While visiting in Madison Wisconsin I "needed" a manicure and pedicure. The parking lot is large. After choosing a color my technician, Kim asked me very good questions. She has excellent English skills and quickly determined what I preferred. I am a question asker too. So as she began the process we had very comfortable conversation and a few giggles. All of my nails are polished to perfection. My dry heels are no more and the complimentary massage was heavenly. When I come back next year I will ask to see Ms. Kim again! read more

So i made an appointment and when I got there I didn't sit down to start my nails right away ( an appointment should start at the time it's set for) but whatever I didn't mind. There was a little miscommunication, by the end of it all my nails looked cute but when I went home I noted that the length of my nails didn't match one hand some were shorter then its pair on the other hand. whatever right I'll be the only one who would notice that. N Nails got done they came out pretty and I was like ok not bad I'll come back even though there were 3 problems n I'll make sure that it's done right from the length of the nails to the nail tech understanding me clearly!! However; I was wrong not even a full week n my nail ( power dip) started cracking and 8 out of 10 nails not just one or 2 at that. Finally two nails fully broke off.Now I will never go back and would not recommend!! Only reason they got 2 starts is because they were nice and my nails looked cute. The problems were fixable but after they cracked n broke in half badly I changed my mind they cracked and broke in the worse way possible. I get my nails done every 2 weeks and this has never happened before!!! 86.00 for bullshit waste of money and time. read more

I recently had a mani/pedi by Marcus and he did a great job. I'm originally from Los Angeles, so I was shocked to see how expensive it is to get your nails done out here in Wisconsin. I'm accustomed to paying $40 for a Mani/ Pedi combo and out here you can easily pay $40 simply for a manicure. With that said, the service was great, and Marcus was very talkative and friendly. I received the best foot scrub. My only critique would be that I wish he followed up with applying lotion to my legs and feet as well as lotioning and giving a massage to my hands after the manicure. They were both dry, and I couldn't apply any lotion until after the nail polish was set. I will definitely come back again! read more

My hairdresser recommended her nail guy to me here at La Vie Nails & Spa and boy am I glad she did!! I have been going to nail salons for 30 years and I truly have to say this is the best nail salon I have been to and I will tell you why!! Chi Son (Jason) is my nail tech and he is awesome! I have had a few male nail techs throughout the years and I prefer not to see men as they are not too friendly or detail oriented and always seem to rush through everything sloppily and the whole pampering experience is a no go. When my hairdresser set my appointment up for me I was bummed to hear that I would be seeing a man but I was afraid to cancel the appointment as she went out of her way to set up the appointment. Needless to say... I have already been to 6 appointments so far with Chi Son and I absolutely love the attention to detail and the pampering experience!! He is always up for a good chat and he is fine to let me just chill if I want to. I am always greeted with a smile from everyone welcoming me into the salon. For a first time manicure, I am still obsessed with how great my nails look post 1 week. My cousin and I were quickly accommodated as walk-ins. I could look past the equipment that needed some updating. Their nail rack has endless options but appears to be unorganized. In terms of cleanliness... I was a little skeptical here on how equipment is sterilized. This is where I docked 2 stars. Would I return? Potentially, given the circumstances. The walk-in accommodation and final product were positive factors. If you card, they charge you a $1 processing fee. No biggie. I didn't have the option to add the tip onto the card, but luckily I had cash to do so. read more

I went here today for the first time to get my nails done for graduation. I made an appointment well in advance, but still had to wait 20 minutes for anyone to help me. No big deal, I waited until a nail technician could get started. My nail technician was very respectful and patient, and listened to what shape acrylic nails I wanted. He did a great job and I'm really happy with them. The reason I docked a couple stars is because he didn't do ANY work on my cuticles, which clearly needed some attention. He didn't trim them or the dry skin around my nails. I rarely if ever get acrylic nails and for the price, I expected more, especially because now they look like they're already growing out. I would recommend this place, but make sure you request having cuticle work done, even though that's something that should be done without request at any decent nail salon. read more

This is long overdue! My best friend and I came here a few months ago to get our nails done for my wedding. Staff was friendly....and hilarious. They were very entertaining and definitely knew how to treat their customers well. Many customers came in that were obviously regulars were greeted immediately by first names with a smile. That's always nice to see from any place of business. Our pedicures felt amazing. We both had a shellac gel manicure; sheer pink for me and gray for her. The color selections were decent. The one who did my nails (can't remember his name) did a great job with listening to me about the length I wanted. Long nails drive me crazy and I can't type properly at work. My manicure lasted a few weeks, even through ocean water when we to Hawaii for our honeymoon right after. I got gel extensions with Marcus yesterday, and so far, so good! I was able to get an appointment within half an hour of when I called, and they were very helpful in accommodating the fact that I needed to leave by a certain time. My experience in the salon was good; Marcus was conversational but not overly pushy or chatty, which was nice because I tend to like to zone out when I'm getting my nails or hair done. He did a great job on my nails - made sure to clarify with me so he understood exactly what I wanted in terms of shape and length, and even complimented me on the color I picked. I could tell he was intent on getting them just right, too. He didn't rush, and a few times even paused to check that the length, shape, etc. were even and looked good. Called before lunch to get my nails done for vacation. I wasn't sure what type of manicure I wanted. The guy who answered the phone was very nice. Advised me on a few different options. I got an appointment about an hour after my phone call. Ended up getting a full set of acrylic nails. This was the first time I ever had acrylic nails. I typically go with a basic or gel manicure. When I arrived they had me pick out my color and I was ready for my appointment. I asked for a sparkle ombre accent nail. The nail tech did a fantastic job. I love the way they turned out. First visit to La Vie today with 2 friends. I got a mani/pedi from Teri and she did a terrific job! Very thorough with trimming cuticles and did a nice job squaring my nails to even lengths. I got the French manicure look and I think they look great! The shop looks clean and pretty basic; not fancy. They have enough stations to accommodate a small group & 3-4 people working this afternoon. This already puts them ahead of a day spa I tried in Fitchburg which could barely find the staff to do 2 mani/pedis at once. They have an impressive selection of color choices. The 2 other customers that came in while I was there were greeted by name so they obviously have regulars, which speaks well of the place. I will definitely go back! read more

Excellent service, kind staff. I read about this nail salon on yelp and decided to check it out. I got a French manicure gel/shellac and a pedicure for a great price. I highly recommend this nail salon. I made an appointment, arrived earlier than planned, and they fit me in with no problems. Wow! I flew into town for an event and since I was rushing I managed to break three nails (my real ones). Did I mention I had an event to attend! Well I checked out Yelp of course and saw the other reviews and decided to give them a try. I called and made an appointment (not required but I highly suggest it after being there). They were ready for me when I arrived. That gets one star to start. Did I mention my appt was for a mani/pedi. I felt I deserved it. They started with my Pedi and the spa chair was wonderful. The place is a bit dusty and small. But , don't let that bother you. It's all because they are Great and busy! For my mani, I decided to do Acrylics since I had broken mine. Best decision ever. Been going here for about five years. Today will be my last day there. First off, they double-booked me Saturday, and as I am going out the door I get a call that they cannot take me because the woman who they booked after me was already there. So they rescheduled me for today. When I arrived, no one greeted me. There appeared to be more technicians walking around than customers. After five minutes, someone filled up a tub for me and then walked away. As my feet are soaking in the tub, waiting for the pedicure to begin, a mother walked in with her daughter, pulled out some cash and gave it to a female tech who had walked by me several times without saying anything or even looking at me. I saw her pocket the money and asked her if she was going to help me and she said, "No, I am helping her," pointing to the young gal who walked in 10 minutes after I had. I waited another 10 minutes until one of the male techs walking around, who kept disappearing behind closed doors with a phone in his hand, finally sat down to help me. He said, "Hi," and that was the extent of our conversation. My feet were extremely sore from a sport I had just played and I was looking forward to the standard foot massage. I never got one. He rushed through the pedicure, never trimmed the dried cuticles, painted my nails and sent me on my way. I looked around and the two customers whose pedicures had started before mine were still getting foot massages. Felt really cheated and angry that I had to pay $41 for that rushed service. Certainly not the way you treat a loyal customer of five years. BTW ... his name was Jason. Do not ever let him give you a pedicure! read more

I am from out of town and needed a mani. This one is close to my hotel, although there are lots of options. I called and made an appointment. Arrived and they got me in on time. I did dip. The mani is fine. It was expensive though, $50 for dip. I have never paid that much in 3 states. They do not have towels of a cusion for your elbows as they work. Not a great assortment of dip colors although they did get me sparkles on top of the color I picked, for an additional $1. Their dip colors were hard to go through, they are not arranged well, the nails were not all facing the same direction and on ring had way too many on it. They also need to clean a little more, nail dust everywhere. Over all though they were very friendly and nice just expensive. read more

My best friend is cooler than your best friend! Why? because she skipped the traditional bachelorette party nonsense, and instead, her whole bridal party got pampered. I love pedicures. My nail tech was super. She spent a lot of time getting my nails perfect. And the leg rubdown was awesome! I had my first ever manicure here and it was sooo relaxing. My nails looked incredible! I did the french manicure, and it did not make me look like a hooker. It was extremely neat and very flattering. We should have investigated if they are byob or not. We didn't bring anything, but it'd be something to ask about. I mean, alcohol does make things entertaining, but the array of celebrity magazines kept me hooked. (Snooki's baby is actually cute!) I can't comment on the cost of said services, bc my friend paid for all of us. yup, she really is cooler than your bestie! read more

Jason is the bomb!!!! I love him. I live in PA now, but every time I'm back in Madison I make it a point to get a pedi and a fill there. I really miss Jason and the whole La Vie gang. This review is strictly for a pedicure. Average service and quality across the board. No one offered a place for my coat (in Madison, WI really?), she didn't bother to ask me if I wanted to leave a tip so they had to run my card twice (bc I guess they can't add it after fact) & they spring a whole $1 charge for using your credit card on you at the very end (no signage or warning of course which is total BS). Know that pedicure is $35 with no upsell "spa" options- $55 for gel ($20 more for gel, REALLY?!?!). The place is more reminiscent of a medical supply shop than a spa- not exactly tidy and very cluttered. Chair I was on didn't have working controls- had to leave it with auto. The massage was very ambivalent & she actually yawned while working on me. I especially can't stand it when they spend a nice 5 minutes on one leg then rush through the second leg in 2 minutes. If you are hoping to have a dry heel worked on and exfoliated- don't bother with this place. No real effort or bother- just a quick brush with the pumice stone. Bottom line- it was average and I definitely will try somewhere else next time. Plenty of options in area. Finally, I feel the need to vent about fellow customers and one of my biggest pet peeves. I'm somewhere where people come to relax. Is it really too much to ask that you shut your trap and keep your gum experience to yourself? I have a mother who is new to getting manicures and she needed to find a place on the East side. I checked the Yelp reviews and this spa seemed to have the best reviews for the side of town I was looking for. I booked a pedicure for me and a Mani for Mom on the Saturday before Easter. The wait when we got there was not too long. My staff member was nice and thoughtful. She was very thorough with my nail trim and buffing. I had been long overdue so my toes did hurt the next day but they feel great now...no more ingrown toenails. Several weeks later, my toes still look great. Mom's staff member was very nice to her. Mom's a chatterbox sometimes and the lady took her in stride. The Shellac Gel Manicure looks great. While trimming my mom's cuticles, the lady did nick my mom and caused some bleeding. The woman was very apologetic and did a nail design free of charge. My mom did not have an negative feelings regarding this and has since really enjoyed the color and design. The Shellac has held up very nicely. The Salon Spa itself is nothing fancy but I'm okay with that if the service is good. They take cards but cash is the preferred tender. I can handle that if I know ahead. So, I'm sure we will find ourselves back there again soon. read more

I stopped by with a friend on a Saturday afternoon and the place was quite busy. We thought this boded well so we made appointments for later in the day. However, when we returned, all the technicians were busy and our "appointments" were meaningless. We waited over half an hour and then had to leave as we had other plans. When we let them know we'd be heading out sans manicures, they were not pleased and insisted several times they could "get it done." One technician went so far as to offer to take both of us at the same time even though she had just started another woman's nails less than 10 minutes earlier. I do not go to get manicures to just "get it done" in like 10 minutes. I would do my own nails then. In fact, they could not have gotten it done that fast as we both wanted designs, not that anyone asked. I found this experience very disappointing as the prices were reasonable and the reviews favorable. I just cannot bring myself to support a shop where I felt like just a means to a paycheck. read more

Was my favorite, most-trusted place in Madison for mani/pedis...that was until f-bomb-dropping, tattoo-covered, let-me-ignore-my-client-and-talk-over-her-shoulder-to-another-client-in-the-waiting-area tech showed up. Oh, and did I mention her work is sub-par, too? Now I don't have anything against cursing. I've been known to say some things that would make sailors blush, but I certainly don't come to a nail salon expecting to hear "F-this" and "F'ing" that. Both times I've had her as my tech she's ignored me and talked over me at other clients and only paid attention to me when I gave her far too big a tip. She also has does crappy manicures: both traditional and shellac. I won't even start listing all the errors she made. She is my only complaint about La Vie. Everyone else there is very talented and very professional and there work has always been flawless and beautiful. I have already written a review for La Vie but after seeing them for a shellac manicure I have to write another. I have had my nails done a million times with shellac. Give it a week or a week and a half... Even two weeks. My nails would be lifting and bubbling and I would be pulling the shellac early. My nails grow out a little but they have never stayed as perfect as they did when I went to La Vie. They are still perfect. read more
