey pepperoni pizza with friends and it was so delicious. the pepperoni was juicy yet crisp on the edges, curling up into little flavorful cups. got the chicken sandwich last night and WOW. the chicken was perfectly breaded/seasoned in between two soft, fresh brioche buns and dressed with a housemade cucumber ranch. we also got an order of ranch fries with a housemade ranch (you could really taste the fresh herbs in there) and it was so creamyyyy and the fries were seasoned well and had a great texture. my friend had the burger and he loved it. excited to try more of the food here, especially the happy hour menu which seems to be a good deal. onto drinks, the espresso martini is yum. real frothy on top. the sunset sour is a good whiskey based drink and the hibiscus marg is aight lol. read more

I am gonna preface with saying that I broke my foot earlier this year and I need to walk around the neighborhood to strengthen it. I stopped by electric owl to grab some food on the way home, and I was sitting there relaxing trying to rest my foot because it started to become sore from walking. After I got my to go order bartender started making suggestive remarks that I leave already as I was apparently sitting there too long, and overall asked me to vacate before I was able to rest my foot enough to continue walking home. Is this how this establishments treats its patrons especially who are hurt? I even left a tip for when I took food to go but I guess bartender didn't want to have an eye sore at their bar? Did I not come looking like a typical West Hollywood denizen? Maybe this place only serves good looking dressed up healthy people who are getting drinks? Got their house made "white claw" cocktails and they were...not good. My sister's drink tasted so bad, she had to ask the waiter if there was a mistake or if this was how they generally tasted. The tater tots were so so salty as well. The sauce it came with was really good tho. Definitely evened out the saltiness in the tots but there needed to be waaay more sauce to balance it all out. I really want to give this place another shot because I didn't actually have dinner or "real" drinks there and the vibes were so cute! Finally found out for myself what the hype is all about. I'm just a block away from here and have passed it numerous times on my way to dine at my favorite bar across the street. My friend who happens to live just steps away from here told me how much she loved the burger on her visit that we decided to randomly go in the middle of the day on a Thursday. Why not? It was fairly quiet when we got there so were able to pick a table. I let my friend take the wheel and order for all 3 of us. We shared an order of the burger, tots, salad and pasta. That burger was wow. I regretted sharing half of mine. It would've been much better had I eaten the whole thing bya know? I loved my first visit so much I ended up coming back the next day with another friend. We went right after work so it was far busier. It was so crowded we ended up sharing our table with another party. If you care about social distancing, this place ain't it. This time around, I decided to get the burger/tot combo. The burger was just as good as the previous day, if not better. My only issue with the tots is that it's saltier than normal, but the crisp factor sorta made up for it.
