The tram ride from one end to the other takes 2:40 and climbs one of the steepest slopes in the city. It opened for passengers in 1892. What's interesting about this ride is that it is not an independent track. The path where the train rides is also open to vehicles and pedestrians. It is considered one of the most picturesque streets in Lisbon, if not Europe. The Elevador is operated by the same Carris that runs the subway, trams and buses. If you've bought a 24 hour pass, you can scan your Viagem card and it's included. Otherwise, you will need to purchase a ticket from the driver onboard - he takes cash. The yellow funicular is the most popular one in Lisbon because of the steep hills. Unfortunately, it wasn't running when we came by on a Saturday at around 2:30. Maybe it only runs on weekdays? Regardless of that fact, it's a cool place for some photo ops. This is where you see all of those Lisbon shots on Instagram. We didn't walk up the entire hill but it was a sight to see. We didn't have time to come back another day to see if the tram was running since our time in Lisbon was limited, but if this is a must-see for you, just be sure to budget enough time on your trip. His English was very good, and he was personable and knowledgeable. We'd chosen two points of interest to visit along the way. João waited with the car while we stopped at Nazare and then again when we explored Obidos and had a leisurely lunch. As we arrived in Lisbon we didn't have much time left, but João still managed to show us around a bit. Highly recommend!

You should get the bus since the metro would be downtown and then back out. I was here by metro and found the station easy enough to navigate. There is a confusion layer because two metro lines meet here. Despite being a relatively new station - it opened in 1993 - it is not handicapped accessible from street level, but there are lifts for cross-platform transfers. The station is surrounded by mostly apartment buildings but the Pimenta Palace branch of the Museu de Lisboa is within walking distance. It is also the closest station to the massive Estádio José Alvalade where Sporting Clube de Portugal plays their matches. On the Linha Amarela (Yellow line), it is between Quinta das Conchas (towards Odivelas) and Cidade Universitária (towards Rato). On the Linha Verde (Green line), it is between Telheiras (the end of the line) and Alvalade (towards Cais do Sodré). There are the usual automated ticket vending machines and turnstiles here.
