Full 5 stars from me. I just went through their CLD training and got my CDL. It sure was intense and I had to put in a serious effort studying in the evenings etc. The instructors are very professional and I feel I had the best training possible. I payed myself out of pocket, so I was a big investment for me. But it payed off. Already before finishing the training, I had a good job on hand for driving locally in Oregon. The school really cares about you. I failed my external test the first time on 90 degree backing. They let me have an extra hour in the truck before my second test and I passed without any problems. No discussion about extra payment - I appreaciate that. I feel I got the best possible value for my money and I can 100% stand in for what they are doing. I would have choosen them again. 4 weeks I will never forget - Thanks to the staff!

Our son passed, because he said, "I didn't even feel like I was under pressure of taking a test, mom. Steve made me feel at ease, like I was just going for a drive with a family member." When he walked out and introduced himself, and told my son, "You drive with your mind, but more importantly, with your heart," (something to that effect) I knew we were in good hands. When Steve gave feedback and praised me as a parent, and I learned a little about his background as a former trainer to law enforcement, we were blessed to meet Steve and have him part of our family's driving journey. Again, congratulations to our son Kobe!

Make sure you can't be sick and reschedule. Your urgency is their business. Anyway if you are ok with their price and if you pass the test, it's worth it. Otherwise let's talk money, you pay $85 again. Your luck, their call. Tips- the girl at the counter is very nice and friendly. When you pay to schedule, ask her for test evaluation sheet so you have a clue what your kid will be doing. They will not offer that info automatically (almost like because they kinda want you to fail and pay another $85 to reschedule). I asked so she kindly explained the rule that you can fail "minors" up to 8 points and still pass. But "major" faults is a 1 time thing-- such as red light, stop sign violations, or anything that makes the examiner step on brake (yes they have brake on passenger side!) it will cause you exit the test right away. Another thing you should know, unlike at DMV you do not get to drive your car that you are familiar with. They only have Kia and it's gas. If you are used to EV pedals make sure you borrow grandpa's gas car for a day. I minus one star for just that. On the day you might have 2 examiners, one new and one supervisor in the back. The exam is quick like 20 minutes around town. Mostly about intersections, change lanes, using signals. No highway (disappointed). No parallel parking (very disappointed). Please please teach your kids to be proficient in parking for their own sake. After all it's NOT hard to pass. If your kid has been driving with you daily for at least a year, you shouldn't be worried at all. $85 is good investment and worth not to deal with DMV attitudes.

She is unpleasant in general, questionable in her role as an "instructor", and unapologetic as well as unaccountable. After an incident in her class where my high school daughter and I were specifically singled out for harassment, Loree determined that my intention to reach out directly to ODOT was a "threat", and expelled my daughter (who had participated respectfully and had never missed a single class session or driving lesson) from her program. A legal challenge had to be made, and a complaint to ODOT filed. If you prefer to interact with a driving school that is ethical, with a strong customer service orientation and an eye towards treating students fairly above all, this is not the right driving "academy" for your family.

While she may be an adequate "driving instructor," I don't believe that Loreen is necessarily at her best when she interacts with people. Especially when it involves taking accountability and apologizing. Loreen and I spoke on the telephone twice, for a length of time before coordinating dates/times that would best suit my daughters schedule and hers. After verbally discussing pricing and scheduling, a PayPal invoice was delivered to my email address. 1. The invoice was incorrect. When I telephoned Loreen, I asked her to please send a corrected invoice. She immediately countered with, "No, I didn't make an error. That is how much the driving lesson cost." Needless to say, the invoice was again emailed with the correct pricing. So YES, she did make an error and NO, she did not apologize. 2. An email with dates for the scheduled driving driving dates/times was to be emailed to my daughter. (I had placed them in my calendar as well). It was not emailed, even after calling twice to remind her. 3. Yesterday was suppose to be my daughters first driving lesson. At 10 minutes past the hour, no driving instructor had arrived. I telephoned Loreen, she said that she had no recollection of us speaking and that she certainly would not have scheduled driving instruction without payment. I DID pay, the same day that the invoice arrived, via PayPal. Which she discovered after looking at her payments. Her tone with me was condescending and rude. To finish out an otherwise long review; I understand that we all make mistakes. That life can be stressful and overwhelming. That being said, it would have been professional and humanly kind, for Loreen to apologize and make an attempt to remedy her error. Instead she has overbooked with other clients. After a couple telephone conversations, she is refunding me in cash today (I don't trust her to actually send a refund otherwise). People, integrity and kindness go a long way in this world. You will be pleasantly surprised how people lean into you, and are inspired by your light. Pay it forward here and there, and be kind. Take ownership if you have made a mistake and do your very best to remedy it. :-)

(don't pay too much attention to the other 1-Star reviews here, they are both from botched…read morescheduling issues and one wasn't even the company's fault. Their reviews have nothing to do with the actual drive test, so below is my FULL experience with SODE in Hillsboro) I can't say enough about how great my experience with SODE in Hillsboro was. I took my driver's test on 05-21-2026 with examiner Liz Harris, and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND choosing Ms. Harris as your examiner as well. First, I was able to schedule an appointment with them online immediately. I decided I wanted to take my test as soon as possible, and started looking for open spots on 05-20-2026 fairly late in the evening. I was able to schedule my test for the very next day!! And they had multiple spots open to choose from. The business was easy to find, clean, and very professionally setup. They have nice, clean, easy to drive company cars that you can use if you do not want to use your own vehicle, and that's what I chose to do. But, they make the process of using your own vehicle very easy as well, so long as it has good tags, insurance, and passes the inspection (blinkers, break lights, horn, clear windshield) nothing too crazy, just the standard stuff and you're good to go. I used one of their cars, and it was a great make and model for a drive test, large clear windows, no huge blind-spots, just a very smooth, comfortable ride. Liz Harris was my examiner and she was great at helping me to calm my nerves!! She was very professional, very specific and clear with her instructions, and made everything go quite smoothly. She didn't try to trick me or surprise me with unexpected instructions. She conducted herself like a true professional and didn't have crazy high expectations, nor did she make things too easy. It was a matter-of-fact, straightforward, professional experience. Basically, if you're prepared for your test and have done the work to know what you're doing on the road, there's no reason why you shouldn't pass!! Again, Liz Harris is highly recommended!!

I seriously never leave reviews....but here we are. It seems…read morelike Liz is the tester to avoid. We scheduled my son's drive test here. He was nervous to say the least. As soon as we walked in and I saw Liz, I could tell that she was not going to be a calm or kind presence. We were 10 minutes early and she stood there waiting at the counter as if she had been waiting all day. My son failed his test, which isn't even my issue. When bringing him back and asking him to park, he pulled through a spot and she commented "oh, taking the easy way out, huh?" Why is that type of comment necessary?? When she was giving me feedback on what his challenges were, she was rude and judgmental. She had drawn a diagram on her paper and I wanted to take a picture so that I could help my son understand in the future. As I took the picture she's like "yeah it's REALLY BAD." She continued on with more comments similar to that. A teenager who just failed their drive test does not need the instructor standing there with judgement and condescention. Her delivery was awful and her attitude was worse. I don't even think I could paint a full picture in this review. She was terrible. When we got home and looked into scheduling some drive lessons to make sure my son was fully prepared next time. The driving school that we talked to said that they have also heard nothing but bad things about the Hillsboro location of Southern Oregon Driver Education. The only reason I'm writing this review is so that other young kids don't have this experience. I want to say again that my issue is not that my son failed his drive test. It was the lack of professionalism and any sort of customer care. To be clear, people are paying for a service.
