I was an irritable customer in search of a good power bank together with the right charger and the right cables. I'd had bad luck with another store (which shall be nameless) and wanted to be 100% sure I was getting exactly the right equipment. He gave me his undivided attention for at least 10 minutes and we picked out precisely what I needed. He also saved me £23 on the deal to boot! Give that man a raise someone.

The selection of drinks and to-go stuff is okay they even sold a flavour of Iced Tea, the Lipton Green tea with mint which I've only ever seen in the Netherlands and in London St Pancras' WHSmith which is located virtually across the way from here, it's a little pricey with a lack of multi-buy offers or meal deals which other WHSmith stores used to offer, it's a real shame they've continued these offers as it made the prices slightly affordable. At the end of the day most retailers outside of locations can offer two drinks for £1.80 - £2, here they expect you to pay that for one bottled drink! The checkout area was a little messy, with only one manned desk and the staff seemed unhelpful. One of the better places to get essentials ahead of a journey ahead of Kings Cross, it is probably better for drinks while Little Waitrose across the way is better for food and snacks, WHSmith is a common brand one would find in a railway station and it pretty much is an average store let down by pricing and the checkout area, but still with a good enough choice and overall feel to not warrant such a low rating. 3*

It's a true general store, like Woolworths should have been. This branch is inside a shopping centre, so after stocking up on cleaning supplies, you can swing by Top Shop for a frock or WH Smith for a DVD.

I was happy to see that this location has a sampling bar, and I was excited to try two of the holiday blends. It was busy when I visited, so I had to wait about 10 minutes or so to get a shot of espresso. The employees were very friendly, and seemed relieved that I was kind in return (seriously, they even have signs posted around that basically say "don't be a jerk to the workers here"). I don't know about you, but I'm never going to complain about getting a free shot of espresso! They don't have a lot of sweetener options, but they WILL give you a splash of milk or oatmilk in your coffee. I enjoyed my espresso shot and bought a couple of sleeves. They also had a nice display of all the newest Nespresso machines, which are always fun to browse. This is a nice place to stop in if you'd like to try a Nespresso coffee free of charge!

I have decided that Muji has just become my favourite store of the moment. Lately I have been getting excited about the weather stations, the solar chargers, the clever international multi-adapters, the shower radios, the city pop-up cards, the wall-mounted CD players, the wind-up walkie talkies, the fair trade cotton sheets and so much more. I will admit that I have recently been suffering from a huge obsession with anything even remotely Japanese and this has obviously played a huge part in my love affair with Muji - but it's just so clever I doubt many people could resist. Muji will definitely be one of my top shopping destinations for Christmas gifts this year.

My point is that there seems to very little sense of direction in Muji, as you can tell from the somewhat blasé customers it seems to attract. It's too small to accommodate the higher-class department store shtick (that torch obviously being held by places like Fenwicks... etc). But also many "American" brands. See their website for all they sell. Atmosphere - Open 7 days a week from 10am to 8pm and on Sundays from 11:30am to 6pm. Good size department store, almost like a maze...? Not sure if it is due to an older building or done intentionally to make you walk the entire store (think Ikea). Or it could have just been me since they have a bar here and I got confused/lost my sense of direction... Service - Okay. I am always in favor of businesses with bars. My wife shops and I drink. And she can bring her bags to me to watch so she doesn't have to carry them; win/win! Price - 4 to 7 pounds a beer at the bar; reasonably priced for an upscale department store. So we had a baby equipment delivery service/vendor lined up to have a far seat delivered to our hotel. Closer to our date, they informed me they were fully booked so that left us without any other option but to buy a car seat. I wasn't about to spend £££ on a luxury car seat (which is all we were finding in London) for one day use so I started googling and came across Argos. I browsed their site and saw the car seat that met our specifications which ended up being the same price as it would have been to rent from the vendor plus their delivery/pickup fees. We hate being THAT customer but we arrived 15 minutes before closing on the night before our planned day trip and we were able to purchase the car seat right then and there on their systems. Then walked a few steps over to their counter where they brought it over. We were in an out in 10 minutes. Service was fine although I realize a clueless customer rushing in so close to the end of your day might be slightly irritating. After use, we listed the car seat on Craigslist to anyone who wanted to pick up from us at our hotel lobby free of charge which worked out great since we didn't need to schlep the car seat to a local charity shop.
