I had RSVPed for Elite Week: Shawarma House prior to my Carlsbad trip. I was so excited I got confirmed in for it. Thank you so much Yelp, CM Hannah, and Shawarma House for putting together such a wonderful event. I appreciate the complimentary 1 entrée of choice off of the Elite Menu! Cool!! I only had one day to attend this event during my trip. I drove from Carlsbad to Ocean Beach... a good 40+ minutes. I barely made it... it was 30 minutes before closing time. Parking was a challenge, but got lucky with free street parking. Otherwise, I would have had to pay $14+ for lot parking. The Parking Goddess was on my side... thank you! Shawarma House is located in Ocean Beach, San Diego. I've never heard of this city until the event. Upon entry, the nice young gentleman, Mathios (son of the owner), greeted me with a big smile. He was very welcoming and hospitable. Thank you! The owner (his Dad) was cooking in the kitchen. It's a family business! I was so looking forward to trying their Chicken Shawarma Pita. Unfortunately, they ran out of chicken that night. Zilch... none was left. I ended up getting the Falafel Pita instead. They were nice to throw in a pita bread with hummus and a full container of yellow Shawarma rice (they had a lot left for the night). Thank you so much for the extra food. Falafel was perfectly deep fried on the outside. The inside was even better... very flavorful and surprisingly moist! I've never tasted chickpeas that good. It was a great quality falafel... probably the best I've ever eaten. Pita and hummus was delish. Yellow rice was very fluffy and good. I wanted to support the biz. Per Mathios's recommendation, I got a small tabouli salad which was very vibrant and flavorful. Yum! If I'm ever in the Ocean Beach area again, I'm definitely dropping by to try their other Mediterranean foods. Thanks again for this great experience!

    Falafels are huge!!

Finally got to check out the Yelp Elite experience at Shawarma House in Ocean Beach. Wow! What a gem! From the moment I walked in, I could already tell the reviews didn't lie. The staff is incredibly warm, welcoming, and clearly takes pride in what they do. I chatted with one of their employees, Mai who was an absolute ray of sunshine. She told me they have been open just this January and have received so much support from the community and neighboring businesses. Loved that! The owner, Sam was personable and was the one who also prepared my food. As a vegan, I was stoked to see options that weren't just "accommodating" but actually exciting! I opted for their falafels from the Elite Menu, and they totally hooked it up with two extra falafels, tabouli and Iraqi side salads! They also gave me two of their homemade hot sauces that were packed with flavor! Talk about hospitality! The vibe? Super chill. It was a weekday afternoon, hardly a wait, and I lucked out with parking just a few blocks away. OB is not my usual go-to, but the energy here is laid-back, buzzy, and full of character. Now let's talk falafels....MASSIVE and perfectly cooked. Crispy on the outside, tender and moist on the inside (yes, I said it!). The sides elevated the whole experience and everything was so fresh. Shoutout for the fast and flawless service. Ordered my food to-go, but I almost broke into it right there in the car but held out. I'll definitely be back to explore more of their menu. Big props to Shawarma House for catering to different dietary lifestyles without sacrificing flavor. Next time: vegan wraps, here I come! Thanks to our CM, Hannah as well for such a delicious treat for us Yelp Elites! :))

    Super Stellar Shawarma Staff!

I'm grateful I made it on the guest list. I always wanted to try Shawarma, a popular Middle Eastern dish. Thank you Hannah for making this connection in OB! As soon as I entered Shawarma House, the staff was super welcoming. I felt right at home at this family-owned restaurant...appreciating the stellar customer service I was experiencing. They had a lot of great options on the Yelp Menu but I decided to go with the Chicken Shwarma Pita. It was a pleasant surprise to run into other Yelp Elites. We dined in and enjoyed a delightful family-like meal together. OMG is all I can say in between bites....the food was plentiful and so flavorful! I got stuffed in a good way. Again thank you Shawarma House for your hospitality!! I highly recommend this hot spot to fellow Yelp Elites and the Yelp Community at large.

Came with my Yelp hubs, and as if our yummo beef shawarma pitas (choice of garlic or lemon sauce) accompanied by hummus and a spicy sauce on the side weren't generously portioned enough, the owner also surprised us with an addictively good, deep-fried beef shawarma egg roll! Avoided what I'm sure is a typically packed weekend house by arriving mid-afternoon, and sat at the open-air window counter to enjoy the ocean breeze. For a casual spot, service was absolutely amazing, with super friendly staff members continuously checking in on us. Thank you Shawarma House, Yelp, and CM Hannah N.!

Thank you to Shawarma House for hosting this event! :) I got the Beef Shawarma Pita from the event and also ordered the Beef Egg Roll! The Shawarma was solid, but I liked the egg rolls less - they were really oily while not being that crunchy for an egg roll. The employees were really friendly, and the store itself is open and really nice to sit in. However, wait times can be quite long and the prices seem quite steep as well. Still, I think this location is worth a try!

Yumm! Thanks Hannah and Shawarma House got some great food and for giving me a new excuse to go to OB more often! I got the Chicken and Beef Combo Pita Wrap, which was really good! I was surprised by the pickles, but they were fresh, crispy, and juicy so they only added to the overall flavor. Their homemade hot sauce wasn't spicy to me, but it was still extremely flavorful. The chef gave me their Chicken Eggroll to try and this was outstanding! It wasn't oily at all, which is very important to me. The flavor was incredible and, while it tasted great with their hot sauce, it is soo solid on its own that no sauces are needed to enjoy it.

Amazing food, amazing service! This is one of the first elite events I've been to in a while, and wow, it did not disappoint! Shawarma House has been so generous with its elite week/month and I am beyond grateful for the vegan options they offered! The Vegan Chicken Shawarma Pita Wrap was so juicy and flavorful. The hummus was very creamy and smooth, complementing the shawarma perfectly! Also, their french fries are probably some of the best I have had - and that says a lot from someone that is limited to only french fries at most restaurants! Staff was very welcoming and went above and beyond to ensure all patrons were enjoying their dining experience. Plenty of seating inside and outside! It's been two days and I am still thinking about how divine the food was! I cannot wait to come back and try the Vegan Shawarma Fries!

Sometimes I worry that when I have to drive far--in this case 2 hours--for events I may be biased to rate it more highly because of the anticipation and effort. However, in this case I think I would've loved the food and experience had it been ten miles away from home. The beef shawarma killed taste-wise--saucy, beefy, with just enough veggie and tangy nuances to enhance every bite. But I think the star of the meal was the beef egg roll. I would've ordered a full plate of it had I known. It was just chockfull of cheese and crunch and juiciness that I wish I hadn't scarfed it down in as few bites as I did. It was like a savory handful of bliss. The workers couldn't have been nicer and made sure multiple times that I was okay and in want for nothing. The space, while small, was still with a lot of character, especially as close to the beach as it was. You could feel that ocean air and walking market ambiance. I really could grow to love the area if I lived nearby. All in all, it was a successful jaunt down to San Diego with a memorable meal as the reward.

Thank you Yelp for this experience! I came for dinner on a weekday and it wasn't too busy in the area around this time. When I walked up and looked at the offerings in the Elite menu l, I was taken aback that there were so many options! I finally settled on a Chicken Shawarma Wrap which came with a side of hummus. I also got free pita chips as well! I also got to taste the Gyro pita and that thing was huge! It was generous and nicely seasoned. It came with a side of tzatziki sauce. They even served the dishes to me outside in the patio and frequently checked to see if I was okay. They even packed my hummus in a container to go and topped it off with more hummus! The owner and staff are so grateful for the business and so welcoming. I would definitely come back again to try out their other dishes.

What a great place to check out! The inside is small and parking can be tough but the food makes up for it! The yelp menu just had an option of wraps, I ordered the chicken wrap and also ordered chicken and beef egg rolls, falafel and a gyro plate. The egg rolls stole the show, they were incredible! The beef egg roll was my favorite the sauce on it was so flavorful as well. The falafel was huge and very delicious. The chicken wrap was HUGE and was okay but a bit dry and bland, i think if it had more sauce it would have been perfect. Service was great and everyone was so friendly and food came out fast! So happy to of been able to check this spot out. Thanks again!

Came on a Wednesday! Wow super busy because of the farmers market so be prepared to look for parking. It's a nice little restaurant. The staff was very kind. For the Yelp item-I selected the chicken shawarma as it's the most popular. The portion size is pretty good because I only ate half and got full. I will say I'm not a chicken person but I tried it. It was good but a bit dry for me. I think it did need some sauce with it (which during our meal they brought us some garlic sauce and hot sauce which was really good!) I selected a side of the tabouli salad and just loved that so much! It was so refreshing and the perfect amount. That was probably my favorite item and I love that it's so healthy. Ordered additionally the combo plate for my man. It came with the chicken, gyro, and steak. Wow the gyro was so soft and tasty. That was my second favorite item. The chicken again was a bit dry for me (maybe just that day?). I do like that they cut them up in small pieces. For me I like small bites not chunky. His also came with a salad and hummus which were both great. And pita on the side. I will say the pita is a bit thinner than I'm used to so for me I could do without it. They had a large variety of drinks to choose from and I didn't know they just opened in January. My man really liked the restaurant and said he'd come back. I definitely want to try some of the other items that aren't typically on menus. I saw a man eat a lamb shank! I asked him and he's a regular there! I like the open window seating as well and it let air into the room. I will see, the fan is under the light and with it on made it flicker. So kinda hurt my eyes a little. Overall I give this a 4.5/5 but there's no .5 options so round up to a five. I could see them interacting with other customers and they were all so nice. That's a plus in my books!

    Monique L.

Wow! They were so kind. I ordered a Pita Falafel as a Yelp Elite and a side of fries as a separate customer. The fries were phenomenal. I love crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. I wasn't a fan of my pita but that's okay. Next time I would probably try something like the beef or chicken pita. When I was getting ready to go, they gave me a side of tabouli salad and a side of iraqi salad. I wouldn't even know these unless I had been able to try them. I really like the iraqi salad. I appreciate the opportunity to try new things when I can.

Thank you Shawarma House/Mathios and Yelp/Hannah for putting together this OB Mediterranean elite experience together! Mathios was friendly and helpful during my dine in and checked in with me to see how everything was with I appreciated as I learned about their ingredients, their in house food preparation, and techniques. My beef pita wrap was packed with fresh veggies, flavorful ribeye, and a delightfully creamy and pungent garlic paste. The pita for the wrap is astonishingly thin and crisp. The tart chili dipping sauce is a zesty companion. The side of tabouli was refreshingly herbaceous and tart.

My fire was fueled by the choices we had available: an elixer shooter, a juice or smoothie, a superbowl or toast, and a coffee beverage on nitro! All courtesy of Vitality Tap and the NCSD Elite Team. Trying the following items added some pep to my step... The All Day Energy Shooter added vigor to start the day! MSM, ginseng, cordyceps mushroom, green coffee, bean, organic juice and coconut water. The So Citrus Juice drove my cold away! Antioxidant rich, immunity kick and weight loss. Grapefruit, orange, pineapple and Fuji apple. The Tropical Superbowl added a punch to the afternoon! I couldn't even choose a favorite - as they were all so delicious in their own way! Thank you to VT and Andy at Yelp for your wonderful elan! Pros: lots of alcohol, super friendly vendors, San Pellegrino everywhere to keep you hydrated, nicely decorated with Day of Dead photo ops, fresh hot tacos (all delicious) with fancy toppings, restaurants from TJ, Mexicali, SD, variety of tacos from lengua to Thai to ahi to salmon, free parking, nice variety of alcohol from sangria to beer to wine to hard cider. Cons: long lines, waste of plates, no table tops/belly ups or seats unless part of VIP section, no dessert booths, lots of empty booths and/or vendors ran out of food before 2:00. But getting to go for free makes me even embarrassed to bring up the cons. Truly it was a great event. Liberty Station was a great venue for this because it was spacious for the amount of people in attendance. Tix were sold out. Parking is easy and free. Only caveat: I didn't check out restrooms or see them but I do wish there were handwashing stations around. Some vendors were eating with the same gloved hands they were serving from.

AWARENESS: Knowing the family and I would be staying close…read moreto Liberty Station during the week of April 21, 2019. I checked out not only Yelp events but, the Liberty Station website to se what was happening around the time of our visit. Yelp had a few events, most of those were for the over 21 crowd but, the Liberty Station site showed they were to host their 1st "Taste of Liberty Station" event and, it was open to all ages. NARRATIVE: The Taste of Liberty Station was held on Thursday, April 24, 2019 from 5 until 9 pm. Tickets were available for advanced purchase online at a discounted rate. Day of the event tickets were also offered with an additional cost of around $5 dollars. My family and I purchased our tickets prior to the event and I was able to download each ticket to my iPhone via the Liberty Station website. SCENE: Liberty Station is located in the Point Loma area of San Diego and occupies what was once the Navy Recruit Training Center and Naval Training Center. In fact, most the buildings playing host to the various shops and restaurants on Liberty Station are the old barracks and schools the Navy once owned and used from 1923 until 1997 when the base and buildings were sold to the City of San Diego. EVIDENCE: The event started off when we were handed a "roadmap" flyer. The flyer had a route map and a check box from the restaurants and shops participating in the event. As you entered each shop or restaurant for your bite size sample or taste. An employee would check off your stop in the box provided. Over 27 restaurants / shops participated in the event. I also noticed and actually snapped a picture of paper bags along the route which were filled with sand and a candle. These were placed along the route to show guest the path (route) to take the next stop. IMO, pretty cleaver. Over the years, my family and I have enjoyed eating at the many restaurants in and around Point Loma and Liberty Station but, I was still surprised a few times today after sampling a few places I had seen but never tried. All the sample of food at the various restaurants were plentiful and tasty. I was also happy to see all of the many employees and volunteers with smiles on their faces as they interacted with guest. In some instances, I even got some of the employees to laugh at my weak jokes. RECOMMENDATION(S): What can I say. Great weather. Great people and, a great location. With this being the first of its kind at Liberty Station. I think those responsible for putting the event together did an awesome job! I am sure with todays success, this event and more like it will take place in the future and when it does. I will be right here to watch, eat and smile.

Thank you Danny and Trish, this was another nicely executed function, we both had a great time, and it makes for a perfect excuse to get out mid week and check out a new place. I will be back!

I obviously won't be giving my review of the beer, but the girls in my party definitely liked theirs. The brewery is nice because it has the outdoor patio area, unusual especially for the breweries in a business park. Got chilly toward closing, but not too buggy. The fire pit wasn't lit, because it's warm weather. It would be nice in the winter months out in the yard with the fire going! The food from Mexico City was great! The $5 Yelp deals were an awesome bargain! I had the nachos with carne, and I couldn't finish mine because they were huge. I'm looking forward to the next one! Thanks to Trish, Bill, Andy, and Chang for a fun time!

Nothing brings people together better than delicious food and drinks. At the flower field for the "best of north county food festival". This is my very first time attending a food festival, it won't be my last for sure. Tips for the event: arrive at least 15 minutes early to wait in line. Always go with a group of friends, it is more fun. They have dancing music so wear dancing shoes if possible. Dancing is good after eating buffet-style food. wink. Fun atmosphere, good to try out local restaurants you have never been to. Some of them are newly opened.

The both decided that our favorite was that ceviche with watermelon from the Wrench and Rodent seaabasstropub. Now I am so looking forward going to that semi new restaurant! Volterra wine and generous paella did not disappoint either, and neither did Cafe Secret and the citrusy ceviches that were so refreshing! Music was very good too, tines for all tastes and everybody dancing and having a good time. I got to know several new spas an beauty salons for me, so the list of new stuff to try grew as much as the warmth in the cold night. San Diego magazine offered tons of the latest issue, so I got a couple of them to share the joy of our city many beauties with others. Great event overall with plenty of food and drinks forb every body.

It was quite the drive to get up to the Carlsbad Gateway on the final day of this weeklong…read morepromotion at Surf Up Chicken. The business was located in a suite next door to a gelato shop, both of which were in this random industrial park. I wonder with its remote location, how much customer traffic it can generate from beyond the neighbors in this complex? Anyway, a bonus was that parking was super easy. Upon entering and checking in with the cashier to mark my name off the magic list, she informed me that each of us had a $15 credit to select anything off the menu. I really loved the flexibility of this offer as it opened up the possibilities. Normally, an Elite promotion is for one or two specified items. The offerings were obviously heavy on chicken, however I noticed some non-chicken grub like crispy shrimp, Filipino spaghetti, a veggie egg roll, and even Belgian waffles. My picks were the two middle entries out of the six in the Specialties section... Chicken & Waffles and Chicken Curry. They conveniently added up to $14.95. The first container had four mini waffles combined with around a dozen pieces of chicken nuggets. A self-service condiments station was available that provided ketchup and four different sauces with clearly marked signage of each name and flavor profile. I used the Golden Chicken Dip for the nuggets to add a sweet and smoky enhancement to the bits of white meat. The second bowl had white rice as a base with chicken, broccoli, and carrots in a curry sauce that was mild in heat and spices. Two slices of yellow pickled daikon (takuan) were included on the side. The mix made for a nice savory snack. Thank you to the owners and staff at Surf Up Chicken for introducing a group of Elites to your eatery. The combination of Asian fusion and Southern-style flavors was unique. Thanks also to Audrey and Yelp North County San Diego for identifying a new local, family-run business to host an Elite Week Event.

Just call me the Merry Maker!…read more We have been attending this event since it's humble beginnings, both the Holiday and Spring shows. All I can say is that it gets better and bigger each year. I preferred when they changed up the event locations, as some did allow dogs. I've always heard the Port wouldn't but there were many there on this bright sunny December day. Service dogs, questionable. The first year at Port Pavilion, the security guard let us in to run and take a photo with our dog at the photo booth, then we were able to sit outside, eat and have a cocktail. My husband let me roam the booths. Handmade and well priced deals, there is live music and a DIY craft bar. I worked with a couple who were selling their product. Impressive, they paired up with Hugh Jackman and his coffee company and they added their own custom candle. They have provided to the Golden Globes. There was not just one photo booth this year, but there were two, You could double your fun. We chose the Camera Camper as it's been my favorite photo booth to date, experienced it at one of my favorite Yelp events. Also, I am a bit suspicious of a Santa who looks to young. Santa's little helper though, I got a kick out watching her look and laugh at the photos. All I can say is "Oh, what fun for days". Its time for cotton candy and cookies made of real butter, consumer spending on handmade goods, truly merriment at it's finest. #SanDiego #MakersArcade #MerryGoodTime #RealHandmadeGoods #FakeServiceDogs
