And, crowded, too -the entire gallery space was packed! There was food, beer, wine, live jazz music, awards, and lots of beautiful artwork! :) If you have never been, there are basically 2 main gallery spaces, the Bancroft Gallery & the Dillon Gallery. The Bancroft gallery is the larger space where Media Mix is being shown. I like this space very much! It has large walls on one side of it, and shorter walls on the other side with ample lighting. The walls seem to be some kind of upholstered plywood which makes for easy positioning of paintings. (No worrying about hiding nail holes!) There is also a hardwood floor which makes the entire space look modern and clean. The Dillon Gallery is smaller and darker. There was an exhibit of Italian paintings in there, which I enjoyed very much! This was really my first involvement with the South Shore Art Center, but overall, it seems to be a great place to view and learn about art! Everyone I met there is very friendly, and happy to meet local artists. It is also located in a beautiful town! Even though I arrived before 4pm they had locked the doors early and wouldn't let me in. Wasted my day driving here for them to close early and be incredibly rude about coming to unlock the door at 4:02pm. Don't recommend this place at all.

We were trying to visit the…read morePlymouth plantation but unfortunately it was not open so this became an alternative and we enjoyed our visit. Our grandson was given a scavenger hunt worksheet which he used to search for different pieces throughout the Museum. He enjoyed searching for the items and we did as well. They had some good exhibits which helped explain the history. They also had a gift shop although it was not big and did not offer many options.

There was an exhibit of local artist Daphne Confor's wonderful portrait art, blues bands, a generous spread of free pizza and snacks, and a cash bar with cans of beer etc. I had never heard of Milton Art Center before. Apparently they have classes as well. Fun event in a beautiful old public library building.

As an actor in the resident company during the summer, I had the amazing opportunity to live on the Priscilla Beach Theatre campus. I lived in the Farmhouse, which houses around nine people, a costume shop, costume storage, two bathrooms, a kitchen, and a black box theatre. I felt like this was my home away from home during the summer; it kind of felt like my first year of college again when I lived in a dorm. You become really close with the people you live and work with - you form really special bonds. One of the really incredible things about being cast in A Chorus Line and A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum this summer were the directors I had the fortune of working with. Emily Maltby directed A Chorus Line and Ron Fassler directed Forum, and both of these directors helped me bring some of my best work out on the stage. They affirmed and encouraged their casts, and maintained an expectation of professionalism throughout the summer. If you're an actor looking for summer work, I couldn't recommend this company enough. You'll make friendships that last a lifetime, enjoy sunny days and starry nights at a beach that's a five minute walk away, and get paid to do what you love!

We had the celebration of my mom's life on a Saturday and booked the private event for Sunday while everyone was still in town. It was a wonderful way to wrap up the weekend and everyone has the piece to remember my mom. The studio owner was great at communicating with me leading up to the event and the staff made the event so pleasant. I highly recommend this studio.

We saw 3 comics; the whole show was about 1.5 hours. Shows begin at 9 and they start selling tickets at 7:30. You can eat dinner in the function room prior to the show (not recommended; see separate review) and full service (food, drinks) is available during the show as well. The comics were pretty good but seriously, $15 to see a show at a restaurant in Brockton? There were over 100 people there. Maui is making a killing. I think $10 would be more reasonable for the area.

Seasonal Musuem…read more This year, the Old Ordinary was open from June 12th through September 1, (2007), Tuesday through Saturday, 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Admission: adults, $3; children, $1. After Labor Day, the museum will be open by appointment. Really excellent value if you love New England History. Eleanor Roosevelt called Hingham's thoroughfare "the most beautiful Main Street in America." It has a mile or so of wide, tree-lined Main Street with homes that get progressively older as you get closer to the center of town. The Old Ordinary is a wonderful place to visit. It only costs $3.00 and there's are a variety of well-informed tour guides to walk you through the house and explain the rich history of Hingham. You can see house construction, fabric, furniture, toys, tools, clothing, advances in fireplaces, etc. progress as you travel through the rooms. Awesome state of the art kitchen and woodwoodworkshop. There was a quilt and embroidery exhibit when I went through, with examples on loan from the Old Derby school (down the street), one of the first coeducational schools in America, including an example of a rare and beautiful blue and white double anchor patterned quilt. Girls had to do a sampler to graduate, and boys had to make a wooden toy/piece of furniture. You will find a small tavern that qualified the house as an "ordinary" where Daniel Webster is reported to have stopped by for refreshment and conversation on his way through town on occasion. I was struck by how small the space was and that the revolution surely ignited in little places such as that. There are many artifacts including a 1722 Bonner map of Boston, a grandfather clock made by Hinghamite, Joshua Wilder, and Lincoln memorobilia as it is thought (hoped?) Abraham Lincoln may be descended from the Lincolns of Hingham. I believe I read somewhere that Abe never knew his ancestry, though. Nevertheless, there is a statue of him erected just outside the Old Ordinary on the green. Very good day trip.

This wonderful house museum was built in 1688 and expanded twice, all before the Revolutionary War…read more Tours last about an hour, but could last so much longer, there is so much to learn from the knowledgeable guides. They talk about the architecture, the owners, the furnishings, and what it was like in the 17th to 19th centuries in this historic town. Make sure you hear the pirate story! The museum is open seasonally, so make sure to check the website of the Hingham Historical Society or call in advance if you want to be sure. The museum also closes on very hot days. There is a nominal entrance fee if you are not a member.

The Quincy Artsfest has established itself as one of the finest family oriented art and photography shows in Massachusetts, and it is one a the few things left to do in town that is free! They have 4 different art exhibits, childrens' workshops, entertainment, and craft sales. It's usually held two weeks after Labor Day, and it is a fun place to take the kids!
