Always had a hard time with hearing aids and the ear pieces sliding out. After a through hearing exam Dr. Steinberg recommended the solid ear pieces. What a difference they have made. I took my 97 year old mother to Dr. Steinberg, because she had blockage in both of her ears due to old wax. He was most gentle with her and was able to clean out both ears. He patiently work to clear out the passages. I am thankful to him and found the cost very reasonable. He is also affiliated with Sensaphonics for custom-fitted earlplugs, so he ended up saving me a trip downtown by doing impressions right on the spot. It is particularly difficult getting a good hearing aid fitting due to my surgically rebuilt ear canal. Luckily I found Dr. Steinberg and he has been up to the challenge. As others have said he is not pushy at all. He is extremely patient, personable and attentive throughout the process. He truly cares about the patient and will work with you to find a good fit. This is the second time I've been to an audiologist. My first experience was at a hospital. Fairy typical of a medical test: mechanical, a bit cold, long wait for results. This experience could not have been more professional and personable. Everything is done over the computer so the test results and consultation happens immediately. No paper graphs or week-long wait for your results. Dr. Steinberg was pleasant and knowledgeable and I never felt a hard sell. It's humbling to face hearing loss and get hearing aides (at 40!). With enormous gratitude for Dr. Steinberg, I submit this review and the video of my now-hearing Father that Dr. has hopefully put on his website for all to experience. I returned home to Chicago to visit my parents after Dad landed in rehab post broken bones and attempting to walk again. At 94, my dad was not doing well physically and on top of that, almost non-existent hearing. As a result, he was not able to hear his physical therapists instructions and was requiring his family and others to scream in order to be heard. This lack of communication impacted his physical improvement and probably added to some low mood and separation from the world. Jump to my meeting with Dr. Steinberg and a beautiful success story! Dr. Steinberg came to visit Dad at the rehab, conducted an onsite hearing evaluation and discovered his hearing aids had not been reprogrammed for his current hearing loss! Within an hour, he had reprogrammed his hearing aids and Dad could hear each of us - at our normal speaking volumes! Dr. Douglas Steinberg is just fabulous!! What service!! My husband bought hearing aids there. Dr. Steinberg was patient and spent hours at different times with my husband , fitting and checking. The result was that my husband has borderline hearing loss and in fact did not feel the aids were beneficial with total agreement of the Dr. Dr. Steinberg happily took the hearing aids back. He actually let my husband use them without charge for a month to see if they would work for him!! He is a wonderful Dr. and the service was unbelievable!! I have moderate to profound hearing loss but still very functional. I have always worn hearing aids since I can remember. I used to wear Siemens and Unitron, I switched over to Phonak. At first I fell in love as I was able to hear sounds such as elevator dings and birds. But it was since gone away. I went on my provider's site and found this office listed. When i inquired, I was ask what kinds of insurance. Although he was listed on my insurance site and taking my insurance. He would not see me as a new patient. After the lady put me on hold to double check, she says we do take your insurance but he's not accepting new clients (a nice way of saying we don't want medicaid patients). Unsettled, by being turned away. I called back a few days later to see if I would get the same response, if i mentioned a different insurance. Because my voice is distinctive from my hearing loss, the same lady recognized my voice and proceeds to tell me that she told me a few days ago that they were not accepting insurance. I liked this office because of the vast hearing aid options they had, some I had never heard or seen and because I work in an environment where hearing is key. I really wanted to check out this office. However I was turned away as new patient and as a customer when I asked if I could just purchase hearing aids instead. Nobody wants to feel turned away because they have "state insurance". That's exactly how I felt during my 2 brief phone calls to this office. The killer part in all of this is that at the end of the 2nd phone call, the lady proceeds to tell me look on my provider's website to find an office that will accept me. And when I asked her how she thought I found there office, it appears Mr. Doug worked quickly to get his name removed off the system because he no longer shows up as a provider via my insurance site. It feels like, because I have state insurance I'm not qualified to the same nice services and equipment as someone who has United or Blue Cross.... read more

I wish I would have found Douglas to be my first audiologist, I would have saved a whole lot of grief. I have gone through at least 5 audiologists and 12 pairs of hearing aids and nothing made me feel comfortable. I found him a year and a half ago and it's the best thing that has happened to me. Obviously, it takes a while to get to know a person but I felt comfortable with him the first time I met him. He is a very gifted man and knows his profession better than most. He genuinely cares about his patients and goes out of his way to make sure that they are happy. He is extremely thorough and it seemed to me that he goal was to make me happy 100% and he achieved it. If anyone out there is looking for an class A+ audiologist, go no further. Dr. Steinberg is your man. i guarantee! Please believe me, he is not paying me to write this up. This is because I am so happy to have run into him and I want others who have hearing loss to feel that they are getting the help they deserve. I wish him all the best.
