This is definitely a throwback Main Street hardware store! Not very many of these places survive…read morewhen a large chain like ACE comes to town. Actually there is one in this small, beautiful town! It's a testament to the local home folks for supporting their hometown businesses! I went in there looking for some cloth hand towels. The very kind and helpful lady in charge told me they didn't have any. That was a bit of a surprise to me because they seemed to have an abundance of everything! Not only hardware but also a huge selection of yard art and other display pieces. Like I said; this place is most definitely a throwback in time and its unusual! Even though they didn't have what I needed ; I loved the experience! Any person my age who remembers the way things were in the past should visit not only this place but the entire Main Street of Rutherfordton, N.C. ! It's a thriving small town with much to offer.

The store owner ( an older guy like myself) decided to escort me around his near perfect hardware business. He explained each item that I was interested in with knowledge and precision. Absolutely no pressure to buy anything at all. As he described each item it was with a passion like he was talking about an old friend! He had a ton of nice stuff and it was priced fairly and competitive with big box places! I don't recall ever being treated more nicely anywhere! I highly recommend!

This store is broken up into two big rooms. The one towards the left is more upscale gift like. You will find lotions, cards, kitchen gadgets and candles/soaps. While it is a bit pricey, I love the local and well curated feel. They have nice candies and snacks from Asheville and some great natural products. Some old fashioned soda in the back for hot summer days. The right side is more your everyday stuff and traditional general store items. You will find actual hardware, command strips, soil, birdseed and leaning supplies. The front has cute games and books. Again, check the prices as some are quite fair (I got birdseed and a birdfeeder for the cat that costs similar to Amazon prices) but some can be high. Other random info- They also do handiwork and make key copies. That's nifty. You can become a member and get some discounts if you wish (it's free). Slightly less convenient location, but truth be known, I'd drive 50 miles more if needed. First off, these employees are super nice! And it's not just "hi", "have a nice day". They're just exceptionally nice. Also, they're crazy helpful. I walk in the door and show the gentleman what I need. He says "oh, that's a union brass diverter valve, come down here, I'll show you where it is" what I didn't tell him it's I spent two weeks figuring out who the original manufacturer was! Should've just come here to begin with. I typically only shop at Lowe's. Lowe's didn't have what I needed. From now on, I'm coming here for any plumbing need I have regardless if Lowe's has it or not!!! . Thanks guys!

If you're looking for shop with folks (Jimmy) that know what they're doing, and are interested in helping you get a bow that'll fit you best, you must visit this place. They have a 20 yard range in the shop for you to try out your bow before you take it home. I wish I lived closer, so I could go there more and not just for bow hunting. Tremendous clothing line set up and other general merchandise. A really cool place. I drove 4.5 hours to get there.... It was worth it!

When you pull up in the lot, you would never expect to find such an eclectic mix of merchandise on the inside. The store has an incredibly large showroom of furniture - everything from recliners, to sofas to bedroom sets. The other big selling items are work wear, hunting gear, archery supplies, hardware and tons of PVC pipes. The archery shop manager is actually a trained archery coach who can give you lessons. We shopped around for bedroom furniture and found a great set by a famous brand which we ordered; if it's not in the store there are tons of catalogues to order from. Professional and courteous delivery and set up were included in the price. Oh and if someone tries to put an apple on your head while you're there, don't let them!!

This hardware store has for the above mentioned years met the needs of the small town of Chesnee S.C.--- A three traffic light town at that! A very large ACE Hardware just moved into a business area that could only support one hardware store! Guess what happened? The little fish just got eaten by the big fish! That's the new story of small town America! When huge retail chain stores move onto the scene; family owned joints can't compete! Look at my hometown; Gaffney S.C. Walmart came to us and main street became home to only things that Walmart can't supply! Loan companies and the like now adorn downtown Gaffney! Congratulations to Chesnee Hardware for surviving as long as you did and the great service that you provided for your community!
