This a very nostalgic place for me, I had the pleasure of stopping back thru while I was in the area. I got their turkey tips and they were just as good as I remember. Bbq sauce is authentic, I left a pin in their map! great vibes and service.

My experience was great here. I was in town for a marathon and needed something somewhat clean but good taste and good portions. First, the place is small and not the best for large parties or really eating in, but dine in is available. All of your food will come in to go style( packaged and bagged) the menu. I decided to stop in because not to many places offer smoked turkey tips! The turkey tips were amazing. Full of flavor NO SAUCE NEEDED as a bbq spot should be. I also had the smoked salmon, which was ok. The sides I had were the greens cabbage mixed, which were tender and seasoned. With such a good experience for my tastebuds, I had an even better experience having a life conversation with the owner. Just hearing his background and getting his views on life made me a fan of his brand as a whole. Whenever I'm in the area, I'll definitely stop in for good food and vibes.

Order from Alaba Que after trying different bbq places. Had high expectations but I wasn't to impressed. We ordered turkey tips, pulled chicken, and a side of green beans. Pulled chicken wasn't soft and yummy, it was dry and lacked flavor. The turkey tips were well seasoned though. The greens were decent but not the best. Portions were smaller than expected but the main thing for me was the pulled chicken. Not sure if I would give it another shot.

Was in town for the Cincinnati Music Fest. The Food is absolutely delicious! Was a little skeptical because of the mixed reviews but let me tell you, the food and service were on point! Delicious! The best potato salad besides mine!

Hands down the best place on Short Vine. If you're craving some authentic BBQ, Alabama Que is the place to go. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with the best staff. The owner, The Boss, The Man, Dwan is the nicest person ever. The menu is packed with classic BBQ favorites! The secret menu item, purple rain, crafted by Panda is quite tasty. I highly recommend this place!

Recommended. This is a must-visit near UC campus for several reasons. First, the turkey tips were terrific. If you're like me, you probably go to a BBQ place to order brisket or pork. They've got it and I imagine it's good. But I hadn't had turkey tips, the healthier option, before. When I met the owner, he recommended them as a top seller. I see why. And the sauce has heat options; I found the MEDIUM sauce had the right heat for me. The Mac&Cheese was great, too. The icing on the cake was talking with the owner and staff; thoughtful people that I liked doing business with. I felt respected -- and full of delicious BBQ. I'll be back.

We walked down here from a local hotel. The area isn't the nicest, but no troubles. When we stepped into the place, the first thing that jumped out is that it isn't really a sit-down type restaurant. There is a bar area where you can eat in if you want - maybe 10 seats - but it seems that most of the business is take out. There is a patio outside where maybe there is more seating in better weather, but we were there in the winter. While waiting to order, a nice local customer came in behind us and started giving my group of seven food recommendations. Foodies know that listening to locals is usually a plan for success, so we did. This lady said to try the sides especially the string beans (tender, leaning towards mush and with a lot of tomato flavor and a little heat) and mac n' cheese. We pushed a little more and she said to try the soul roll and that was a real gem of a recommendation. You get an order of two large fried items that resemble a spring roll on the outside, but they are huge. One and a side was plenty for me and then I got to eat the other as a leftovers meal. They offer turkey and vegetarian options and everyone in my party got the turkey. It was absolutely delicious. The filling is a combination of smoked turkey, greens (mixed collards and cabbage), mac n' cheese and maybe a few other things I didn't recognize. It is a completely unique meal and one I would come back for without question. They offer a number of different sauces. I got the original and also tried my friend's whiskey bourbon. Of the two, the whiskey bourbon was the definite standout. My original was just ok. Not bad, but not memorable in any way. There are lots of other choices and I might try the spicy instead if I have the opportunity to go back. Notably, this is a place that claims Alabama as its roots, but I don't recall a white sauce as an option. The owner was onsite and he held court while we were waiting for our meals. He is ex-navy and ex-firefighter and now owns a food truck and several locations for his restaurant. Talking to him was a great experience and I encourage you to engage him if possible.

Love. If I can use…read moreone word to describe my experience at Soul Secret, that's it. Love Amore Besotted Take great people (Melinda was our server and the chef came out to check on us...more about Melinda later)... Combine it with great food and great ambiance, and you get this restaurant! The first thing that you notice when you walk in is that it feels like home. Some restaurants focus heavily on decor and leave a lot to be desired in terms of ambiance, the people, and the food. And in other restaurants, you walk in and feel as if you can stay there forever. This is one of those places. We stayed there for a while. Imagine being in Grandmom's living room with pictures on the wall and positive music playing in the background. That's Soul Secrets. The menu is big enough to make sure that everyone can find something to eat, but not so big that you will struggle to make a decision. From fried catfish and grits to French toast to salmon croquettes and the largest pancake on Earth, there is something for everyone. My niece ordered the French toast, and my sister ordered a special breakfast that came with a pancake, grits, eggs, potatoes, and sausage. I was still hungry from last night's meal, (and you can read about it in another review) so I just nibbled off of my sister's meal. The French toast came out first, and I could tell immediately that the chef knew what she was doing. The rest of the food came out, and again, they brought the largest pancake I've ever seen. My sister was treating us today, and I was glad that the menu prices were very reasonable. My niece said that the French toast was delicious, and she ate as much as she could. She has a dance performance tonight and made sure that she didn't put her show at risk. It was difficult for her because the food was so good, but she managed and took a box home to eat it later. Yes. My sister nibbled on everything else and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had the grits and some of the pancake, and I have to say that it was very difficult for me to stop eating because it tasted so good. The pancake was perfectly cooked and fluffy with crispy bits on the edge. The grits were creamy and flavorful, even without cheese. The coffee was great. I had several cups. All in all, it was arguably better than any breakfast I've had at any restaurant that serves it. Now let's get back to Melinda. So often, the dining experience can be directly related to the person that greets you when you take a seat. Thank goodness we were greeted by Melinda. She has one of those energies and personalities that makes you feel as if she has been in your family for years. Funny and friendly, but at the same time, dedicated to making sure that you have a good experience. Again, I felt like I was at someone's home rather than in a restaurant. She called me a "troublemaker," which means that somehow she was seeing the 20-year-old version of me instead of the person that I am today. lol So here's the summary. If you are in Cincinnati and you want a great meal, there are many restaurants to choose from. It appears to be a pretty decent restaurant town. But if you want to FEEL Cincinnati, while feeling right at home and having one of the best meals ever- Soul Secrets is one for the ages.

The menu consists of numerous protein and vegetable options including vegan. The Mac N Cheese was a baked homey delight, the fried Okra was a well seasonend crispy goodness that tingled the taste buds with every bite, the collard greens cooked with smoked turkey and cornbread were perfection, the fried catfish was a visual delight; seasoned well and crunchy to the touch. My family members cooed over the cabbage, the sweet potatoes (not from a can), the chicken tenders, chicken wings with multiple sauce selections and the fried, flakey cod fish. I highly recommend the Watermelon Lemonade! Desserts were also on the menu without a doubt. A selection of pies, cakes, banana pudding and I must say the cookies and cream cheesecake cup was a chef's kiss at the end of a wonderful meal. Imagine getting all dolled up to dine at the newest soul food restaurant in town then realizing you stepped into a souped-up chicken/fish spot. I gave it 3 stars simply for the food as the experience was a solid one. Upon arrival, there was no greeting and so we just found a table. A small group of folks were sitting at the tables near the front door waiting for their takeout. Honestly, that's what this place should be. A takeout joint with tables for those who want to eat their food there. Can you imagine ordering food to dine in and being presented with a set of takeout, cheaply-made plastic cutlery? Yep, that's what we were offered. I had to ask an employee walking by if they had "real" cutlery and he went to the back to grab us a set. The owner was working but unlike a fine dining establishment, did not come over to greet us, the only dine-in customers. That would have went a long way had she done that. The sad part is the food was actually pretty good (tasty yams, mac/cheese, fried whiting, and peach cobbler). However, the cabbage was under-seasoned. Take my advice and order your food to go until the training, customer service, and adequate staffing is present. You won't be disappointed if you do that.

I tried the espresso martini, and it was outstanding--smooth, balanced, and the perfect complement to the bold, smoky flavors coming out of the kitchen. As for the food, it's consistently excellent. The dry rub wings are my go-to: perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of heat and flavor, and even better when paired with their bama white sauce. If you're leaning sandwich, you can't go wrong with a pulled pork or pulled chicken sammy topped with their Carolina gold sauce--it's tangy, slightly sweet, and completely addictive. And the fries? Thick-cut, crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside--exactly what great fries should be. Beyond the food and drinks, Lucius Q really shines as a place to gather. They have a fantastic event space that comfortably holds around 50 people--perfect for parties or private events. It's also one of the rare downtown spots with plenty of TVs, making it a great place to catch a game. Add in live music most Fridays and a great outdoor patio for those perfect Cincinnati weather days, and it's easy to see why this place is always buzzing. Lucius Q is one of those spots I simply can't walk past without slowing down and breathing it in.
