I was at Left Coast Crime 2025 in Denver and I looked up yarn shops (because yarn and crime are a perfect match). The Yarn Shoppe Denver came up in my searches so me and a new-found friend from the convention decided to visit. This yarn shop is adorable and run by a wonderful black woman. Her husband finds all sorts of glorious vintage purses and accessories that are also sold in the shop. I loved the selection of hand dyed yarns as well as the well-known brands and I came home with far more yarn than I planned on! Definitely a must visit and I wish I lived closer! read more

TLDR: this place sucks go to Lamb Shoppe on 12th This was the worst store of any kind that I have ever been to its actually insane. The selection is terrible and it took me an hour to buy three skeins of yarn. Location: It is so hard to find and the door was locked when I got there even though they were open. Also for a small store it's bizarre that 1/3 of the space is devoted to vintage bags. Selection: So bad!!! For a store that prides itself on highlighting local yarn over half of their limited selection was acrylic crap you can get cheaper at Michaels. They only had about 10 types of yarn that weren't acrylic and only a few skeins of each. I only bought something because I had a gift card. Customer service: I'll preface that the girl that was working was very nice and she was doing the best she could and the following is not her fault at all. She didn't know how to wind the yarn and ended up making tangled mess of the first skein. I ended up helping her figure out how to use it to wind the others but it took about 30 minutes which is crazy. There were also issues with the square and the owner really should train people if she's not going to be there. I agree 100% with other low reviews and I'm sure the owner will leave a snarky reply on this like she did to all the others. Let me just say that being a locally owned business is challenging these days but it does not make you immune to criticism. Leaving rude comments on reviews that are written very respectfully is not a good look. There are other local yarn stores that seem to be able to run a legitimate business with a real store front and great selection (Lamb Shoppe on 12th is great and way cheaper) so you might want to listen to what people are saying. read more

The shop owner was welcoming, knowledgeable and very accommodating. She made recommendations that I was very happy with. I was introduced to Malabrigo yarn for the first time and I am hooked! I received a Gift Card for the holidays to this shop, and I was so excited to visit this adorable store, that I knew would be filled with colorful and squishy delights! I was greeted as I walked in, and the owner was so charismatic and helpful in steering me to the sections of yarn that would be suited for what I was looking for. She had great examples of the different yarns so I could touch them all and feel how they would work up for the projects I had in mind, but of course, you get me in front of all that beautiful squishy goodness and my mind starts running with all kinds of new projects I want to start. I decided to purchase a kit, which includes the pattern and I am over the moon with my selection. I of course saw all kinds of other goodies as I was leaving the store, so I will of course be back, and will bring my fiber friends with me! I would not recommend this shop. I went there with my family to buy yarn for two projects at 2 pm. She told my son she had locked herself out of her shop and her daughter would be by with the keys in 20 minutes. We waited outside in the heat and we specifically went there before we were catching a flight home. At 2:25, she shows up and I said is your daughter bringing the keys and she says no and my shop is closed. Now we have wasted 25 minutes, could not go to another yarn shop in the area because we had to get on a plane. The rudest thing was when she pointed and said my daughter works right over there. I have never been treated this rudely by a yarn shop owner in my life. We will not return. read more

When traveling to new places, I always look for shops that carry locally sourced/spun/dyed yarn. Yarn Shoppe Denver definitely meets (and exceeds!) my expectations. You won't find a huge variety of mainstream indie dyers, but will be delighted with the array of locally sourced, hand-dyed, hand-spun and hand-crafted items in addition to a few commercial yarn brands. In addition to yarn and alpaca fleece, there are hand-knit/crochet hats, scarves & shawls along with a variety of project bags, stitch markers and aprons. The cherry on top of this wonderful treat is the owner, Cassandra. Super-friendly, without being pushy, it is obvious she loves doing what she does! We stopped by for Yarn Along the Rockies (2012). The lady who was working (I assume the store owner) was so friendly and helpful. She is listed as a "yarn shoppe" but her selection of yarn is very limited. Instead, there are a lot of items made by other people on display and or sale here. She said that it's a more local way for people to make and display their goods instead of using Etsy. People can actually feel the items before they buy, which can be a big influence. I saw a coat/shawl that I just LOVED because it's so soft. Unfortunately, it was way out of my price range (justly so), so I didn't get it. I don't know if we'll be back much because parking was a nightmare, but if you are in the area and are looking for something unique for yourself or as a gift for others, check out this local small business. read more

As other reviewers have commented, this shop is a tiny hidden gem which is very accessible from the 16th Street Mall. I looked up 'yarn shops near me' while attending a conference downtown and was so pleased to see that she has a strong crocheting background. So many of these shops almost exclusively cater to the knitting crowd. Now, that being said, she has amazing knitting accessories as well. I liked the combination of local yarns as well as some brand name yarns. Cassandra was so pleasant to talk to as we chatted about our latest crocheting projects. This shop is small but mighty. Fiber oasis in the city! Somedays you just need a little fiber fix during the day. I love that it is in a historic building. It is on the fourth floor but there is an elevator. I usually take the stairs down because I love the woodwork and the marble floors. The shop has features local spinners, hand-dyed yarns, and some commercial yarns. There is a little something for everyone. The staff is so friendly, kind and knowledgable. I love that I am greeted as soon as I walked in the door.
