Kid in a candy shop? Give me a book store instead! Thoroughly enjoyed this exhibit preview of this year's San Diego County Fair theme "Once Upon a Fair," especially the costumed characters, performers from Theater for Young Professionals, and Jon of The Caricature Entertainment. Waxed nostalgic over my favorite children's stories of all time, and even learned the exact differences between folk tales, fables, and fairy tales! Thank you SD County Fair, Yelp, and CM Audrey L. for a delightful experience!

What a fun and neat elite experience. Thank you to the fair, Yelp, and Audrey for another fun elite experience. I really enjoyed hearing all about the fair and especially this part of the fair, and the 10 plus months of planning and preparation and everything that goes into filling this 20,000 sq ft hall. It is all envisioned and then meticulously created. Hand crafted. As you can see in my photos as some of the exhibits were being created right in front of us. It was nice to hear from some of the leadership team and the contributors and sponsors. It was nice to hear about Dr. Seuss and their section. I enjoyed the performers walking around and in their exhibits. The food bites were delicious, especially the honey Brie grilled cheese, the strawberry crostini, and the brownie. I am happy that I got to be part of the experience.

Wow! This year's Fair theme exhibit could very well be a bestseller, certainly my favorite in the last decade! "Once Upon A Fair" focuses on storytelling, the adventures of great literature, and the creative art that books can inspire. Who can't relate to reading a book or hearing a classic tale? Getting the privilege to preview this year's theme was such a treat, and hearing all the hours of work and dedication behind the scenes was awe-inspiring! Thank you, Yelp and CM Audrey L., for giving us this opportunity to get a sneak peek! Can't wait to visit the Fair when it opens this week to see it again!

Every year the San Diego County Fair has a theme and this year's is a children's storybook one called Once Upon a Fair. The first exhibit hall near the main entrance features the annual themed exhibit. It's the only one that is created from scratch for each fair. Inside there were tributes to many famous books and children's stories such as from the works of local Dr. Seuss. There's even a scholastic book fair inside! Great school kids will most certainly have the most fun in this exhibit and a visit from older guest will spark nostalgia. This was fun to see, thank you to Yelp, Audrey, and the San Diego County fair for hosting!

Had so much fun at the fair preview! I love the reading theme this year! It was great to hear more about the fair and I love that they're partnering with local literacy groups & scholastic to donate books to title I schools in SD. Thank you YELP SD!!

Thank you Audrey, @SanDiegoCountyFair and @YelpSanDiego for the opportunity! First time in attending this VIP theme exhibit preview. Delicious food bites, love the live characters like Mr. One Page Turner. Audrey and I were the first to be interviewed and he asked what should be the title of his book and I stated, "Monday". I'm curious how many chapters he was able to write. That was a cool feature with the Scholastic Book Fair. I used to work in a school district and I volunteered many, many times at our school's Book fairs. Thank you to the caricature from Fair Odd Sketches! One man show tonight and he sketched so many "Wanted" posters. He definitely needs a reward of 1 million.... Hope to be able to visit the fair again. It's been awhile since I've been.

SOOOO much fun this evening previewing this years SD County Once Upon A Fair exhibit!!!! Thank you so much Audrey and the SD County Fair for this amazing experience. Jameson and I had so much fun looking at the exhibit with some of our favorite books and even a visit from the Cat in the Hat himself. Reading is fun for all ages and the fair sure did make the books come alive! Loved the characiture (Jameson, a wanted young gentleman for wearing his LALA Land hat in SD hehehe). Loved the Scholastic Book Fair setup in the exhibit as well. Brought back so many memories of taking Bailey and Jameson when they were younger. They have a great variety and was happy I could pick up a few items for my friends little one to enjoy. Cannot wait to go back opening day and see everything again!!! An exhibit not to be missed, check it out as soon as you enter. Beautiful books and artwork

What a great event! Thank you SD fair, Yelp, and Audrey for hosting! The theme this year is so wonderful and they've executed it beautifully. I brought my 9 year old daughter and we had a great time. The scholastic book fair and free little library are both great touches! The snacks and beverages were delicious and it was such a nice way to visit every exhibit. We even got caricatures!

My husband and I had been talking about going out to have wine somewhere since we can't really have a bottle at his mother's home here in San Diego (she's Mormon!). This elite experience sounded perfect and we were excited I made it on the guest list. We will definitely come here again for happy hour wine time. JD the Postino manager had informed us the movie theater nearby has a special deal on Tuesdays so it's perfect to do a date night. Most importantly, the parking was easy AND free. I'm so glad we found this place through the yelp experience! The hot donut dots were a nice treat on a rare rainy San Diego evening, and we enjoyed our glasses of red wine. We ended up ordering bruschetta in addition. We chose to sit outside but even with the chilly rain it was very comfortable. They had heaters turned on when it got colder. Overall, I really enjoyed the experience. Pros: lots of alcohol, super friendly vendors, San Pellegrino everywhere to keep you hydrated, nicely decorated with Day of Dead photo ops, fresh hot tacos (all delicious) with fancy toppings, restaurants from TJ, Mexicali, SD, variety of tacos from lengua to Thai to ahi to salmon, free parking, nice variety of alcohol from sangria to beer to wine to hard cider. Cons: long lines, waste of plates, no table tops/belly ups or seats unless part of VIP section, no dessert booths, lots of empty booths and/or vendors ran out of food before 2:00. But getting to go for free makes me even embarrassed to bring up the cons. Truly it was a great event. Liberty Station was a great venue for this because it was spacious for the amount of people in attendance. Tix were sold out. Parking is easy and free. Only caveat: I didn't check out restrooms or see them but I do wish there were handwashing stations around. Some vendors were eating with the same gloved hands they were serving from.

The business was located in a suite next door to a gelato shop, both of which were in this random industrial park. I wonder with its remote location, how much customer traffic it can generate from beyond the neighbors in this complex? Anyway, a bonus was that parking was super easy. Upon entering and checking in with the cashier to mark my name off the magic list, she informed me that each of us had a $15 credit to select anything off the menu. I really loved the flexibility of this offer as it opened up the possibilities. Normally, an Elite promotion is for one or two specified items. The offerings were obviously heavy on chicken, however I noticed some non-chicken grub like crispy shrimp, Filipino spaghetti, a veggie egg roll, and even Belgian waffles. My picks were the two middle entries out of the six in the Specialties section... Chicken & Waffles and Chicken Curry. They conveniently added up to $14.95. The first container had four mini waffles combined with around a dozen pieces of chicken nuggets. A self-service condiments station was available that provided ketchup and four different sauces with clearly marked signage of each name and flavor profile. I used the Golden Chicken Dip for the nuggets to add a sweet and smoky enhancement to the bits of white meat. The second bowl had white rice as a base with chicken, broccoli, and carrots in a curry sauce that was mild in heat and spices. Two slices of yellow pickled daikon (takuan) were included on the side. The mix made for a nice savory snack. Thank you to the owners and staff at Surf Up Chicken for introducing a group of Elites to your eatery. The combination of Asian fusion and Southern-style flavors was unique. Thanks also to Audrey and Yelp North County San Diego for identifying a new local, family-run business to host an Elite Week Event.
