I wish I could give this place one star because the slot machines took all my money... but unfortunately I can't because everything else was actually great. The casino is super clean, there's plenty of parking, and the staff is really friendly and helpful. The drink service was good and the food was surprisingly delicious. Everything is organized well and it's honestly a really fun place to spend an evening. Now... let's talk about those machines. They were absolutely ruthless to me and happily accepted every dollar I fed them. Meanwhile, my husband somehow walked away $500 richer, which I'm still trying to process. Apparently the machines only like him. Even though the slots clearly had a personal vendetta against me, we still had a great time and will probably be back (because hope springs eternal when it comes to casinos). My mom is here and suggested a visit to the casino, so we headed over. It's very nearby but I've never been here before. From the start I was not super impressed. I'd planned to use the valet, but couldn't find it. There are signs pointing to valet, but there was no the tell-tale podium outside either of the entrances that we passed by. When we left, we took the long way around and I'm not sure if the valet is in the back of the casino (who would think to look there, especially given the arrow pointing left instead of up?) and then further down toward the backside of the parking garage there was a sign that said valet was down there. The whole point of valet is to get out curbside... I'm really not sure what was going on here. I was going to park in the disabled section so mom could use her permit, but she realized she left it at the house. There was a spot close enough so we chose that instead. What was weird is that there was a sidewalk in front of the disabled spots, but there was no curb cut at the end of that sidewalk (that was the most direct route to the entrance) and to get to the curb cut we had to go into the rideshare pick-up area, which isn't necessarily the safest route nor is it always going to be accessible if there are cars waiting there. In short, doesn't seem super friendly to disabled folk. (Oh, and they only have one door at the main entrance that has an auto door opener, and it's easily missed.) We got our player cards at the Rush Rewards counter. Giving them our email addresses gave us $10 in free play. I don't understand how the cards work nor how to get the free play off them--I had to call one of the attendants to make it work for me. We play the penny slots--I mean, we're not richies who can go for the quarter ones--and there was a good number of them here. But there seemed an unusual number that weren't quite working. I think we saw four that were just totally shut down with some sort of paperwork taped to them, and then there were a couple we tried to use that didn't accept mom's voucher slip. And we encountered a few fellow patrons that were pretty rude. Most astonishing is the woman who reached over my mom's shoulder to put money in a machine as I was situating her wheelchair in front of the machine. Unbelievable. There are several restaurants at the casino; Chinese, a taco place, burgers, and a steakhouse or two. Ample parking--in addition to the surface lots, there's a parking garage next to the main building. There are also a couple of hotels next odor to the casino, and I don't think that Rivers itself has a hotel on site. read more

Very disappointed with the service from Beau/Bo (the bartender with long hair) at Rivers Casino. His attitude was incredibly rude and came across like he had no interest in treating customers with respect. I work in the service industry myself, so I know the difference between being busy and simply having poor customer service. My friends and I spend a lot of money here and always tip well, which is why this interaction was especially frustrating. Customer service and professionalism matter, and his comments and attitude left a really bad impression. Nothing outbofnthe ordinary. To me, it's a casino. I didn't see anything that differentiates it from others. We parked in the main lot and walked over. Once you walk thru the door, there's 1 or 2 security guards. You walk thru the detectors and you're right in the casino. Overall, it's clean and organized as expected. I didn't have any issues. Really good casino overall, but Sundays are rough. Services are thin early -- no drinks aside from water until 11AM at most venues, and the center bar doesn't open until 9. Show up before that and it feels like you're just pacing the floor with nothing to sip on. I came in today partly to clear my head after dealing with stress at home (long story short: my mate bought a huge 40-gallon trash can, tossed one fouled dish in it, and stank up the whole house. This is why I use tiny one-day cans. Frequent trash removal beats one giant bag of stink). Rivers did its job as a safe haven -- better to walk into a casino to reset than sit at home breathing garbage. The floor on a Sunday doesn't keep you playing long. I left only $10 down plus an Uber ride, instead of sinking my whole monthly gambling quota. I'll save the big play for a Friday night when the atmosphere actually pays back more. On Sunday, the sportsbook is the only real draw -- and even that turned into frustration. I hit a win on the early soccer match, only to have Bournemouth-Newcastle kill the mood with a 0-0 draw. That kind of match sends half the sportsbook heading for the exits. Entertainment value was still there though. The F1 race on the big screen? Amazing. Honestly felt like a free IMAX ticket, and that alone made the trip worth it even if I ended the day $30 down. Couple more gripes: * Minimum wagers on sports are now $5. That stings compared to dropping a casual $1 on a horse. Horses let you play longer with less pain. * Can't expect me to keep wagering on 0% alcohol. I was ready for a gin and tonic lime and got nada. Even a basic drink keeps players in their seats. * Coffee shop closed early morning? Come on. Have been there 3-5 times in past 7-8 yrs. Can't really explain it. I've never even been ahead of the Casino at any of the BJ tables where I was near my "Walk away and declare victory for the day" goal. My goal is small. (35% more than I sat down with). The Vegas Strip, Downtown Vegas, Elgin, Aurora, Park City, Nassau... I've played hundreds of casinos using my regimented wagering patterns that have proven effective. In my 35 yrs of playing BJ...this is the 1 and only casino I was never ahead of the house more than 8 - 12%. Think about it... Setting at a $15 - $25 min bet table with $1K only needs a $1350 stack out front during a typical 2-4 hr session. I've been able to win my way out of some deep deficits at Rivers, but oddly, I never got 35% ahead of this venue...not even once. I find this pattern to be a bit suspect. Dealers & Pit Boss crews have always been polite, professional and friendly... I gotta give'm that. The drink service needs to elevate their apparel standards commensurate to the dealers and gaming supervisors. Bluejeans & a collarless top is an acceptable standard for Hockey arena food service staff whose duties may include shooting T-shirts from an air cannon but the same dress code is a bit low for a gaming casino that exchanges $$ of that magnitude. What really saddens me is how often I set at a table with a 25-30 yr old dealer and see them repeatedly struggle in a count to 21. That is our Illinois Public School System for ya. A three is the highest rating you could give a casino, imo - and they don't even have a free beverage station so I'm being very generous! It's a fun filler for date night. We walk in with a certain amount we're willing to lose so our whole night isn't ruined but surprisingly always leave even or with some extra cash. The slot machines have always been generous to me. I like to let the slot machine call my name, haha and it's worked every time so far. Don't hate me, hate the special power LOL Anyway, my husband loves to sit at a table for a few hands. His preference is Spanish 21 or Blackjack. Friday and Saturday nights after 8pm are kinda tough to get a table. At least at the $10 or $25 minimum. If you scope it out and have patience (or win some slot money), you're sure to get a table within 15 minutes. We've come on non holiday and holiday weekends and it's always busy. Their bathrooms are clean and stocked. Their security guards are strict. I'm in my mid 30's and always get pulled for ID which is a buzzkill. I cant handle liquor-being a lightweight-so the fact that I had 3 drinks and absolutely little effect, tells us how watered down it all is. I go here often, but the place is becoming less and less customer friendly. Their rewards stink and the escalator is broke every time I go there. The casino is the bringing in the most profits out of all Illinois casinos, but the upkeep is way below par. I am looking forward to the new casino in North Aurora opening. Came here to play a little baccarat and watch Cubs playoff. No screens had on the game. Took me ten minutes to get the attention of a pit boss who kept ignoring me. When I asked her to put the game on one of the screens, she said she didn't have control and to ask the other pit boss across the way. This lady also clearly ignored me. When I asked her to put on the game she said she didn't know how. Maybe offer to find somebody who knows how. It is not rocket science. Horrible customer service from pit "bosses." This review is for Rivers as a casino. Of course, but why did I write that? Well, one could review it for its showroom or for the various eateries here as well. Anyway, I haven't experienced their showroom, but I have experienced their poker room. The whole casino is non-smoking so that's nice for most of us. I have no complaints about the poker room operation, but I also only come here at non prime time to avoid much of a wait for a table opening. Even during the early weekday afternoons, there's sometimes a 15 minute wait for a table opening. I've heard the wait in the evenings and on the weekends can be 1-2 hours, and that's not for me. They now also have a remote game signup using a Bravo Live app and you can sign up 90 minutes in advance of checking in at the receptionist desk, and that's quite handy. The attached photo shows the poker games available at Rivers, but I personally only play 1-3 NLH poker ($1 small blind, $3 big blind, no limit Texas Hold'em). All of the dealers I've encountered are good, competent, and courteous pros. The room is well lit and comfortable (if not sometimes cool, so bring a light jacket or fleece if you're a borderline coldie like me) and it's a popular poker room with often 10 tables going. I believe there are 22 tables in total, but I'm not sure if they're staffed anymore to run them all at once. Cashing in or out is usually pretty quick. On the weekdays, they have hourly high hand promos worth about $500 (ie, the highest hand amongst all the tables in any one hour span is awarded $500). The casino is physically pretty close to me and that makes visiting quite easy, which is good for me, but if you're an addict it may not be so good. The garage parking capacity is always plentiful. Reviews of casinos must be taken with a grain of salt since poor reviews typically based on "not winning" or one poor experience with an employee (typically a security staff). We found the casino to be bustling with about 5% of slots "out of order." The cashier/promo/rewards staff were congenial and most of the floor was clean. Was nice when they first opened and now it's unkept and dirty and the employees look like they hate their job. The slots are also very tight and the table games have high minimums. The one escalator in the whole place has been broken for months and the power doors to the parking lot also don;t work and the carpets look gross. I wanted to surrender a $600 dollar hand of black jack when I was dealt 16, I did the surrender hand motion and even verbally said it. The dealer, who barely speaks English dealt me a card and then told me there's no surrendering. The dealer then busted after and I was not paid out. You tell the sidewalks and entrance brick pavers haven't been power washed in a long time thousands of steps on pieces of gum embedded all over the walking areas. The other staff members were very cordial, friendly, and professional, which made the initial experience pleasant. Unfortunately, when my girlfriend realized she didn't have her ID with her (an honest oversight), the manager who approached us handled the situation extremely poorly. After the staff informed us she couldnt enter, we were asking if they could accept a copy on her phone. He interupted us and started speaking rudely right away, raising his voice, and acting loud and obnoxious in front of other guests. It was unnecessary and embarrassing--enforcing ID rules is understandable, but there's no need to be aggressive or disrespectful about it. This one interaction completely ruined our evening and left a bad impression. The rest of the team was great, but management like this detracts from what could otherwise be a good spot. I hope the casino addresses staff training on customer service, or better yet, puts him in a position with less aurhority because he has no idea how to use it. read more

I have been here now twice. I like that they keep thing fresh and clean. The food is good. recently, I had a burger there and it was very yummy. I usually get drinks here and they are made well. My friend and I came here for the first time on a Thursday around lunchtime. We were impressed by the cleanliness of the place and with how many slot machines they had on two floors. We were there to celebrate her birthday and wanted to have a good time. Sadly, no one seemed to be having fun at Rivers Casino. No one was enjoying themselves... not the customers, not the staff. Rivers Casino is located in Des Plaines, IL, an intriguing suburb of Chicago where the movie "The Breakfast Club" was filmed and where a couple of weeks ago (late July 2022) a person walk in a gas mart not more than a couple of miles from here and bought a mega millions lottery ticket worth over $1.3 BILLION! Rivers is my favorite casino in Illinois with the Hollywood Casino in Aurora being a distant 2nd place. I cannot comment on the gambling for myself, but my buddy won $250 on the $25 Blackjack Tables so this place may actually be legit. Also, on that same table, a lady sitting next to him hit over $60K after hitting a lucky progressive bet. I think she was dealt 2 sevens and the dealer showed a 7 too or maybe they were the same suit or something like that. I didn't gamble because the Horsehoe in Metropolis, IL vacuumed my bankroll so I have a strict rule of quitting when my luck had run dry for my vacation. I did however enjoy the bar over a couple of hours talking to Nick, a local and found myself just enjoying the vibes here. Bartender was cool and I threw away $20 or so on beers and my buddy paid for a round of premium tequila shots. Was a fun waste of time and would come again, no doubt about that. There is plenty of parking and is easily accessible from Chicago. The interior is nicely dim and the crowd was comfortably busy with being too packed. I don't gamble just came in for the experience due to FREE PARKING! Ofc drinks are expensive. $30 for two strawberry margs, the bartender knew they were good so he came over to ask if we need more strawberry purée! Thank god he asked because I probably would've had to ask. That was sweet of him. I find it crazy they don't have any type of menu at the bar so it's priced however??? It's 2023 at least get a somewhat of a cocktail menu. Overall cool place, I'll try the restaurant next time I'm in. All the staff was in a great mood so 10/10 for me! read more

While I appreciate it's clean and smoke free, it has many drawbacks. Least favorite casino in the area. Their cashier cage always has a ridiculously long line. We came once where the barely trained table game poker dealer was not paying attention and caused a 10 minute wait for gameplay while a tape had to be reviewed for a discrepancy as to when a bet was put down. Was told the poker tables had an hour and a half wait at 2pm on a non- workday. It's been 2 hrs with no notice. I hate to say it's really not a lot of fun here. read more
