The spa is following the Covid guidelines, which is appreciated. The spa is very clean, although I went and grabbed a cup by the coffee service and it had already been used. It had coffee marks at the bottom. Here are a few tips if you are enjoying a day at the spa: Parking - Consider parking somewhere other than the building's parking lot. It's very limited and when you go in, it only shows parking spots for the staff; which makes it confusing. Booking of massages- If you have a preference for a masseuse or a masseur, mention it more than once. Overall, my mother-in-law really enjoyed her visit at the spa, which was the main goal of our visit. This is a nice spa, with a wide variety of services. I've had a gift certificate for Elevation burning in my pocket for the last two years and I finally used it! Elevation is a lovely spa, they have all the standard services, waxing, lashes, etc. Their online booking system was super convenient and easy for me to work around my schedule without doing a phone consult. They have good signage, so you know to take the elevator to the floor with the spa, since it shares space with Capital Fitness. Harlee was my esthetician and she was lovely! She wore a mask the whole time, but I felt bad not wearing mine -- however I booked a facial and forgot about the masks entirely. She was great asking me about my skin and really listened to me, which I've not had as detailed an assessment before. My skin felt great and I was happy to have someone do extractions! The drawback to this location is how loud it is. Even with the door closed to the spa rooms, you can hear people working out and grunting down the hall. It was noisier than I would have liked. A coworker referred me to Elevation after I had complained of receiving shellac/gel manicures at other salons that barely made it past a week, so far elevation has not disappointed. Kelly has done an amazing job both times I've seen her, definitely the best manicure I've ever received. One even passed the test of time after I had to cancel and reschedule an appointment that left me with the manicure for three weeks without chips! I have also seen Ashely and she is great as well! Both have lovely personalities that make me feel like I'm spending an hour with a friend. It's also worth mentioning that the nail room is beautiful and modern with big windows and nice views. A shellac manicure at elevation is a higher price than some other salons you may stumble upon but it's definitely worth it. First impressions are lasting! And Elevation Spa (as in this is the service I was going for) has left a horrible taste in my mouth. Just denote: SERVICE IS LACKING and I take issue with the whole website ad and follow up phone call I just completed moments ago. I was brought to the spa through a click through ad. Saw the $29 massage deal and thought of the schedule dates and called after seeing the website "Under construction" sign on the main page. I called and had to leave a message as they are not open on Sundays. Just received a return phone call and it was as unprofessional as possible. Ok, she wasn't smacking gum in my ear but she called me as if we were bff's. You don't know me so call announcing yourself and not simply by my first name. Yes...this matters. Anywhoo, once I recognize what's going on I state the premise for my call and purpose. Apparently, there are several deals going and she was confused as to what I was speaking of so I start over and give the details. Now...she gets it and tells me how you have to buy that online and those change weekly so today would be a different deal. Well, I can read and that wasn't clear. But maybe I'm at fault for not viewing the pages from the actual computer and simply relying on the Iphone. At any rate, ergh no... I don't think so. If that's the deal and I called you before it ended and etc. etc. honor it. Matter of fact, go head and prebook me to get the additional 3 massages in that I had planned for after my travel dates. But whatever. The lack of self-correcting, nonchalant attitude told me to keep it moving. No need to spend my money here. I'm usually not picky about my hair or small mistakes but I would not go here to get your hair colored. I just got home from my appointment and brushed my hand through my hair, and the whole bottom section was wet and sticky. When I looked at my hand I realized it wasn't just conditioner; it was dye left in the whole bottom section of my hair. I called the salon letting them know there was dye left in my hair and asked if it would mess up the color to shower, and they didn't even apologize for the mistake or offer that I come back for them to fix it, just said to wash it out. Now the bottom section of my hair feels very damaged and brittle from dye being left in for so long. And the back of my nice wool coat now has dark splotches of dye by the neck. I'm not sure how it wasn't obvious when my hair was being blow-dried that a whole section was full of dye. On top of that, my roots were dyed a color lighter than the rest of my hair, so I'll still have to go pay to get it dyed again to fix the color. I know it can be hard to get my hair color right on the first try, so I normally wouldn't have even been upset about that. The atmosphere of the salon was cool and my stylist was very nice. I probably would not be very upset if they had just apologized for the serious mistake when I called. But it's really upsetting to spend money to feel good about your hair, then go home and have to scrub it all out and have dye splotches on your nice coat, without even an apology. Mistakes totally happen, but not offering to make them right is incredibly unprofessional. Really disappointing because I liked my stylist and would have returned. read more

I manage summer camps and outdoor programs for kids so my job is pretty physically demanding. I like to treat myself to a spa day occasionally to ease my sore muscles and feel a bit more human after a long week of hiking boots and campfires. Elevation gave me exactly what I was looking for. Jenny gave me a spa pedi and shellac mani and was an absolute joy to chat with the entire time. The massage chair was wonderful and the view of the capitol and the lake from the salon windows is amazing. Mallory cut my hair and did exactly what I wanted. I wear my hair short and she was able to give me a cut that is both cute and easy to style. I just got back from another weekend at camp and the picture of my nails was taken after I spent an entire day building campfires, running an industrial dishwasher, and hauling supplies. Shellac is awesome, but only if it is applied correctly. Thanks, Elevation! You just earned a new customer! The prices are on the higher side but we'll worth the atmosphere and service. They have good package deals and you will be treated like royalty while you're there. Park in the garage for only $2 if you think you'll be there for awhile. I've been going to Elevation since my hair stylist, Mallory, moved there from her previous salon (she is the only person I've trusted with my hair for the last 5 years, including my wedding). Not only is it super easy to book appointments for whatever you want - massage, hair, nails, facial, etc., but the services are superb. Hair - Mallory is incredible. I've never had someone pay so much attention to how my hair cut will work for me when I walk out of the salon, but the next 2-3 months as well. Plus, she does amazing scalp massages! Facials - I've had services with Iris and Craig - both excellent. I am all about extractions, which can be hard to find in Madison (a lot of places just want to pat your face oh-so-gently for a hour...) and they both have honored my request to get all the badness out while making it very relaxing and wonderfully scented with aromatherapy. Massages - I'm more of a facial than a massage girl, but Elevation does a good massage. During my most recent deep tissue, Kaylee did a great job of breaking up some scar tissue in an injured foot that allowed me to go to a Barre class the following day. Also, the spray tans are a great service for those soon-to-be brides! They were able to squeeze me in for a trial run the week before and the week of my wedding and I looked fantastic (no oompa loompa streakiness or weird smells). Just make sure you rinse off based on the timeframe they give you - I left the trial run on a little too long, which made me really adhere the second time around when it really counted. I've been to this salon a bunch of times for eyebrow waxing and massages and was generally happy. I had been taking my son in as well for massages. I was suddenly informed today that they only take clients over 16 years of age after we showed up for the appointment, got ready, and were on the massage table. I had asked bringing him in the past and was always told it was fine. I understand if the therapist isn't comfortable working on kids, but I was never informed that it is a salon-wide policy. Man, I can only assume that they've had a staff overhaul, because my experience here as amazing. Do yourself a favor, and book a massage session now! You will not regret it. The services are pretty pricey ($45 for a 30 minute session, $75 for a 60 minute session), but massages in general aren't exactly known for being cheap. Look out for seasonal sales though, because they often offer deals throughout the year. I'll be extremely happy with a $60/1 hour massage, which is a common special. Now on to the service. The front staff was extremely friendly, greeted me as soon as I entered, and offered to take my jacket/any belongings to the back. She told me who my masseuse was going to be, and directed me to a seating area to wait. After 15 minutes of reading some GQ, my masseuse, Kevin, came down to get me. Their massaging area in the back was lit up by a few candles, giving it a very relaxing ambiance. The soothing forest soundtrack in the background didn't hurt either. Kevin was very accommodating, and started off by asking me if there's any soreness or things to consider before proceeding. He then instructed me on what to do, detailing the process, making sure I was completely comfortable. Then, the massage started. I'm not going to go into depths, because that would take forever, but I haven't felt this relaxed in a loooooong time. I left feeling extremely refreshed and tension-free. I had a hair appointment with Willow yesterday and am so pleased with the outcome! Back story- My hair is relatively thick and started to get a bit too long and heavy. I didn't request a dramatic change given that I'm getting married this summer. Willow is the first hair dresser I've come across in Madison that is super comfortable and familiar with the concept of razor cutting. My hair feels so light and looks perfectly blended with layers using the razor cutting technique. I will definitely go back to request her services for something shorter in the future. read more

I got a great shellac manicure from Sammie. First she removed the previous shellac and did a very gentle and thorough job. My nails still looked great after the removal. She was very precise, not only in the application of the gel, but in preparing my nails and shaping them. She's friendly and told me to be in touch if I didn't get at least 10-14 days of wear with this manicure. (My previous one at Elevation started chipping and lifting after a week.) I had a $50 gift-card, so I tried the European facial with Sue. It was THE best thing I've done to myself in a while. The facial treatment includes deep cleansing, mask and all the other good services while you lay on the comfortable bed in clean serene room. Sue was very professional and knowledgeable about skin problems and the appropriate treatments. She explained to me the purpose of all the products she used on me, but was never pushing me to buy any of them. After the very relaxing 60min, I couldn't believe how incredible the result was! Today I got my second prenatal massage at Elevation. This review refers only to massage services, but I plan to try their pedicures the next time I need one, since they're no more expensive than other spas in the area. I have had two different massage therapists, Josh and Jess. Both were very good, although I think I preferred Jess's approach to my upper back/neck pain. She put me on my back (I can still lie on my stomach comfortably, as I'm just coming out of the first trimester), and spent a lot of time on my neck, which has been giving me trouble. She did complementary work on my shoulders, chest, and scalp, which all together TREMENDOUSLY improved the neck pain I've been having since I gained three cup sizes with this pregnancy. She also did some work on my hips/glutes, and if I ever get to the point where I can come in for a massage without major neck issues, I'll definitely want her to work on them more! Unfortunately, they don't recommend going over 60 minutes with a prenatal massage, but I've felt significantly relaxed and improved after both of the massages I've had there. I like a LOT of pressure, and both Josh and Jess were able to deliver it. Also, I was told that all their therapists are certified for pre-natal. Their prices are very reasonable. It's $70 for 60 minutes, plus tip, and I don't think you'll find a better deal in town--certainly not for the quality of massage you get! I definitely plan to go back for some longer massages after I give birth; a 90-minute massage is $90, and it looks like they also have some nice deals when you purchase a nail/massage/facial package. My only complaint really is that when you call and get put on hold, their phone system makes these weird periodic beeps the whole time--they know it's doing it; apparently they can't make it stop. But other than that, every aspect of my interactions with the spa has been great! The receptionists are very nice and attentive to making sure that your waiting experience is pleasant. read more

Elevation is wonderful! It is a clean, bright space, and the staff is very friendly. I had a horrible experience at a nail salon located on Mineral Point Rd once. The man doing my nails took a tool out of his drawer that wasn't in any sort of sanitizing solution. He ended up cutting my skin with it and later that night my pinkie finger was the size of my thumb, and had turned black. Needless to say, I have been afraid to go to nail salons ever since, but Elevation definitely eased my nerves. I saw Ashley for a shellac manicure. She is so amazing and talented. After calling me the same day to reschedule my appointment to suit the stylist's schedule, I was late and the stylist (Mallory) banned me for life. I work 75 hours a week and called as soon as I could to tell the salon I would be a little late, they then proceeded to play phone tag for 15 minutes before telling me I couldn't even reschedule. read more

She has made my hair much healthier and switched me from a blondaholic to a natural dirty blonde. This is not the place to get a facial. I'm not sure why they offer them as it was pretty evident that this isn't a service they provide often. The gal that gave me the facial was nice enough... but again, my guess is that she had performed one only a few times. She looked at my skin but didn't communicate her findings (I see you are dry here, oily there... I recommend we do X). That didn't happen. She then did extractions - for a LONG time. Finally she put a mask on my face. She spent the next 10-12 min doing a shoulder/neck massage. Same exact motion over same exact location, over and over again for 12 min. My skin was getting rubbed raw. Finally time to take off the mask and put on another. Again - during the ENTIRE time the mask was on, 2nd time, she once again did the same exact neck shoulder rub. Over and over again. Some exact motion on same exact location. I honestly started to get sick to my stomach. I guess no one told her to vary it up. Or perhaps do an arm or hand massage. Or at the very least, use a different motion. The only saving grace from this whole experience is that it was only $75. read more

I just had another cut done yesterday with a different stylist and it was still great! So friendly and very skilled. I love that they take your coat and offer a beverage when you come in. It is something so small but it really makes you feel welcomed. As for the cut itself, I saw Anna. She began the appt by asking me what I wanted, and, I think even more importantly, what I didn't want. She did a great job on my hair and I walked out feeling like a million bucks. Got my nails done here for my wedding and had an amazing experience. Minor criticism, I had a bit of a hard time finding the place. It is inside Capitol Fitness, but I had no idea about this, as I had never been there before. It's easy to miss, if you don't know that fact. Other than that, my manicure was wonderful. Full disclosure, I have never had a manicure before; not my thing. However, one of my wedding projects managed to turn my nails blue, so something needed to be done. The nail technician (I believe it was Emmy) was very professional, kind, and good at her job. She waited patiently while I selected a color, as I was pretty baffled by all the choices. Her work was quick, efficient, and very relaxing. We made pleasant conversation, but she also let me have some nice quiet time, because I was pretty damn hungover. My nails looked amazing for the big day, and I got lots of compliments. The manicure also lasted about a week before I put a big chip in it, and I am hard on my hands when I am not being a bride. I have been going to Tiffany for years, and she is amazing. Having a natural look is very important to me. She always takes time and care to dye small, individual sections different colors to make me look like a completely natural blonde. I have also had great luck with her haircuts. I have very thin hair. She does a great job making it look like it has some volume. I have always walked away happy with the work she's done. I saw a previous comment by a male customer that did not have the same positive experience with Tiffany as I have had. I would suggest making an appointment with Allen next time. He worked across from Tiffany for years. From what I saw of his clients they were predominantly male, and he always did a fantastic job. read more

I have had my fair share of terrible hair stylists (see previous reviews!), so whenever I move I'm always terrified. I talked to some of my neighbors and they referred me to Tonya at Elevation. I had to wait a few weeks to get an appointment with her, but it was worth it. The first time I went I only had her cut my hair. We got along really well, and she did a great job! I scheduled an appointment for color right away. I was nervous because I've had so many people turn my hair green or bright red - apparently my hair is difficult to color. Tonya got it right the first time! It was absolutely perfect. No one in Cleveland had been able to do that in the 3 years I was there. My hair has not looked this good since I lived in Cincinnati! Tonya is fun to talk to, and it's almost like a therapy session every time I go. I love the décor of the salon as well. It has fun colors, and seems a little whimsical or even "under the sea" themed. I do recommend booking appointments well in advance, but again, it is worth the wait! read more

This review is for a pedicure only. I haven't used the other services. I had a male technician in the early fall who was very nice and conversational but unfortunately did a poor pedicure. The most notable thing was while clipping my cuticles, he clipped a big chunk out of my toe. Ouch! It bled and he had to use some kind of glue to seal it. I wasn't pleased. Additionally, once home it was clear to see the polish job was sloppy and looked cheap. Some of the nails didn't even have polish all the way to the cuticles making it look like my pedicure was already one week old. His hands seemed shaky the whole time. Maybe that's why. The spa has a gorgeous view - the only positive. But I won't be back. I've gotten way better pedicures at Indulge spa on east side. read more

Found it bizarre that the only salon in Madison that had availability insisted on taking a credit card to "hold" an appt. when I arrived for my appt I was shocked and grossed out by the foul smell and dirtiness of the "salon" . I felt uncomfortable . there was not a soul in the place. It looked like a dumpy locker room in an old gym with a couple of hair chairs and a sink thrown in. I immediately turned around and walked out. The salon had the gall to charge my credit card $110 . I am now in the process of fighting them through my credit card company. read more
