It was an underwhelming experience from start to finish. First off, only one elevator was working. There was a long wait especially during the mornings when people are checking out or eating their complimentary breakfast. Next, we had booked the room for 4 people and found only 3 bath towels to share amongst us upon entering our room. The room phone was not working. We left a note the next day with a $5 tip for more towels. Guess what we found? Only 3 towels again and housekeeping took the tip! Lastly, we were planning to use the hotel pool. It was also unavailable. Furthermore, the ice machine was not working on the floor we were staying on. We asked a housekeeper for more towels when we saw her in the hallway and were told there was a towel shortage. How is it acceptable to have 3 bath towels to share amongst 4 people? The only positive points were that the room was clean and breakfast was pretty solid. It was interesting to find staff guarding the bacon and hand it out just outside the breakfast dining area. Self parking was also free although spots were limited as we found the last spot available to park when we checked in. The cons heavily affected our experience. At this point, we have no plans to stay at this hotel again. None of major negative points (ie only one elevator and no access to pool) were mentioned in their website when booking. There are tons of hotels near the Calgary Airport, but what made me book this one was that Element is LEED and Green Key certified. Whenever possible, my husband and I prefer to support companies with eco-conscious and sustainable practices. Plus the photos of this hotel were really nice and I felt the hotel was much nicer than most of the airport hotels I looked into in a similar price range. The room was quite large, and felt more like a studio or junior suite, especially since it had a full kitchen and work desk/living room space. It was clean, modern, spacious, and very relaxing! We only stayed one night here because we arrived after 10pm and just needed a place to sleep before picking up our rental car in the morning and driving up to Banff. (5 stars for the room) The reason for knocking off 1 star (maybe it should be 2) is because of the hotel's airport shuttle service/driver. I called the hotel weeks prior to arriving to ensure that they do in fact have a 24-hour airport shuttle and ask how we're supposed to find it when we arrive. The man I spoke to said to just call when we're at the curb at Calgary Airport and the shuttle would be there in 5 to 10 minutes. When we arrived and called, we ended up standing outside waiting for the airport shuttle for well over 30 minutes. When the driver finally got there, he had a friend or coworker in the passenger seat and we were the only passengers. The driver proceeded to drive like a MANIAC, speeding and tailgating every car that was in front of him! My husband and I looked at each other with wide, terrified eyes a few times in the back seat of the shuttle. Thankfully we got to the hotel safely, but man that shuttle driver was driving like a bat out of hell, and we literally thought he was going to cause an accident. Mind you it was almost 11pm at night, we were exhausted from a long travel day, and we just wanted to get to our hotel room in one piece. It's great they offer a free airport shuttle, but I'd rather pay than feel like my life is in danger due to a reckless shuttle driver! read more

Very nice hotel and great rates! I love traveling to Calgary and normally pick a downtown hotel but this trip my agent gave me an option for the Element by Westin and it was hard to say no to the rate. Still, I was worried because the rate was so low, almost a third of downtown. My doubts were washed away as soon as I arrived. The Element has a blend of contemporary and traditional hotel features that made me at once happy with my choice. My room was a full service suite with kitchen, stove and etc. the bathroom was large and the shower was really nice. I slept great three nights in a row! It's only a $23CAD Uber to downtown but you can also find restaurants and stores within a 10 minute walk. Add to this a full workout room with weights and machines, pool and etc. really nice! read more

For a "basic" hotel this place is perfect and so much better than expected. Very clean spaces, brightly smiling and friendly staff-- very welcoming and helpful, exceptionally reasonable cost, spacious room and very quiet. The breakfast though is divine!! Fresh strawberries and blueberries, delicious looking apples and bananas. So many breakfast choices. Freshly made French toast with tasty sausage. Breakfast at hotels in the US is NOTHING like this. Eons better. Highly recommend even if you just come for one night. Perfect launching pad for a long stay in Canada. Thank you Element! Well done! read more

I travel to Calgary anywhere from 6 to 10 times a year. This hotel has by far been the absolute worst one. With dozens of options available near the airport and in the city, there is truly no reason to stay here. Don't be fooled by the fact that it is a new property and in decent looking shape. The service is disappointing at best and the management is careless. One of the other reviewers nailed it... this place is almost to standard, but not quite. There are a few things to note about this hotel before booking and during your stay: The first is that if you book your room for four people in a suite, they will not give you enough towels or sheets for everyone. Who knew a room booked for four at $180 a night at an airport hotel would not include linens for four? They certainly don't here! They will however confirm that you booked for four people and let you know that 'it is not Element standard' to supply sheets and towels according to the number of people booked into a room. They recommended that once you enter your room and realize it has not been prepared, you come back down to the lobby and ask for your sheets and towels. Don't bother asking why, I promise they will only repeat that your expectations fall outside of 'Element standards.' Second, if you have any issues whatsoever with this property, make sure that you get acknowledgment of the problem in writing before you leave; otherwise, you will be ignored. Two calls and over and hour on the line with the folks at Marriott customer will not solve your problem either. Third, if for some reason you have no choice but to stay here, or they happen to lower their prices such that you feel it may be worth it (as would be reasonable considering the level of service and accommodations), lower your standards as absolutely low as they will go to avoid disappointment. The best advice overall is to simply avoid this place. With so many options, why bother?? read more

Clean quiet hotel. Their breakfast is lacking but it was okay with me because there is a McDonald's and a Tim Hortons within walking distance. The hotel was 15 min away from Downtown Calgary and 15 minutes away from the airport which was perfect. It was about a 2 hour drive to Banff National Park. The rooms were clean and were quite modern. It is an energy efficient hotel which was very cool. We stayed here for 5 days and didn't have any issues. read more

A solid 2.5* hotel. We booked for thursday to monday while in Calgary for a wedding and it's pretty good. The hotel is almost great, like everything is almost at standard but not quite. It is newer and relatively empty so I am not sure why they didn't give us good rooms. we booked ahead of time for a room with a full kitchen room and the guy who checked us in gave us a smaller room with modified Kitchen wit not telling us. He asked if it was our first time and instead of wowing us, we got tricked into a smaller room for 4 nights. Not impressed. When we checked in their credit card swipe didn't work so they had to write down our credit card number - I am a little hesitant on them writing this information on a piece of paper. Room is clean enough but their fan is loud and constantly blows at the bed so we had to call maintenance to come help close the fan and temp setting is odd and confusing, has a cooling and heating temperature. Comforter is soft but bed sheets and pillows are rough and scratchy on the skin like untreated cotton - it is no Sheraton or Westin quality. Bathroom is clean but few amenities provided. I guess you get what you pay for. Breakfast is free with some egg wraps, hard boiled eggs, and cereal and a few baked goods. 1 free drink is available at the bar from monday to thursday but there is never a bartender at the bar. Coffee is free but lids don't really fit the cups, like stretching a small shirt over a fat kid, so be careful or your drink will spill. It's almost like they do things so that they can say there are great services but they fall short. They need to really just have good products and good service if they want to last. Quiet, clean hotel perfect for an airport overnight. Complimentary underground parking, indoor heated swimming pool, OK gym. Free shuttle to & from airport. Our room was spacious with stocked kitchen. Regretfully the small market downstairs didn't have much to offer. Ended up ordering from the Italian restaurant across the street - very good. Super comfortable bed & pillows. Nice room layout with sofa, desk & TV that swivels for viewing all over the room. Clean bathroom with generous countertop. Amenities adequate - as expected. Better than average complimentary breakfast - eggs, sausage, potatoes, wraps, muesli, yogurt, fruit, etc etc. Large, inviting & airy lobby with contemporary decor. Will stay here again. read more

This is a new hotel and well worth the cost. Yes it is part of the Westin brand but more of a family style. The rooms have a refrigerator and stove so you can cook your own meals. Great breakfast every morning and nice happy hour at night. A couple good restaurants nearby. For the kids a Tim Horton and. McDonalds. read more
