Eli's BBQ - Findlay was on our short list on a recent trip to OTR Cincinnati. My first comment if you are looking for them is that they have very little outside signage. We had a difficult time finding the storefront. They have a pig on the window - good indicator - but you are more likely to find them by smelling the BBQ than noticing the sign. At this point it is pick up with no indoor dining. There is always room outside at Findlay Market to sit and eat but we were headed back to our Airbnb to enjoy our lunch in the air conditioning. We got pulled pork sandwiches and ribs. The pulled pork sandwiches were big and stuffed full of perfectly smoked pork. The meat was lean, well seasoned and did I mention perfectly smoked! The ribs were probably the star of the show. They were incredible. Their dry rub covered a juicy, tender rib that everyone in our group raved about. We didn't get sides this trip. We concentrated on their meat and we would all come back to Eli's BBQ - Findlay. We will be curious next trip to see if any changes have been made with signage or if OTR's best little secret is still discretely turning out delicious BBQ with just a pig to denote the location. read more

Small little place with great bbq. Both turkey and pork options were amazing. I tried the sides of Mac n cheese, beans, mashed potatoes and jalapeño grits. They were just average sides I'd say. Food came out pretty quick with decent portions. I'd recommend the bbq meat for sure though! read more

Eli's BBQ is what BBQ dreams are made of. I've actually never been a huge fan of BBQ, but Eli's made me a believer. This location, located at Findlay Market has a bit more limited hours, but is great for the weekends and when you find yourself downtown during the week (mostly during normal business hours). I would recommend their location on the Eastside for dinner hours and more seating! The BBQ is all fantastic, but if you're asking me... The jalapeño cornbread is the real MVP. The other sides are pretty standard BBQ fare (Mac n cheese, grits, slaw). It's pretty cool- you can event find Eli's products at Kroger now (near the prepared foods/deli counter), though the prices seemed a little high (like higher than the actual restaurant). Eli's continues to be an amazing bbq joint that has been delivering the same crowd favorite menu items for years. This location at Findley is convenient for pick up, but far less charming than the original Riverside one. The food is also not as good, as I believe they are bringing most meats in and just warm it up. The main smokers are at the riverside location. Even with these limitations, the food is still way above average. My all time fav is the pulled pork sandwich. They make their sauce themselves, I like it on a side to control how much I put on. I hate to kill the smoky flavor of the pork with the sauce! I usually take a side of mashed potatoes and a slaw or beans. That makes for a veryyyy generously portioned and very affordable meal. I must warn that all food is on the salty side, from the meat, to the mash, to the slaw. Be careful if you need to control your sodium intake. This is the best cheat meal you can get! I like to take it away and go straight to one of the nearby parks to enjoy outdoor. That's how I like my bbq, with a byob and a view on some trees and grass! read more

This newest brick/mortar (literally exposed brick and mortar) Eli's BBQ location is open and serving up delicious Carolina style pulled pork, ribs, smoked turkey, and BBQ dogs along side some great side dishes. If you're familiar with Eli's on Riverside's menu, it's the same. But no mention of BBQ for Reds tickets. It is stressed that this location is carry-out only, though there are two picnic tables there, and if you sit down and food just happens to fall into your mouth, hey, these things happen. In the summer, the Findlay Bier Garten will be open right out front with plenty of seating and tables, as well as occasional live music performances. Alright, Eli! So right off the bat I'll just preface this: I love Eli's, both locations serve up the best BBQ in the city, hell some of the best food in the city. See my review of the Riverside location if you want more details on the food. Now that that's over with lets talk about what makes this location different, or in some ways not so different. First: the setting. Findlay market is the perfect place for a business like Eli's. Laid back, slow and cool, hipstery (if you want to be a dick about it). The outdoor seating, late night beer garden events, and local focus match the laid back vibe that's as much a part of Eli's as the ribs are. Second: cash only. Wait I thought we were talking about differences? Nah sorry, there aren't very many. It's the same great food, dope environment, just in a new location. Unfortunately this spot is wildly inconvenient as well and makes you pay cash or check. Why? It's 2015, the fruit vendors outside take credit cards, the damn Girl Scouts take credit cards for cookies. You're trying to run a business that doesn't. Why? Third: the wait. Even at 5pm on a Thursday, with literally NO ONE else in front and an estimated 15 minutes, my takeout order of 1 single platter (sandwich, 2 sides) took 25 minutes. That's pretty ridiculous, right? It's barbecue, it shouldn't take 25 minutes to put together a catering tray, let alone a single plate in an empty restaurant. But that 25 minute wait, that change jingling in my pocket after breaking a 20? Totally worth it, because this barbecue is worthy of being a destination in and of itself. Let me start by saying I love BBQ. I research it, I smoke it, I cook it and I seek it out everywhere I travel. I have had ribs in St. Louis and Kansas City, as well as many others, but Elis ribs are my absolute favorite. Walking into Elis at the Findlay Market is more than a treat. The smoke smell inside is heavenly Ribs are ordered by the number of bones you want, I live an entire state away so I definitely need an entire rack every visit At first glance the ribs look slightly dry, but that's an optical illusion! They are smoked to perfection and show up dark with a nice gritty layer of seasoning and they are not pink anywhere. They have a brown sugar rub or treatment at some point that gives the ribs an addicting flavor that makes them hard to stop eating. Pair that with the simple BBQ sauce and your taste buds will thank you. The pulled pork is delicious, I have family that love it more than any other BBQ. I'm also a huge fan of the smoked turkey with slaw sandwich, hard to find better smoked turkey. I can't say enough about Elis, it's one of my favorite restaurants! read more

Our son who lives in Cincy took us to Eli's. I ordered the smoked turkey sandwich along with a side of jalapeño grits. The turkey was some of the best turkey I've ever had. It was smoked & seasoned beautifully. The house bbq sauce was mighty tasty. It was a sweet, tangy, rich sauce. The jalapeño grits were unbelievable. Nice people that I interacted with. It was a busy late lunch rush. There were no ribs for some reason. We ordered 2 pulled pork sandwiches and 2 hot dogs. The pork was strangely acidic and vinegary and still tasted strange even with sauce on it. The beans also weren't up to par. The first time I had them after an event, the second time I order a pulled pork sandwich from door dash, and then again now. I was at the kitchen working and got hungry and started craving BBQ. What better than Eli's. Eli's is in walking distance from Findlay Kitchen and located in Findlay Market. I decided to order a Smoked Turkey Sandwich, Mac&Cheese and Baked Beans. The sandwich had some bbq sauce and slaw on the side. The sandwich was very good! The Turkey was flavorful and tender. It was delicious and hit the spot. The bbq sauce and slaw was the cherry on top. I was a little nervous at first ordering the Turkey because we all know sometimes Turkey can be dry. However, this was not the case. The Mac& Cheese needed a little work. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't my idea of a great Mac&Cheese. It needed a little more flavor and the cheese seemed more wet/runny. I like thick Mac&cheese. The cheese was a little to thin for me. I gave them a chance time and time again in just a or 3 month period to totally blow my foodie taste bud out of flyin pig heaven. After ( being a chef & caterer myself) the inconsistency, store bought slaw, celery salt seasoned reg bbq sauce and the blackened crispy bark like unchewable rib tips I've ever had. I thow in the vinegar soaked sop mop. I actually had high hopes and thought id give them another try but only to have the manager try to convince me the amount was based on the tip size. Mind you they've already issued, to my surprise, an E gift card before due to this same issue. He said he wanted to make the guest happy. Yet he hadn't knew of my visit(6 times previously and this being the 3rd after the beginnings of my heart filled demise) when my order was as lite as a $10.00 feather serving of tips. As a fellow foodie and supporter of the gentrfied OTR restaurants, bar, nearly 50 yrs of sweat/tears and lifelong resident, I'm so nolonger a new fan. Eli's is pricey - but I think it's worth it. The rib tips are my go to. $9 and it comes with two sauces and a small ass coleslaw. It's more food than it seems, I can eat it all in one sitting, but my friends always have leftovers for lunch. It's smokey and great quality. read more

I was overjoyed to see that Eli's was still open for both takeout and delivery options during COVID-19! When I crave BBQ, I think of Eli's. Each time I'm able to stop in the area, Eli's is on the list. The best part, was that this time, I was able to expose my boyfriend to the yumminess too! I've had a number of dishes from Eli's - you really can't go wrong! I recently tried to turkey sandwich and LOVED it. I'm kinda of one of those situational red meat eaters, and although everything is great, I was excited to see turkey on the menu. For just $4, you can pair any meat with 2 sides. What a deal. The mac and cheese is out of this world. If you're lactose intolerant like me, so worth taking a Lactaid for this. The cole slaw is great too - it's definitely unique compared to others I've had. I'm always in the mood for BBQ, so this place sounded perfect for lunch. It was a Tuesday around noon and there was no line. But this is a small place and could fill up fast. Having never been here, we definitely wanted to try more than one meat. They have a pretty limited menu and no combo platter. We decided to order two ribs (you can order 2, 4, 6, 8) as a platter (with two sides) and a pulled pork sandwich. We chose coleslaw and jalapeño cheddar grits as our sides. Obviously, the ribs stole the show. They were the most tender dry rub ribs I've managed to find anywhere. They also had great flavor. I appreciated that they actually gave us three ribs instead of two because one of them was particularly small. The slaw and grits were good. The pulled pork was fine. So this is my second try at this place. Much better than the first time. The ribs are delicious, but again the pulled pork was not juicy and I love their potato concept (they brown mashed potatoes on the flat top) but the were on the salty side. Eli's is simply good bbq. It is not a show off, overpriced place, but rather an easy, take it for a picnic, type place. Going to the Eli's BBQ in Findlay's Market, there were so many orders for carryout, I can definitely imagine people sitting out on their patios with this food. I had the ribs and they were tender and satisfying. Four ribs with a side of macaroni and cheese was more than enough for me. I like that you can order them in increments so you can split a bigger order, not just half rack or whole rack. Service isn't bad and the food comes rather promptly. The space is a carry out environment but they don't seem to bat an eye to those who stick around to eat. I like to bring visitors here to see the market and we always stop here to eat. read more

We were looking for something around Findlay Market, but didn't want to eat inside of the market. So, I found this place that runs parallel with FM. There isn't any signage on the outside that tells you that it's Eli's, other than a pig logo. I guess that's all they need, because the house was packed. Luckily, the only line was people waiting on their food, along the righthand side of the place. We placed our order and then scored a seat at one of the few family style tables. The people across from us were scarfing ribs, no sides. I was immediately regretting my decision of ordering a pulled pork sandwich and two sides. I wanted those ribs too. Oh well, more reason to return. Yes, Eli's is small, but the meal wasn't. The pulled pork sandwich had so much meat on it, that there was no way that the bun could contain it. I ate half of the sandwich and then pulled away the bun. even after I ate half of the sandwich, the amount of meat still filled the larger portion of the platted container. As my sides, I chose mac and cheese and baked beans. The mac and cheese was some of the cheesiest that I've ever eaten, but was a tad under the warm temperature that I enjoy. The beans had a unique flavor, but I still enjoyed them. I've just recently started a quest to branch out and give BBQ joints a try. What I've experienced, is that they have to go big, or go home. If you walk away from a BBQ joint, not being totally stuffed, then they didn't do it right. This place did it. Pulled Pork was dry, buns were grilled to the point of being burnt and not just a little, the Mac and Cheese was really cheesey-more like cheese soup with some pasta thrown in for texture, and grits were also dry - like they were scooped in the little to go cup in the morning. This location doesn't appear to have the same quality standards anymore or like the original location. I have visited this location multiple times and it gets a little worse each time. Maybe it's because I go at the end of their day for dinner and it's primarily a lunch place? Shame because it is close to my house and I wish I could have a more consistent experience with this location. Might have to visit Lucius Q more for my quick BBQ fix. read more

I've been to Findlay Market countless times and Eli's has had a little pop-up stand for a while. I was extremely excited to hear that they had bought a storefront and now I've finally had the chance to stop by for a late lunch. Their pulled pork never disappoints and all of their sides are excellent as well. A $5 sandwich fills me up and having any more than a bite or two of the sides typically tests the elasticity of my waistband. This little shop at Findlay is more than worth stopping in. They're open even when the market isn't, which is great for those nearby. If you're going on a day the market is open, go in and order your food first and then walk around a bit. They have buzzers they'll give you that extend pretty far. Depending on how busy they are, the food can take a while but it's definitely worth the wait. read more
