Sessions were group-based, emails were bcc: ed amongst a large group of students, and when she needed personalized support, it often took several days to schedule meetings, with some emails going unanswered. All they did was glance at her PIQs and applications once. Given our level of investment, we expected much more personalized attention, involvement, and genuine interest in her success. What a major disappointment and waste of thousands of dollars!

The Principal Mr. Carter, doesn't just sit behind a desk. He visits the classrooms and makes his presence known by walking the grounds picking up what little trash there is. All the students have a deep despiece for him and vice versa. He greets the students in the morning and welcomes them with a morning announcement that ends with a daily joke. Kumon also required pages and pages of homework. My kids felt the place was creepy. Not for us! Mathnasium sold me on the approach of targeting areas and working on a well rounded picture, while allowing a little time at the end for kids to show their current homework & make sure they're on the right track! I love receiving emails when my kids have completed mastery checks on skills & when they level up! My kids also love getting "stars" and completing "cards" to receive rewards, from chapstick to Disney tickets (depending on how much they save up for). The fun environment is great! It's still quiet & kids are focused. There is strategy building and game play too. It is worth the money if you can afford it! I wish I had this when I was a kid!

Our family has been at Carden Conejo for the last 5 years with our two kids having attended grades…read morepreschool through 4th grade so far. It is academically rigorous in all subjects, being one of the best in our area. Our specialists are also excellent: our kids have been able to do PE almost daily, the specialist classes (art, science, music, French, computers) all at least once or twice a week. Starting in kindergarten, the kids move with their classmates from their homeroom to the different dedicated specialist classes multiple times a day, which I think is a very mature thing to be able to do in kindergarten. They do public speaking at their weekly school assemblies multiple times a month, which I think is very special about this school. Best of all, they emphasize manners and morals which encourage human virtues, but also things like looking an adult in the eyes when saying good morning or when being spoken to, and holding the door open for an adult so that he/she can pass through first. Things that I feel our kids in the recent digital world do not really learn anymore, but will help them be successful in their workplaces (and families) in the future. Compared to other private schools in the area, tuition is more affordable, and yet the teachers offer academic support after school for kids to need it for free (although I think they should be paid extra for it). Although academically rigorous, our kids also have so much fun at school. Holidays are so fun. They have a huge fall festival at Halloween with carnival games, food trucks, trunk or treat. They also have a big festive winter holiday show, egg hunts for Easter, class parties, and a big family picnic on campus at the end of the year. They have tons of after school enrichment classes and Funtastic Friday nights where the kids can come and play in the evenings while parents get a night out. Summer camps are also very thoughtful and engaging. A favorite week is themed after the book Roxaboxen where they create their own shops and barter goods with "gems" as currency. We have loved every teacher we have had through the years. Everyone knows your child's name and each teacher invests in their students. One of my children had a little embarrassing accident at school and her 1st grade teacher handled it with such respect and tact - she treated her like she would want her own daughter treated. I think it would be hard to find a school with teachers and staff who are this invested in their students.

She has always struggled academically, so I felt that a small class at a private school would be the answer. I couldn't have been more wrong. This school is run by a family. The owners son in law is the pastor/principal/head teacher. He was not supportive of my daughter. He gave little direction in her studies which left her feeling defeated and upset. I would email asking how I could support at home and I would receive little direction. Aside from academics, there were a couple of kids in the class that my daughter did not get along with. It was a mutual disruption. For some reason, the teacher had my daughter sitting next to one of these kids in class which caused issues. We had a parent teacher conference and I had my daughters therapist on the line who suggested to the teacher that moving my daughter away from the other child could be beneficial and he wouldn't do it. Finally after emailing him about this 3 times, he moved my daughter. No matter what we suggested, there was a reason or an excuse for him not to do it. A few weeks later, I got a call from the teacher who said that my daughter is no longer welcome at their school because she hit another child. He didn't give me any other details aside from that. Later I found out that she hit one of the teachers kids who is also in the class. The reason she hit this kid is because he put his hands on her first. I'd also like to note that this boy has continuously picked on my daughter, and from what I've heard from other parents, picks on other kids as well (I've heard of him hitting and even kicking other kids). When I texted the teacher about this, he refused to acknowledge that it was his son. This school isn't run professionally. Their main substitute teacher is another pastor who also seems to mainly do hand work around the school. I've asked for teaching credentials and never got a response. Overall, I had a feeling of dread every time I had to see the teacher/pastor/principal. He made me feel that my daughter was a problem. Never once did I feel that I had true compassion and support from him, which is what you would expect from a pastor. He would say things to her to berate her. For example, when a new kid started and befriended my child, he told the other girl in front of my daughter to not let my daughter be a bad influence. He would also pick on her and embarrass her in class then when we had parent teacher meetings he would say that she lied about everything. I felt like I was losing my mind. We are now in a real school and the support has been amazing for us. She said that there are no bullies and her teacher is helpful. Her teacher today even commented to me that she has been a great influence on one of her classmates who has been struggling to keep up with work. My heart has been heavy for so long and the minute we left this school, that weight was lifted. I wish I pulled her out sooner. Also- the owner (the teachers father in law) made a racist comment in front of the entire school during the holiday performance. It was a line from a movie, but still, totally inappropriate to say in front of students and their families.

My girls, now 10 and 12, have been going to Accelerated Academy for three years and have loved the…read morelarge campus and sport court for play, the art facilities, the professional music instruction, and the close friendships they've made. They don't always enjoy the school work, especially math and English because it's hard. But I, however, love the fact that they have corrected the six step Common Core bad habits they had previously learned in public school. They calculate faster and understand better now. Since Covid-19 hit, because they could learn at their own pace, they excelled at home, gaining more than half a semester. They can't wait to go back on campus. The school sign says they will be open 5 days a week and have 6 foot distancing. My kids have received good moral development and achieve high marks in Latin. Don't be fooled. If a kid struggles with math when they go back to public school, blame Common Core. The teachers here are patient and proficient.
