If you want a fancy, pamper yourselves experience, this is your place. Book well in advance, and have an amazing afternoon tea with your besties here. Expensive? Yes - afternoon tea is 86 pounds a person to start. You get a lovely 3 tiered scrumptious afternoon tea - we did the high tea and the beef Wellington was wonderful. The scones either fresh clotted cream and a jam that you also get to take home were delish. Afterward, there are 4 floors for fancy shopping to do - the biscuitarium is so much fun, especially the musical Cooke tins
While walkng along Piccadilly, I chanced upon this 18th-century department store known for its gourmet groceries including a wide selection of "high-quality" teas, posh preserves, biscuits, chocolates, and gourmet food items. The multilevel interiors are classy and whimsical, displays are beautiful, decorations festive, and the atmosphere is lively with a lot of shoppers intermingled with all the vibrant colors. My senses were too overwhelmed and overloaded with all the bright colors meant o excite and entice one to buy that I limited myself to 2 floors and didn't go further up to explore their tea room, etc. Packaging is eye-catching and colorful but the biscuits just taste average. Staff are professional, friendly, and helpful.
When in London, afternoon tea is a must. I booked a reservation with Fortnum & Mason a few months in advance but when we arrived on a Sunday at 12:30PM, there seemed to be plenty of open tables available. A live pianist played in the front entrance. Staff were kind and proper. They offered to hang our coats in the closet. Afternoon Tea came with refillable teas, sandwiches, scones, and desserts. A Savory Afternoon Tea was an option as well, which doesn't have any sweets. I enjoyed all of the sandwiches. Everything was equally delicious, except the Cucumber and Lemon Mint. The Suffolk Ham with English Mustard had a nice kick. The Egg Mayonnaise was a classic for me. The Coronation Chicken was a mini chicken salad in a sandwich. The Kames Bay Trout with dill Cream Cheese is a great combination. I'm not a huge scone person, but the savory scones were very good. The Fortnum Strawberry Preserve was our favorite. For the desserts, my favorite was the Dark Chocolate with Hazelnut Praline. The Hazelnut Praline cookie bottom was airy and crisp. The chocolate inside was a light mousse. All of the desserts were extremely fragrant. The Rose Eclair and Orange Mousse played no games. I also liked the Treacle Tart because of its nutty flavor. I was incredibly full that I couldn't finish the Coconut Loaf, which was my least favorite. For the price of £85 per person, it was well worth the experience and the quality of the food and the service. Treat yourself!
If your looking a for a gift, look no further. Also it's a London experience you have to check out at least once. A similar concept to Harold's minus all the designer shops and apparel. They do offer a floor with shopping and some apparel and gifts but nothing compared to Harold's. The shop is about 4 levels. Different levels offer pretty much different things. The main floor right when you walk in from the streets had loads of gifts items and a sweets counter right in the middle. They're known for their hampers but besides that, they also have a food hall. Amazing baked goods, fresh pastries, a produce section, an exquisite cheese and meat section. Not to mention the wine department. Just walking through and checking everything out was an experience on its own. Going to the top area is where the hamper department is. They have premade hampers on hand but if you're looking to create your own, that can also be arrange. But if you're looking to experience afternoon tea, there's a room that offers that as well. A London experience that's worth it. Depending on what you're looking for, they pretty much have it. Gifts of all sorts from apparels, to wine, candies, accessories, baked goods, canned goods. They have a wide selections of items. A perfect hostess gift central.
This was not just food. This was not just an experience of a lifetime. This was pure, unadulterated immersion into the British Culture. The food here was fantastic and nothing I had experienced before. I'm obviously not one who partakes in Tea Parties all that often. But holy cow did this blow me away. The ambiance was upscale. You felt like a royal family while dining and eating the queen's favorite finger foods. The service was unfortunately subpar. But the whole experience is one of the few that can overshadow that fact. It's expensive. But well worth the price of admission.
I did not get a chance to try their afternoon tea, but I did make it a point to buy some items while visiting. The store is fairly sized, but you wouldn't know it with everyone milling about shopping. The upper floors aren't as packed, but the main attractions are at ground level and below. If you need any assistance, there's usually a Fortnum's employee out restocking, so you won't be hard pressed to find someone to ask a question. I know I took pictures of all the goodies in the display cases, but I didn't buy anything from there. I know I should have, but it's not like I left empty handed. Items I bought: baked focaccia, aged cheddar wheel, tea (Victoria Grey, Rwanda orange pekoe), jam/preserves (plum, cherry), biscuits (cherry almond, pistachio clotted cream, and classic shortbread), blueberries, and Christmas pudding. Everything I bought was enjoyed by my family, with the exception of the Christmas pudding. We'll be eating that soon! The focaccia was really good. It was a bit chewy and crunchy, but the inside was super soft and paired well with the cheddar (nice and sharp) we bought. The loose leaf teas are very fragrant and the Victoria Grey was surprisingly floral scented. Our favorite biscuit was the cherry almond. This biscuit is labeled gluten free and vegan, but don't let those things deter you from trying it. I love all things cherry almond and this was really good. It's not a soft chewy 'cookie,' it's crunchy and reminiscent of an oatmeal cookie. I bought the blueberries because they were pretty big and looked tasty. The price wasn't too far off from what I'd pay in the U.S. So far, the only thing I didn't need to buy was the classic shortbread. I think Walker's is just as good and I can buy them locally. Overall, I really loved shopping at Fortnum's despite the hundreds of people shopping there at the same time. It's definitely sensory overload here, but I would shop here again in a heartbeat.
Fortnum & Mason is a cute upscale department store that seems to have all of your home shopping needs or gifting needs in one place. They are located in the Piccadilly area and easily assessable off the Piccadilly line, exiting Piccadilly Circus and less than 10 minutes walk over. My sweet boyfriend bought me a very nice assortment of tea set here, in which I still keep the tea boxes for. This time he brought me back to visit the store for myself. The following are the description at the time of my visit and subject to change: Lower Ground Floor - Food Hall & Food To Go Ground Floor - Sweetland of Teas, Coffees, Jams, Chocolates, and more First Floor - Christmas Foods Second - Fragrance & Beauty Third Floor - Christmas Shop - Wrapping and Décor, and Bookshop Fourth Floor - Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon What I appreciated the most was how their bookstore had plenty of seats for tired shoppers is sit down and rest before resuming shopping. My boyfriend and I rested on this nice window seat where we looked out the window and mapped out our next steps. Definitely a fun place to browse and look for gifts to bring home but be ready to pay a premium for these luxury goods.
First off, I wanna give the advice of not underestimating the weight of the packaged treats here lol. Being a tourist, my carry-on luggage ended up feeling like a boulder (and of course my British Airways return flight voyage had to begin with me carrying the luggage step-by-step up metal stairs from tarmac level lol). In hindsight, I went a little overboard with the biscuit purchases in particular lol. *Most* of the biscuits that I tried ultimately gave me Trader Joe's vibes; very eye-catching and colorful packaging, but the biscuits themselves are average in terms of taste. Word of caution: if the biscuits are chocolate dipped, the chocolate coating is verrry thick, and honestly it's the main reason why I didn't really enjoy the -lossus series (toffolussus, mochalossus). The pistachio & clotted cream biscuits gave a slightly-chewy, stale-like bite fresh out of the packaging, but funny enough I liked them much more days later when they became strangely soft. The only biscuits that I would re-purchase are the earl grey tea shortbread rounds; super strong earl grey flavor that's scrumptious!! Classy and whimsical multi-level interior. Very friendly staff. Overall I'd say as a tourist this spot is still worth adding onto the London trip itinerary for food souvenir shopping.....just try not to get caught up on all-out purchasing here. :p
Beautiful department store! Well worth a visit to browse or shop. There are a wide assortment of gift teas, biscuits, and more in the ground floor. The food hall is located one level below. You can take the spiral staircase up or down and move quicker as the elevators are small and slower.
When in London, one must have tea. And what better place to partake in this quintessential English tradition than at F&M. In addition, it is a unique place to shop for sweets, teas, tea sets, picnic wares, etc. However, the star of the show can be had on the 4th floor. There are 5 different choices of food sets to choose from and 1 just for the kiddies in your group. After that, one must choose a tea from a 24 page booklet/menu! This is a perfect way to take a step away from the hustle and bustle of being a tourist. Listen to the piano playing whilst enjoying quiet conversations with loved ones, etc.
What an experience!!!!! Came here for afternoon tea and some shopping. We ordered 1 afternoon tea and 1 high afternoon tea and both were absolutely delightful. Ask for Harrison if you go - he's a gem! He helped us navigate the menu perfectly.
I came during construction and missed the reveal of the new special staircase by a few weeks! The construction area was covered so it made the place seem really small but still a lot to see and eat here.
What an exceptional department store! First, the tea, biscuit and confectionary floor is absolutely packed, so be prepared for overstimulation. The rest of the floors are a bit more slower-paced and spread out. The tea tins are stunning - so not only can you take home tea, but you then have this gorgeous tin you can also reuse or display. They varieties they offer - of tea and biscuits - was truly exceptional, and I appreciated that they offered so many variety packs of different products, so you can also try different blends and flavors. After having afternoon tea at their tea salon (top floor), I wandered around the store and picked up a few things to take home. They offer shipping to the US for 25 pounds (find it on the third floor), so I didn't have to worry about purchasing liquids, or worry about fitting it into my suitcase. Plus, it's all set to arrive the day after I arrive home - perfect timing!
Before leaving London, I had to pop in. Starting my day early in the Parlor, I grabbed a small bite. My waiter was most genteel and even brought me a surprise birthday sweet treat! Post-nibbles, I traversed each floor, of course, settling on teas to acquire, for the trip home. F&M has a wide array of teas, some familiar and some which are signature to the brand. The staff are quite eager to assist, and properly demure when doing so. After completing my shopping, it's quite easy to admit that I'm now a tea snob, from this point going forward. LOL read more

My husband and I visited London a few weeks ago as we traveled from the US (Connecticut). On July 16, we sat in a cute coffee shop, we saw everyone passing with these blue bags. Of course being a shopper I had to inquire. They were Fortnum & Mason bags. Of course this was our next stop. As we were perusing the aisles for a good strong breakfast tea we were approached by a tall energetic man who offered to assist us......and assist was an understatement. John B in the red coat gave us THE greatest experience ever in Fortnum & Mason and London. He gave us some history of the store and introduced us to every level of the store. I have to acknowledge each and every person I encountered on this day because you all made it a true London experience and I am forever grateful. John B thank you for your tea knowledge and enthusiasm and as a result, I came for one box of tea and left with three boxes of tea, and a canister of tea. To the beautiful young lady who sold me the box of delicious candy, and was told that great things were coming her way. We then ventured to household items and there was a great presentation and we were convinced we needed the cherry liquor which is delicious. To the young man in the alcohol section, you did a fabulous job describing the beverages and we left with a bottle of pink gin. John B returned and introduced us to the champagne bar and I purchased two bottles of champagne. Again thank you thank you and thank you again for a wonderful experience for us during our travel. read more

Wow, this place is an experience. We came for the afternoon tea, and stayed to shop. We could have spent the entire day. The hors d'oeuvres, finger sandwiches, scones, and patisseries were excellent. Great tea. Great service. Great ambiance. read more

I found this to be a better alternative for souvenirs over the tacky souvenir shops. While expensive, I found some of their products to be worth the cost. If your wallet is too shocked by the prices, just come for the architecture and wander the floors! It's truly a lovely shop with all sorts of things. I bought a couple of the biscuits, but found them to be a bit bland, though their tin was gorgeous. I'd recommend buying some of their tea blends. I wouldn't leave until checking out their lowest level which houses a little food market, and when I was there close to closing time, they were marking down a lot of the patisserie. We left with a bundle that was 50% off! I can't find any info on this on their website, so unsure if this is an everyday occurrence. read more

I had the most amazing Afternoon Tea experience at Fortnum and Mason! The staff here make you feel so special and cared for! The pastries and sandwiches were delicious! There were plenty of options to try, but to be honest, I was truly stuffed after the sandwiches and a couple pastries! They offered refills and take away if your heart truly desired! For tea, I had the royal blend, which was so good! I had to buy some to take home in the store. The store itself was MASSIVE! On the first floor they had tea, chocolates, and biscuits for purchase. Each floor had its own selection and theme (e.g., kitchenware, picnic baskets "trunks", clothing, journals/books, furniture). You can find a gift here for anyone and everyone on your list...for a price LOL! read more

This place is pretty neat! Everything was so dainty and beautiful. I was truly a treat to get to just walk through and feel extravagant. We got to try some of their biscuits and they were so yummy. We went upstairs and perused their stationary and purchased some cards to take home. I could spend hours here! read more
Cute store in London with history. I was here for tea. Beautiful restaurant! Sandwiches were delish and as many as you can't eat. My only minor complaint is you are served the tea of the day. i would have liked to try different teas. They were accommodating to my hubs allergies. read more

This review is for The Parlour, a second-floor, more casual version of the Jubilee Tea Room on the 4th floor. It's a better space for kids, too. We went for a late breakfast. My companion had the salmon and scrambled eggs, which was perfect. I tried the Scotch egg which was a bit dry for my taste, but very tasty nonetheless. It's a very pleasant room to eat in with walls adorned with whimsical illustrations and quotations from a children's book. Then you can go downstairs and dive into the food hall! read more
Came here last year and had a good time with my friends. Brought my mom back this year for her birthday, and the experience was just OK. Food was great love the sandwiches and the desserts. The tea gets cold before you can finish it I wish there was a way to keep the pot warm. My issue this time was honestly with the weight staff. We never got checked on during our visit and had to request that the server returned in order to request more sandwiches and it to go box. I drink tea everyday, so it makes sense that in a land where they drink tea everyday, I needed to go to the best tea store in such land. Thus, we come to Fortnum & Mason. It has all the tea and more you could want. First of all, for the holidays, Fortnum & Mason's exterior is decorated like an advent color with its Christmas lights! So precious. Then you step inside, and it's more magical. There are multiple stories here that sell different items, including tea being on the ground level. Everyone loves Fortnum & Mason, so expect crowds. As someone who loves tea, I love the variety here. I was trying not to purchase too much, since I barely had enough room in my carry-on, but had to bring home some Victoria Grey tea, which is bergamot-based and is my favorite kind of tea. I also ended up getting some minced pies from here for loved ones. But really, they have a lot of different items here - tea or not. They even have a section where you can purchase your own ground coffee and taste samples. I recommend anyone who loves tea to visit Fortnum & Mason while in London. read more
We had so much fun shopping at Fortnum and Mason! We were originally introduced to their tea and cookies by friends who visited and brought back presents for us. We fell in love and we fell hard! We've since made purchases online and shipped to the States and we're so excited to visit the store in person. They have tea, cookies, candies, coffee, home goods, beauty items and more. They also have seasonal offerings. Some of our favorites are the tea and biscuits. During this visit we picked up biscuits, soap, perfume and candy and the staff was very friendly throughout our shopping experience and checked in to see if we needed anything as we browsed all the floors of the store. It was packed when we went and the cashier said it will get even busier once we get closer to the holidays. It's worth braving the crowds to go pick up some tasty items though. read more

This is a must visit in London for all things tea, coffee and foodies. A lovely building full of history and some wonderful finds in the world of tea and chocolates especially. I highly recommend the afternoon tea, it's a beautiful airy room, shades of a Mary poplins age. read more

My party and I had the best time at F & M. Afternoon tea was spectacular, sandwiches, scones, dessert, everything was a delight to the senses. All the staff we came in contact with starting from Michael, our server for afternoon tea, Mohammed, who helped with my selection of loose tea and also Juliana who shipped our products back home took such great care of us and made us feel like we were the only customers in the room even though it was very busy. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. I don't feel the need to mention the quality of Fortnum & Mason because it goes without saying. This place is exceptional in every way: food, tea, biscuits, treats, products, packaging and display. Thank you for such a wonderful experience. read more
