Brisket Platter
Joshua P.

I visited this spot eager to try their brisket, and was thrilled they still had some available. The brisket platter was satisfying; the meat was peppery, well-cooked, and among the better options in Cincinnati--though a couple other local places might rank higher. The mac and cheese was passable, served in a plastic jar and lacking that fresh-made charm, but the tangy coleslaw stood out and is worth recommending. Their sweet jalapeño cornbread, lightly coated in honey, had a mild kick and was an enjoyable side. While the overall meal was good, their BBQ sauces lacked intensity--the "hot" sauce was far from fiery, and the mustard sauce tasted quite basic. Also, ther service is a bit slow, but worth the wait.

This was a perfect find as we traveled through Cincy on our way to KY. We are currently trying a Carnivore diet & it isn't easy to find food in a restaurant. We were able to order a 3 meat platter with no sides. We got chicken, brisket & ribs. You could taste the smoke & the meat just melted in your mouth! It was plenty for the 2 of us. The place is quaint & filled with inspirational messages all over the walls. Definitely would stop again on our way home!

Pastrami sandwich with potato salad and baked beans.

As a Texas native it was hard to give it a well deserved 5 stars. The pastrami sandwich with the spicy mustard pickled onions and one delicious cheese or another was delicious. The potato salad did not have one raisin; delightful. The beans were hot and pared well with the meal. Any and God fearing Texan knows that I mixed the beans and the potato salad to make a 3rd side. The space was clean. I sat at a street front window. And took in the rain and passers by as I chewed with my mouth open; the beans were hot. Thanks to my Man Mike for the suggestions.

The month of December came bearing gifts of great food and amazing company. While in Cincinnati we ate at Just Q'in and this was the food highlight of the trip. This meat was amazing and the service was on point. Ever since my trip to Canada I have been obsessed with pastrami and the meat here did not disappoint. Juicy and tender. I also had the short ribs and like all other short ribs it isn't a cut of meat that's for me. It was good. The sides lived up to the hype and u just felt Luke the only thing missing was sliced bread! The place had a cool vibe with limited seating so you can't take an entire bus load to eat in. Would I go back, yep soon as I land. Should you go? Yep as your first and last meal.

We love, trying new restaurants when traveling and are especially drawn to barbecue places. I have to say this restaurant has such a friendly and enthusiastic team. Because it was our first visit, they extended a behind the scenes tour of the smoker areas out back. What great hospitality! We also were given samples of their smoked brisket chili, which was not on the menu yet and was wonderful! We ordered the sliced brisket - it is available in moist or lean varieties. Our sides were baked beans, cornbread, and potato salad. For $3 more you can add a side of burnt ends, so we did just that. The sweet tea was just what I needed that day - it's the little things! Everything we ordered was very good and I would order the same meal on my next visit. With a bowl of that chili! Overall a great experience from the entire team, and I will certainly be back when I am in the area. A+

Legit, slow smoked authentic bbq. As for the food, I give it a 4.5, but when you factor in the amazing, warm, welcoming staff, you have to give it a five. As soon as you hit the property, you are greeted with delicious aroma and a very welcoming warm energy. This is not a cheap eat spot, but their prices are pretty standard for quality smoked goodness. The brisket was amazing. I'm not sure what wood they use or seasoning, but it had a delicious, unique flavor. Even though the brisket was amazing and said to be the number one seller, the pastrami is the star, in my opinion. The half chicken was smoked perfectly with no rubbery skin.... thank you. The sides are good as well. Everything was seasoned perfectly, just the right amount of everything. I will definitely be a repeat customer, and with their rewards program, I'll be eating at a discount in no time!

When I came here I was looking to celebrate with one of my favorite meals that I don't eat very often - ribs! I decided to try this place out since it's closer and easier to get to than some of the other bbq places in the area. My order was ready FAST and picking it up was a breeze. The dry rub on these babies smelled heavenly but unfortunately they were pretty dry and overcooked. I liked both their mild and mustard sauces and while they both enhanced the experience; I just couldn't get past the toughness of the meat. I'm curious to try some of their other meats next time to see how they compare. All that said, their mac and cheese is straight . I would honestly considering swinging by just to pick up a cup of that. So cheesy and flavorful!

First time in and first impression was just what I was hoping for, laid back and all the smells you would want at a BBQ joint. What had us interested to come by was discovering them at Taste of Cincinnati. You order at the counter where their menu is on the wall from specials to all the meats and sides. I had a hard time picking as everything sounded so good! Now I find it hard to review BBQ food because there are many different ways and styles of this kind of food. You can argue that there's a right way and a wrong way to do BBQ. It's better in this state vs that state or it has to be done this way or that. I have tried a lot of BBQ and honestly have not found my fix in a while. I really was not expecting any thrills just assuming I'd be in the same old BBQ rut. I was pleasantly surprised! My husband and I shared some brisket and burnt ends with sides of mac and coleslaw. Brisket was deliciously juicy and melts in your mouth. Burnt ends had some of the tastiest rub, they were kind of like burnt end nuggets. Unfortunately some of them were pretty tough to chew and dry but when you got a good meaty one it was really good. You really don't need the BBQ sauces when there is so much flavor like these meats had, but theirs were a delicious compliment that included a hot BBQ, a sweet and tangy BBQ and a mustardy sauce. Okay so I know meat is the star of BBQ but this gal also loves her sides! Hands down some of the best coleslaw I've ever had. Was the perfect sweetness with vinegar and seasonings, so fresh it tasted like it's made daily. Mac was good, just a nice simple flavor, but what's really good that I was lucky enough to sample at the Taste of Cincinnati was their mac and cheese with brisket. Now that's a mac and cheese! Service was friendly with being very focused on preparing orders and prepping food. Vibe felt like your neighborhood BBQ with what seemed like a lot of locals coming by to chat and pick up food. We left with full bellies, 2 free stickers and a bright smile from the hostess to come back soon! I'm excited to get my fill next time and try their pastrami and chicken with sweet tea and cornbread too.

Came here on a Friday night as they were closing and they were unfortunately out of most of their meat, besides the chicken and pastrami. We opted to try both of the remaining meats and whatever sides they had left for our take out dinner to try to get a full taste for Just Q'in ... the Pastrami was TO DIE FOR - so juicy and full of flavor. We wished we had gotten more of it! The sides were really great as well - we loved the coleslaw and collard greens the most, with the mac and cheese and cornbread following at close seconds. The place itself was very inviting and the people working there beyond welcoming and friendly. We were sad that we could not enjoy the space due to the timing we were there and how they were closing up - but we will definitely be back to try some of the other meats and get more pastrami!

I was in this area for an appointment at the barber shop and my barber flaked on me. I sat there waiting for him and I was getting hungrier and hungrier as I waited. I decided to hit Yelp and figure out where I was gonna get some grub when I was tired of waiting on the barber. I love BBQ and I hate that it's so hard to find good, legit BBQ anymore. But, I think I found it here and I can tell they really put the work in to make sure the BBQ is fresh and cooked daily. In my opinion, that's they key to good BBQ. Typically, on the first visit, I tend to order either brisket or pulled pork. But on this particular day, I was already hacked off by the barber flaking on me, so I decided to go all in and get ribs. Dang, they hook it up!! I think there were 5 or 6 ribs on the plate and they were hecka good!! A nice dry rub sprinkled on top and I got the hot BBQ sauce on the side. Most times, BBQ spots have hot BBQ sauce that is not all that spicy. These guys have some spice in their hot BBQ sauce and it made my nose run! That's a good sign. Ribs fell apart on the top side and were a bit tougher on the bone side. I did notice the skin was still attached, which is a huge no-no in Texas and KC, but it's all good. I ordered the baked beans and cornbread for sides. Beans were a bit too saucy and sweet for my taste, but flavors were okay. I dunked my toast in them and that was solid. Cornbread was decent. But, let's get real. I don't really focus much attention on sides at a BBQ spot. I come for carnivorous adventures and not for side dishes. I'll be back for more soon and I think y'all should give them a try.

Every visit feels like a treat, but lately they've taken things up a notch with a lineup of signature cocktails. I tried the espresso martini, and it was outstanding--smooth, balanced, and the perfect complement to the bold, smoky flavors coming out of the kitchen. As for the food, it's consistently excellent. The dry rub wings are my go-to: perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of heat and flavor, and even better when paired with their bama white sauce. If you're leaning sandwich, you can't go wrong with a pulled pork or pulled chicken sammy topped with their Carolina gold sauce--it's tangy, slightly sweet, and completely addictive. And the fries? Thick-cut, crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside--exactly what great fries should be. Beyond the food and drinks, Lucius Q really shines as a place to gather. They have a fantastic event space that comfortably holds around 50 people--perfect for parties or private events. It's also one of the rare downtown spots with plenty of TVs, making it a great place to catch a game. Add in live music most Fridays and a great outdoor patio for those perfect Cincinnati weather days, and it's easy to see why this place is always buzzing. Lucius Q is one of those spots I simply can't walk past without slowing down and breathing it in. I've eaten my way through every smokehouse in Cincinnati, so when I say Midwest Best BBQ is the real deal, believe me. My arteries are practically Yelp-certified. The team of servers and cooks seems like they recruited an entire football team of young men from the University of Cincinnati; service so fast you'd think they were running a two-minute drill, attentive enough to make your mom jealous, and coordinated like they're protecting the quarterback only this time, the quarterback is your pulled-pork sandwich. Their wings, rubs, and sauces? Every single flavor profile was so good I nearly proposed to the coleslaw. And don't get me started on the G-Funk wings. They're delightful, though naming wings after a rap genre means you half expect Dr. Dre to hand you wet wipes. And let's talk about the smoking schedule. They've got a night smoker and a day smoker, which sounds less like a BBQ setup and more like a buddy-cop movie: "Day Smoker plays by the rules, Night Smoker breaks 'em, but together they deliver justice... in the form of brisket." Mark, one of the owners, literally smokes meat during a half-day shift with the love and passion of a Michelin-star chef who moonlights as Cupid. This guy makes ribs like he's serenading them. If Hallmark made a "Brisket Romance" channel, Mark would star in every single movie. I bought several pounds of meat to take home. Not "a pound." Several. Because nothing says "self-control" like hiding a bag of smoked chicken behind your kale in the fridge. Exclamation point. Period. Now, location... ...here's the kicker. They're hidden off the road over a hundred yards. That's right, it's the Area 51 of BBQ. You basically need Google Maps, a Sherpa, and divine intervention to find them. Yet, somehow, when you do, it feels like stumbling upon the Ark of the Covenant... ...only tastier, and fewer Nazis melting. Inside? Casual. TVs locked on Bengals or Reds games, so you can watch disappointment while you eat happiness. Patio? Shaded. Perfect for when you want to sweat from the hot sauce, not the sun. The sides? Top echelon. Beans, slaw, cornbread, each one a little sidekick to the main meat superhero. And for the low-carb crowd, this place is a protein paradise. Keto bros rejoice: you can bench-press your brisket guilt-free. Bottom line: Midwest Best BBQ doesn't just feed you, it baptizes you in smoke, sauce, and joy. And if you're not leaving with meat sweats, did you even go?

This place I was so impressed with. These businesses are the businesses that deserve to hold a special place in the world... firstly our food was delicious, it came out hot, presented well and was just perfect. Second our service was spectacular, we had Ron as our server he was a true gentleman friendly, attentive, and very experienced from what we could tell. The main host was very accommodating, at first we were sat in a spot we did not like we told him and he moved us to a perfect spot with no hesitation. Third the price was very fair and well worth what we paid. We have been to almost all of the "fine dining spots in Cincinnati, such as Capital Grille, Primavista, Precinct etc and this place by FAR provides the best dining experience in Cincinnati. If you are looking for an amazing meal, amazing service and you are in Cincinnati you better give this place a try. Very impressed and hope this place continues the service and food they provide for years to come and doesn't change.

$100 Food Poisoning…read more My husband was really wanting ribs and we had always heard good things about this restaurant. We didn't have a reservation but were seated pretty quickly on the heated patio upstairs. When we sat down, they instantly gave us our water and then we didn't see our waitress for about fifteen minutes. The waitress finally came and we went ahead and ordered our appetizers, drinks, and ribs all at same time because we didn't know when she'd be back (even told them no need to delay the entree to try to hurry things along). We waited quite a bit for our appetizers- about an hour. The couple next to us even left before they got their entrees and were very upset and spoke to the manager. We got the appetizers first- onion straws and the meatballs/grits. Meatballs were.... not good. Very very herby with an uncomplimentary sauce, grits were bland, but at least the onion straws were good. Ribs can out about 20 minutes later. We shared them and got mac as a side. Mac tasted very generic. We were very excited about the ribs but they were a let down. Sauce was very sweet and for price we paid I expected a bigger slab (we got the full slab). Went ahead and got our check while we were still eating so we could hurry home. Now, the real surprise came that evening. Husband got very very bad food poisoning- like the up all night kind. I'm not sure if it was his side of the ribs or the grits but it was BAD. Can't believe we paid over $100 for someone in the kitchen to not follow basic food safety protocol!! We will not be back! Money is better spent elsewhere!
