I chose to go with local instead of general anesthesia due to the cost. So I was awake and aware during the whole procedure. Dr. Wooten even called the next day (which was Saturday) to personally check up on her. Once the pain meds wore off - she went to ibuprofen. There were days where the pain was intense and ran up through to her ear and in her sinuses. At her followup appointment the nurse was less than thorough and basically dismissed all her concerns. The nurse 'Pam' ended up not taking my call on a particularly hard night when I called the answering service. The lady at the answering service told me there was no escalation beyond the nurse on call. I questioned her and she hung up on me. I was flabbergasted that no one would help us. I would not recommend this office to anyone. Here is the morning update: Dr. Wooten saw us this morning after I called our regular dentist and I insisted on not seeing the nurse with the business manager at the practice. Dr. Wooten was incredible! He listened to our concerns and ensured that he will take care of the situation. It is a shame that it was assumed that we were just trying to get narcotics. It is also a shame that our world is such that medical professionals have to be on guard to not give narcotics to people who are scammiing. My daughter needed up having a possible infection in her jaw. We got antibiotics and feel that we were heard and situation is on its way to resolution!

We (stupidly) decided on Aspen Dental for her routine cleaning/ checkup. She had always had perfect teeth, but one tooth was feeling a little sensitive and was being monitored by her dentist in Florida for a few years. We were shocked when Aspen Dental told her she had 8 teeth with surface decay and beginning stages of gingivitis! She would need special cleanings and would need 8 fillings!!! We had no reason to question them. It was a summer of pain and misery for her. The first dentist was young. He messed up every single filling! They all had to be redone by a more experienced dentist. The staff was incredibly unprofessional, gossiping about each other while working on her, and continually downplaying her pain. One tooth with "surface decay" ended up, with the pathetic excuse for a dentist, hollowing out that tooth, and leaving it that way. We had to go back, multiple times, and have a more experienced dentist redo all of her fillings- )She used to like going to the dentist until her traumatic experiences in the Aspen Dental West Knoxville location. Today, she finally worked up the courage to see a dentist in Cleveland Ohio. Her fillings on the two teeth have never been right. When she would floss, the floss would break, because the fillings were so rough between those two teeth. Her new hygienist, in Cleveland Ohio, was surprised at the poor work on the fillings. Now, she needs a root canal on the teeth that, supposedly, had "surface decay." I'm about to say something that sounds crazy. Prior to this, she never had a single cavity. When she went to Aspen Dental, she only had one tooth that had discomfort, and may have had a cavity. We were shocked when Aspen dental told us she had 8 cavities. We, now, strongly suspect they lied. We believe they drilled into healthy teeth for money. We believe Aspen Dental lied about the amount of work she needed done and drilled healthy teeth. Something is very wrong about them. We are so upset and angry. This has caused daily misery for my daughter. She walked in with one sensitive tooth, and now her teeth are permanently impacted. RUN AWAY! Find another dentist. I wish we had searched a second opinion

Current Day: I moved to Knoxville 2 years ago, away from my old surgeon and my family dentist who have guided me through this my entire life. So, I decided I needed to find an oral surgeon who could potentially help me with my current implants or assist in any future issues I could come across. I wholeheartedly regret ever coming across the phone number of Dr. Whittaker. I called to inquire about their services and had the misfortune of speaking with Patty, the receptionist. She was condescending, rude and just horrible to deal with. She made uneducated assumptions about my current dental implants and then proceeded to insult my past surgeon. Mind you, I have not been seen here; they have no history on me as a patient and know virtually nothing about my case. Overall, I'll end with this: it's truly a shame for such a forwardly negative person to work in healthcare. As you can imagine, my past surgeries are an incredibly sensitive topic to me--having any major dental work is a painful, awful, expensive mess. So, when I'm confronted with an unqualified individual talking down to me on the phone, enough to bring me to tears, I'm certainly not one to be silent about it. I'm looking out for you, the potential patient. Find an office that is compassionate, helpful and understanding. This is where Dr. Whittaker comes in. Everyone at the office was super friendly and helpful, from the receptionists to the nurses. One nurse actually dealt with me all three times I had to come in, and while I don't remember her name, she was awesome! Really quite friendly, which helped quell my fears on the day I actually got the teeth removed. Dr. Whittaker himself is the man. He was very nice, but also very professional and wise. Pretty much what you want in an oral surgeon. I have to admit, I was really nervous even during the first visit since I am a complete pansy, but the kindness exhibited from both him and the staff made me feel at ease. For the wisdom teeth removal itself, I was treated very graciously by everyone, and even given laughing gas almost immediately, just so I wouldn't be so nervous. The procedure seemed like it took a total of one second; according to my mother, it took thirty. Which, I don't know how long it usually takes, but surely this is pretty fast. I was out of there within an hour (after recovery and all) after being wheeled to my car by the nurse. I've heard many horror stories from friends and acquaintances regarding their personal wisdom teeth experience, however, I had none of these complications and I am almost certain it's because I chose the right oral surgeon. Pain was pretty much nonexistent after the first day, and I was even at work two days afterwards with little to no exhaustion or discomfort. I wasn't given dissolvable stitches in this case, so I had to go back a week after to have them removed. Dr. Whittaker seemed genuinely concerned with how I felt the whole week, making sure I had had as little pain as possible.I really can't express enough how his (as well as the one nurse's) demeanor really just made the whole experience as pleasant as it could be.
