A new fun activity for kids and adults in Vaughan. Similar to other active facilities, Pixel has different rooms with different activities, games, and puzzles to complete. Each room has a different theme and activity to do, and most of the rooms had more than one gaming mode to choose from. Our favourite active room was the basketball or the ball throwing. The laser maze and pizza rooms were different and we've never done that before at other facilities. It was 60 mins of play and there is a scoreboard in the lobby area. The staff were very nice. I wasn't intending to be as late with this review, but just that I went out of town very shortly after the visit. Many have picked up on the fact that it is similar to Activate, but not quite at the same level. I would say it's a fair assessment, but just that it seemed when I looked that it's less expensive, so it probably balances out fairly. Some talked about having many technical issues with games, but I think it only came up once or twice out of the 15 or so that I tried (and I brought my kids along too). A couple of them didn't quite land with me, but there were many more that were lots of fun and worked as intented. read more

We had an attended the event with four yelpers. The one staff member working, took the time to sign us in and explain a room as well as how us how the screens worked. Although there was an introduction to one room, not everything worked. It wasn't as interactive. I had a fantastic time! I left sweating, it's a wonderful date night experience. Make sure to read the instructions before starting all the games. An interactive gaming experience meant for all ages. Pixel Pulse Playzone is located right by Vaughan Mills. With the 60-minute all-access pass, you can explore all the different rooms (~12 doors to enter) to take on various types of challenges! It's definitely not a place to go alone so I'm glad that my friend coordinated this visit with me. Some of the games are not fully functioning with a few that could use a bit of fine-tuning. An upgrade to improve on the user experience would definitely be recommended! The experience was mediocre. We were the only party of four upon arrival. The reception was friendly, checked us in, gave us each a bracelet and briefly explained how the games worked. We had 1hr of play. Each player needed to scan the bracelet for each game/room, a total of 13 games/room. We started out with the first room and quickly realized this was similar to a temu experience of other high budget rec room style type venue. The whole venue was super quiet with the exception of our party and our chatter...no back ground music so our conversations can be heard throughout the rooms (the ceilings of each room are open). The instructions for the games were barely provided and some of the rooms games weren't even functioning rooms. I would rate this a one and done type venue. I would most likely not recommend this to other since there are other type venues for about the same price point providing a better value and experience. read more

It was a fun afternoon out, getting to try a new fun place but after trying places like BRKFree, I think I enjoyed my time better at the latter, though this one was good too. They had lots of parking and they are conveniently located near Vaughan Mills. Check in was easy and quick, and the washrooms were very clean on site. The instructions to each game were quite long to read and I felt like it needs to be better improved and not be as long. Additionally, I found that some equipment wasn't working properly or it was very cheap quality (such as the laser guns) and some of the rooms felt glitchy, like the pizza delivery game, where despite doing it correctly, it was saying we didn't get it. In one of the rooms, we were also very confused about what to do despite following the instruction (the room with the dinosaur/cash/gold bar). There wasn't many people when we visited so we mostly had the place to ourselves which was nice. Some of the games felt a bit too long for my liking but we enjoyed it regardless. My favourite was the basketball. I noticed for some of the rooms, the more you win/get points, the more the timer resets and the more time you get. I feel like there needs to be a timer for each room giving you ample time to finish all the rooms within the hour that you're there. Wristband doesn't give you access to the arcade games. read more

Pixel Pulse is located conveniently next to Vaughn Mills. It was easy to find and they had plenty of parking. I went with two other friends on a Friday night and there was 1 other birthday party at the time. Service was friendly. Checked in at the front, signed a waiver, they gave us our wristbands and off we go. We got to try all the rooms at least 1 in the 1 hour of playing time. The game rooms were a lot smaller than I anticipated. While some games were fun, I thought overall needed better explanation and execution... For example: - Hexa Quest: did not explain which colour was our object. We had to figure out how to play along the way. The balls also kept falling through the net - Shoot It Out: some of the guns felt faulty and didn't turn all the way making it difficult to hit the other side. - Tile Hunt: there was a random box in one corner dangling that's a safety hazard if anyone was going too fast and accidentally ran into it. Game overall was boring and didn't feel challenging. - Basketball: my favorite game but the bouncy balls instead of using basketball was unexpected and made it harder which isn't an issue but there was no timer so game basically goes on until you lost all lives - Pizza Delivery & T-Rex Heist: needed a lot more explanation...no one in my group figured out how to play or it wasn't working... While it might be fun for children...I don't think it's a place for adults..I rather go to Activate if I'm being completely honest. Was a fun and unique Yelp event. Thanks for letting us bring a guest as it allowed us to get a true feel of what it would be like to play the games with a close friend. Since there were no other Yelpers at the same time I went, I would've had to play alone if I didn't get to bring a guest. Definitely a nice switch to see what's in the community in terms of activities/entertainment. To prepare for future visits I should have signed the waiver before arriving. Wish they had free lockers too. The games were creative and some unique ones I haven't seen at competitors before. We enjoyed the maze the best. However, we were disappointed to see some other rooms were malfunctioning. Also felt like some facilities were a little dated or some games had unclear instructions. Service was respectful. Didn't get the energetic level of welcome from other Yelp events, but they still helped us and we're patient with us. Was considerate of them to remember us on our way out and personally handed is our Yelp swag. Location wasn't hard to find. Was worried it was going to be busy on a Friday night, but we went 1 hr before closing and almost had the place to ourselves. Google maps took me into Vaughan Mills just to tell me to get out lol. I came on a Sunday and it was relatively quiet. There were 1 or 2 families playing as well. While there was ample parking spaces, the lines were quite faded so it was hard to know if you are parked within the lines. Ambiance - 3/5: when you come in, it is dark because it is an arcade style room. The door was open so the very front portion had some natural light filtering in. There were 2 people working. I honestly didn't realize the second person until I was leaving the place. I think he was in charge of the food/drinks. Service - 3.75/5: When I got in, I was asked to check in and then was lead to sign a waiver. He helped me with the wristband. I only had my purse with personal belongings so I was a little uncomfortable leaving it in an open area with no locks. He was nice and offered to keep the purse at the front desk with him to keep it safe for me. He explained the layout of the game rooms and briefly explained some of the games. I haven't played these games before so I asked him for recommendations. I told him I suck at ball toss/aiming games. He recommended the maze room. Games: 2.5/5 - it took awhile to understand the games. Out of all the rooms, I enjoyed the maze game and one of the rooms close to the bathroom. The maze game took a little bit to get used to. Within the first round, at some point, you needed to tap on 2 lights instead of 1. The other game - I forgot what it was called but inside, you have stand on a ledge because the floor turns red (you lose a life) and touch seashells that light up. You need to be quick and nimble with that game but it got my heart rate up running around on the ledges. You need to be tiny but also lengthy. I'm around 5 feet and the top rolls of the seashells were a bit of a stretch for me. As the game progresses, some of the seashells turn red too. Even if your shirt swipes it, you lose a life. The seashell game was a bit of a disappointment. There were probably about 8 seashells and you have to figure the odd one out by putting your ear close to the seashells. As the rounds progressed, the noise in the seashells got quieter. With the noise from rooms around it and music playing, it was so hard to hear. I played the basketball one just for the sake of it. Even if you finally shoot the ball in, and it's in sequence, it says you are wrong. I had a similar issue with the archery game. I can aim at the glowed up dots but can't really shoot properly. The t-rex game confused me. I kept losing lives and never made it past level 1. You're supposed to steal loot (tap your wrist badge) and put the loot in the safe box (also tap). But it had difficulty registering my badge. Sometimes it would give me green, sometimes red but most times it stayed blue. Overall: 3/5 - the ambiance and service is fine. I just think the games were lacking. The instructions provided outside was sometimes not helpful. However, I am grateful for this experience. I don't think I would have gone actively seeking these types of games. read more

The place was big and had a lot of game rooms. However, some games are difficult for one person. There were only 2 staff working in the whole facility and no customers. There were some glitches to some games (i.e basketball. You can shoot and get it in but the system wouldn't process the score). The parking lot lines are really faded, so it was difficult to park. Came with a group of 4 yelpers and this place looked oddly familiar. I've been here when it was an indoor playground with my kids. It was very dark when we went Thursday evening, we were the only ones there. No music playing and only one staff to help us. She explained the process and I've been to other yelp event like Brkfree and this place was definitely a smaller scale version of it. There were 12 rooms and the rules are explained when you get into the room, it was very basic and I would say 1/3 of the games were not working. While I was playing the shooting laser game, I noticed my gun does not even reach the left end and that the gun is off its hinges on the bottom. Overall, some repairs needs to be made and I would say the games were so-so, not as fun as the other places like activate. Tips: - You need to sign a waiver before you begin playing games. I used a tablet that kept on selecting the option below what I had tapped. - The claw, boxing, and motorcycle games don't have wristband access. You shell out to play them. I haven't been feeling great lately. My original thought was to drop by on Friday, but I was too nauseous. I felt a lot better on Sunday and decided to drop by. There was lots of parking. I backed into a spot, checked in on Yelp, and walked into the building. There were two male staffers there. I said that I was here for Yelp. The man asked for my name and found it on the Yelp list. While taking a photo of how to join the Pixel squad, one of the men said to scan the other Yelp QR code instead. My response: I checked in already. I'm not as stupid as you think I am. I take photos all the time. Let me be without insinuating that I haven't checked in on Yelp. It was already a rocky start. I had to sign a waiver using a tablet. It got worse. This touchscreen always chose the option below what I had selected. July for my birth month? I got August three times. The worst was specifying today's date on the waiver. It does not let you manually select the month. Rather, you're supposed to know that there's a Today button off to the right. I am a good tester for usability. Generally, if I don't get it, others won't. I give this waiver on a tablet a failing grade. Other than these two annoyances, I had a fun time. This man was kind to put a bracelet around my left wrist. He then led me to a game and let me know how to use the bracelet. When you find a game that interests you, you tap the Enter button on the touchscreen and then scan your bracelet on the GoToTags scanner. I played these games: - Basket: I chose the game where you shoot at the green backlit basket. If you shoot at the red one, you lose a life. I enjoyed this game a ton. - BallToss: You have inflated balls that you toss through green-lit rectangles. If you throw them through red rectangles, you lose a life. I didn't like this game because I lost two lives right off the bat and I didn't even throw balls through red rectangles. I didn't get it! - C-Target: You use a laser gun to hit circular marks. I liked that there were chairs if you needed to sit down to play this game or just take a breather. I did fine shooting at targets, but I wasn't sure how I was doing until I ran out of ammunition. It was okay. - Seashells: You run around the room listening to sounds that each seashell was producing. You have to weed out the sound that doesn't belong. I loved this game so much. It was fun and a bit tricky as I moved up each level. - Pizza Delivery: You have to take a pizza box with a specific pizza order and place it in front of a door. I didn't get this game. The buttons were confusing and there needed to be more instructions at the pizza box station. - Hexa Quest: I chose the game where you get two targets and you have to hit them with small red balls. You need to hit each pair of targets before time runs out. I played this game twice. It was awesome. I successfully got through all five rounds twice. My favourite games in the order in which I played them: - Basket - Seashells - Hexa Quest I read the experiences from a few Yelpers who said that this place is for kids and that the games are boring for adults. I respectfully disagree. The minimum age is seven years old according to PIxel Pulse's site. If I were my seven-year-old self, I'd have a difficult time shooting baskets, as the hoops were high up. I was a tall kid, so my saying that I wouldn't do well speaks volumes. Maybe if a parent lifted me up, I'd fare better as a kid. Folks who felt that these games were boring likely didn't find games that matched their skillset. I do well at throwing games, which explains why I liked shooting balls in basketball hoops and tossing red balls at targets. I also have decent hearing skills. It's why I ended up having three favourite games that I played more than once. I had to ask for Yelp swag when I was done playing for an hour. It's a branded fanny pack. It's great, especially when you travel and don't want to necessarily haul your entire purse across the street to dine at a restaurant. I found the washrooms towards the back to the gaming area. There are two single stalls. The one that I used was exceptionally clean. You lock the door with the red button when you're inside the stall, and use the square button to unlock and open the door. I let the man who rubbed me the wrong way right off the bat know that the games were super fun. He took off my bracelet. I wished him a great day. He reciprocated. And the point system seems a bit random especially with the team games. Even though the same room had multiple game options it would feel like the same game. Arrived on a Friday around 3PM. The parking lot was a bit small but there weren't too many people inside the playzone. You're given a wristband and you tap it to get into each room. The rooms are a good variety of different games (lasers, shooters, soccer, climbing, etc.) with some unique ones like robbing a bank and delivering pizzas. Some of the games don't have a lot of instructions so you're left figuring it out on your own. You can definitely finish each room at least once within an hour. Came here on a weekend and there wasn't any wait to get set up and ready to start playing the games! The inside is set up with multiple different rooms that have a variety of games to play. Some are more active than others and involve running, and some involve more teamwork so it was a good mix. There were also different game modes so some involve working with others to obtain an objective and others involved competing against each other to see who did best. I came with my husband and we tried all of the games except for the soccer one as the door was not working so we couldn't get inside. When you first enter you are greeted and asked to fill out a waiver, once you do, they provide you with a wristband that allows you access to the games and keeps track of your score. On each door there is a screen to scan your wristband and select the game mode. We started off with an easier game to get the hang of things, and then quickly started competing. With the number of rooms our hour went by really quickly, but we were still able to try so many different rooms and modes (likely due to the minimal people at the time). Our favourite room was the basketball one, however we noticed that the sensors were not always working properly so there were times we had to get the same basket multiple times before it registered. Another room with a wall of blinking lights that you have to select, had the issue where any button not in use for the round was blue. So when we had to hit all the blue buttons we had to hit almost all of the buttons to find the right ones. I think there is potential for this place to be more fun if they fix the few technical difficulties that occurred. We arrived on Friday evening at 7pm and it was a smooth check in process. Signed waivers, got our wristbands and went straight to the games. Some of the games were fun, while some can be improved. For example, the games where you have to listen to instructions we found it was hard to hear. The game with the laser , once we got through level one and we have a player on each end we just had to tap all the lights without maneuvering through the lasers which defeats the purpose. Another game where we had to throw balls at the wall with lights, the netting that was supposed to capture the balls allowed all the balls to fall through.
