My daughter is 2 years and a few months old and Dr Ellen Im came to her preschool for a career day type presentation. We were looking for a pediatric dentist anyway per our pediatrician and so I also did some research and looked for recommended pediatric dentists through the local mom group. Dr Ellen Im was highly recommended and raved about. We walked in and there's a cute little play area and plenty to keep the kid busy while waiting. Candy is the person that helped us and cleaned our daughters teeth. She was very friendly and made sure to thoroughly explain the process to us as this was also our first visit. She wanted to let us know what we could possibly expect and what we should also do for her at this age. She cleaned her teeth, wiped, added fluoride and our daughter wasn't scared at all. They also have an iPad they could watch something should they need or want a distraction. Dr Ellen took over afterwards to examine and was very gentle. She was very reassuring and the way she talked to our daughter was very appreciated as I'm sure it helps. For as scary as loud equipment could be for a toddler at a dentist's office, I was surprised to see my daughter hadn't cried at all nor was she scared. They did an excellent job and we're so happy with the selection we made in choosing our pediatric dentist. Oh- they gave her a balloon after and a token to get a little toy for her bravery. Bonus. Dr Im is absolutely the best pediatric dentist that I have taken my six year old daughter to. She tells the kids exactly what she is doing and how long it will take. Dr Im was recommended by a friend and we were happy with the service for the past two years until today. My son came in for 2 crowns. I only realized that she put in silver crowns after the work was done. I was not given options nor told that the quote was for silver crown, not porcelain. This negative review is for that lack of communication and lack of educating their patients to make an informed choice. I was surprised by the $1000 quote for porcelain crowns. More importantly, my son was distraught having to go through the procedure a second time. All we got from the office was a 'sorry we usually give patients options but didn't inform you'. On another note, I did get a quote from a different dentist before deciding to go with Dr Im. The other dentist recommends filling only. Looking back now, I should've gone with the other dentist and do fillings instead of crowns. I trusted Dr. Im and it was a mistake. read more

Dr. Im was so great with my rambunctious boys. She shared her findings and what I needed to know about the development of my boys' teeth. She also shared information on prevention of cavities and how to care for my boys' teeth. She took her time with us and answered my questions. I am sure our first visit with her will be a memorable one for my boys' as they each got a coin to get toys from the vending machine at the office. Dr. Ellen Im has been a game changer for my son in such a positive way. Before Dr. Ellen, I was taking my child to a big San Diego chain pediatric dentist and we had an awful experience. They rushed, were not patient with my son, and did not give me options for his treatment. I felt stuck and unhappy with my son's experience. He definitely became traumatized after going there. After finding Dr. Ellen, I was so worried that my son would be difficult for her to treat. I explained to her the history and trauma he had from the last pediatric dental office. I expressed that he would most likely not sit still or keep the laughing gas on but she was on board to try. My son has had a tough road with his teeth and needed alot of work done. To my surprise, she was able to get some immediate work done on him by working so patiently with him. She talked him through the entire time and asked if he needed breaks. He became really anxious after some drilling from the noise and I thought she wouldn't be able to go further. But she paused, eased his anxiety, so much so that when she asked him if she could continue on the tooth when he was good and ready, my son actually said yes! Seems silly but that is not like him at all. By this point I thought he would be kicking and screaming. Dr. Ellen has such a nurturing and gentle way to how she works that I just know that's the reason my son allowed her to do the work needed. Even the assistants were so patient and kind with him. I'm so appreciative of this office and how they handled my son's treatment and personality. She gave me options, eased some concerns I had, and most importantly, made my son comfortable enough to willingly allow her to do the work. Dr. Im and staff are great with my 2 kids, Noah and Emma. They aren't scare of the dentist. They look forward to their coin at the end of their visit to get their little prize at the end. Each kid get a coin or a balloon at the end of their visit. The kids get the joy of putting the coin in the vending machine to get a toy. The staff applies flouride to the kids with a new toothbrush which you take home with a travel size toothpaste. They offer xrays and explain to you if it is covered or not on your insurance plan. They ask about oral care and what the kids should eat and drink. The kids get to pick what they want to watch on their iPad as they get their teeth clean. I was hesitant to change dentists at first because Dixon has always been top notch, although a little expensive. I decided to switch over to someone closer and found Dr. Im on Yelp. My daughter was a former patient of the dentist who previously owned Dr. Im's office, Dr. Baker. He was a complete nightmare! We started going to Dr. Im about 6 years ago and relocated to Otay Ranch, so we thought we'd find a local pediatric dentist. Let me tell you that our experience with our other doctor was horrible. They wanted to do unnecessary work (including putting my 4 year old under general anesthesia) and were completely rude. I contacted Dr. Im's office and they were able to squeeze my two kids in and complete the work at a third of the price. I can't stress how genuinely caring the doctor and her staff are. They not only treat the parents with the upmost respect but the children as well and to me that's the kind of relationship you want. She won't do procedures that with jeopardize the children's health nor try to nickel and dime you. Needless to say, we will be traveling back to Poway for every dental appointment! I've gotta thank mommy sites and yelp for helping me find this amazing office nearby!! There are iPads at every treatment station to distract and keep the kids happy and I love the light up ceiling tiles (fish, jets, etc). Dr. Im and her crew are beyond amazing...I love how they effectively communicate with my kids at their level. My 2 year old is "I" about everything so she won't let me help with anything but for them she was a perfect angel and they were able to do a full cleaning and assessment!! As for my 4 year old...he had lots of cavities between his teeth ( I didn't even know that was a thing!) I was super distressed and not looking forward to it but my son handled it like a champ. They found him his favorite show, gave him some laughing gas, numbing injections, and got to work without any pain. I hope to never go threw that again because who wants a kid to get cavities but I have nothing but high praises for the great job they did. We have a pediatric dentist for our 2 year old twins located by my dad's house (40 minutes away)that my kids and I love but we wanted to find something closer to our home this time. We live in Rancho Bernardo, but found this one with the best reviews so decided to try this place out. We came in and was greeted by a welcoming staff and a playful lobby. I called ahead for a teeth cleaning quote because we were paying out of pocket for the kids but it appears that I was given a lower quote over the phone then what I was actually charged. They didn't get to clean my daughter's teeth here , not even one tooth because she was so frightened but my son loved getting his teeth clean here. Dr. Ellen was really friendly but I think my daughter's experience with the other hygienist was a different one then what my son had experienced because my husband said the hygienist sang to him whereas my daughter was not sang to. The hygienist just dove straight into her mouth, no wonder my daughter was scared. Though she didn't have any problems with getting her teeth cleaned before coming here. I also didn't realize they only gave us 1 goodie bag with 2 toothbrush but 1 toothpaste in it. I paid for 2 kids even though they were only able to clean my son's teeth & not my daughter's so they could of at least gave the kids their own goodie bag, especially considering how they're at that age where they fight over not having the same things. read more

We have been seeing Dr Im and her amazing staff since October. Today we had to visit to have teeth extracted for both of my kiddos to make room for adult teeth. Was concerned my daughter damaged a tooth over the weekend. I called three pediatric dentists. Dr. Ellen responded within minutes of receiving my voicemail, asked me to send a picture, eased my worry and set up an appointment first thing Monday morning. She consulted, and began work immediately after X-rays.
