The S.O. came along to order a Beef Shawarma plate as an extra add-on (plus a beer). The Chicken Cream Chop inside the pita had an enjoyable crunch, so clearly fried fresh. Breading a little loose, however, and the pita was not warmed up. The S.O.'s beef shawarma plate was sadly disastrous since it was quite literally cold in temperature. Food came out fast, but some things were clearly reheated on the grill and could have used extra time to transfer some joy. I can't believe I never posted my draft! This was hands down one of the best Elite experiences I've had. I came here on a very rainy day, very pregnant, but very much prepared to have a very enjoyable meal to enjoy at home. Parking was easy to find, as I came during the middle of the week a little after lunch time. Parking spot was street parking and in a timed spot, but service was so quick I was in & out in a short amount of time. The staff was some of the friendliest I've ever experienced. It was my birthday, & the manager Alex threw in a drink for me as a birthday present . The entire time I was there (and as long as there weren't other guests to attend to) the cashier was super friendly giving me all the tips for becoming a girl Mom. Located in the heart of downtown Ocean Beach, Shawarma House was a great treat on a lovely Saturday afternoon! Thanks so much Hannah, the rest of the Yelp Team, and everyone from Shawarma House. I came with my best friend, and we both ordered the Chicken Shawarma. Found all the veggies in the wrap and the chicken delicious. The red sauce was a great touch too. I had RSVPed for Elite Week: Shawarma House prior to my Carlsbad trip. I was so excited I got confirmed in for it. Thank you so much Yelp, CM Hannah, and Shawarma House for putting together such a wonderful event. I appreciate the complimentary 1 entrée of choice off of the Elite Menu! Cool!! I only had one day to attend this event during my trip. I drove from Carlsbad to Ocean Beach... a good 40+ minutes. I barely made it... it was 30 minutes before closing time. Parking was a challenge, but got lucky with free street parking. Otherwise, I would have had to pay $14+ for lot parking. The Parking Goddess was on my side... thank you! Shawarma House is located in Ocean Beach, San Diego. I've never heard of this city until the event. Upon entry, the nice young gentleman, Mathios (son of the owner), greeted me with a big smile. He was very welcoming and hospitable. Thank you! The owner (his Dad) was cooking in the kitchen. It's a family business! I was so looking forward to trying their Chicken Shawarma Pita. Unfortunately, they ran out of chicken that night. Zilch... none was left. I ended up getting the Falafel Pita instead. They were nice to throw in a pita bread with hummus and a full container of yellow Shawarma rice (they had a lot left for the night). Thank you so much for the extra food. Falafel was perfectly deep fried on the outside. The inside was even better... very flavorful and surprisingly moist! I've never tasted chickpeas that good. Finally got to check out the Yelp Elite experience at Shawarma House in Ocean Beach. Wow! What a gem! From the moment I walked in, I could already tell the reviews didn't lie. The staff is incredibly warm, welcoming, and clearly takes pride in what they do. I chatted with one of their employees, Mai who was an absolute ray of sunshine. She told me they have been open just this January and have received so much support from the community and neighboring businesses. Loved that! The owner, Sam was personable and was the one who also prepared my food. As a vegan, I was stoked to see options that weren't just "accommodating" but actually exciting! I opted for their falafels from the Elite Menu, and they totally hooked it up with two extra falafels, tabouli and Iraqi side salads! They also gave me two of their homemade hot sauces that were packed with flavor! Talk about hospitality! The vibe? Super chill. It was a weekday afternoon, hardly a wait, and I lucked out with parking just a few blocks away. OB is not my usual go-to, but the energy here is laid-back, buzzy, and full of character. Now let's talk falafels....MASSIVE and perfectly cooked. Crispy on the outside, tender and moist on the inside (yes, I said it!). The sides elevated the whole experience and everything was so fresh. As soon as I entered Shawarma House, the staff was super welcoming. I felt right at home at this family-owned restaurant...appreciating the stellar customer service I was experiencing. I barely made it! Today was the last day, and thankfully I got to sneak over! The friendly gentleman kindly smiled when I mentioned the Yelp Elite meal. I got beef schawarma pita, which was wondeful! The pita was wrapped tightly and pan fried, giving it a nice hot crispy texture while still being soft and fluffy inside. The inside was stuffed beef schwarma, tender, juicy, and delicious! The veggies and pickled goodies inside made a perfect balance. I normally would've preferred some tziziki or some sort of garlic yogurt sauce, but I think this is Iraqi cuisine which might not include that. The Shawarma was solid, but I liked the egg rolls less - they were really oily while not being that crunchy for an egg roll. Amazing food, amazing service! This is one of the first elite events I've been to in a while, and wow, it did not disappoint! Shawarma House has been so generous with its elite week/month and I am beyond grateful for the vegan options they offered! The Vegan Chicken Shawarma Pita Wrap was so juicy and flavorful. The hummus was very creamy and smooth, complementing the shawarma perfectly! Also, their french fries are probably some of the best I have had - and that says a lot from someone that is limited to only french fries at most restaurants! Sometimes I worry that when I have to drive far--in this case 2 hours--for events I may be biased to rate it more highly because of the anticipation and effort. However, in this case I think I would've loved the food and experience had it been ten miles away from home. The beef shawarma killed taste-wise--saucy, beefy, with just enough veggie and tangy nuances to enhance every bite. But I think the star of the meal was the beef egg roll. I would've ordered a full plate of it had I known. It was just chockfull of cheese and crunch and juiciness that I wish I hadn't scarfed it down in as few bites as I did. It was like a savory handful of bliss. The workers couldn't have been nicer and made sure multiple times that I was okay and in want for nothing. The space, while small, was still with a lot of character, especially as close to the beach as it was. You could feel that ocean air and walking market ambiance. When I walked up and looked at the offerings in the Elite menu l, I was taken aback that there were so many options! I finally settled on a Chicken Shawarma Wrap which came with a side of hummus. I also got free pita chips as well! I also got to taste the Gyro pita and that thing was huge! It was generous and nicely seasoned. It came with a side of tzatziki sauce. What a great place to check out! The inside is small and parking can be tough but the food makes up for it! The yelp menu just had an option of wraps, I ordered the chicken wrap and also ordered chicken and beef egg rolls, falafel and a gyro plate. The egg rolls stole the show, they were incredible! The beef egg roll was my favorite the sauce on it was so flavorful as well. The falafel was huge and very delicious. Came on a Wednesday! Wow super busy because of the farmers market so be prepared to look for parking. It's a nice little restaurant. The staff was very kind. For the Yelp item-I selected the chicken shawarma as it's the most popular. The portion size is pretty good because I only ate half and got full. I will say I'm not a chicken person but I tried it. It was good but a bit dry for me. I think it did need some sauce with it (which during our meal they brought us some garlic sauce and hot sauce which was really good!) I selected a side of the tabouli salad and just loved that so much! It was so refreshing and the perfect amount. That was probably my favorite item and I love that it's so healthy. Ordered additionally the combo plate for my man. It came with the chicken, gyro, and steak. Wow the gyro was so soft and tasty. That was my second favorite item. The chicken again was a bit dry for me (maybe just that day?). I do like that they cut them up in small pieces. For me I like small bites not chunky. His also came with a salad and hummus which were both great. And pita on the side. I will say the pita is a bit thinner than I'm used to so for me I could do without it. They had a large variety of drinks to choose from and I didn't know they just opened in January. My man really liked the restaurant and said he'd come back. I definitely want to try some of the other items that aren't typically on menus. I saw a man eat a lamb shank! I asked him and he's a regular there! I like the open window seating as well and it let air into the room. I will see, the fan is under the light and with it on made it flicker. So kinda hurt my eyes a little. Wow! They were so kind. I ordered a Pita Falafel as a Yelp Elite and a side of fries as a separate customer. The fries were phenomenal. I love crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle. I wasn't a fan of my pita but that's okay. Next time I would probably try something like the beef or chicken pita. The food was excellent. I wish they were a little closer to my work and I would go here more often. Staff was friendly and helpful. I had the shawarma portions pita, and it was excellent and the sides were great too (I don't always like that kind of stuff). Lots of flavors in this meal. There's no meter but I did saw a parking enforcement officer driving around checking cars and writing tickets. So, heads up for the ones who want to hang out in the area after dining. One thing I loved is they have an indoor bar that faces outward so you can look outside while enjoying your meal. We were welcomed in by the owner when we came into the restaurant, and he took the time to explain to us some of the most popular items and gave us some really good recommendation. It was incredibly difficult to choose, because everything looked so good! We ended up getting the Shawarma portion (chicken and beef) with pita and a side of their absolutely divine eggrolls. It matches the vibe in Ocean Beach- just chill and more of a whole in a wall joint. That's how you know you're getting some good shawarma. They were even so nice to get us a sample of their shawarma eggrolls. Oh my gosh, one of the best things texture-wise I have ever put in my mouth lol! The wrapper was kind of crunchy and bubbly on the outside -- which made for the perfect crunch factor. The inside was filled with either beef or chicken shawarma, (you really can't go wrong with either!) and topped with a drizzle of some garlic yogurt. I got the Gyro wrap in a pita bread. I ordered the Beef Shawarma Pita and while waiting for the food, the owner sent me a free sample of their Beef Shawarma Egg Roll and man, I was really considering ordering some after devouring it. It's so crispy and the garlic paste was amazing. Because I liked the paste so much, they gave me a side of it but I'm not sure if it's normally free or if you'd have to pay extra. There isn't much seating inside, maybe 4 tables and a couple of counter seats along the window. There were a couple of tables outside but not all of them are shaded. When I visited, there was a nice breeze coming from outside but it feels like it can get kind of stuffy inside because of the open-kitchen design. The Beef Shawarma Pita is huge and I couldn't finish it in one sitting! It's a little messy to eat since it's not fully closed on both ends. Schwarma house is truly the home of delicious schwaramas run by an incredible family. As soon as I entered, I was greeted by the friendly staff and enveloped in an aroma of mouthwatering food. I ended up going with the beef schwarma which was way bigger than I thought and would give a cali burrito a run for its money. The ingredients were fresh and I loved how crispy the schwarma wrap was. How generous of the owner to extend this Elite Week Event to a duration of over a month long! I hope many more Elites take advantage of the added time to redeem the offer. We arrived for a weekday lunch on the first week of the promotion. Parking on Newport Ave was not bad at all because of the time of the day. I had visited Shawarma House when it first opened at the beginning of this year.so I was familiar with the location. After getting our names crossed off the magic list, a Yelp Elite menu was handed to us. Not only did we get to select one of the eight pita wraps, but we were also allowed to pick one of four sides. Both of my selections contained Beef Shawarma in the form of a pita wrap and an egg roll. The pita was divided in half and wrapped in aluminum foil. Two egg rolls were sliced into smaller portions and served on a separate plate. A dish of hummus and a cup of hot sauce were also provided. Compared to last time, the beef in the wrap was not as moist. The hummus was still smooth and creamy. The egg rolls were a big hit as they came hot and fresh out of the fryer and were very crunchy. My friend ordered the Portion Egg Roll which was half beef shawarma and half chicken shawarma. Thank you to Mathios and the staff for hosting this Elite Event at Shawarma House. Tried this place two weeks ago . Friendly staff, and I really like their selection of beverages. In addition to getting a portion wrap, which is half beef half chicken I also purchased chicken kebab plate ($20) as well as a side of gyro. ($9) . Even with the sauces on the side, the meat was dry and the quality of the hummus and the rice and meat overall was just not to my standard . I tried to think about maybe this was due to the fact that I recently ate at a bit more expensive restaurant that served Mediterranean but even still I've had kebabs and plates around the $10-$15 mark that I think were less dry and higher quality. A great ratio of deliciously marinated beef shawarma to crunchy veggies and tahini sauce all wrapped up in a thin pita. I smiled as I took every bite, giving gratitude to the food of my homeland. The tabbouleh and shirazi salad were also delicious!! I've gotta highlight the tabbouleh and, again, say that THIS is the way to make tabbouleh; parsley forward, refreshing, and the perfect amount of lemony citrus. I was also generously gifted a side of the egg rolls which were SO DELICIOUS!!! There's nothing like a bite of golden fried delicious stuffed with beef and chicken shawarma, dipped in their beautifully balanced hot sauce. The staff here is so friendly! As soon as you walk in, you can smell how yummy the food is. We ordered the Beef Shawarma Pita and a side salad -- very flavorful and delicious!! Its on the main OB strip which is convenient for all locals and events going by, I'll definitely be back to try more! read more

I went on a Saturday lunch and my service was fast and they were very friendly. I got the chicken gyro, beef shwarma egg rolls, and baklava. The chicken Gyro was huge. I had to split it into two meals The beef shwarma egg rolls were a really fun twist on an egg roll. It might the best egg roll that I have had I couldn't resist getting baklava and I am glad that I did. Fair warning : Parking in this area can be hard especially during summer read more

Although the Shish Tawook wasn't part of it- I appreciate your patience for answering my questions about which spices were in that dish and explaining the origins of Shish Tawook versus Shish Kabob! It caught hubby and I by surprise when your kindness extended a beef and chicken egg roll. The baklava was moist, soft, and drenched in pistachio syrup. There was no way I could finish my beef shawarma in one sitting. So, when I had the other half for lunch at work the next day- it held its flavor. A new Mediterranean restaurant in the area - very exciting! Especially since the portions look HUGE. can't wait to try it! Huge thank you to Shawarma House and its workers for hosting this event, and to our CM, Hannah, for putting this together! I was debating between the Gyro or Beef but ended up choosing their Beef Shawarma Pita. Honestly, I wished I chose the gyro one LOL. The beef shawarma was a bit bland and lacking flavor in my opinion. I only got one small container of this spicy-ish sauce which really helped with flavor. My boyfriend got their Chicken Shawarma, and it was much more flavorful than the beef. The shawarmas were huge though! About a foot long like the Subway back in the day. That was a huge plus for the price the shawarmas cost. We also got their Baklava on the side (2 for $7) and that was very good! Nice crunch, flavor, and sweetness (tad too sweet for me but that's how baklavas usually are, haha). Yum! They were a bit smaller than the ones I've had in the past but honestly the deliciousness made up for the size. I would love to come back to try their gyro shawarma to compare to the beef next time!
