The "We're Nuts" billboards on I75 just kept popping up and John said- lets go check it out, maybe they will have blackberry cider- one of my utter weaknesses. That and I didn't find honey to buy while in Chattanooga. So- we detoured off to farm country. Right across from a massive blooming cotton field was Ellis Brothers. 1. it's bigger than I imagined it to be, 2. it's in the middle of no where- which I did expect 3. they had cider!!! 4. they had honey!!!! 5. I've never seen so many nuts! John was in nut heaven- trying samples before settling on what he wanted. Meanwhile- I grabbed a shopping cart and loaded it with 8 bottles of blackberry cider and one muscadine cider. Then I found the honey shelf! 2lbs for $12.50- yes please!!! $75 later and a box full of cider... I swear- if they had had the gallon jugs, I would have bought gallons! This place is pecan heaven. If you love pecans, stop at this place. They have samples out of almost everything - which I loved. Try it before you buy it. Every year I stop in Georgia and buy fresh pecans and other local products for my baking. Most of the places just of 75 that sell pecans are overpriced tourist traps. This year we stopped at Ellis Brothers which is a mile off the highway in Vienna, Georgia exit 109. The store is a nice large pole barn and sits aside a grove of pecan trees - good sign. Inside there are tables filled with different bags of nuts. Their tag line is We're Nuts. They carry different varieties of pecans and peanuts. And candied versions as well. Pecans ran about $10 a pound which is lower than some of the other stands. Peanuts are only $2.55 lb so I picked some of those up as well They carry a huge selection of southern produced favorites such as Vadalia onion relish, peach preserves, hot sauces and barbecue fixins. I also snagged a bag of local grits for my shrimp and grits. The Ellis family has been in business since 1944 at this location. Now under the operation of their sons they maintain 3000 acres of production. They are nuts! They have a wholesale business as well and will ship orders all over the US. Irene produces the pecan and apple butter and pickled products. They also sell pecan oil and specialty vinegars. The bathrooms are lovely and clean. The coffee was not very good, but only 50 cents a cup. They serve ice cream too. They carry a complete line of gift boxes that you can order at www.werenuts.com. I'll definitely be back. I loved this place. As a big fan of free samples, I was in heaven here. You help yourself to the samples, which I appreciate, and they offer samples of dozens of their products. The pecans here are excellent and they use a decent chocolate on the chocolate covered ones. They also had both milk and dark chocolate covered peanuts and almonds. If you have saved room after all the sample snacking, they have ice cream cones for sale. The staff was helpful and friendly, and the bathrooms are very clean. I enjoyed the educational displays, where I learned about the different pecans grown in Georgia and the harvesting process. I'll most definitely be back! read more

Prices are about the same as your local Kroger but the freshness was amazing and readily appearent. Lots of hard to find nut varietients as well; like 1 pound Brazil nuts. We didn't have any problems finding the place, thanks to the tempting signs that steered us in the direction of the nuthouse! Really good variety, peaches are getting a little more ripe on the dashboard as we drive but look delicious. Prices were about what I'd expect to pay. We got some chocolate covered pretzels (not my favorite but then again I'm not huge on sweets), praline pecans (the BEST!), honey cinnamon pecans, a small fruitcake, a couple of drinks, a small bag of cookies, a bag of probably 15 or so peaches, some candied peanuts, a double scoop and a single scoop of ice cream all for about 55$. That's just road trip snacking prices imo. I'd have definitely grabbed more (namely jams and honey!) if our low carb living didn't start back up once we're home 8) Everyone we encountered was friendly enough, the restrooms were clean, as was the facility, with cute little decorations throughout. Making the monotonous drive through Georgia I was in need of a little excitement. That's when I decided I could not leave the state without a real Georgia peach and some pecans. After passing billboard after billboard of places touting peaches and the like, it was the signs of the "We're Nutz" people that warranted a pit-stop. We walked inside and I was immediately overwhelmed by the tables stocked with every type of pecan imaginable. Upon closer inspection I realized that they you could try samples of all of their products. Maybe not the most sanitary thing but hey, I didn't get sick afterwards so I deem it a-ok! We tried everything from the jalapeno pecans and chocolate covered almonds to pecan brittle and salsa. They even had pickled beets, jams, and homemade ice cream that was so hard to pass up. Unfortunately, we filled up way too much on samples to get a scoop so had to grab some peaches and a mini pecan pie to enjoy later on in the drive. If you like pecans there is no doubt you'll be able to find something here to suit your fancy. I didn't want to fall victim to their gimmicky billboards but after visiting for a bit, I'm sure happy I did! read more

I was very impressed with this pecan-themed gift shop! The store was much bigger and carried waaaay more items than I expected. Not only do they have different kinds of pecans (I didn't even know there were different kinds!), but they have so many different flavors and styles of nuts - spicy, sweet, garlic, cheesy, and on and on and on. You can try virtually every single one of them before you guy as well. They also carry many more things than just pecans and flavored nuts...there are endless varieties of jams, jellies, sauces - some that I have never even heard of. The location itself is perfect. Clean and organized inside, with very nice bathrooms that look recently renovated and seem to be cared for extremely well. The place is big, too - on a big piece of property. There are rocking chairs outside to eat your ice cream or snack on your pecan pie. And, although I wouldn't consider it that remarkable, there are pecan trees there on-site, but I did not venture over to the part of the property. When I was there, I'd guess there was about a dozen people mingling around and everyone seemed to find something they wanted. This makes for a great pit-stop when passing through Georgia on I-75, and good place to grab a gift for whoever you might be headed to see. read more

This review is based solely on their products which I found to be very good and inexpensive. They have a huge variety of pretty much everything! And they offer samples of everything they sell. The only negative is the blah attitude and service which I'm sure depends on the amount of melanin of each customer. I love this place. Ever since my mom moved to Atlanta over 10 years ago I made it a habit to always stop here on the drive up from Florida. Nuts! Lots of tasty treats including spicy, savory and sweet nuts sold in small and large containers. Great gifts! I've tried lots of the varieties and all were delish! Pecan pie is a great buy. This summer was my third time there. The last 3 times that we have made the drive to Florida we have stopped at this location. Its a great place to pick up some pecans. They also have some great home made ice cream! I cant recall the cost of the ice cream but I do remember being real cheap. They do offer free samples of every single thing they make. We came here after googling where to stop for Pecans when driving from Florida to Georgia - this place was amazing! A short drive off the highway, spacious, samples galore, and clean bathrooms! They have all different types of pecans and graciously have signs up telling you what the difference is between the types - who knew?! Evidently not my family, but we felt like we were able to make better decisions about what types of pecans to buy for our family/friends after learning all about the pecans! Their prices are comparable to the other pecan stores along the way as well (we did a lot of googling before coming). They have every sort of raw pecan, as well as other candied ones and other treats. We tried their homemade icecream, which was actually a bit blah, but their pecans did not disappoint! SIMPLY THE BEST! I love returning home from the southern part of Georgia because I can now look forward to stopping by Ellis Bros Pecans for delicious nuts and incredible ice cream. Their nuts are lightly roasted and contain very little salt. You can also purchase chocolate nuts that contain, white, dark or standard milk chocolates options. This visit we purchased the white chocolate covered pecans, the roasted mixed nuts, the roasted pecans and the chocolate pecan clusters and the barbecue ranch corn nuts. The corn nuts may have a little too much sodium for you but if you mix them with the white chocolate pecans it is the perfect sweet and savory bite. Remember that you are able to freely sample much of what they have to offer. Now, the real reason we stop by Ellis Brothers is because we wanted some of their delicious homemade ice cream which we just discovered last year. If you like good ice cream that is smooth and delicious and not too sweet, this is it! The butter pecan is other worldly because it is just so creamy and perfect. Of course they do not skimp on the the pecans because they have their own trees! Yes!. We are very traditional when it comes to our food so we were incredibly happy to find Ellis. Since we only get to go out for ice cream once a year, (because of the distance), I decided to go big and get a DOUBLE scoop! No big deal for some but I have never had a double scoop of ice cream in my life and I have a sensitivity to dairy. No problem, this ice cream is worth it!! It is so well made that I had no intestinal discomfort at all, just a very happy belly! An unshared happiness is not happiness. Boris Pasternak I was driving through the south looking for pecan shells. From Atlanta, Georgia I drove south down Highway 75 passing lots of farmland, empty fields, and rolling green hillsides. At one point, torrential waves of rain came down so hard I couldn't see through the windshield with the wipers going at their fastest speed. No one slowed down; neither did I: I was driving by feel and intuition. I came to a big billboard sign by the highway just outside Vienna, Georgia that said: Ellis Brothers Pecans - We're Nuts I drove off the highway and down a long meandering blacktopped driveway to a farmhouse where I met one of the Ellis brothers. His name was Keith. I introduced myself and told him I needed clean, pecan shells. Keith asked me, "Are you sure you need the pecan shells and not the pecan meat?" I answered that I just needed the pecan shells, and he said, "Boy, I thought we were nuts." He took me out back and showed me the pecan separator, this huge contraption which de-shells the pecans. Unfortunately, they leave the cracked pecan shells in a large pile outdoors, which forms a kind of mulch. I couldn't use them. I went next door where they have a store that sells pecan and nut products, like raw nuts and pecans, relishes, jams, jellies, that kind of stuff. Keith's sister gave me a slice of their pecan pie, which blew me away. It was the best pie I've ever eaten. The pecans were large and crispy and caramelized atop a filling that was gooey, sweet, and rich with flavor. The crust was flaky and thin. With this particular pie, I felt the filling was more of a custard with hints of vanilla and apples and maple syrup. At the time, the concept of a pecan pie filling being a custard seemed like an important revelation... I bought a pie and took it with me and ate it bit by bit as I drove though Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi looking for them pecan shells. I finally found all the clean pecan shells I needed - in Fresno, California.... Sometimes I long for the taste of a good southern-cooked pecan pie.... read more

I stopped by on a whim, during one road trip, after seeing the several billboards on I-75, and now it's one of my go-to destinations to give myself a reprieve from the all of the driving. First of all, there's tons of free samples to be had. Candied pecans. Savory pecans. Raw pecans. Pickled things. Jams. Jellies, Syrups. All homemade. It's worth stopping by for a sample, and you'll be bound to buy something, as I always am. Almost every item has a sample (peanut brittle, candied pecans, key lime pie pecans, chocolate covered peanuts, etc, etc.) and there are fun sauces, jams, jellies, and butters too! The staff was friendly and helpful when asking about certain products, and they didn't seem to mind that everyone was sampling everything! Peaches - this is what I thought I was going to get in Georgia while taking a road trip. I could have, but apparently pecans are what they make in Georgia. Or peanuts, boiled peanuts. So, we stopped for pecans (skipped peaches and peanuts) based on a friends' recommendation. We're Nutz is a little mile jog off the freeway, but worth it. It's your typical farm market - folding tables old the hundreds of bags of pecans of various varieties. They have other local offerings, honey, jams, odd flavored of syrup...campy farm stuff like that. You won't be disappointed if you're a rural explorer or Amish-tourist. As for the parts I wasn't super glad about - there were some flies landing on me when we were shopping - no music in the little store, which probably just reveals that I'm a city-boy that is used to noise at all times. Those things said, the nuts we purchased were Nutz - very tasty. I purchased plenty of things - honey and marmalade...they definitely were a busy store as well. One neat thing, a "crack your own" section is to the left - I grabbed a bag for a nut-cracker in my family. This is a strong choice for your Georgia produce touring. read more

Today my husband and I stopped to shop at the We're Nuts store in Vienna, Georgia. We chose not to buy any nuts because of their high prices (we can buy pecan halves for $7 per pound versus the $10 per pound price at We're Nuts). We did decide to purchase a four pound bag of mandarins for $4.99. The cashier told us it would be $5.99. We asked why and she told us the $1 additional charge was for taxes. We asked what the tax rate was and she told us 8 percent. 5 x 8 is 40 cents not $1. She told us that it's just easier to charge everyone a dollar than to calculate it since something wasn't working with their calculator. She told us she would void the transaction and charge us $5.40. This business is dishonest and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I'm wondering if the state is aware of this practice.
