And low and behold, China Meridian appeared as just soon as it appeared it was in my rear view mirror. But, not for long as I did a U-Turn and made my way back. China Meridian is your typical Main Street store front spa. I arrived mid day so you wouldn't think it would be too busy, but they were very busy. In the hour that I was there, there were 3 walk-ins, one with an appointment and a few phone calls. However, despite this activity, my masseuse, Linda, only left the room once. Room was big and a little chilly. I thought they keep the heat down to keep costs down or maybe they are trying to go green and conserve on fossil fuel consumption. But, they reason they keep the heat down is because when they are giving a massage, they work up a sweat and if it's cooler, they don't get so hot and tired. If they are comfortable and happy, as long as I get a good massage, I'm OK. After seeing Linda, first glance, first impression, I almost requested to see who else was available. Linda is tall and slender and a lot younger than most masseuses. I figured that bending over a table giving a massage for an hour would be to strenuous. But, never underestimate their ability to give a good massage. I'm glad I stayed with Linda, she gave a very nice massage. Too bad China Meridian doesn't have those bars for walking on back. Once again, she asked a few questions about how I was feeling and where I was feeling it. She was most interested in how I had responded to the first massage two weeks before. In fact, my lower back, legs and shoulders responded well last time, and I was ready for another strong stretching and deep tissue therapeutic hour. This time, except when I had to interact with her by resisting her pushing/pulling, I was more relaxed and was able to zone out and go somewhere within while she worked her magic. Marla dug deeper into my thighs which had absorbed the result of two herniated discs. Painful, but necessary to relieve stress and increase flexibility. Torquing my hips and legs to open space between my discs. Leaning her weight into my folded knees to help loosen the perpetual tightness in my lumbar spine. The time passed quickly, but at its end I felt great, and almost intoxicated from the work done. The spa allowed me to sit in a quiet room for a few minutes until that sensation ended. Slept like a baby last night. PRO TIP - Marla actually works in several locations, just call her to find where is most convenient for you.

First, if you see the business's Craigslist ads, you will notice a few elements that might give you the wrong idea about this place: - Ads feature multiple pictures of revealingly-clad, voluptuous young women; - Customers are advised that they have their choice of "5 Massuses (sic) daily"; - The ads mention the availability of a "table shower"; - The listings state that "Extra Services" are available and "we do everything"; - "Nuru massage" (ahem; look it up) is supposed to be available. If you think that all of these elements may be designed to lead prospective customers to think that something other than plain old massage goes on here, don't worry! Nothing "extra" happens at this place, there was only one (decently clothed, mature) "Massuse" (not 5) when I showed up, the place has no table shower, and no mention of "nuru" was made during my visit. Know what else was missing, though? Any semblance of an actual massage! As mentioned above, the 40-something attendant is a pleasant woman, but she is most definitely NOT a "masseuse"; she appears to have little (if any) knowledge of therapeutic massage techniques. She oils you up, then proceeds to drag her hands across your body -- ineffectually -- for about an hour. So, to sum up: Those hoping for a real massage will be disappointed, as will those who are hoodwinked by the ads into believing that this is a place for more, erm, adventurous activity. So no one will be happy... except, perhaps, the proprietor of this useless "spa", when he or she pockets your money.
