The Bike Station rents bikes and has a shuttle service that takes you to the top of the Virginia Creeper Trail. Once they drop you off, you're on your own to make it back to the bike shop. Definitely recommend making a reservation for a bike ahead of time to guarantee a spot at your desired time. And be sure to arrive 30 minutes before so you can get set up with a bike. I read all the reviews and watched lots of TikToks about the 17 mile bike ride itself--it's described as easy and mostly downhill. Based on all of that, I rented a regular bike but regretted that decision later due to the amount of uphill stretches there actually were. Maybe my bike seat was not adjusted to the correct height for me, but I thought the ride was very challenging and my quads were on fire. I was actually worried I might not be able to finish and would die alone somewhere along the trail--and I could barely walk when I got done with the ride. I would recommend older or out of shape cyclists consider renting an e-bike instead of a regular bike. I saw lots of seniors riding back and forth on the trail with big smiles and I realized it was because they were on e-bikes. There is a small store that sells ice cream, water, and has a bathroom (basically porta potties) about an hour into the ride and after that, there is nothing. There is a big grass parking lot behind the building with plenty of room for cars. read more

At the last minute, I asked them if I could switch to Tuesday and they let me get on the last shuttle. No questions asked just super accommodating. This would be my 3rd time renting from this station. But my first time with kids! We rented 4 bikes total. 2 kids bikes and 2 adults. The gentlemen servicing us fitted each of us on our bike to tailor the heights and seat comfortability. The driver who took us up the mountain gave us so many fun facts and history of the mountain and trail. But I have to say the best service was the proactive phone call the morning we were originally supposed to ride. There was a bad storm the night before and still was raining early that morning. The bike station called to check and see if we were still coming or if we wanted to reschedule for the next day. The gentlemen on the phone was so nice to even recommend wait a day because of the wet and muddy conditions. These folks are the bee's knees! My wife, very young daughter, sister, brother-in-law, and nephew got to The Bike Station 20 minutes before their shuttle left for White Top at the top of the trail. In that time, they smoothly and efficiently outfitted us with bikes, helmets, and a super cool mesh covered bike trailer for my daughter to ride in. Of greatest note, however, is how they went above and beyond for our two dogs that we worried about leaving in the car. They personally directed me to park in the shadiest spot under a tree to one side of the building (it was an amusing parking spot) and assured us that they would be able to watch the car, allowing us to keep the windows down for the dogs. We left our keys with them and, when we returned about 3 to 4 hours later, the guys (sorry! I didn't ask your names!) had been walking the dogs and keeping them in the shop with them. It was a very nice sight to see our pups greet us at the door of the shop. I wanted to tip them both but they wouldn't have it. The Bike Station is the best in Damascas (and probably anywhere else that rents bikes) and really cares for it's customers. We visited Damascus for my husbands 50th Birthday weekend so our family can experience the VA Creeper Trail. We decided to go with The Bike Station for the shuttle and the bike rental because Steve was very nice and helpful on the phone. I called him weekly to give him the status of how many people were coming and to make sure everything was ok. On the day we arrived, Steve and his team quickly gave the people who were renting their bikes and had awesome recommendations for the kids. Originally, the parents wanted the bike trailer for their kids because they didn't know how to ride a bike, but Steve recommended for the smaller child to do the 'tag-along' which allowed him to pedal with the Dad and the older child to use the tandem bike. It was perfect, the kids had the time of their lives. There was a hurricane that was supposed to hit that weekend but Steve told us they would still be open rain or shine. We were blessed to have the first 1/2 of the trail with no rain. The second half we were riding in heavy rain. Anyway, my family said it was the best adventure of their life. They would have never biked in the rain but now they were able to experience it. :) Thank you to Steve and his team for providing great bikes, for your awesome recommendations and still being open even though there was a hurricane on the way. This being our first time in Damascs and not knowing the layout I went with one of the first bike shops I found on the web. The people taking our reservations were very nice and the folks in the shop also attended well to our needs. Overall it could have been a good experience but my problems started after they dropped us off at the top of White Top Station for the creeper trail. The bike they gave me had an issue with the rear wheel having a wobble and the wheel catching on the brakes. After letting a little air out of the tire I was able to get the bike to ride, but thank god it was a down hill ride because it was tough to peddle. Once I got back to the shop, the folks there asked how our ride went. I told them the situation.... at which point they took the bike into the shop and never said anything such as "we are sorry this happened" or "how about a discount on your next ride". If I were to return to that bike shop it would only be because of the clean bathrooms. read more
