Shortly after hanging up the phone, I got a text from the young girl who scheduled my appointment. She asked me to send her a copy of my driver's license by replying to the text, which I promptly did. On the day of my appointment, I arrived at the office 15 minutes early to fill out any additional paperwork. The girl answering the phones was busy making an appt for a new patient which, as I already knew, is very time-consuming. There were two other staff members present, but apparently none of them were trained to hand me my new patient check-in forms because they told me I'd have to wait. So finally, around 15 minutes later, the young girl was done with her phone call and able to check me in. The only problem is that I was not on their schedule. Not only that, but they didn't seem to have any record of me at all. Had I gone to the wrong office?? I scrolled through my texts to find the one requesting my license, in which the girl had stated her name. I said "isn't this you?" Yes, it was her and I was at the right place. Why am I not on the schedule at the time we discussed?? According to the young girl, she never received the picture of my license (which, from my end, had been sent), so she cancelled the appointment. No follow-up call requesting my license again. I don't even think I got a call letting me know they were cancelling the appt, although they had already set the precedent of communicating by text, so it would've been appropriate to send a follow-up text. When I pressed her to find out why there was no follow through, she said that she only works there part-time, so there was no way for her to follow up with me the next day, as it was her day off. Now, I don't solely blame her. She was obviously rather young and inexperienced and was just doing her best. But what a terrible lack of management that there are no procedures in place to handle this kind of thing! And what kind of establishment just cancels an appt after I obviously wanted to see the doctor, based on my initial investment of time in scheduling the appt?? I had already waited a couple of weeks for my appt, and I was in a tremendous amount of pain due to a pinched nerve in my neck. On top of that, they had wasted another 20 minutes of my time since I had arrived at the office for my appointment. The best they could do was to apologize and offer me an appointment in another week or so. No thanks. At this point, I think the appropriate thing for the doctor to do would be to see me that day. I understand maybe he was completely booked. Then he should stay late. I would've come back at the end of the day. I had already arranged to have the afternoon off from work so that I could be seen by him, and I find it inexcusable that the office is run in such a way that the staff just cancels appts because of one small piece of information missing. They demonstrated a total lack of consideration for my time and circumstances.

We were given an appointment time and, as with virtually every medical appointment, were instructed to arrive 30 minutes early. We did exactly that. Unfortunately, the check-in process was incredibly slow. There was only one employee working the front desk, and she appeared to be engaged in an extended conversation with the patient she was assisting. Several patients were waiting before us, and it took an unusually long time before another employee came to help. Even though we arrived 30 minutes early, it still took approximately 25 minutes just to complete the check-in process. We then went downstairs to the MRI department and arrived only two minutes before our scheduled appointment time. When we rang the bell, a young man opened the door and immediately, in a very rude tone, said, "You're late." I explained that we were not late--we had arrived 30 minutes early as instructed, but the lengthy check-in process had delayed us. Instead of listening, he insinuated that I was not telling the truth about how long the check-in process had taken. I found that accusation completely inappropriate and very insulting. We had followed Providence's instructions exactly, and I did not appreciate being treated as though I was being dishonest. He then insisted that we should have come earlier. If Providence expects patients to already be checked in and waiting in the MRI department before their appointment time, then that expectation should be reflected in the appointment instructions or the appointment time itself. Without any empathy or professionalism, he shut the door in our faces and told us we would have to wait because they were taking another patient ahead of us. Slamming the door in the face of an 89-year-old woman and her daughter after speaking to us so disrespectfully was completely unacceptable. What should have been a simple finger MRI ended up taking nearly two hours from start to finish. The only bright spot in our visit was another young man in the MRI department who was kind, courteous, and treated us with respect. He demonstrated the level of professionalism and compassion that every patient deserves. Providence needs to do a much better job training its staff on customer service and basic courtesy. Patients--especially elderly patients--deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, not rudeness, accusations, and dismissive behavior. This experience left us feeling frustrated, disrespected, and very disappointed.

DR HELM = GREAT ELIA PEREZ = SUCKS…read more Dr. Helm is solid. He's professional, listens, validates your illness and condition, and does his best to try different healing/coping modalities. He gets 5 stars. Then there is Elia Perez, Nurse Practitioner. She gets 0 stars. For example, Dr. Helm will say "schedule a follow up w/ Elia Perez to have her help you on that". I'll go to an appointment (generally just a 2 minute video chat) she'll have an action item to work on what Dr. Helm asked. I of course get charged for the full-cost of the appointment, even though it was only a 2-minute video chat. A month goes by, I hear nothing, another month? I'll call the office wondering what's going on? Front desk will make me schedule another appointment, another 2-minute video chat w/ Elia Perez, which I get charged big bucks for, and then she'll completely deny that she agreed to do anything. She'll even go so far as to say "we never do that, I never agreed to that"? WTF? So now I'm two months delayed, and I've paid money for two worthless appointments with her. Even when I had a procedure done there, which required and IV, she was so incompetent that she couldn't even do it; they had to bring in a vocational nurse (which is just a 2-year degree) who was WAY more proficient at freaking everything than Elia Perez with her masters degree of Nurse Practitioner. I've heard that Dr. Helm is finally closing his office, after many decades of work - good for him, he deserves a break. Bummer for me though, cause he was really good. I've heard that Elia Perez is going to work at the office of Dr. Medhat F. Mikhael, MD - Pain Medicine. Based on past experience w/ Elia Perez, I will definitely NOT be transferring over to Dr. Mikhael's office. Note: I recognize that my experience w/ Elia may be a one off, an you may have had a great experience, but the above is my honest experience. I'll be giving one star for this review, now that I know Dr. Helm's office is closing, so the 1-star review won't affect him. If Elia want's to contact Yelp and dispute this, I welcome that. We'll get all my records from Dr Helm's office and recordings of the video chats to prove to Yelp this is the truth.

They followed up with a call, and mentioned they would be able to get a fax while I filled out the paperwork. So far so good - then the appt comes. I saw Dr.Chen and at the end of it all, he was basically calling me a liar. I stated what they told me about the med info - there must have been miscommunication - No, Doc that is what they told me. He then went on to tell me, even if he had my other pain mgt. doctor's files, he still couldn't do anything until he got my med records from UCLA. Even though he knew one of the doctors I mentioned, he then said he couldn't do anything for me, until he verified what was in the files and my conditions. Cause you know, everyone makes up they have an autoimmune disease called RA and everyone refers to specific doctors whom, Dr. chen knows. Either I am psychic and could guess he would know one of those doctors or i don't know, maybe telling the truth? He also wanted to know why I didn't go to UCLA PM or my last PM appt, at a location 2 hrs away (recently moved). I found this odd too. My favorite was when he did a basic see how you are doing movement thing and as he tried to lift up my hip - I screamed in pain. He said that my examination was normal, and that I must be having a good day (my guess in ref. to me saying I have RA). Since he isn't a rheumatologist, but a pain mgt. doctor, I guess that qualifies him to make the statement - apparently he slept in a Holiday Inn. Oh, Anthem Blue Cross PPO is accepted, but out of network, so they charge $450. I saw this place had bad reviews on numerous sites, but figured you know what it is close by. End result - staying with my PM dr 2 hrs away.

Avoid, at all costs, this uncaring, delinquent, and…read moreunprofessional, so called doctor, Soodabeh (Sue) Abravesh, and her incredibly rude and mean office staff, Miriam. As a high-risk, first-time pregnant patient, I was willfully neglected, disrespected, and put through so much stress and anxiety by Abravesh and Miriam. My first visit during my 8-week of pregnancy was rushed to less than 10 minutes, after a long wait and their refusal to let my Husband accompany me to the exam room. I was never informed about their no accompanying person policy. They didn't even let my husband wait there and told him to go outside of the office and "wait by the elevators"!! I now know the reason: she does not want any witness to her negligent acts. Also, beware that she will continuously insist on performing an internal ultrasound during each visit, neglecting any high-risk pregnancy condition and the risk of miscarriage that comes with internal ultrasound at early stages of pregnancy. The reason is her ultrasound machine is so old and outdated that doesn't take accurate measurements abdominally. So, she will refer you to other doctors to perform the accurate ultrasound. But, she will lie and tell you it's because she does "not have time to do it there"!! For my second appointment, she scheduled it after 4 weeks. Worried that it would be too late for me to complete my first trimester tests, she replied: "no you will not miss anything." Two weeks before my appointment, still worried, I called her office and asked for an earlier appointment, to no avail. Then I asked that she at least email me the order for my tests and referral for the other OBGYN to do the Nuchal Translucency (NT) ultrasound that must be done before the end of first trimester to detect baby's chromosomal or genetic issues, so that I could complete them before my appointment with her. Miriam said she would ask Abravesh and will call me back. During those 2 weeks I anxiously called her office 3 more times asking for the orders but every time Miriam said "Dr has not responded to the messages I left for her" and never called me back. During my second visit, Abravesh again insisted on performing an internal ultrasound, which I refused. She then using her rusty ultrasound machine, shocked me by telling me that my baby's size wasn't a 12-week baby size but an almost 15-week baby size!!! I kept telling her that was impossible because I had planned this pregnancy and knew the exact dates. But she kept insisting that the measurements were correct and then said because my baby's size was past the first trimester size I had missed the window for one of the most important tests, the NT ultrasound!!! I started crying and told her that was why I kept calling her office asking for an earlier appointment or for the release of orders and referral to perform the tests before my appointment. She replied: "It's ok! You haven't missed much! You've missed only 1 test"!! When I researched about this huge difference in size, it appeared that this may indicate that the baby has genetic and health issues. Because of this and knowing that I missed the NT ultrasound due to her negligent conduct which could help detect the issues, I could not sleep for two nights and was constantly crying. Fortunately, understanding my situation, the other OBGYN's office staff kindly gave me an appointment after two days. There, the doctor performed an abdominal ultrasound, and told me Abravesh's measurements were completely wrong and baby's size, in fact, matched a 12-week baby size!!! She then completed the NT ultrasound and said everything looked normal. Then, Abravesh kept ignoring my phone requests for one week to release my medical records until I personally showed up at her office and she finally handed them to me after telling me that she was doing me "a favor" by giving my own medical records to me because "by law," she could have made me wait at least two weeks for them!!! My sincere advice: save yourself and your baby, and stay as far as you can from Abravesh and Miriam.

Dr. Christen Bergman, who gave me an intricate gum grafting surgery January 4, is a true artist--with a big heart. She's not just doing a job; she loves the science of making health come alive in people. Her love for her patients shows! Dr. Bergman has performed thousands of these surgeries for over 15 years. Beforehand, Dr. Bergman answered all my questions, with remarkable directness, insight, and clarity. And a big smile! Surgical assistant Omar fielded many follow-up questions adroitly and in such a friendly way. Treatment Coordinator Kristy worked proactively and kindly to complete all the paperwork and coordination. In surgery, I was first amazed at Dr. Bergman's skill. Rather than "nuking" a big nerve and sending all my cheeks, tongue and jaw numb, she instead took the trouble to carefully administer just the right small amounts of "targeted" local anesthetic topically, all across the rather wide surface areas to be treated. I never lost feeling in my tongue or cheeks the entire time. Yet there was no pain! Then Dr. Bergman began surgically. It was so pain-free that I was able to enjoy how artfully she worked, especially stitching the first large surgical area back together. "You could be in Hollywood sewing dresses for the stars!" I said. That was just the start of an arduous 3-hour procedure and here's where Dr. Bergman's compassion really shined. The "targeted" local anesthetic (my label) wears off quickly, so it's more work for the doctor than a big "nuking." The "targeted" type must be continually updated during surgery. And work hard she did! Dr. Bergman was continuously asking "can you feel this?" to make sure I had no pain where she was invading tissue -- as if I were her own child or sister. I felt so secure, I could just lay back and relax all that time, and even fell asleep awhile--even though I opted out of sedation and had only taken a few Tylenol.
