The large signs are all for the shaver/vacuum business, so look for the north door that says, "Blazing Star Ranch." The genesis of the business is the ranch in Elizabeth, Colorado where the owners have a herd of 60+ prize-winning alpacas. Much of the wool in the shop comes from this herd, but the owners seek out and represent other local and international craft yarn producers and dyers. Things are a little disorganized and the inventory is limited, but the yarns and raw wools are very unique and interesting. The shop also sells and services equipment for spinning and weaving and offers a roster of intensive classes. This is a very unusual shop, even for the yarn business. Don't let the strange location put you off. This is a great resource for anyone interested in quality yarn or spinning and weaving. Tours of the ranch are offered if you would like to meet the alpacas.

It's a store with a terrific selection of yarns at all different price points, it's a haven for knitters/crocheters of all skills. No matter what I'm working on, I can find help with a quick question from staff that are knowledgable AND friendly. If it's more involved, I can schedule a private tutorial. Or, they have fun classes as well. I've lost track of how many classes I've taken here -- all of them have stretched my knitting capabilities. On top of that, it's a beautifully laid-out store that sparks creativity. Yes, I might find some of the yarns for a couple dollars less online, but to see and hold those yarns and to sit at one of the tables to be in community with other knitters/crocheters and see what others are knitting cannot be replicated online. I came across Knitters Therapy last week. I had never visited the store or had even heard of them…read more- but now, I tell everyone about this locally owned gem! I was looking for a store that carried gems and maybe some jewelry. I was surprised because this store came up under "arts & crafts" which I do neither. In any case, I stopped in and instantly knew I was going to spend way too much time there. Upon entering I immediately noticed there was so much more than yarn and art supplies. I beelined straight for all of the jewelry. I was greeted by the owner, Shawna and her vicious guard dog, Tiny, the chihuahua. I spent over an hour asking so many questions about stones and their meanings, it was fascinating. Shawna did not seem to mind at all! I noticed they also have a lot of literature on Reiki, something I have heard about but never really looked into, so maybe that will be next. Shawna told me they offer knitting workshops too, it's definitely a knitters/artist like community. OK, back to the jewelry. They have charms, earrings, bracelets, necklaces and pendants both big and small. There is something for everyone. They have masculine pieces, feminine pieces and unisex pieces. The prices are extremely reasonable, especially the handmade pieces. They have pieces to fit anyone's budget. The handmade pendants are a work of art. They have very simple ones and very intricate ones. I purchased three items. The first is a small and simple blue, white, and black Jasper pendant, which I wear with a simple silver chain. The other two pieces I will treasure for a very long time. For myself I purchased a handmade pendant made of copper with moonstone and black tourmaline. I wore it out that night and received so many compliments on it, and people asked me so many questions about it! I purchased the other pendant for my friend who does not wear any jewelry but was blown away by the artistry and has always loved labradorite. He has not taken it off since I gave it to him! His pendant is also hand made with copper. What's interesting...these were the first two pieces I gravitated to - but still had to look at every piece in the store at least three times, but always came back to those pieces. Shawna told me about the different stone properties - and it just made too much sense why I gravitated to these pieces! Even if jewelry isn't your thing, or you aren't familiar with certain stones, knitting, or Reiki, I still recommend visiting this store. There is so much to look at, learn about, and admire. It is very accessible with plenty of free parking. I will definitely be back, perhaps after my next paycheck because I already made a list of what I want to purchase next! I took a class fromPatty and we were chatting about quilt customers. The conversation went along as I stated that in my years of operating a quilt store in Arizona that I only had one check bounce. That customer was is in my store with cash in her hand before I was even aware that her check had bounced. I also stated that quilters are a honest group of women. Patty stated that she had one check bounce. She also stated the ladies Name. That is so unprofessional. I took two Christmas quilts in before I left for a family reunion. I went over the details with Trish. It was a good four weeks when Trish called me to let me know that one of the quilts was completed and ready to pick up. Both quilts were identical, I thought that having the computer set up for one that the second one would be put on the machine next. When I picked up the first quilt I paid for both quilts. I was thinking that the second one would be next. I was so wrong. Trish had stated that she was going to have a procedure on for her knee and would be out for a few days. A few days turned into a week. My associate called me excited because her quilt was completed. Her quilt was taken in after I had taken my two quilts in. I called the shop and spoke to Trish who let me know that my second quilt would be going on next. Should be ready soon, after all she needed two full days to quilt my quilt. I called the shop again and was put off again. I had already paid in full to have the quilting done. I called and Patty answered in her sweet manner. I told her I was coming in and picking up my quilt. That I wanted a refund on top of it. I told her I would not say a word in the store. Which I did not open my mouth. I will not do anymore business with Fabric Play.
