I recently used Eli the handyman for a small drywall texture repair job. It was probably the easiest job of the week. I believe when you hire a "professional" you should get professional service, workmanship, and a quality job well done. I received none of those qualities in a "professional" with Eli the handyman. It took two attempts to repair the drywall texture. The first attempt was a clear "cash grab" thanks for the money I'm out of here type of job. When Eli came back for a second attempt he was rude and unhappy he had to come back. I could go on, but will stop to say I will never use Eli the handyman service again and regret using them instead of a "professional". Eli was out to install a doggy door. I'm happy with the work. While he was out, we asked him to adjust a screen door and attach a pet guard to it. Eli was unable to get the door adjusted. He did drill 4 screws into the screen to attach the guard. We were charged $25 for the work he could not do and drilling of 4 screws. I had a friend adjust the door and it's working perfect now. I thought the $25 was excessive. This was my only complaint! great work other than the screen issue. read more

The guys did a great job at my house. I have a very large and heavy sliding glass door and they were able to remove it, replace the rollers and get it back in place without much hassle. If it were a year ago I would have given a 5 star rating for the work. A handy man came out to do several different jobs in one day. He was efficient. He also gave me a quote for items in the house we wanted to get done. Eli then came out a couple days later to quote the same items (slightly higher price than original). I was fine with that because I trusted their work. A year later when I wanted to get one of the items done; a ceiling fan installed, I emailed Patricia who I guess handles the appointments and asked for a new current price for the same item. I was okay that the prices were going to increase. I figured they would after a year but for her to even give me a quote she said to do that they would charge $75 just to come to look at the room that needed to have the fan installed for me to even obtain a quote. Why would I do that for a room you've already sent someone to see twice? We live ways out but last time she said since we were having multiple services they wouldn't charge that. I asked if when they sent someone could they do multiple services the same day to wave the fee. She decided not to honor. I guess they have enough customers that they don't need my multiple jobs in a day to make a trip out. read more

Scheduling went perfectly. The lady was very polite and informative. I received a call confirming my appointment. When the repair guy arrived he was rude and not very friendly. He was supposed to fix my sliding glass door but after 15 minutes of messing with it he decided he didn't know how to fix it. I noticed he has broken some pieces off the door and he quickly put the door in the hinge, jumped in his truck angrily and didn't say a word or provide me with any information. He also left a mess where he was working. He did try to sell me a new door for three times what I was quoted and seemed annoyed when I politely declined. I would not recommend this guy anyone. read more

I did not have a 5 star experience. I asked for a quote to replace a door. I told Eli I wanted a 78" door with some kind of a window. Didn't want a fancy one, could even be salvaged, my main goal was light. He sent $1000 quote! For a 76" door, not a 78", and it was $600 just for the door alone?!? Miscommunication #1? I said no to the door but we negotiated a price for a window and some electrical and scheduled the work. I was to get a receptacle where the wires came in from the main box. I didn't get it even after mentioning it to Rudy who did the work. Said he didn't hear me say it and it wasn't included in the stuff Eli gave him. Miscommunication #2. I told Rudy I was putting in a workspace with two 36" cabinets with ¾" vinyl covered plywood on top to make a countertop and asked that the receptacle boxes be hung at 37"-37 1/2" so my countertops would fit under them. He hung them at EXACTLY 36 3/4". Seriously???? Miscommunication #3. He should have known it would need clearance, right? I had to notch the new countertops to get them to fit. The rest of the work done was ok. But there is backing material showing where they plastered around the window and an ugly connection thingy on the wall instead of the matching receptacle I wanted but the receps are hung neat and even. To make up for the receptacle, he hooked up an existing circuit that had been closed off. Before he left, I plugged in a lamp there and it didn't work so he had to fix that. I had him put in a switch cuz the only one was in laundry room. I asked him to piggyback it and leave the switch in the laundry room but he removed it instead. I know it was last minute but I got mostly leftovers from his truck and the wall cover where he removed the switch...well, he just put a piece of tape over the now missing switch. I felt the additional price I paid for that work warranted a little more care. And there was quite a big mess left behind. I think they should have covered the furniture or asked me for an old blanket or something. And I found splotches and splatters out on my patio and on one of the newly painted cabinets that was a bit annoying. So with all the miscommunications and the final quality of the work, I probably would have only given it a 3 star rating. But that was only the beginning. Rudy replaced the breaker the dryer was on. Not what I was told would be done so another miscommunication!?! Went to do my laundry after they left and the dryer had no heat!. We did some research on the internet which pointed to a blown fuse in the dryer. The parts were cheap enough and it seemed so logical that working on the breaker could have caused the fuse to blow that we decided to just wait for the parts and installed them. But still no heat! I contacted Eli to let him know. His response was "What we did was correct". Um, what? How does he know that without even looking? I told him we felt it was just too much of a coincidence that the day they work on the breaker, the dryer stops working. He said yeah big coincidence and all but the dryer runs so not our problem. Check your heating element. Seriously? We called an appliance repairman who said the dryer was fine. The motor runs on 120 but the heating element needs 240 and it wasn't getting it. My son called Eli and after some more denials he finally agreed to send Rudy back out. Guess what? One of the wires was not properly connected to the breaker and it WAS their fault! The bottom line is the way Eli handled this was totally wrong. People are human and make mistakes. It could have been a bad breaker or any number of things, including not their fault but you can't deny it's your fault unless you've determined it's not your fault. Eli's first response should have been Oh, sorry to hear that. Let me send Rudy back out to be sure it's not something we did. Then if it wasn't, we would have paid them to fix whatever it was and undoubtedly called them for other jobs. Instead they've lost a customer cuz this left a bad taste in my mouth for future dealings. We never got an apology and I certainly didn't get payback on the $60 I had to pay the appliance guy to prove it was their fault. I tried to give at least 3.5 stars but couldn't. I am upset enough I wanted to make it a 1 or 2 but can't do that either. The work was better than that and Rudy did make an effort toward making it right (although, he made quite a few disparaging remarks about Eli and the appliance guy, which I found inappropriate). Maybe Eli just made a mistake, too, or was having a bad day that day. So I'm sticking with what I would have given the work itself, without all the miscommunications, etc. They need to work on their communication skills and listen to the customer. And I needed to make sure EVERYTHING we talked about and expected to have done was in writing...with details. I debated whether to post this or not but today I went to use the new after-thought receptacle and guess what? It doesn't work!!!!! read more

The house we recently purchased has a range top microwave/hood that is configured to be recirculating air. We wanted to direct the air outside of the house. Eli The Handyman gave me a quote over the phone, and confirmed it after I emailed them some pictures. He was more than willing to work with my schedule and add me at the last second, after he had a Saturday cancellation. His mission: install our new cat door. It was something he could do, so I was happy. On appt. day, he was early (yes!), and in and out in less than 45 minutes. He did it for a great price as well. this is the second time I've used their services and I've been very happy with both. First time was for a new kitchen sink and garbage disposal. I had Vladimir come out and he was wonderful. He even showed me some tricks on how to keep the disposal running smoothly (which I appreciated). The second time was recently and I had two ceiling fans installed. Eli & Vladimir came again and they were PROMPT (which I love). My ceilings, turned out, were concrete and couldn't be opened for electricity so they came up with a wonderful solution and it looks amazing. My initial experience with this vendor/service when Eli himself showed up was great - ergo the 5 star review. On a subsequent visit a year later to replace a couple of doorknobs and bathroom hardware (this set which included a towel bar, towel ring & toilet paper holder - https://tinyurl.com/ydfr2224 ), I was quoted $35 for the doorknobs and around $25 for the bathroom HW via email and given previous good service and pricing, agreed. They sent a subcontractor out who was clearly paid hourly and who said he was told to charged $25 *a piece* for the bathroom HW - $75 to install all three pieces which took no more than 15 minutes per bathroom - which amounted to $225 for less than an hours worth of light unskilled labor for the BR hardware alone which was ridiculous. I work from home and didn't have time to dispute the matter so just paid. When I complained afterwards, I was told their normal charge was $30 per piece for bath HW and $25 was a discounted price but gave a credit towards future work because the pricing wasn't specified ahead of time. I used them one more time just to use up the credit but the whole experience soured me. I forgot to write a follow up until writing a positive one for a different service today... read more

He removed the door, shaved off a portion from the bottom, added a shim under the threshhold to raise it up, and rehung the door. It now works perfectly!! Eli did work for my Mother and the whole experience was very frustrating and she was horribly overcharged. He was there to install some plumbing fixtures which did go okay but, he tossed in the trash a part that is needed to do adjustments. He installed two toilets and neither one of them are level which we had to point out to him. He then explained why they were off and what would of been needed to make them level but, only after we pointed this out to him after he installed them. You would think He would of done that before they were installed. He was to paint a small bathroom. My Mom indicated to him that she couldn't get a paint colored matched at Home Depot but, he said he would have it matched. I don't understand why he thought the result of the paint would be different and she ended up with a pink bathroom as a result even after we told him to stop. Both Eli and his un-experienced assistant (his words, not mine) said it would look different when it dried but, it did not. The other problem with the paint was he didn't take the time to fix a bubbled ceiling and painted over it. When we pointed this out after the bathroom had been painted he did attempt to fix but, discovered there was a current leak, not an old one like we had thought. If he would of done this prior to the paint job we wouldn't have to repaint the whole bathroom again now after the Plumber fixed the leak. Last, he tiled this small bathroom and it was so bad of a job with tile and cuts being crooked it look as if a two year had done it. He ruined the walls that now have to be repaired because he put cut tile as baseboards and then put grout on top which looked horrible and on the newly painted walls. They pieces were all uneven too. Now he did send out his tile person a week later to rip up and fix and it now looks awesome. Since the first tile was not available anymore we went out and purchased a different smaller tile and the Man he sent was very knowledgeable and laid out patterns to be approved prior to install, used spacers like he was suppose too and made clean cuts. Eli never did any of this. Eli never even called to make sure my Mom was happy with the tile she had to call him. Needless to say we bought the tile both times and ripped up the original tile too. Eli charged her $465 to do 30 sq ft. where as competitive pricing with real tile companies would of been have of that. Plus, they didn't clean the tile the first time when they laid and my 78 year old mother had too. They have only offered to compensate my Mom back $80 - unbelievable. The paint job should be reimbursed and the tile should be reimbursed as well as the rate on laying the tile. Now we have to hire somebody to come out and finish what they started. read more

From start to finish, Eli was a professional. He showed up on time for the assessment/quote. I had explained to him that I bought a house from 1954 that had alot of the original detail still intact and any work I wanted him to do, I wanted it to fit in with the rest of the house. I requested 2 ceiling fans to be installed, one of my outlets to be changed from a 2-prong to a 3-prong as we planned to move our fridge, needed a light switch fixed, repair the sink drains in the bathrooms, put up a wall to cover an unneeded doorway, and have him assess a leak in our master shower. He said nothing would be a problem and gave us a very reasonable quote. He returned in a month (per my request) to complete the repairs. He, and a team of 2 other guys, showed up on time. They didn't seem bothered by all my questions about the work they were doing and possible future work. Everyone was very professional. They were able to complete all of the work within 6 hours, even doing more work than I had thought they'd do. They even put in new bathroom faucets, that I had purchased. When they were finished, they left absolutely no mess. It was awesome! The final invoice came out to exactly the quoted amount. We were thrilled! The master shower didn't get fixed but we did find the problem and plan to have Eli come back out to finish the job. He even recommended a local place where I could possibly find the vintage tile needed for the shower. I can't say enough great things about Eli and his team. I called Eli the handyman to help us out with some odd jobs towards the end of our remodel. They sent out Dana to do our repairs. I had him do things like install new light fixtures indoors and out, patch drywall holes, install a new kitchen faucet, and put knobs on our cabinets, along with many other small tasks. Patricia in the office was very friendly and customer service-oriented. She sent Dana out as soon as possible with little notice on my part. Dana was professional through and through. He was EARLY, and had a great attitude. He worked extremely efficiently and did a phenomenal job! He is also very customer service-oriented, and told us that he appreciated our business. He is also courteous of his surroundings and took care to clean up and not to scratch anything while working. He was very knowledgeable about how to do any home repair task. The rates were also very reasonable, especially for the amount of work that he did. We are perfectionists and we are so satisfied with Dana's work.
