This is the most incredible academy with the most incredible instructor, Brad! After going through two learner's permits and the fear of driving keeping me from pursuing my license, I was given a full course from this academy from my parents as a gift, with the hope I would finally learn to drive and get my license. (I did! Today!) First of all, the lessons are totally complete and comprehensive and teach you important information and skills about driving in an informed, relaxed, and active manner. Many, many people have tried to verbally explain driving to me, but none have succeeded until Brad. He uses relevant information, comparisons, and official material/info sheets - and as a trained instructor, is able to communicate them in a clear, easy-to-understand-and-implement way. Secondly, his mastery of explaining how to move the car and teaching you how to both "feel it" but also KNOW from reference points inside the car and outside of it where your car is and what your maneuver will do and where your car will end up totally changed how I understood how cars work and gave me the confidence to pull off maneuvers and continue learning new ones as they came up. Not only do you learn driving, but you truly learn how to understand cars, and learn skills that make it easier to transition from one car to another. Throughout these lessons, Brad kept wonderful fun casual conversation that helped ease the nerves and provide a light-spirited, calm, and fun learning environment. He never crossed any lines (a problem, as a young woman, I've had before with male instructors, but not Brad!) and always had something interesting to say - whether it was getting to know you personally as a student, or commenting on what was around you while you were driving to give you a sense of ease in car and road. Brad is very easy to warm up to and calm down around! He has an incredibly understanding, chill demeanor, and won't freak you out or get tense on you at all. If you want a stable, calm, fun, focused, knowledgeable instructor, this is for you! The driving locations were varied and easy to learn on, but still challenged you! Brad was obviously very familiar with the area, which meant he had great foreknowledge of the routes so you were always as prepared as you needed to be to navigate and pay attention to road conditions, laws, signs, etc. Brad was great at pushing me just hard enough and just the right way to put me outside my comfort zone (which I needed to do!!) without overwhelming me. I can't tell you how insistent I was I couldn't do certain things, and how many past instructors had caved to that insistence, but after teaching me the skills I needed to know, making sure I totally understood them, and practicing them, Brad through his experience was able to gauge I was way past ready to move on from where I was and pushed me to continue learning and go out on streets, freeways, etc. I was finally able to overcome my fears and have the knowledge to feel comfortable doing so and adapt, and I owe it to Brad to see that potential and to know what I was capable of and give me the skills to further my driving abilities. Brad was also incredibly flexible with scheduling - I can't tell you how many times my living situation changed, or my job changed, or I was out of town, or sick, or busy with the holidays, and Brad was always able to make our schedules work and get my lessons in. It really helped having the wiggle room to fit these lessons around my hectic schedule. Through my time there I saw him helping adults, young adults, teenagers, siblings and couples, teaching people how to drive from scratch, helping people with certain skillets or confidence in certain areas, helping people who had failed their license tests identify the areas they needed help in and work on, helping people from out of country learn how to drive in the US and get their US license. He really did everything! He was very open-minded and non-judgmental, both in your skills and your background. I met a student of his that didn't speak fluent English which totally didn't phase him, and I definitely brought up the fact I'm gay, which also didn't phase him. I felt totally comfortable and safe (which, again, is way more than I've ever experienced with instructors in the past). I never felt looked down upon or judged for my skills, lack of skills, fears, or things I thought I understood but didn't - I never felt like I was stupid. And Brad celebrated every success and worked confidently and kindly through any misunderstandings or failures, which created a positive driven environment! I absolutely loved these lessons - they were a joy to go to and something I always looked forward to. I can't believe the confidence they gave me! They were totally comprehensive, and if anyone needs to learn how to drive I'll absolutely be recommending Advantage Driving Academy! Words can't describe how highly I recommend Brad as a driving instructor for anyone (EVERYONE!) in need of driving instruction. As an adult who had never driven before, I was very nervous about driving, but my worries were immediately put to ease by Brad who was the perfect balance of guidance, patience and motivation when teaching me to drive on the road. Because of Brad, I no longer feel afraid of driving and am now a proudly licensed driver after passing my very first driving test! I purchased the Safe Driving Package which included 6 themed lessons covering all aspects of driving: reference points, neighborhood driving, Beaverton downtown driving, driving on hills and steep roads, freeway, and parking. The last lesson is a very helpful practice drive in which he tells you what to expect for the test and simulates drive test conditions. In between each lesson, I practiced driving with my boyfriend and clocked in close to 50 hours of practice time before I felt ready to take the test. All in all, I cannot recommend Brad highly enough as a driving instructor--the quality of instruction and affordability of his rates seriously brings him to the top of the list, you don't need to look elsewhere! He is very in demand though, so be sure to schedule in advance (I scheduled about a month in advance of my first lesson with him). We had a great experience with Advantage Driving Academy. My son was very nervous about driving and we didn't have any success teaching him ourselves. Brad did a great job. He was so accomodating and even fit my son into a last minute lesson before his test. We had a dramatic few tests--first one, my son used my mother's car and there was a turning light out so he automatically failed before he even got behind the wheel. Second time, we went to a private place (I don't recommend doing that) and he had to use the car they had and he touched a curb on a turn and failed. But the good news is that he passed the third time and he wasn't too freaked out about trying again. He's driving just fine now!!!! We highly recommend Advantage Driving Academy. I had such a fun, calm, and wonderful learning experience with Brad. He was always patient and clear and would also make the lessons a fun and enjoyable time. I am happy to say that I got my driver's license the first time I took the driving test, and all of Brad's advice was wonderful. I highly recommend Brad. My youngest son just passed his test with the highest score of the day. He is a confident, thoughtful and careful driver who knows more driving nuances than I do. This was a very medico experience. Scheduling was difficult to say the least. I ended up canceling my future lessons because I didn't want to deal with the hassle.
