My friends and I tried the Devils Toy Box which is designed more as a beginner escape as it does not involve multiple rooms. Prior to entering, they go over everything we needed to know e.g. rules, where the help button is, how it looks like, how the game ends, etc. Great customer service! I've been to a lot of escape rooms and gotta say, this one just didn't measure up. The cost was the same as most. I went on a Friday night so it was $25, which wasn't really worth the price. The room we did only had one room and was quite small. With three people in our group, it seemed that's all that would fit in there. Overall, the room had a couple cool components but don't know if I'd return to see the rest. read more

To continue our escape room stint, we visited Freeing Canada Station located in the plaza with T&T, Putting Edge, and Party City. At night, it is almost impossible to see it and we kept driving around and around until finally we saw the flickering sign in the corner of T&T. I have to say they have one of the nicest lobbies I've ever seen. Very aesthetics. It's too bad we didn't spend more time there as they do have some board games while you wait as well as a snack bar. We've done two rooms from here: unmasked and the devils toy box. Devils toy box is still in beta testing and only $15 if you want to try it out! Unmasked was not bad. It definitely had some creepy factors but not too scary. Puzzles were doable and made sense. There is some tech, but I'd say it is lower than Omescape or Trapped. My friends and I played all six of their games in one day. The decor for each game was fantastic, but I would only recommend the 60 minute games, and not the 45 minute ones. The 45 minute games are single rooms; the puzzles are rather simple, and the stories tend to be more bland. Meanwhile, the 60 minute games are multi-room games, with much better decor, creativity with puzzles, and fancy mechanisms. Mission Incredible and Unmask were fun, but my favourites were definitely Pirate's Prize (we passed!), and Unforeseeable Pyramid (we failed!). Pro-tip: Make sure you're wearing running shoes, and clothes you don't mind getting dirty... The thing I loved most about Unforeseeable Pyramid was how I felt like I was Lara Croft, inside an actual Egyptian tomb; there was sand everywhere. It was hilarious. read more

Great place for a night out We visited the escape rooms in October and played the diamond heist game. We didn't get out... but we were close! The staff was very accommodating and allowed us to keep trying for a long time after we lost. Been to a lot of escape rooms in Canada and this one was the worst one so far. We had a group of 5 people and we played the pirate escape room. No spoilers here. Just believed there wasn't enough space in the room to maneuver around. Difficulty wise it was alright. Some of the objects we touched needed to be reset completely which we didn't know. I would try other escape rooms instead of going back here and trying different rooms. read more

AMBIENCE: chill environment with spacious lounge and free popcorn. Receptionist are helpful and explain the procedure. Board games are available while waiting or post games. They have overpriced food and snacks in the corner and free popcorn (though definitely stale). QUALITY: we did the unmask escape room and we finished in about 35 minutes. The game was not overly difficult (5/8 difficulty) and the puzzles were interesting but quite easy. Props were not in very good shape but for an escape room, quality is not overly expected. We played with 7 people though, so that might have had an influence. PRICE: I think it was around $28 per person for a 60 minute room. Kind of steep for what we got. TIPS: place isn't super busy, even on weekends. No worry about reservations unless there's a specific room you really want to play. They have lockers to put your stuff too. read more

Went here as a group of 4 on Family Day. We did the room "Devil's Toy Box". The experience was a little disappointing. The room was pitch black at first so we could not see anything - so we tried feeling for things...oops, one of our group members just kept pressing the call bell at this point thinking it was a button for the room to turn something on. The staff came in and basically told us to keep feeling around until we open something...she watched us and I guess we weren't feeling around enough that she took one of our group member's hand and said "open this cupboard"...which basically gave it away for us. After, we seemed to move around the room decently. One of the setbacks that I made me really dislike this room is how small the room is and how one of the boxes we had to open literally had about 4-5 locks on it - quite pointless as if you open one, you still have multiple locks to go in order to open it. We prefer doing escape rooms where once you open one lock, it will lead to another clue, which then you have to solve, to lead to another clue, and so on. Unfortunately, we did not get to solve/finish the room. I think we basically just gave up and didn't have the drive to keep finding clues to open that one particular box with multiple locks. At $23 per person for such a small room, it was pretty disappointing. This isn't like the other rooms they have at Freeing Canada where there are multiple rooms for your to find clues and such, and most definitely not the same electronic/technology puzzles you would find at other places like Omescape or Trapped. read more

My boyfriend and I have done all the 60 minute rooms (Mission incredible, Pirates prize, Unforseeable pyramid and Unmask). They are all pretty decent, not as expensive as some other rooms. They have a good variety of puzzles, but some of the solutions require very precise placement of objects. We found this frustrating as those puzzles took us alot longer simply because we couldn't tell if our solution was wrong, or if the object was placed just slightly wrong. Overall, the rooms were still fun. Would give them 3.5 stars if possible. read more

This was only my second time at an escape room but I found this experience much better than my first. I tried the Pirate's Prize puzzle and from beginning to end I was impressed with the variety of electronic components incorporated into the puzzle. The decor was really nicely done (in the puzzle room and lobby). Staff was also very helpful when we needed clues. I brought my niece and nephew for their first experience and now they are constantly asking me to bring them back to try the other rooms. Will definitely be back. read more

Last night I came to this escape room after a disappointing experience the first time with my friends where they had a room that was not reset properly. This resulted in our team not understanding the puzzles that linked together and the staff that was handling the situation handled it poorly and without care. This resulted in us generating a review on Facebook which promptly received a response from the owner apologizing on behalf of the staff and team and offered us an opportunity to come back for another room to experience on them. Needless to say, we returned for the Unforeseeable Pyramid and it was definitely one of the most challenging rooms yet at this location. The owner Kenneth was very responsive and customer-service oriented that I was thoroughly impressed with his interaction after our first experience. Further to the fact that he was the one monitoring our room to ensure that it went flawlessly (though a lightbulb burnt out in one of the puzzles which also caused some confusion for us), he allowed us some more time at the end to try and solve the last puzzle piece. At the end, our team had a small chat with him on his experience as an escape room owner and he was very open about his story and approachable overall. Came here with a group of friends for the mission incredible room. Fog machine was not ready when we got in. Clues were just random and not well thought out, honestly there were not that many puzzles to solve. Decor was poorly done, can see things falling apart. Worst part, I was startled to find the staff had walked into our room and before we solved the last puzzle. Turns out he wanted to start preparing for the next group after us. He then kept throwing hints at us to get us to finish earlier and get out. Ruined our whole experience. Guys, if you don't know how to run an escape room, then please don't. The rooms are very well designed and fits the theme with unique elements not found in other Escape places. I played the Pirate and the Egyptian theme (rated highest difficulty but we escaped successfully). I enjoyed both experiences as I really felt transported to the Pirate/Egyptian world respectively. Puzzles are logical and do not require excessive reading. Sometimes I felt that there were not enough puzzles for a group of 6. We encountered 1 technical difficulty in both rooms. Other than that everything was excellent and I would recommend this place. Free popcorn and board games available. Can be difficult to find on the outside - it is beside T&T. read more

Not for kids. i booked a game for my kid 11th birthday, when i called i ask if it suitable for this age they told me yes. unfortunately when we came and ask if the girls have any chance to finish the tasks the guy told me not really...also, the guy had very hard accent and we could barely understand the instructions (the girls are fluent in English). they couldn't do even first mission... i don't find that place kids friendly and wouldn't recommend. on positive note- birthday girl was no charge, party lounge was $50 extra ,you can bring pizza and cake, they give you popcorn, plates ,napkins....and have some boards games to play. read more

I went to Freeing Canada Station recently and had a great time. I had been to some other rooms before, but this was definitely a step up from what I had experienced before. At the other places, we would just have to solve random puzzles that didn't really have anything to do with the storyline to open locked boxes and get the next clue. One place that we visited was mostly a bare room with just a chest in it! We weren't even offered a storyline! The room that we tried here (Unmask) was amazingly decorated to suit the theme and was more high-tech than I had anticipated so I was very pleasantly surprised. My group of 5 worked well together and although it was challenging, we actually escaped! Freeing is a new place so we actually beat the top time...until 4 hours later when another team came and beat us. LOL I feel that at Freeing, they've made the rooms so that they aren't unbeatable within the allotted time given. I feel that some of the other places that I've been to were designed so that people can't really escape and it can get frustrating. Here, you will be challenged for sure, but it's possible to escape (because the clues aren't super random) so that you feel a sense of accomplishment. The Service: The service was excellent! We were greeted right when we got in, and everyone was very friendly. We were offered free soft drinks or coffee by liking them on FB. We got there a bit early and enjoyed the freshly popped free popcorn as well. YUM! Because we went there for a friend's birthday, we brought some cupcakes from NomNom Custom Cakes and were surprised to see that they sold them there as well! Those were some really delicious cupcakes. They don't skimp on the yummy frosting! If you love cupcakes like I do, then you should really try one while you're there! The Atmosphere: To our surprise, we stayed there for another 4 hours after the escape room. The lounge is a really great place to hang out. We ended up playing a few board games and had a blast. We didn't even notice the time go by. The place is clean, and comfortable. The decor is modern, but inviting. The owners came up to us a few times and chatted with us. We felt very welcome. It would have been perfect if they had some more food or drinks for us to munch on. We ended up leaving when we got hungry enough for dinner. lol Also, as I mentioned before, the decor inside the room was amazing. Really sets the stage for the game, and puts you in the right mindset. The Verdict: I highly recommend Freeing to anyone who's looking to try an escape room. You won't be disappointed. We are going to be back to do Mission Incredible (the room with the lasers.) I also heard that they are opening a new room that has something to do with pyramids and that sounds pretty cool too. read more

I can't believe I haven't tried Freeing Canada yet. I've seen lots of friends check in (tip: $5 discount if you check in on Facebook) and just thought to try it recently. I was not disappointed! We've only completed one room (Pyramid) and I have to say that there are quite a few surprises despite the fact that I've been to quite a few escape rooms around town. It's a multi-room escape. Props are very well made - none of the dollar store items you may find in some cheaper escape rooms. I found the puzzles to be linear in that you don't get lost with clues you have in your hand. There are quite a few innovative puzzles and technologies used. Atmosphere is great - you are greeted by an amazing entrance when you enter and it gets you into the mood. I expected the typical mummy prop but there are other rocks/engravings in there which are quite interesting. Definitely one of the better escape facilities I've been to. I only refrain from giving a full 5 star in this aspect due to a slight technical difficulty - it doesn't bother me as the puzzle itself was very creative, but nonetheless could have been avoided. Our party thoroughly enjoyed it and are definitely talking about returning again. Otherwise, the facility itself is very roomy - I think they're above T&T which gives them quite a bit of room. The reception area is very spacious with a lot of seating and free popcorn! This is a first I've encountered anywhere, which makes me overlook any earlier technical difficulty and give a full 5 star to my experience. read more

The 60 minute rooms are worthwhile but the 45 min rooms are not, principally because they have red herrings in their rooms. The 45 min rooms are single rooms, and red herrings tend to be a potentially huge time waster, and it also allows the rooms to be constructed with less puzzles this way. I have been a fan of the "Freeing HK" franchise since Hong Kong and was excited to try this "station". We were recommended by staff that the Pirate themed room was the best which reflected online reviews. Second, would be the Egypt themed room. Staff was helpful and polite. The decor was top notch and really built a mysterious atmosphere that was a good setup for the experience. Our party of 3 enjoyed the experience of the Pirate room and they have many contraptions that were unique. The only issue we had was some of the contraptions were either buggy or needed to fidget with it to make it work. Otherwise, the room was well designed and tested your critical thinking skills. Will come back for the other rooms. read more

The location of this place is really random - it's entrance is on the side of a T&T and you have to walk up the stairs. But the facility it really nice! They actually put effort into the lobby to make it look more like a cafe than an escape room. With a facebook check-in, we paid $23 per person. They have a decent selection of board games for you to play for free, as well as a cafe with drinks. They even gave us free popcorn! We played a pirates room (room #1), and the room was really well designed! The reaction time for solving a puzzle to the actual triggering of doors was a bit off. We were often confused whether we had solved something right and then a few seconds later something happened. Also wasn't too happy that the entrance of the room was also the exit (at least for ours), but I guess it can't be helped since this location is pretty central so there isn't as much free space to use. Overall, I'm pretty impressed with this place. read more

Love it when my friends and I find new escape rooms because we have basically tried majority of them already! This place is located right at the corner of T&T so it can be quite easy to miss their sign. We tried unmasked, which was a multi room escape and we thought it was created quite nicely. Some locks were a little bit trickier to solve so make sure to literally look and flip everything around or you might miss an important clue and not be able to escape. We were also fortunate enough to try one of their new room "Devils toy box" for $15. It was still in the beta phase so there were still some things that needed to be changed and they actually took them in to consideration. read more

When we got in to the room we spent over 15 minutes trying to find the first clue which had been locked in the box it was supposed to help open. This unfortunate mistake set a not great mood for the room. Another lock was also left open which should have been closed which was also extremely frustrating, another mistake. There was another clue that had 2 possible answers, though only 1 would be correct to open the next door, which was also very poorly planned. I have been to many escape rooms, and I have never experienced this amount of issues in a room. It was not set up properly for us to play it. The only positive thing I have to say is that the design was very well done, it's just a shame we couldn't enjoy it to the fullest with all given issues in the room. More frustrating was how they dealt with this major problem. While they apologized profusely, all they managed to offer us was a free drink, which didn't interest me at all, or 25% off the next time we come to play. I don't live in the country, so this didn't help me. Even if I did, I would not want to come back to these escape rooms after this experience, even at a discounted rate. To me, a discount for the next time is "here is an incentive to give us more money please". They should have comped our room or at least given back a discounted portion on what we payed. Overall would not visit again, would not recommend, and extremely unimpressed by how unprofessional the room was, and how they dealt with us. read more

2.5 **' With my group of escape-room-addict friends, we came to Freeing Canada Station with high expectations (seeing how it's an international franchise). Black swan was the room we had booked. An interesting story. Black swan is a single-room experience with combo locks. A handful of the puzzles were well thought out/had intriguing props/mechanisms of resolution. Continuity was reasonably well established. The use of mixed media also a plus. However, at 25-28 dollars a pop, I expect much better. Yes I'm aware of the social media discount but the clerk would not let us take that discount since we paid and booked online---an odd way to reward customers who make scheduling easier. I might come back for the pyramids or pirates room as we snuck a peek and the interior looked more interesting than the Black Swan. But seriously? "GTA's Top Escape Room Experiences"? That crown does not belong to you---not by a long shot. read more

I love this place! I've done all the rooms except for the Unforseeable Pyramid and the Black Swan. My favourite room was the Pirate's Prize! I see they have a new room coming that is replacing Painter's Murderer (I believe) and definitely will be coming to try that when it comes out! They also have a pretty reasonable price. As escape room fanatics, we have mixed feelings about this establishment. Unforeseeable pyramid was a great multi room with very challenging puzzles and impressive props and design, however we found Mission Incredible terribly lacking. Unfortunately the tech in the room kept failing in the beginning which took away from our experience, and the clues were much more riddle-like then puzzles. There was potential for that room, and even tho we completed it, we left unsatisfied for the price we paid. With such varying quality of the rooms we are feeling unsure if the other rooms were worth coming back to try. read more

Great staff, nice facilities, nice décor but I was underwhelmed by the rooms. Location: They are located right next to the supermarket and up a flight of stairs. I'm not sure if there's an elevator so I suggest to call and ask, if you mobility issues. It is a beautiful facility (I would love to live there!) with lots of room, great seating and tables, and excellent closets to lock up valuables. They also have snacks for additional cost (popcorn is free!) and a decent collection of boardgames. I will say though, it was very very cold, so bring a sweater. Staff: When you walk in you are greeted at the reception. I was already unsure about the rooms because it is pricier than a lot of the other rooms I had been to. But the staff member told us about their discount if you check in on Facebook, so that helped a little bit. They are very approachable and seem willing to chat if you are inclined to do so. Rooms: We did two rooms, Black Swan and Painter's Murder, since we were trying to kill time before our dinner plans. This was one of the few places we could find with available rooms. The rooms are adorned with items very much in line with the theme. They also take a little bit of a different approach than other places and ask you to complete a mission rather than just escaping. Everything sounds great, so why the mediocre rating? Because the room was quite easy with very simple locks. This is one of the only places where I didn't feel any urgency to get out. I thought maybe it was just the first room and tried another but I felt the same: underwhelmed. I would be concerned for larger parties because there didn't seem to be much to do (we were a party of two). Given the price I was expecting there to be possibly be more technology or gadgets than there was. Also the rooms are only mostly 45 minutes (I think one was 60 minutes), so for the price I felt there was a lot more to be desired. Now I will say these two rooms are their easier rooms, so maybe the other ones are better? So overall, for the prices they charge, I was expecting more. Granted, this is Richmond Hill so the price isn't completely unreasonable. I will leave off saying they have excellent potential and I'm willing to give them another shot if the situation arises. read more

We have done many well rated escape rooms around the GTA and Freeing Canada ranks up with them. The couches, games and free popcorn make it the best waiting area thus far. The staff was also kind and passionate. We did two rooms: Pirate's Prize and Unmask. The theme and immersion of Pirates is far superior. It also had one of my favourite puzzles of all time (for which we needed a clue, but once we got it I thought it was brilliant). I also like that the rooms have a fun way of telling you that you've escaped. Update: We have done two more rooms here. Painters Murderer was okay. Not that many actual puzzles, even for the shorter time slot. Wouldn't recommend it. Unforeseeable Pyramid has a well designed set and interesting puzzles, but three things went wrong. (1) The final puzzle was not reset. This meant that the first thing we did was happen upon the final key and figure out how to use it to escape. Kind of anticlimactic. (2) A key/tool was broken. We made it work, but easy to replace and should be. (3) One puzzle has multiple solutions (which we didn't know) but only one opens the door. When we asked for help the first person who came agreed that we solved it and needed to get the other person. This place has great potential, but with the "bleh" of the third room and issues in the fourth my rating has to go down. read more

4.5 star actually! I really enjoyed this place. Finally found another escape room nearby that's actually good! They cater to all levels of players. I found that their rooms had decent props and pretty good puzzles. Their Egypt themed room was the most techy of all but the majority of their rooms did not have much tech/engineering involved. But compared to other rooms like this, this would be the best. I've personally completed 4/5 rooms and they're currently creating a new one. They have a seating area and games to play. Their lockers are HUGE! Friendly staff who generally give us a but if extra time when we're on the last puzzle and time runs out :p. For the price (FB like and check in discount), I enjoy coming to this place. I plan to come back and complete the other rooms soon! read more

did Pirate room with a group. very good rooms BUT! we got stuck in the first room and needed to ask for 3 hints for the same problem/task. The task really had a leap in logic that was random involging abritrary math and finding a combination based on it. this is silly. the staff let us stay for a lot of extra time as we got stuck on things (we weren't successful in the end - although the staff was kind to let us at least see all sections of the room(s). Be aware that some of the escape rooms require crawling, odd movements etc so clarify this with staff before choosing a room. read more

My first escape experience was with these guys. Upon walking in i got the sense that this place was a notch above the rest of the places that ive seen pictures of. they have lots of great promos running all the time and a comfortable and open lobby area thats is great for hanging out before and after your game. The escape games themselves were pretty damn awesome. Weère talking spooky single room for beginners to multi tier wickedness for the more bold. i got my ass handed to me but it felt like a very fair ass kicking. the staff was also very friendly. lotsa smiles and professional but very welcoming. theres also freeeee popcorn!!!! im ready to give it another try with more friends next time and also take advantage of that lounge/lobby of theirs to just kick back and chat. read more
