I've been dealing with frozen shoulder since April, and after trying everything--physical therapy, medication, icing--I was still in pain with limited mobility. My husband and I booked a couples massage (he came to help me on and off the table), and I explained my issue at the front desk. They kindly translated everything to Lily, my therapist. Lily was amazing. She used deep tissue, stretching, and gentle pressure to target my problem area. By the end, I had regained about 80% of my shoulder mobility. The pain hasn't fully gone away, but the improvement was immediate and meaningful. If you have a specific issue, be sure to mention it when booking or at the front desk--not just once you're in the room. It helps everyone get on the same page and ensures the therapist can focus right away. Language barriers aside, the care, attention, and results here are outstanding. My bf booked us massages at this place late last year. Mind you, this was our second time here. The first time was pleasant enough but this second time was horrific for me! I had a male masseuse who had guns of steel and he handled my back like I was a man too. I mean, it wasn't supposed to be a deep tissue massage, but it felt like it x 10. I was in pain and told him that and he continued right along with his method for the most part. My bf enjoyed his from his female masseuse. If I ever go here again, I'm requesting a woman too, but I doubt we'll be back. It was supposed to be a relaxing experience and I was sore for four days after. Do better and listen to your clients. The women staffed there are pretty nice, I'll say. I would give them 1.5 stars if I could, but they're only getting 1 star especially because I complained during my massage and nothing changed. read more

If I read the reviews, I might skip over Spa Haven, but I was going by word of mouth, my friend told me an hour massage was $60 and she was super strong and would climb on the table and dig in. I was like stop, you had me at $60. So I made an appointment for the next day at 10a. This massage was exactly what I needed and it did not disappoint. They also specialize in foot massages, if you have only had a pedicure foot massage, go to an Asian foot spa, it is life changing. It is serious business. I booked a 90 minute massage for 5pm appointment at 3:35pm. When I arrived to be told that they were running late. They simply took a walk-in appt that put them off schedule. No fret, I understand since they are trying to maximize business. BUT to add salt to the wound...they only were able to do a 70 min massage and then charged me 75. The menu price list for non-members clearly states 60 min for 60 and 90 min for 90. So why would my 70 be 75. The receptionist states she only works there and doesn't make the rules. She was trying to explain the longer the massage the less expensive per minute but 70 is in between the 60 and 90 so makes zero sense AND specifically they made me take the 70 min because they didn't have anyone ready for my 5pm appointment. I was there on time. I asked to speak to manager but they would not give me. Additionally, with her attitude says that she tried calling me 2x. BUT I didn't recognize the number so never picked up and she did NOT leave any message. No message! Super disappointed since I moved to Newtown recently and have been going once a week. Will not be going ever again. I rather pay double than support this nonsense. I tried to explain calmly and nicely and the receptionist was rude and dismissive. Massage was also not as good today. It's too inconsistent, Sometimes it's good and sometimes it's not. This review could have been avoided if she gave me a contact w manager. read more

I love getting foot reflexology here. The price is great and the massage itself is great but the therapist talk to each other, the phones ring, there's a lot of conversation and it's not relaxing. If I happen to forget my noise canceling headphones it's really not a great experience. I know others have mentioned this to the owner as have I but there have been no changes. The strangest massage I ever got in my life. Picture the massage you get at a nail salon while your nails are drying but worse. First off I requested a female and only the male massager was available. Fine, no big deal I guess. But there's no way he was a licensed masseuse. No idea what the hell he was doing. It was as if he was exfoliating my body. Hard fast strokes on my back and arms to the point my entire body was moving along with him. So uncomfortable I asked him to stop twice. In what world is it supposed to be relaxing when hot stones are being knocked together at my ears. The foot massage was a joke. He was pretty much tickling my toes. I went for a full body massage and they only did one side of my body which I asked several times if they would do the front of my legs. The beds are very uncomfortable. Then they want you to pay cash, which is fine (they have an atm without a fee) but my bank will charge me a transaction fee. Well my card wouldn't work in the atm and they seemed annoyed that I wanted to use my card. Then as I was walking out the person who rung me up said something really rude to me. I received the foot reflexology massage and on a separate visit the neck and shoulder (with complimentary foot reflexology). I love this this place. The person giving the massage is skilled and knows what she is doing. She removed all my knots in the back around the shoulder blades and gave me an amazing foot massage. I would definitely recommend going here. Also suggest you just buy the service at the store since the Groupon price isn't any different. I did a couples massage with my significant other. I was unimpressed and uncomfortable. Being practically naked and the man gave no warning or signal that he was going to lift my sheet. Took it completely off me and told me to turn over. The man was also sick and breathing extremely heavy in my ear the whole time. The massage was mediocre. And the towels they wiped us down with did not smell pleasant. Like someone peed on them or left them in the washer for a extended period of time. My daughter got a massage and it was horrible. It was so bad she cut it from 90 minutes to 60 minutes. he wouldn't take her card had her use ATM machine which she then got charged a fee for. When I arrived no one was at the reception desk. After a few minutes someone leaned over the second story railing and told me to have a seat. On your finally greeted I was taken upstairs to a room and simply told to undress then lay face down. A massage therapist came in a few minutes later. No introduction, no name, didn't ask what kid of massage is like or the type of pressure I liked. She went into a drawer and grabbed a hair tie and tied up my hair. I imagine the same hair tie used by many people a day. Gross. The "massage" consisted of pressing so hard I thought she was going to break my back. Weird, random strokes, rolling her entire arm up and down my back. Then she proceeds to straddle me on the table to start from the bottom of my back and work upward. AWKWARD! I was never asked to flip over like most massages, and now my back is killing me from so much hard pressure. I asked twice for lighter pressure but she didn't listen. At the end I asked what type of massage she gave me and she stated a deep tissue massage. I purchased the new customer "spa massage". It was far from a spa experience. I feel like I was bulldozed. Worst massage experience ever! **Also they do not accept credit cards. If you hand them a credit card, they direct you to an ATM to withdrawal cash from. They say they don't charge a fee, but if your bank does then be prepared. Such an odd experience all around. And now I'm left with an extremely sore back. read more

She previously was the massage master at the Newtown Athletic Club. Jin does an excellent job relieving neck and back pain in a comfortable setting. First time getting a massage there had a couples massage and it was great with affordable pricing!

The service I received today was just labeled a massage not a deep tissue or any other type of more intense massage. The massage I received was one of the most aggressive massages I've ever had. Pounding my body, smacking it and being super super aggressive to the point it was painful. The woman didn't speak English so it was challenging to communicate how I was feeling. The lady from the front desk told me to say lighter pressure if needed, that should have been my sign to leave. Once the first 15-20 minutes was over, it became more enjoyable where the woman was actually rubbing me in a relaxing way. It's a shame because the woman at the front desk was nice and very welcoming with great customer service. Her massage therapists need to be less aggressive for them to compete with larger companies like Hand & Stone etc. that are much gentler. I would not come back and felt compelled enough to make a review because it was such an aggressive and painful experience. I am worried that I will feel sore in the morning. read more

My boyfriend planned a massage and a facial for me for Valentine's Day. He scheduled it a week in advance and we left our beach trip early to come home for this. We got there right on time and they had no idea we were coming. He even had the confirmation text from them. They had us waiting for 20 mins before they told us that we have to wait another 40 mins because they forgot about our appointment and I wouldn't be able to get my facial done that day. I asked for the managers information and the lady at the front desk told me she didn't have the mangers phone number only their email. I called back the next day to ask where our refund was and they gave me the managers phone number and admitted they lied to me about not having it. They made excuses about how it's hard to schedule their employees since they are a small business. I consider myself a borderline massage junkie, so have become an aficionado of sorts. Spa Haven is a top-of-the-line Asian massage experience. It is clean, convenient, and highly effective. All too often masseuses go through rote routines and pay lip service to any particular problem areas. The therapists here are trained to go to the root of the problem. They'll work hard to get out all your knots, and if you ask for a strong massage, they do not taper off the pressure halfway through. Otherwise, this is a $$ massage, not a luxury spa massage experience, so hot towels are the garden variety, there are no steam rooms or showers, but the price point reflects this. Weirdest most aggressive massage I have ever had. I get semi regular massages and received this one as a gift. I arrived for my appointment and was brought back to a room with little interaction. I got ready and assumed face down since the head booster was in. The holster had a mental bar across the bottom with very little padding around the rest of it. The metal bar dug into my chin for the entire time I was face down. The ankle booster was also the knee booster and provided no more lift than a pillow would. Certainly not enough to alleviate strain on critical parts of the body. The masseuse used very aggressive techniques I have never had (not in deep tissue, trigger point, needling ,etc). She pounded my body a lot. Massaged in obscure and random patterns and never established a flow. Each time her hands fully removed from my body, she would slap them down in a new location. After she would massage an area she would leave the room and the door open and go get a hot wet towel to aggressively scrub the oil off my body (I've only seen that done at speedy pedicure places, the oil is half the benefit for winter dry skin). She also close fisted pounded on parts of my back, arms, and legs. I could get over the weirdness of it all if I found it helpful. When she ended, it was painful to fully stand up. My lower back hurt a lot from both the massage and poor bolstering. I reread their advertisement and menu again to see if they give a description of the service I received and I did not see if anywhere in their info. This is certainly not a traditional massage place and what I receive was not therapeutic or relaxing in any way. read more
