Like a maze inside, but very cool. Great service by the young lady who got us checked in! Felt like distant family welcoming us to their home. Charming. Live music, good food, great back patio/beach, and wonderful rooms with a good view and walkout to a patio overlooking the river. If there weren't so many telephone/power poles around the front of the place, photography opportunities would be great. At least the backyard is picturesque. The only slightly negative thing worth noting is that outside it can be a bit loud considering both the river with its small waterfall and the live music. Def would go back!

The Bike Station rents bikes and has a shuttle service that takes you to the top of the Virginia…read moreCreeper Trail. Once they drop you off, you're on your own to make it back to the bike shop. Definitely recommend making a reservation for a bike ahead of time to guarantee a spot at your desired time. And be sure to arrive 30 minutes before so you can get set up with a bike. I read all the reviews and watched lots of TikToks about the 17 mile bike ride itself--it's described as easy and mostly downhill. Based on all of that, I rented a regular bike but regretted that decision later due to the amount of uphill stretches there actually were. Maybe my bike seat was not adjusted to the correct height for me, but I thought the ride was very challenging and my quads were on fire. I was actually worried I might not be able to finish and would die alone somewhere along the trail--and I could barely walk when I got done with the ride. I would recommend older or out of shape cyclists consider renting an e-bike instead of a regular bike. I saw lots of seniors riding back and forth on the trail with big smiles and I realized it was because they were on e-bikes. There is a small store that sells ice cream, water, and has a bathroom (basically porta potties) about an hour into the ride and after that, there is nothing. There is a big grass parking lot behind the building with plenty of room for cars.

We went to Marion, Virginia to see our friend Tim White's show, Song of the Mountains at the Lincoln Theatre. Collins House is about a block and a half away. The home is charming inside and out; we enjoyed the flowers and beautiful garden-like grounds, with porch sitting and rocking. Inside, I felt completely at home, surrounded by inviting, comfortable, but very tasteful furniture and decor. The breakfast meals were superb, with every attentiveness directed at tasty delicacies in exceptional presentations. Rod and Carol need no signs about hospitality for it abounds in every aspect of the stay at the Collins House, a charming and extremely valuable rest haven while visiting the area. There are no other accommodations in the area for comparison, so staying elsewhere will be your loss, but staying there, will be your gain.

This was such a wonderful place to stay! We stayed in a little cabin called The Fox Den. It is…read morelocated in a quaint part of the blue ridge mountains. We found it through air bnb but wanted to put in a yelp review because we liked it so much. We like to find new towns/areas to experience on the way to the beach and really enjoyed this spot. I guess (according to the welcome binder in the cabin) the couple who own the place, the husband had a buddy from childhood who was a state trooper buddy and died while on the job. The whole cabin was decorated in his honor with his pictures, favorite things such as sports teams, etc. They built a second cabin in honor of another fallen trooper. Thought it was a really cool way to honor those who have served our country and I loved "getting to know" this young trooper through the things in the cabin and learning his story. The cabin was really nice and modern (for a cabin) on the inside and very clean. There's a fire pit and seating out front, also a picnic bench. Great view from the porch. Very peaceful surroundings. We went to the Painted Peak Brewery and the locals were very friendly. We obviously stuck out because everyone seemed to know everyone, but they were very welcoming. The brewery had karaoke and there were a lot of really good singers! Small mountain town but quaint with a handful of restaurants with decent hours (didn't close too early). Everyone we met in the town of Tazewell was so friendly, including the lady watering the courthouse porch flowers. There's a state park nearby, Hungry Mother. Highly recommend this place! We will be back!
