My former partner and I worked with her together as a group and then in individual sessions, and in both scenarios she was very fair, kind, did not invalidate either of us, but rather facilitated a conversation to see if what we desired in relationship could work with each other. Dr. Krems expertly and gently guided me through a very difficult individual session, where she pointed out that my partner strongly exhibited signs of having narcissistic personality disorder. After our conversation, the past seven years with my former partner finally made sense. I realized I was in a very bad situation and with her support, I was able to make what felt like an impossible decision to walk away from a man who was emotionally abusing me. One year later, my life is completely different now and I am so incredibly grateful. From time to time I will still work with her when life throws curveballs, but I'm now living a life I never could have, had I stayed in that partnership. If you're looking for an expert couples or individual therapist, look no further. Dr. Krems will be able to support you on your journey.

Either you'll love the treatment, or you'll hate it. When reading reviews, know that people going in for Mental Health care aren't always the most mentally stable, myself included, and that people don't usually write reviews unless they had a bad experience. I'm saying this because Didi Hirsch is the first time I really found the hands on care I've been looking for after years of unhelpful experiences elsewhere, and I am finally seeing progress in dealing with bipolar disorder, ADHD, violent rage, and marijuana addiction. I had a therapist, a psychiatrist, and was part of a weekly DBT group. They also assigned me a case worker and medical supervisor. I had a whole team of people overlooking my care. I doubt I could get this service anywhere else. For the last 4 years I've been medically compliant with my treatment at Didi Hirsch, and the treatment I received has been life-changing, especially the skills I got from DBT. A big part of the progress I made was due to the work I did on my own end. Studying my DBT skills outside of meetings, meditating, eating better, exercising, cutting back on substances, taking my medication, sleeping better, etc. The staff is here to help us but they cant press a button to fix everything for us. Have I had bad experiences here? Sure. Have certain staff members pissed me off? Certainly. Have other clients upset me before? Yes. But this is all stuff we have to deal with in life no matter where we go. No experience will be perfect. Staying committed to the goal of improving my mental health in spite of these imperfections kept me out of the path of destruction and violence I was on before. While things aren't perfect, I am more empowered than I was before to manage my own thoughts, behaviors, and emotions. Also, know that if youre working with someone and theres not a good fit, change the person you're working with. Don't like the group? Find a different group. Seeking more resources? Speak up. Be humble yet open with your expectations and you'll continue to make progress in your mental health. "Man cannot remake himself without suffering for he is both the marble and the sculptor". There may be times of discomfort and frustration but stick to it and you'll see progress.

In terms of care, I really enjoyed being a patient here. This was my first experience as a patient in PHP/IOP. I was a patient for three months, dealing with mental disorder that impaired my functioning in work, school, social life, and self-care. You are assigned an individual therapist to meet with weekly and/or a case manager. You can request to switch individual therapists if you don't feel a good enough rapport between yourself and your assigned therapist. The group therapy schedule is pretty static week to week, but there is almost always a choice between two groups, so you have some ability to "customize" your schedule. I didn't enjoy all facilitators, but I enjoyed most and learned a lot about how to manage and process my emotions/thoughts/behaviors/traumas. The psychiatric team put me on the first medication combination in my life that really worked for my specific set of symptoms. They are courteous and attentive. They remember even non-clinical details about me when we meet weekly. Mission Harbor is also much more affordable (in my opinion) than other centers offering similar care. I paid my insurance's deductible--with which Mission Harbor provided flexibility due to my personal financial hardship--and the team was diligent with handling my disability insurance claim in a timely manner. I would recommend Mission Harbor to anyone looking to seriously challenge their mental disorders and carve a path to a better way of living and thinking! I would even readmit if I felt I needed the care and support again.
