My experience here is much different than the low-star reviews I see. Maybe I got lucky. Or maybe it's because we only stayed one night. My child had to move out of the dorms since summer is here. This was an extremely short trip so I was just trying to book for one night. I chose this hotel because of the proximity to campus along with being in a convenient spot to pick up some good food (shout out to Joanie's Pizza and Dave's Hot Chicken!). I previously stayed in another well-known hotel chain but was unimpressed by the noise level. Booked this place online though the website and everything was a breeze. Hotel was easy to find. Loved the ability to stay updated through the Bonvoy app. It sent me reminders of my reservation so I didn't have any last-minute surprises. I found that I was actually able to check in early (regular is at 3), and this may be the deal-maker for us. Checking in early made our 24-hour trip so convenient, giving us a chance to drop off some luggage and take a quick snooze before hitting the road and more chores. The room we stayed in was made up of a small kitchen complete with oven, fridge, micro sink and dishwasher. Cabinets had basic cutlery. One queen size bed in one bedroom and couch in the living room. Both rooms had big TV with all the basic channels. Bathroom and the was rest of our room was acceptably clean. Overall, an easy 4-stars from me. Staff was friendly and helpful although we had no major issues. Hotel was a lot more quiet(than our last one). The bathroom could be a tad bit cleaner but nothing that was unacceptable. Apparently there is a pool that is not in service and a free breakfast that gets good reviews. However we had to check out at the crack of dawn so didn't get to experience any of that. In conclusion, despite the negative reviews, this will probably serve as our go-to hotel when I'm in town for this college stuff. I felt comfortable here.

    Bug

Awful. I can't believe Westin/Marriott has their brand connected to this. The only positive thing was the size of the room- it has a separate little kitchen area. The room, while large, was run down dirty. The lineman drenched in bleach. The bathroom chipped and dirty. Front desk- I felt like I was in the middle of urban America- not a noce suburb with many businesses on the same road. This was the clincher! i am a life long Marriott person. I switched to a holiday inn express which I expected nothing from, and it was cleaner..

The voice of reason here to say this Element gives you a nice option along your NE Massachusetts trek. Sure it isn't palatial and the blue-bloods might have stayed somewhere more regal in their day, but it gets the job done. This hotel is good for work or play, with the right mix of in-room choices depending on your visit. The rooms are spacious, especially the separate bed/living room layouts. You have a large fridge and counter space, along with a kitchen bar and stools if you're eating in. Bathrooms are fine with all amenities, and the couch/TV area is good to relax when your done with your work at the in-room desk. Breakfast was creative with the separate stations, although the scrambled egg service station that wanted to be an omelette station when it grows up was a little non-necessary. Just let us get our eggs and sausage self-serve, or go all-in with the omelettes. But otherwise good breakfast selection and environment. The bar area is nice at night as well, especially when you're ready to stay in during a snowstorm. You're a little removed from local eating, but there are a few nearby, and you can get delivery. I'd return if I'm in the area again.

    Dirty door

I'm just going to give the pros and cons for my stay at the Element hotel. The pros - Early check-in. I was able to check in 1 hour early. The hotel was very generous when we asked for extra towels. The staff was very friendly There was a kitchen in the room The cons- The water was turned off 1 hour after we checked in for 1 1/2 hours for maintenance. We stayed for 2 nights. We didn't have hot water until the morning of check out. It was dirty. The breakfast was not good at all It was freezing in the room. The heat wouldn't go above 70 and the vents were blowing out cold air. I mentioned this to the staff and they offered to add points to my account. They never did.

The continental breakfast buffet was ample and there's always coffee in the foyer. If I am to stay here again I would make a note to be with someone. I think the floor I stayed in was renovated about 3 years ago so I was probably in a better area than other reviewers here. I had a pleasant enough stay at this hotel but I felt like I was just spared of oddities, for some reason. There's a vibe that's not fully positive.

Everything worked. Cons: Hotel smelled of cigarettes and weed every afternoon and evening. Even my room smelled of it. I ran the air conditioner all day just to hopefully filter out some of the smell which seemed to work or maybe I just got used to the smell. Smokers like to stand immediately outside the entry to the hotel. The whole hotel is old but not like the from a different era old where it's just dated. Instead everything needs work. The furniture is all scratched up, missing top coats, the bathroom caulking and trim is all cracked up and stained, the general touches, walls, and flooring is in need of a refurbish. Housekeeping experience was odd too. I came back the first day to find the bed had been made but the coffee had not been replenished or cleaned up (not that I left a big mess, just an opened coffee package) and the bathroom hadn't been touched. Used towels on the floor and trash still in the bins. This didn't bother me much though as I didn't need anything cleaned after only one night but it was odd that only a little was cleaned during the visit. The next housekeeping visit was kinda the opposite. The towels were reset and cleaned up but the trash was still in the bins, the coffee was still not replenished, and the bed wasn't made. Overall it was just odd. I've never had house keeping do some of the room but not all. Usually it's all or none. Unfortunately, it just was not a pleasant place to come back to after work to unwind.

The drive to Plumb Island through Newburyport was the perfect introduction to our romantic, north shore getaway. Being from Phoenix, we look forward to our cold, winter adventure each year and neither of us had been anywhere north of Boston before. Before our arrival, communication with the Blue was informative and hand a personal feel. Obviously, the Blue caters to summer beach-goers, and the reserved parking area near the hotel would definitely be a huge plus for folks competing for parking spots, but in winter, there are very few people or cars on the entire island. The Blue is a quaint little hotel nestled on the beach in a neighborhood of New England beach homes. We were happily greeted at the front desk by Blue staff and the General Manager. They tendered to our every need and surprised us with a fabulous fruit and chocolate anniversary gift waiting for us in the room. The room was beautiful with a classic and modern beach feel. Sliding glass doors open up to a wooden deck with a fabulous view of the Atlantic Ocean. We could hear the crashing waves while sitting inside beside the gas fireplace to read. It was magical! Also magical was the bed! We haven't slept that well in years! The bed was so comfortable and my wife loved the pillows so much that she bought the very same ones for home the day we returned. And don't forget the two hot tubs! There is nothing quite as enjoyable as relaxing in a steaming, bubbling hot tub while it's snowing all around you. Honestly, the "hot tubs available" filter was probably what highlighted the Blue to me during my search for this trip. One hot tub is on the second floor deck, overlooking the beach and the second is hidden under the pine trees at the end of a short sidewalk across the street from the main building. Both were large enough for probably 6 people, clean and well maintained. Again, it was February so we had them all to our crazy selves the whole week. The beach is beautiful! There is direct, private access from the second floor of the Blue, via a wooden boardwalk. The beach is sandy with very few rocks. I didn't see any seaweed or anything washing up on shore, but it was February, so I didn't expect to see a whole lot of anything living coming out of the water. Every morning we enjoyed a beautiful sunrise over the ocean while we drank some local coffee delivered direct to the room. Oh yeah, breakfast! Each morning the staff dropped off and adorable wicker basket with fresh, local breakfast offerings plus that wonderful carafe of coffee. We had different breakfast each day, to include quiche, overnight oats, fresh fruit, biscuits, and bacon. Just the right amount for the two of us and we couldn't wait to see what breakfast surprise would arrive each morning. Although Plumb Island may feel remote from the business of the Boston-metro area, the location was great for dipping down to Salem without hitting any traffic, or popping up to New Hampshire for a sleighride through the forest. One morning, after a small nor'easter blew through, our SUV got stuck in the parking lot snow. No worries! The General Manager of the Blue came out to hail down a plow and personally helped push us out. Now that's service! Overall, I would wholeheartedly recommend the Blue -Inn on the Beach to anyone looking for a romantic beach getaway. If you're looking for a less Metropolitan vacation with the proximity to get to Boston in under an hour, the Blue can't be beat. We will definitely be coming back. Maybe even in the summer next time!

The front desk staff were the most friendly of folks that I have ever encountered, and the breakfast options, which are included, were perfect to get the day started. There is a short trial behind this hotel that I really had hoped to be able to adventure into, but as I traveled in winter, daylight was limited. The only negatives of this hotel were the over hot heater and underhot shower temperatures. Perhaps folks don't have the same need as I do to scald my soul during showers, but alas, my California blood needs to boil to start my day. Overall, I would definitely stay here again!

My only issue was the two bedrooms were supposed to have two queens and one bedroom only had a full. I drew the short straw and got that bed but since sleeping solo, it wasn't a huge issue.
