Our dogs were kept in the basement where we were not allowed to go. Neither one of them ate while we were gone and we were not notified of this and they both had developed diarrhea. No one told us anything until we picked them up! So we went to pick them up after we got back from Texas and could see that something was very wrong. They each had lost 4 lbs!!! The older one was so weak that by the next day she could not stand. We took her to the emergency vet in Coon Rapids where they gave her some IV fluids and prescribed some medication. We were lucky that she made it. Our other dog pulled through okay. The Bed and Bone is not a good place for dogs and there is no communication about your dog. After this incident, I never boarded my dogs again but used Rover to have someone come to the house and stay with them. I highly recommend them. It might cost more but it's worth it, not just in price but in care, plus you're not paying an emergency vet bill. Its a bad bad bad place!

Then when I moved back to the cities 5 years ago, I started taking him to the Barrington Oaks/Elk River Clinic. (It's worth the drive!). Dr. Sara has been amazing! She is patient, kind, caring and loving with Max. She has always been honest with me about his current needs and what his future needs may be. (He's had/has quite a few medical issues). She really listens to my concerns, answers all my questions so I understand everything and makes me feel at ease! Max loves her and trusts her.. Max will be turning 15 years old in January, but people think he's so much younger! Max and I appreciate her and everything she's done for us in the past years. Actually, I have to make an appointment right now for a check-up. See you soon Dr. Sara! Thank you Barrington Oaks!! Pam & 'Max' Miner

after years of their overpriced treatment for a medically fragile 21 (at time of death) cat, they…read moresent a palm plant as a "condolence". there was no card with the name of the plant, so i called barrington oaks to find out what kind of palm it was. certain palms are literally DEADLY to cats . . . and i just wanted to be sure, yanno? i was told they had no idea what type of plant it was, that they left that up to the plant company's discretion. i asked how they could leave such a potentially deadly decision up to a third party distributor? their response was if i was "so concerned to just bin the plant" so, due to my direct concern, their sensitive customer service (HA!) person decided (again, after YEARS of treatment at costs literally three times or more than the current treatment another medically fragile cat is receiving at another vet) that my concern was enough to warrant a "do not see" tag. well - jokes on them. we only used them for their extremely close proximity to the house in case of emergencies, and a "do not see" affects them only, as the other 9 animals in the household have, and are being seen (for five years now) at a vet that is way better, and much more affordable. prior to arriving in this town, i had seen another cat and dog vet for 22 years, and an actual CVA bird vet for 12 - so i know it wasn't ME. bottom line . . . barrington oaks is three, sometimes four, times as expensive, are not really that great of a vet hospital, they have a lady that "sees" birds there that charges CVA prices, but is not, in fact, a CVA (CERTIFIED AVAIN VET) and are so extremely sensitive with client concerns that if you so much as question anything of, for, or by them . . . they just can't handle that. if you have money to throw away while being expected to kiss their ass without any questions what so ever- have at it. but you have been warned.

I've been generally very happy with the level of care at Companions Animal Hospital. The staff is…read moreknowledgeable, compassionate, and thorough, and I appreciate that they are AAHA accredited -- something only a small percentage of clinics achieve. That accreditation really matters when it comes to emergencies or situations requiring surgery, because it means they follow strict standards for safety, anesthesia, cleanliness, diagnostics, and medical protocols. If you want top‑tier care for serious or urgent issues, this is absolutely the place to be. I was offered one of their Canine Wellness Packages, and while the flyer was helpful, I didn't receive much detail about the terms, conditions, or exclusions beyond what was printed. I like to fully understand what I'm signing up for, especially when it comes to annual plans. I purchased the $432 Wellness Package, which includes two comprehensive wellness exams, two intestinal parasite screenings, internal organ function screening, and 5% off additional services. The flyer shows there is also a $663 Enhanced Package, but I wasn't offered that option during my visit. For reference, I spent $3,557.73 last year on my middle‑aged chiweenie, and the wellness plan saved me $1,404.59 -- which is impressive for a healthy dog with no chronic conditions. She only had a few minor issues like diarrhea from eating something she shouldn't have. I can see how this plan might be even more valuable for dogs with chronic medical needs, but for my situation, it was still a meaningful savings. Companions also accepts direct pay from Trupanion, which makes expensive emergencies far less stressful because you don't have to pay everything upfront. They also accept CareCredit, which is helpful if you need assistance with payments. I also really like their app -- being able to chat with staff and book appointments directly is incredibly convenient. That said, due to financial reasons, I'll only be bringing my dog to Companions for true emergencies going forward. For routine vaccinations and annual checkups, I recommend looking into a prepaid plan through Petco's Vital Care Premier, which offers unlimited exams and discounted vaccinations at a much lower cost. Overall, Companions Animal Hospital provides excellent care, especially for emergencies or complex medical needs. Their AAHA accreditation gives me confidence, and their staff has always treated my dog with kindness and professionalism.

I asked about extra services and was told that since it was going to be such a busy weekend that he wouldn't need anything, and she talked me out of the extras. When I picked him up, I was shocked at how badly he smelled of urine. There is no doubt that they just left him to lay in his own urine the whole time I was gone. The smell was so bad that I had to drive home with the windows down and then took him straight into the shower when we arrived. I don't know if he got any attention or if he was actually let out at all. The urine smell suggests that he wasn't. They could have done so much better. I would not recommend that anyone leave their pets here.
