Anyway, this weekend I headed to this AL post in Arlington Heights because I saw they were having one. There were lots of folks there--it's popular! For $10 ($5 for kids & veterans) there's eggs, hash browns, pancakes, French toast, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, and fruit. Water, orange juice, and coffee as well. I think it's advertised as all you can eat and they did have quite a lot of food when I got there around 11:10. It was very good, folks were friendly, and I'd go again. There's a good deal of parking along the surrounding streets so that wasn't a problem. They host this breakfast once monthly from 9 am - noon, so I may be back soon.

The casino is super clean, there's plenty of parking, and the staff is really friendly and helpful. The drink service was good and the food was surprisingly delicious. Everything is organized well and it's honestly a really fun place to spend an evening. Now... let's talk about those machines. They were absolutely ruthless to me and happily accepted every dollar I fed them. Meanwhile, my husband somehow walked away $500 richer, which I'm still trying to process. Apparently the machines only like him. Even though the slots clearly had a personal vendetta against me, we still had a great time and will probably be back (because hope springs eternal when it comes to casinos). Nevertheless, if it was, it wasn't outside skirt steak. It was the toughest, chewiest piece of meat. It had to be an inside skirt, and to charge $32 for about 6 oz of shit, is a joke. I can get American Wagyu inside skirt at $6-7/lb; yet, the only time I'd serve inside skirt, is diced up in a taco. I would never charge someone the same price I just paid the night before at Perry's for a small filet, for inside skirt. Then again, I would never serve inside skirt as an entree. Also ordered panna cotta, which is a creamy custard. Evidently, they don't know this. You shouldn't go to take a scoop and the whole amount in the bowl moves. They used so much gelatin, that it was just a solid mass. The chocolate tart is just meh. The apps were decent. The ciobatta was good, the sausage meatballs were tasty, slightly too dense tho. The fried shrimp cocktail, do not recommend. They were small, super flat butterflied, and perfectly consistent in size (prob 35-40/#) directly out of a bag, frozen, cheap crap. If you want to do a fried shrimp, use larger shrimp, bread it yourself, have a little pride. We really thought we would be making this place a part of our rotation, but after last night's meal, we will not. One good note, our server was good, sarcastic (which we like when they can joke around), but should've taken us a little more seriously about the steak.

Another year, another Itasca Fest…read more We live minutes from the Itasca border, so getting here is a breeze. And so is parking -- though you do have to be willing to walk a block or two. But downtown Itasca is lovely. I think most people, if they drove through this little village of 8,300 people, would not expect very big happenings. But Itasca Fest is pretty impressive for the size of the town. Free admission, and there's a huge carnival, a big tent set up with plenty of tables for noshing at and a stage with live entertainment, bingo, a rummage sale, educational events for the kids (including interacting with wild animals) and of course plenty of greasy food to go around. Last year, there was a super-cool NASA trailer set up where you could play with various gadgets and learn about life in a spaceship. Honestly, I enjoyed it as much as the kid with us did. Unfortunately, no NASA trailer this year. Still, four stars for a solidly good time nearby and on the cheap.

We started here on Sunday night, the last night of the fest. Bingo is run by the Lyons Club and they do a great job of keeping the natives restless while having some personality. The guy working our row was awesome, was so friendly. Cards are 3 for a dollar and my dreams were crushed when I saw they were the sliders and not the stamp kind of cards. I was really looking forward to having a big purple stamper to dot up my cards. Each round of Bingo could win somewhere between $50-$70 but alas, I didn't have any luck. The final round was a cover-all game and cards were $1 each. The jackpot for that final round was above the $200 mark. In order to entertain us before the final round (and possibly because it was the last night of the fest, we were able to get as many free drinks as we wanted before the last game). I spent about $13 total on an hour of Bingo, which I don't consider to be too much of a loss. Did I really just write about Bingo for a full paragraph? Back to the fest. They have about 8-10 vendors for food including local restaurants. Rides are plentiful here, I couldn't even guess how many. Upwards of a dozen? Games were also not scarce, and they had all the classic games. I ended up winning myself a stuffed monkey. It's what every 29 year old adult female needs. I can only compare Itasca fest to Bartlett fest or Naperville's Rib Fest. I would probably prefer Itasca fest over both because it has WAY more games and rides than Bartlett, and isn't as crowded as Rib Fest. It's a new summer tradition.

They were a bit elevated, so we saw the stage very well while standing (except when a tall dude stood in front of us for awhile, but c'est la vie). There was a bar and the line seemed to move pretty fast. We didn't use the restrooms, but they were clearly marked. My only complaint would be that there's a long staircase you need to climb to get to the concert space. Not the most friendly for those with disabilities or difficulty climbing steps. Also feels like it could be a bit of a hazard in the wrong conditions. Otherwise, great place!
