Dr. Kats has been my Dentist for years. I think she is great. I see her at her Jackson Heights location. If you know me, you know that my life can be like a movie. Dr. Kats has quietly made sure that when I show the smile that my clients and loved ones enjoy, that it includes my teeth. I have represented Dentists with "celebrity practices" that have bells and whistles and social media and who are very good. I love those people, but this is my Dentist. She isn't trying to sell products and get you for your money in my experience. She is diligent, she is fair. I have seen some of the reviews here about having to wait in a waiting room (wow), scheduling errors in connection with third party apps (I schedule directly with the office and not only have I never had an issue, they call to confirm and they have called me to tell me to come in when a specialist I needed to see happened to be on another case. These are all recent experiences. The staff has always been nothing but nice to me. I have never been rushed out of the seat. Sometimes that means someone else has to wait. When I have waited, I remember that. Just saying. No one wants a Dentist who doesn't give you the relief you need because she or he has another appointment. Still great. read more

I am a new patient of Elina's, went for a checkup and cleaning. It was easy to schedule my appointment and the Doc was available only a few days away from my call. Waiting time was minimal with a few people leaving, coming in, and waiting, so, kudos to the scheduling professional! Staff was friendly and attentive. Elina did the cleaning herself. I have been a patient of Dr. Elina Kats since 2016. The excellent care provided me ranges from cleaning to dental procedures. Dr. Kats has always explained in detail what to expect, and any level of possible discomfort has been addressed. She constantly 'checks in' during any treatment to ensure my comfort is ok, taking a break if at all necessary. I have recommended several friends and neighbors to her office and will continue to do so as I am very confident in her professionalism and enjoy her very cheerful bright personality. Because of the insurance change, I was forced to look for a new dentist. I found Dr. Kats through Zocdoc where the rating is extremely impressive, and thus I scheduled an appointment at her Manhattan office confidently. However, I really regret having made this decision. Initially, the receptionist was friendly and attentive during my 1st visit. However, she presented with a very nasty attitude, also short tempered over the phone after I mentioned I might have to relocate the service elsewhere. It is really hard to book an appointment and everytime I called the office, she would ask my name for a second time in a mean and passive manner after I introduced myself, which made me wonder I might owe her some money. Please hire someone with enough respect and courtesy. I wish I could give a zero or negative star for the rude receptionist. More frustrating part is that it took 5 phone calls/3 times to request my mouth X-ray being sent via email. She stated she had sent the X-ray twice but I never received it. It was after I almost lost my patience and explained I was having sharp pain, she finally sent it to me. It should be a really simple action to send an email. Didn't feel my entitled patient rights under HIPPA law. Otherwise I would have to wait for 3 other days with severe and unbearable pain. Really disappointing experience. Dr. Kats is easy to talk with and has a good personality. However, she did not explain that I had a cavity after the X-ray was taken, and instead directly gave me the filling procedure. I suffered from biting pain and sensitivity afterwards. This is the 1st time that I felt this kind of pain after the filling, so I had to go back for a further treatment. I had to commute to the office in Queens because she will not be in the Manhattan office for another 3 weeks. The biting pain was addressed to some degree, yet the sensitivity remains. In addition, the dental cleaning process was a bit harsh. While the floss being dragged in and out, my gum was bleeding at the moment, and I am concerned it might damage the enamel. My other teeth became sensitive to hot and cold food. Today I was told by my new dentist that I have 2 small cavities in my molar. Hard to believe this was not found by Dr. Kats given my X-ray taken in July this year. If you want to take better care of your teeth, please go somewhere else. read more

I came in with a toothache and it turned out I needed a root canal. Let me start by telling you, I hate the dentist because well I've always had a fear of them and I'm really embarrassed by the fact that I didn't take care of my teeth the way, I should have; also I have never had a root canal and I heard they were painful so i was worried. But never fear because Dr.Kats is there to save you and your teeth!! Dr.Kats was amazing!!! Not only did she put me at ease and explain to me what she was going to do and what was going on with my teeth, the root canal was almost literally painless and super quick!!! When she went to numb me with the needle after putting the topical on my tooth, I was bracing for pain and then a minute later she asks me how it was and I ask her how was what? She said the shot. I was stunned, I hadn't even realized she gave me the shot! The rest of the procedure went just like that, almost painless, aside from the 1minute when she was near my infected nerve, which didn't last very long. It was such a pleasant surprise and comforting to have a dentist who was not only knowledgeable but kind and gentle. While Dental work is never fun, I'm actually looking forward to getting the rest of the dental work I've been putting off done with Dr.Kats!!! While the building is older, they still have all of the stuff you'd want at your dental office to reassure you that you will be taken good care of!!! Highly recommend Dr.Kats!! Dr. Kats is fantastic - I came in with a major toothache after years of neglect and as expected I needed a root canal. I was terrified and dreading it all but she held my hand through the whole process, numbed me up and made sure I felt okay. I honestly didn't feel anything during the procedure, she was incredibly thorough and the tooth felt amazing afterwards - no pain and I could drink cold water again! Next up was the crown - got fitted three weeks after the root canal and within a week after that, I have my bite back! Now that I have the main problem fixed I'm going back to fix the rest of the damage in my teeth but I'm not as nervous anymore and know I'm in good hands. The staff is also great, all I had to do was give my insurance card and they made sure to cover the rest. They're also very courteous and give you a reminder the day before your appointment which is much appreciated. read more

Scheduling issues include ZocDoc not syncing up with their system, and appointments moved without notice. This corner office buzzes you in when you arrive for your visit an when you leave (leaving the door open in summer sometimes serves as the A/C), and offers corny Target giftcards for referrals. The main reason I ended up here was their proximity, acceptance of MetLife, and their presence on ZocDoc (& appointment availability). I do agree with others that the cleaning was the shortest I've ever had (5 dentists over my lifetime), but otherwise the experience here was just fine. The waiting room setup is 2 folding chairs, 4 uncomfortable non-folding chairs, and a double-door entry to the restroom near a tiny coat rack. on my first 2 visits, I was seen about on time, but on the third they clearly overbooked and had forgot about my appointment made in person 9 days earlier -- they handled it properly and saw me. There's a $75 minimum for cards that's not enforced, but it is for $10 or less*. read more

Dr. Kats is a wonderful dentist. I actually followed her from a previous location because I thought she was very proficient: she's thorough in her work, does not try to upsell services, and has stellar bedside manners. Also, Yajaira who works in the office is the sweetest! I had soo many questions when I first went to this office and she exhibited a large amount of patience and was gracious enough to go over explanations more than once. This was a sloppy, lazy dental cleaning. First, I had to wait an hour past my appointment time before the dentist was ready to see me. Then during the cleaning, she hurriedly polished just some of my teeth, not even both sides. Also, she was rushing to floss me and the thread broke between my teeth and a piece of it remained stuck. Then the Dentist did the cleaning and she was kind of in a rush so it felt like we were in an assembly line. Too many patients, not enough love and care. I have to be honest.... I hate going to the dentist but Dr. Kats knows what she is doing. She is so sweet and makes you comfortable from the time you walk in. I never felt uncomfortable and would recommend her to anyone. Her office is clean which is a HUgE thing for me cause as I sit in the chair looking at the ceiling.... She devised a treatment plan taking both my teeth and insurance into account, getting the most urgent work done first. Good Dentist. She is very nice. However, the waiting time is too long. I came in during my appointment expecting to be called within 30 minutes. I ended up having to wait for more than 90 minutes. They schedule too many people for the same time and we all end up wasting our time. This honestly needs to change. I recommend to go look for another dentist that actually sticks by the appointments they give you and not one that has no regard toward timing. read more

Most frustrating experience with any dentist/doctors at this office. Dr. Kats' online reviews were average and not horrendous so I went to see her. After extensive dental work I made several calls and email to have Dr. Kats call me to discuss further dental work and out of pocket expenses. She have not contacted me so far so I have to find another dentist in the midst of treatment. I can only guess she is incredibly insensitive to patients needs and don't care about them. Also I wanted to speak to the technician who submits dental claims to insurance because of a delay in getting approval. The receptionist said the technician speaks Russian only. I thought how can a Russian-only technician work on dental claims so I insists that I speak to her. The technician spoke good English. The receptionist did not have to lie with such a petty stuff and this is another example of how this office is dysfunctional and insensitive to patients. Each time I called the receptionist to find out insurance approval she said 'wait'. Out of frustration I checked with insurance co and learned that dental request was denied more than a month ago. Each time I called to speak to the dentist receptionist said the dentist is busy.That attitude make me I feel like I am not a patient but a pest who is bothering the dentist. I will never go back to this office which makes you feel small and insignificant. read more

I went to Dr. Kats office for a 1 PM appointment and it was 2:30 and I had still not been seen or given an explanation for the delay. Needless to say that after waiting for 1.5 hours, I left and didn't see the doctor. The front desk receptionist was very pleasant but obviously this doctor has no respect for her patients or potentially new patient's time. This office is in lower middle class neighborhood and many use Medicaid as an insurance. My feeling is that many doctors, including this one, see these type of patients as people of low value since they are from a poor community and hence feel entitled to disrespect their time without consideration that on many instances, a lot of these patients must attend to other responsibilities such as child caring. The doctor didn't even acknowledge I was there sitting for 1.5 hours waiting to be seen but I am confident she would have felt disrespected had I been an hour late to my appointment. Unfortunately, nowadays many doctors carry themselves with a feeling of superiority without clearly understanding they are not doing patients a favor but instead charging for a service. What a difference a neighborhood makes. My last dentist had his office, now closed, in the Upper East side and hardly I ever did wait past my appointment time to been seen. When your patients are lawyers, engineers and mostly professionals, somehow that gives the impression to a lot of these health care professionals that the time of their patients is also valuable and therefore the treatment is usually different.
