i stumbled (sober) on this place last night, down the street from my hotel and up the street from the noisier and wilder bars and restaurants. i came here already full, just dropping in for a simple glass of wine. But i shouldn't drink wine alone, so i ordered the "Fetasitas" -- bite-sized puff pastries filled with feta, tomato and other delights. Very nice. Then further drinking called for the eggplant bruschetta. Yes it's italian and pronounced Brewskétta, but no matter. I met the owners and saw how they run their business -- their experience shows.
Back tonight for the Striploin and "rustic" french fries. I would normally tell them to skip the boring carbohydrates, but i thought there was a good chance they were different. And I'm not sorry about those calories. Served on a slate slab with a small heap of salt and the best tartar sauce I've ever had. Delicious, and the other customers seemed to be equally pleased -- yes i interviewed them and looked at their empty plates. When a teenage girl eats a whole steak, you know it's good. read more
